Why Won’t the Heroine Break Up With Me? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 17
Yun Li slept fitfully, waking up with a groggy head and an empty stomach.
“Awake?”
Before her eyes could adjust to the light, Tang Congyue’s voice sounded beside her ear, followed by the gentle touch of her hand tidying the stray hairs at Yun Li’s temple.
Yun Li hummed softly in response and then asked, “What time is it?”
“Almost half past twelve.”
What?!
Yun Li was startled for a moment, her peach-blossom eyes widening in surprise.
With that expression, she looked rather adorably clueless.
Tang Congyue couldn’t help but laugh, reaching out to pinch her cheek. “Why are your eyes so wide?”
Yun Li: “…”
She composed herself, her eyes returning to their usual state, and then lifted her hand to push away Tang Congyue’s mischievous fingers from her face. “I was just surprised that I slept for so long.”
“You slept late, so of course you woke up late.”
That made sense.
Yun Li nodded, slowly sitting up. She draped the windbreaker that had been covering her legs over her shoulders, then covered her mouth as she yawned. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Tang Congyue looking bright and energetic, and she couldn’t help but ask, “Did you sleep?”
“Yes.”
“What time did you wake up?”
“An hour earlier than you.”
Yun Li hummed thoughtfully and asked again, “What time did you go to bed last night?”
“I didn’t pay attention.”
“Alright.”
Yun Li stood up and stretched her slightly sore and weak limbs. Seeing Tang Congyue also getting up to stretch, she couldn’t resist walking over and giving her arm a squeeze.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I just wanted to touch it.”
With that, Yun Li recalled the sensation, slightly firm, with a muscular feel. Truly befitting of the female lead. She then felt her own arm, soft and plump, without a trace of muscle, looking utterly weak.
Yun Li couldn’t help but pout.
Seeing her like this, Tang Congyue’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Want to exercise with me from now on?”
Yun Li waved her hand dismissively.
Forget it, forget it. Exercise was simply not for her.
“But that won’t do. You might not even be able to outrun someone if you had to escape.”
Yun Li: “…”
“Well said, but please don’t say it again.”
Tang Congyue couldn’t hold back and ruffled her hair.
“Silly.”
She murmured it softly, and Yun Li didn’t catch it, giving her a suspicious look.
“What did you just say?”
“Nothing.”
“Really?”
Her intuition told her that Tang Congyue definitely hadn’t said anything nice.
“Really.”
Yun Li narrowed her eyes, trying to read something from her expression. Unfortunately, Tang Congyue was always expressionless. Though she was gentler when facing Yun Li, it was still impossible to decipher anything. Yun Li gave up.
“Gurgle…”
A growl came from her stomach, and Yun Li awkwardly rubbed her nose.
“Hungry?”
“…Yeah.”
Tang Congyue pulled a pack of compressed biscuits from her backpack. “Eat half a biscuit to fill your stomach for now. Later, I’ll go downstairs and cook some monster meat for you.”
She paused for a moment before adding, “The monster I killed early this morning looked perfectly normal, with no black tumors on its body. You can eat it without worry.”
Hearing this, Yun Li breathed a sigh of relief and felt a flicker of anticipation. Zhu Yaqin had mentioned before that monster meat was truly delicious. After a moment’s thought, she handed the compressed biscuit back and said, “I’ll hold out a little longer. I’ll just wait for the meat.”
Tang Congyue thought it was fine, so she packed the compressed biscuits into her backpack. “Let’s go freshen up first.”
“Alright.”
After washing up in the second-floor bathroom, the two headed straight down to the first floor.
Zhao Jinhe and Luo Zhibo were not on the first floor. Only a few scattered individuals were seated there, all of them Zhao Jinhe’s supporters. When they saw Tang Congyue, they leaned in close, whispering among themselves.
Aside from these people, Tang Congyue and the others also spotted Zhu Yaqin and her group.
Upon seeing them, Zhu Yaqin smiled and walked over.
“You came down?” Zhu Yaqin paused briefly before continuing, “Tang Congyue, you were right. We actually encountered a monster. Luckily, thanks to your warning, we managed to deal with it. Oh, and I even managed to slash the monster with a knife.”
Yun Li vaguely recalled hearing the monster’s sounds when she was sleeping in the early morning, but she had been too exhausted at the time. Besides, with Tang Congyue by her side, she had simply gone back to sleep.
“Was anyone hurt?” Yun Li asked.
“No, no.” Zhu Yaqin waved her hand dismissively. “Did you come down to cook the monster meat? I’ll join you!”
