Why Won’t the Heroine Break Up With Me? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 2
“Our food supplies are running low. We need to figure out a way to go out and find some.”
“But there are monsters everywhere outside. I don’t dare go out.”
“Are you planning to starve to death in the library then?”
Perhaps frustrated by the other person’s cowardice, the girl who spoke next couldn’t help but let a hint of irritation seep into her tone.
“Aren’t there plenty of vending machines in the library? Let’s search again, maybe we can find more food?”
“Jia Shiguang, what are you thinking? Our library only has seven floors, with just one vending machine on each. During the first few days we hid here, we already bought out all the food from those machines. Where would any extra vending machines come from now?”
Hearing this, the man named Jia Shiguang shrank back, avoiding the girl’s gaze and keeping his mouth tightly shut.
Seeing how timid he was, the girl couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “I’ve said what I needed to say. I’m going out to look for food. If you want to starve to death in the library, that’s your business!”
With that, the girl tossed her long ponytail and walked away.
Yun Li, holding onto Tang Congyue’s arm, silently watched the scene unfold.
Feeling her girlfriend tighten her grip, Tang Congyue lowered her head to look at her, her unusually dark eyes filled with concern.
“A-Li, what’s wrong?”
“Congyue, how much food do we have left?”
On the day the monsters descended, they happened to be studying in the library. Yun Li wasn’t in the habit of carrying snacks, but ever since Tang Congyue started dating her, she had developed a habit of keeping food in her bag, just so she could feed Yun Li whenever she complained of hunger.
When the monsters appeared, Tang Congyue’s first instinct wasn’t to hide but to take advantage of the chaos and buy as much filling food as she could from the vending machines, instant noodles, chocolate, and the like. The compressed biscuits they had were even traded by Tang Congyue using instant noodles. So, compared to others, their food reserves were relatively plentiful. But no matter how much food they had, it would eventually run out. The thought that they would eventually have to leave the library and face the vicious monsters outside made Yun Li’s heart tremble with fear.
Sensing Yun Li’s unease, Tang Congyue reached out and patted the back of her hand. “We still have some left, enough to last about four days.”
Four days…
Yun Li couldn’t help but bite her crimson lips. After a moment’s hesitation, she whispered into Tang Congyue’s ear, “Congyue, are you going to go look for food with Zhu Yaqin?”
Zhu Yaqin was the girl who had just walked away, tossing her ponytail.
Instead of answering directly, Tang Congyue asked in return, “Do you want me to go with her to look for food?”
Yun Li looked lost, tightening her grip on Tang Congyue’s arm once more. “I don’t know…”
Her bewildered expression stirred a wave of tenderness in Tang Congyue’s heart. She reached out and gently stroked Yun Li’s soft, warm cheek.
“I want to go with her,” Tang Congyue said, having already made up her mind. She had no intention of waiting to die in the library. But…
She looked at Yun Li with a hint of hesitation.
Noticing the shift in her gaze, Yun Li grew anxious. “Wh-what’s wrong?”
“If I go, you’re coming with me.”
“Huh?”
Tang Congyue would never leave her girlfriend alone in the library.
The survivors in the library were a motley crew, and Yun Li, with her striking beauty, was like a defenseless lamb thrown into a pack of hungry wolves in the library without Tang Congyue by her side.
At this thought, Tang Congyue’s gaze turned slightly cold.
“You have to stay with me,” Tang Congyue said firmly.
A trace of worry clouded Yun Li’s delicate features. “M-me? Wouldn’t I just hold you back if I went?”
To her surprise, Tang Congyue responded by pinching her cheek with a little more force than usual.
“Mmm…” Yun Li let out a dissatisfied whimper.
“What nonsense are you talking? How could you ever hold me back?”
Yun Li pouted slightly, her plump, crimson lips looking irresistibly juicy, making Tang Congyue’s throat feel a bit dry as she watched her.
“Hmm? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“I have poor stamina, and I’ve never learned taekwondo like you. If I’m not a burden, then what am I?”
“More nonsense.” This time, Tang Congyue chose to press her thumb against Yun Li’s lips. With a gentle but firm pressure, she could have slipped into the seam of her lips and into her mouth, but she didn’t push further, merely stroking them lightly.
The gesture carried a hint of teasing, startling Yun Li. She glanced around nervously, and seeing no one paying attention, she quickly pulled Tang Congyue’s hand away, shooting her an annoyed glare. “Anyway, I’m not going. I’ll wait for you here in the library.”
“No!” Tang Congyue rejected the idea almost without a second thought.
“Why?” Yun Li asked, confused.
Tang Congyue led Yun Li back to a corner and patiently explained, “The closest cafeteria to the library is the Fifth Cafeteria. It’s about a kilometer from here, and that’s too far. There’s no telling what might happen along the way, so you have to come with me.”
Yun Li thought it over and found Tang Congyue’s reasoning sound. She didn’t argue further and obediently nodded. “Alright, I’ll go with you.”
So obedient.
Seeing this, Tang Congyue couldn’t resist leaning in to press a kiss onto Yun Li’s full, crimson lips, lingering for a moment with a gentle rub.
“Good girl.”
Yun Li was startled and was about to push her away when Tang Congyue had already pulled back. Her eyes darkened, as if unsatisfied with the brief, restrained kiss.
“What are you doing? Someone might see!”
“They won’t. I blocked the view.”
She had no intention of letting anyone else catch a glimpse of her girlfriend’s alluring expression after being kissed.
“Better not,” Yun Li retorted, blushing with a mix of embarrassment and irritation.
In response, Tang Congyue merely curved her lips into a slight smile, then took Yun Li’s wrist and led her over to Zhu Yaqin.
By now, Zhu Yaqin had gathered a few others who were unwilling to wait for death in the library. They had decided to leave the next day and head to the Fifth Cafeteria in search of food.
Just as Zhu Yaqin finished discussing the next day’s plans with her makeshift teammates, she caught sight of Tang Congyue leading Yun Li over in her peripheral vision. Her eyes first swept over Yun Li’s beautiful face before settling on Tang Congyue.
“Tang, is there something you need?”
After a week in the library, Zhu Yaqin had memorized everyone on their floor.
“You’re leaving the library?”
“Yes, would you like to join us?”
As soon as Zhu Yaqin finished speaking, Huang Xinyuan, standing behind her, felt a surge of dissatisfaction. Though she was also a member of Zhu Yaqin’s team, she couldn’t stand Yun Li and didn’t want her to join. However, the decision-making power lay with Zhu Yaqin, and no matter how displeased she was, she couldn’t voice her objections.
“So, when do you plan to set off?” Tang Congyue asked.
Zhu Yaqin replied, “Tomorrow morning at nine.”
“Understood.”
“Then, shall we say it’s a deal?” Zhu Yaqin smiled slightly and extended her hand toward Tang Congyue.
To be honest, she admired Tang Congyue and was quite pleased to have her as a teammate.
Tang Congyue remained silent for a moment before, at Yun Li’s prompting, she reached out and shook Zhu Yaqin’s hand.
“Pleasure working with you.”
