Why Won’t the Heroine Break Up With Me? [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 11
As soon as Tang Congyue descended the stairs, her gaze unerringly landed on Zhao Jinhe. He appeared to be speaking with someone, his expression serious.
She paid it no mind and walked straight toward him. But before she could reach him, Zhu Yaqin, who was nearby, spotted Tang Congyue first.
Upon seeing her, Zhu Yaqin’s eyes suddenly lit up as if she had thought of something, and she hurried over to greet her.
“Tang Congyue!”
Hearing her name, Tang Congyue glanced over. Recognizing Zhu Yaqin, she gave a polite nod.
Zhu Yaqin wore a smile. “What brings you down here? Are you joining the patrol team?”
“No.” With that, Tang Congyue walked straight toward Zhao Jinhe without so much as a sideways glance.
By now, Zhao Jinhe had also noticed Tang Congyue and deliberately flashed her a provocative smirk.
Tang Congyue couldn’t be bothered to engage with such a childish man. She pulled a chocolate bar from her pocket and tossed it casually, landing it squarely in Zhao Jinhe’s lap.
Zhao Jinhe instinctively looked down. Recognizing the chocolate as the very one he had given to Yun Li, his face immediately darkened.
“What’s the meaning of this?”
“Returning it to you.”
“I gave this to Yun Li! What right do you have to make decisions for her?!” Zhao Jinhe stood up, his expression stormy.
Unfazed, Tang Congyue met his gaze with a calm demeanor. “My apologies, but A-Li’s wishes are my wishes.”
“Are you saying Yun Li asked you to return this to me?”
Tang Congyue shot him a look that clearly said, “What else?”
This visibly angered Zhao Jinhe. “I don’t believe it! You must have threatened Yun Li!”
In response, Tang Congyue merely let out a derisive snort.
“I’m going to find Yun Li and get to the bottom of this!”
“Save yourself the trouble. You’ll only end up embarrassed.”
Zhao Jinhe’s advancing footsteps halted. Furious and heedless of the onlookers around them, he glared intently at Tang Congyue. “So, what if you’re Yun Li’s girlfriend? This is the apocalypse! A defenseless woman like you, do you really think you can protect Yun Li? I suggest you think carefully about what choice is truly best for her!”
“Defenseless?” Tang Congyue repeated the words, then chuckled softly. Her usually icy expression suddenly came to life, momentarily stunning Zhao Jinhe, who was staring fixedly at her. “Then let’s spar and see if I’m truly defenseless.”
Snapping back to reality, Zhao Jinhe frowned deeply. “I don’t hit women!”
“How boring.” Unable to hold back, Tang Congyue rolled her eyes at him. Seeing that Zhao Jinhe truly had no intention of fighting her, she saw no reason to linger and turned to leave without another word.
“You…”
Zhao Jinhe clenched his fists, but his principles prevented him from laying a hand on Tang Congyue. All he could do was fume helplessly where he stood.
Zhu Yaqin hadn’t expected to witness such a dramatic scene. She glanced at Tang Congyue’s retreating figure, then at Zhao Jinhe’s livid expression, and found herself feeling awkward.
Tang Congyue and Zhao Jinhe were now at odds. Would Tang Congyue still join the patrol team?
The thought made Zhu Yaqin’s head spin.
…
When Tang Congyue returned, Yun Li was sitting obediently in her seat, hugging her backpack. It wasn’t until Tang drew closer that she noticed Yun Li’s mind was wandering, her peach-blossom eyes staring vacantly at the table, lost in thought.
This piqued Tang Congyue’s curiosity. She placed a hand on Yun Li’s head and asked, “What are you thinking about?”
The sudden voice startled Yun Li out of her reverie. Realizing it was Tang Congyue, she couldn’t help but pout and shoot her a glare.
Tang chuckled softly and ruffled her hair again. “Why so jumpy? Did I really scare you that much?”
Yun Li retorted indignantly, “If it were you, you’d be scared too!”
Tang Congyue neither agreed nor disagreed, choosing not to dwell on the matter. Instead, she repeated, “What were you thinking about?”
Of course, I was thinking about how to complete the mission!
But could she tell Tang Congyue that? Absolutely not.
So, Yun Li merely glanced at her and remained silent.
“Hmm?”
“What do you mean, ‘hmm’?”
“Don’t want to tell me?”
“Not exactly.” Yun Li had no intention of discussing it and changed the subject. “Did you return the chocolate?”
“Yes.”
Yun Li didn’t ask how she had returned it or how Zhao Jinhe had reacted. One glance at Tang Congyue was enough to sense her cheerful mood.
She’s happy now, but I’m the one who’s upset.
Mission, mission, how am I supposed to complete you?
And when will Tang Congyue’s official love interest show up?
Yun Li was so troubled that her delicate brows furrowed slightly. The next moment, however, a warm fingertip pressed against her forehead, Tang Congyue smoothing out the wrinkles there.
“Why the frown?” Tang Congyue’s calm voice cut in before Yun Li could speak. “What? Regretting it now?”
“Regretting what?” Yun Li was baffled.
“Regretting asking me to return the chocolate.”
Yun Li: “…”
Sis, can we please drop this and never bring it up again?
Yun Li finally understood: Tang Congyue claimed not to care, but she was actually more bothered than anyone. Otherwise, why would she keep bringing it up? Helpless, Yun Li suppressed her irritation and said, “Can we please stop talking about this? Besides, that’s not what I was thinking about.”
“Oh?”
Of course, Yun Li couldn’t mention the mission or the “official love interest.” In a flash, she thought of another excuse. “I was wondering… what will we do when we run out of food? The cafeteria only provides one meal a day, just enough to keep us alive. If danger really comes, we…”
She trailed off, but Tang Congyue understood. Tang Congyue patted her head again and sat down beside her.
“Right now, we still have three packs of instant noodles and two bags of compressed biscuits. If we ration carefully, we can last a few more days. But you’re right, we can’t just sit around waiting.”
Yun Li watched Tang Congyue, waiting to hear what she would say next.
“Joining the patrol team will get us monster meat. I’ll go join the patrol team.”
Yun Li was somewhat surprised, but then she recalled the monstrous creature she had once faced, its grotesque appearance and body covered with black tumors, and her expression turned complicated.
With just one glance, Tang Congyue knew what she was thinking. She reached out, took Yun Li’s hand, and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Not all monsters look that disgusting. Don’t worry too much.”
Yun Li knew Tang Congyue was right. She also knew that, sooner or later, eating monster meat would become unavoidable. Still, her mood remained gloomy, and…
“Will it be dangerous?” Yun Li couldn’t help but grip Tang Congyue’s hand tightly.
“I’ve seen Zhao Jinhe kill a monster before. If it’s just one, and you have a weapon, it should be possible to take it down.”
“Really? You’re not lying to me, are you?”
“Of course it’s true. Don’t worry, I won’t put myself in danger.”
Yun Li believed her. Besides, this was the female protagonist, someone blessed with luck, so she definitely wouldn’t encounter any life-threatening danger.
With that thought, most of Yun Li’s worries faded away, and her mood lifted considerably.