Now she was a “rich lady” with eleven pounds of monster meat! She could eat to her heart’s content!
“Sure.”
Yun Li agreed, and the three of them entered the kitchen.
A man and a woman were sitting in the kitchen, both around forty years old. When they saw Tang Congyue enter, they immediately recognized her as the girl who had single-handedly killed the monster last night. Remembering the headless monster, they unconsciously shivered, a flicker of fear passing through their hearts.
“Miss, are you here for the monster meat?”
“Yes.”
One of the middle-aged women stood up, opened the refrigerator, and said to Tang Congyue, “We’ve already processed the monster you killed. Would you like to take a look?”
Tang Congyue glanced over and saw that the monster’s fur had been completely removed, and the meat had been chopped into pieces. She nodded in satisfaction to indicate her approval, then selected a piece of hind leg meat, picked it up, and walked out.
“Miss, do you need our help?”
Tang Congyue initially wanted to refuse, but out of the corner of her eye, she caught the ingratiating smile on the middle-aged woman’s face. Remembering her own mediocre knife skills, she hesitated for a few seconds before nodding.
“Auntie, could you help me slice this meat?”
“Of course, of course! Leave it to me. By the way, my name is Hu Junfen. You can call me Auntie Hu.”
With that, Hu Junfen began chopping the monster’s hind leg meat with loud thuds.
Seeing this, Yun Li couldn’t help but take a few steps back.
“What’s wrong?”
“It feels a little brutal,” Yun Li muttered under her breath.
Hu Junfen was too focused on cutting the meat to hear Yun Li, but Tang Congyue and Zhu Yaqin did. Neither of them said anything, but Tang Congyue reached out and ruffled Yun Li’s hair.
Yun Li let her do it.
True to her skills as a cook, Hu Junfen finished slicing the hind leg meat in just a few minutes, with each piece cut to a perfect thickness.
Seeing this, Tang Congyue thought for a moment and said, “Auntie Hu, do you know how to make braised pork?”
Her knife skills were lacking, and her cooking abilities were only average. Since Hu Junfen was a cook, she figured she might as well ask for her help.
“Yes, yes, I do.”
“Please make us a portion of braised pork.” After saying this, Tang Congyue divided the sliced hind leg meat into three portions and pushed one-third of it toward Hu Junfen. “Auntie Hu, this is your payment.”
Then, she offered one-third of the monster meat to Zhu Yaqin, but Zhu Yaqin adamantly refused to accept it. Left with no other choice, Tang Congyue had to ask Hu Junfen to cook the remaining two-thirds of the monster meat into braised pork.
With the compensation from Tang Congyue, Hu Junfen put even more effort into her cooking. Meanwhile, Tang Congyue took out a packet of instant braised beef noodles from her backpack and started preparing them.
Zhu Yaqin hadn’t expected Tang Congyue and the others to have instant noodles. She couldn’t help but swallow her saliva, then obediently took her portion of monster meat from the refrigerator and began cooking it with great effort.
By the time Hu Junfen’s braised pork was ready, the kitchen was filled with the overwhelming aroma of the dish. The scent even drifted outside, making anyone who caught a whiff of it involuntarily swallow their saliva.
“It smells so good…”
While Yun Li was marveling, Tang Congyue divided the prepared instant noodles into two bowls, one placed in front of Yun Li and the other in front of herself. She then served the braised pork Hu Junfen had made.
“Let’s eat.”
Yun Li nodded eagerly like a little chick pecking at rice. “You eat too.”
After saying this, Yun Li took a bite of the braised beef noodles. Just as she was about to pick up a piece of braised pork to try, she noticed Tang Congyue had already taken a bite. Unconsciously, she turned her gaze toward Tang Congyue.
Noticing Yun Li’s look, Tang Congyue nodded slightly, her voice slightly muffled. “It’s safe to eat.”
Hearing this, Yun Li nodded and mentally prepared herself before picking up a piece of the monster meat and stuffing it into her mouth.
Mmm!
So delicious!
The moment it entered her mouth, Yun Li’s peach-blossom eyes widened in surprise.
The meat was tender yet still had a pleasant chewiness, with a subtle sweetness and savory flavor. It was truly delicious!
Yun Li dared to say it was the best braised pork she had ever tasted!
Seeing Yun Li’s eyes light up as she ate, Tang Congyue smiled faintly and began eating at a leisurely pace.
On the other side, Zhu Yaqin had also finished cooking her meat. Burying her head in her meal, she ate diligently, accompanied by the irresistible aroma.
