Who Wants to Be the Affectionate Cannon Fodder?! [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 12
Lin He rarely dreamed in the past, but recently, they had become frequent.
Yu Lin wasn’t particularly afraid of the cold. Every night, he liked to run barefoot across the wooden floors or sit at the desk with his calves exposed, swinging them slowly. His slender fingers would casually twirl a pen, and as his sleeves slipped down, they revealed the clean, defined lines of his cool white arms.
When the living room lights fell upon him, everything looked as dazzling as a summer day.
That dazzling summer followed Lin He right into his dreams. A scorching sun replaced the fluorescent lights, and the youth hid by a tree where cicadas chirped noisily. The dappled shadows couldn’t hide his form, and he sat there, openly exposed to the sun as if he didn’t fear the heat, staring intently at the ants passing beneath the tree.
A humid, hot wind blew against Lin He’s restless heart. He watched the youth’s arm, white as a lotus root, suspended in the air. A fingertip dropped lightly, tapping the cement ground and blocking the ants’ path. Sweat slid down the boy’s forehead, trembling precariously at the tip of his small, upturned nose.
The water droplets shimmered like crushed gold under the sun’s reflection. An impulse stirred in Lin He’s heart, a desperate urge to lean down and kiss him, to steal that tiny bit of fragmented light.
Just as he took a step forward, the youth abruptly looked up. His eyes were calm and devoid of emotion, like stagnant water, but his voice was hauntingly familiar.
He called out: “Brother?”
The next second, the youth raised his hand and punched him.
Reality and dream overlapped. Lin He’s eyelids flew open, and he met Yu Lin’s dazed, innocent eyes.
Yu Lin was currently sprawled across him in a “Mount Tai pressing down” posture. There was no need to guess whose handiwork that dream-shattering punch had been.
Enduring his inner turmoil, Lin He looked away to stare at a beam of morning light on the ceiling. He said helplessly, “Do you not realize how much you weigh?”
The moment he spoke, he realized his voice was incredibly raspy.
But Yu Lin didn’t notice anything wrong. He braced himself against Lin He’s abdomen to sit up, crossing his legs as he stared at Lin He’s face and blinked. “What did you dream about?”
Beneath the covers, Lin He’s fingers curled tightly, his knuckles turning white. His breathing grew heavy instinctively; the restlessness from the dream seemed to be making a comeback.
Yu Lin looked at his reaction with confusion and asked, “Was it an Omega?”
Lin He’s entire body stiffened, and he sat up abruptly. Caught off balance, Yu Lin was tossed aside. The thick quilt blocked his vision, and after he scrambled to push it away, he found himself—and the quilt—being ushered right out of the room.
Yu Lin: “???”
Yu Lin: “Brother, didn’t you say we were going skiing today?”
Today was the first day of Yu Lin’s winter break, a promise Lin He had made yesterday.
Receiving no response, Yu Lin dropped the quilt on the floor and made a move to turn the doorknob.
Click. Lin He had actually locked the door!
“Brother? Lin He!” Yu Lin banged on the door roughly, his eyes darting to the lock as he calculated how much force it would take to break it down.
From inside the room, Lin He’s voice drifted out: “I heard you. Wait downstairs.”
Yu Lin didn’t move, still sizing up the lock.
“Don’t even think about breaking the door.”
He can even guess that?!
Lin He’s grip on the doorframe tightened involuntarily. Only when he heard the footsteps outside recede did he relax and sit back down on the edge of the bed.
He held his head and took several deep breaths. The biting winter wind leaked through the window cracks, grazing his skin and greatly soothing the burning heat in his chest.
Lin He opened the nightstand drawer, took out a suppressor, and plunged it into his arm without hesitation.
His muscles trembled slightly, yet the hand holding the syringe remained steady. Sweat trickled down his brow, past his finely carved features, and hung trembling on his long eyelashes.
“…” He opened his mouth, letting out a muffled, low sound, though it was unclear whose name he was calling. “Let this end quickly…”
A box of ten suppressors was already half empty.
Such was the constitution of an Alpha, especially at a vigorous age; the heat waves always came fast and strong, and they were incredibly annoying.
Once his heartbeat and breathing steadied, Lin He took a shower in the bathroom, changed into a windbreaker, and went downstairs.
On the sofa, Yu Lin was already growing impatient. Seeing him come down the stairs, he shot him a resentful look.
Those bright black eyes seemed to merge with the ones in the dream, yet they were worlds apart.
Lin He ignored the silent accusation and said, “Let’s go,” turning to grab the car keys.
Unexpectedly, a wave of warmth approached. Yu Lin had moved behind him at some point. A fingertip lightly hooked against the back of his neck, almost grazing the sensitive gland.
He was merely catching a drop of water from the end of Lin He’s hair.
“I waited downstairs for so long, and you were actually taking a shower?” Yu Lin rubbed the water droplet between his fingers and asked in bewilderment, “But it’s daytime, why are you showering, Brother?”
“…”
Lin He roughly grabbed a hat from the rack and pulled it down over Yu Lin’s head. The oversized beanie covered Yu Lin’s eyes.
“Brother? Brother!” Yu Lin flailed, trying to adjust it, but Lin He was quick to catch and restrain his wrists.
【What is wrong with him today?】 Yu Lin asked curiously.
007 said flatly: 【Likely the fact that you solemnly exposed his secret made him fly into a rage out of shame.】
Yu Lin: 【…What did I do?】
Lin He turned him around and pushed him straight toward the door.
Through gritted teeth, he said, “Stop shouting. What do you want for breakfast?”
“Shengjian buns!” Yu Lin’s attention was instantly diverted.
Golden sunlight pierced through the clouds, falling upon the snow-capped mountain peaks. Skis flew down the smooth paths, kicking up snow like powdered sugar on a cake. The fine mist of snow shimmered like a veil of golden silk under the sun’s refraction.
Yu Lin was dressed entirely in white. After getting out of the car, he was like a Samoyed off its leash, darting straight for the snow. His bare fingers scooped up a handful of snow. Just as he brought his nose close to it, he heard Lin He shout, “Don’t eat it.”
He hadn’t actually planned on eating it.
Yu Lin sullenly scattered the snow back on the ground before Lin He hauled him into the ski hut to get fitted for gear.
The staff member was a girl who didn’t look very old. She was petite, not even reaching Yu Lin’s ears. Under her direction, Yu Lin put on the protective gear step by step, looking very much like a doll being dressed.
“Are you two a couple?” the girl asked, seemingly at random.
Being an adopted brother, Lin He didn’t look anything like Lin Zhou. The former was like a bright, cold moon to be admired from afar, while the latter was the innocent, harmless boy next door.
Yu Lin: “We’re brothers.”
The girl let out a regretful “Ah,” but quickly recovered and asked, “Is it your first time?”
Yu Lin nodded noncommittally.
“Would you like other styles of protective gear? We have pink and green turtle cushions here; they’re very cute.”
Just as Yu Lin was about to shake his head, Lin He said, “Give him a set.”
Yu Lin: “?”
Five minutes later, the fully geared Yu Lin wiggled the turtle tail behind his back. He accidentally caught Lin He’s half-smiling gaze and felt that his brother was deliberately setting a trap to laugh at him.
Yu Lin raised his hand to unfasten it. Having such a thing hanging behind him was truly an eyesore and would affect his performance.
The moment he undid the buckle at his waist, Lin He grabbed both sides and buckled it back for him. “Keep it on. With your reckless personality, don’t go breaking yourself.”
He even tightened the buckle a bit.
“I won’t fall,” Yu Lin said seriously. After speaking, to prove to Lin He that he wasn’t lying, he tried to take a step forward.
But Yu Lin had only just encountered this sport and hadn’t mastered the basic movements. If Lin He hadn’t reached out to support him in time, he would have fallen flat on his back.
“Pfft—” A passing middle schooler let out a disdainful laugh. He immediately leaped past Yu Lin down the slope, performing an extremely smooth figure-eight carve.
Yu Lin observed the movement of the boy’s muscles, the shifts in his center of gravity, and the angle of his turns. He asked nonchalantly, “…Is he provoking me?”
When the boy reached the bottom of the slope, he even turned back to look at them and patted his own backside.
“It seems so.”
Lin He sensed something was wrong. His reaching hand caught nothing but air. Yu Lin didn’t even give him time to react before jumping straight down the slope.
He perfectly replicated that middle schooler’s skiing posture.
He could barely even walk steady just a moment ago; one really had to wonder about his startling athletic talent.
Lin He sighed and helplessly followed, lest Yu Lin cause more trouble down there alone.
Sure enough, halfway down, he saw Yu Lin in the exact same posture, brushing snow off the turtle cushion behind him.
The middle schooler left in a huff.
Lin He chuckled, maneuvering his skis to slide up beside Yu Lin. Seeing him arrive, the latter moved his skis closer, clearly fishing for praise.
But after only a few moves, he really did fall flat on his back this time.
Lin He: “…”
By the time he helped Yu Lin out of the snow, the boy’s hair was a mess. There were soft snowflakes in his hair, on his eyelashes, and on the tip of his nose, making him look like a freshly made mochi.
Lin He couldn’t help but smile as he wiped the snow from the tip of Yu Lin’s nose. When he touched the eyelashes, he felt Yu Lin tremble sensitively. The crow-feather-like lashes flickered against his palm, like a feather scratching at his heart.
Lin He cleared his throat. “Any more rebuttals?”
Yu Lin sat with his legs sprawled and shook his head obediently.
“I’ll go buy a bottle of water and come back to teach you.” Lin He reached out and ruffled Yu Lin’s hair. “Don’t run off.”
Yu Lin gave two quick “Oks” and pushed the snow between his legs into a ball.
“What are you thinking about?”
“I’m thinking I can bring Xie Zhizhang here next time.” That way, he could teach the boy another skill to show off in front of Xu Ze’an and take the opportunity to farm some more Affection Value from bystanders. It was truly a deal that killed two birds with one stone.
Lin He’s gaze darkened. His hand slid from Yu Lin’s ear down to pinch his soft earlobe.
“Is being with me, just the two of us, not good enough?”
