When We Meet Again, She's Pregnant - Chapter 2
“Yan Yan.”
“Here.”
“When are you coming? Hurry up.”
“On my way.”
“Why are you still on the way? The fan meet is almost over. If you’re any slower, there’ll be no one left.”
“Wait for me, I’m coming now.”
“Wait for you? Who do you think they are? Why would they wait for you?”
“…”
The taxi driver, hearing the anxious voices behind him, stepped on the gas. Unfortunately, he was soon stopped by a red light. He lit a cigarette, exhaled a puff of smoke, and stared blankly ahead.
The anxious girl in the backseat urged, “Uncle Driver, can you go any faster? I’m in a hurry.”
Another girl chimed in, “Yeah, yeah, we’re in a hurry.”
“Little girls, there’s a traffic jam ahead. There’s nothing I can do. You’re heading to the square, right? Are you going to see Liu Ying?” The driver glanced back at the girls, his eyes flashing with admiration.
This girl is stunning—a true beauty!
“Yes, yes!” the other girl said anxiously.
“It’s no use. Liu Ying always wears a tiger-shaped mask wherever she goes. Even if you get there, you won’t see her face. Besides, with this traffic, your chances of meeting her are slim.”
Yang Xiyan bit her lip, her delicate fists clenching her skirt. “Please try to go as fast as you can.” After saying this, she lowered her head in disappointment.
Deep down, she knew it was hopeless.
Liu Ying her idol, the one who had once saved her life. She had always tried to follow in her footsteps but could never catch up. Seven years had passed since their brief encounter. Even if they met now, they probably wouldn’t recognize each other.
She just wanted to see her one more time, to talk to her.
The car crawled forward, stopping and starting, until they finally reached the square. But by then, the sky had darkened, and only a handful of people remained at the signing event along with her, unwilling to give up.
Her maid, Yi Yi, also felt regretful but quickly cheered up to comfort her mistress. “It’s okay, Miss. You’ll definitely see her next time.”
Yang Xiyan lowered her eyes, crestfallen.
Liu Ying always wore a mask in public. This time, by chance, she wasn’t wearing one. Yang Xiyan had been so looking forward to it, only to be thwarted by traffic.
If only she could fly. But she didn’t even know how to use flight magic.
“Miss, it’s getting late. You have the ball tonight,” Yi Yi whispered beside her. “If you don’t go, the clan leader might get angry.”
Yang Xiyan snapped out of her thoughts, grabbed her purse, and lifted her skirt to run back. Seeing that the same taxi was still there, she said, “Please take us to the Xiye Hotel.”
“I knew you’d come back,” the driver said, exhaling another puff of smoke as he stole another glance at her before turning toward the Xiye Hotel.
Yang Xiyan slumped into the backseat, watching the night scenery flash by. Her mother had secured her an invitation to this ball. Frankly, to attract eligible young masters and ladies.
But she wasn’t in the mood at all.
Soon, they arrived at the hotel. Yang Xiyan paid and left.
The driver pocketed the fare, watching the girl in the black evening gown walk away under an umbrella, sighing inwardly. “What a beautiful girl. I wonder which noble family she belongs to.”
The rain drizzled down, and the air grew colder than during the day. Yet the Xiye Hotel, the most famous in M City on the Beast Island, remained as dazzling as ever, its warmth untouched by the chill outside.
This was the famous ball hosted by the city lord’s eldest daughter, Zhou Ziling, inviting young ladies and gentlemen from prominent families.
All the attendees were influential figures.
The main purpose was to network with important people, paving the way for future endeavors though some came purely for romance.
Yang Xiyan just wished the ball would end soon. She wasn’t very good at these things.
……
While Yang Xiyan attended the banquet, Liu Ying strolled alone through the streets. Darkness had already fallen, with dark clouds shrouding the sky. A cold, damp scent hung in the air, as if rain was imminent.
Liu Ying walked down the neon-lit street, her dark, tousled bangs fluttering slightly in the breeze, revealing her delicate features.
“Hey!”
“Yingying, is your connection bad? Why’s it so dark?”
“I’m outside. Why are you video-calling me?” Liu Ying stopped under a streetlamp, frowning at the girl on the screen who looked strikingly similar to her, hugging a plush toy on her bed.
“Giggle~ Aren’t you supposed to be preparing for your graduation exam? Why are you so relaxed? Your big sis here is swamped. Hurry up and graduate so you can help me! Mommy’s being an absolute nightmare!”
“I’ve decided not to take the graduation exam.”
“Wha—?! Did you tell Mom yet?”
“Not yet.”
“You—how could you not say anything about something this important?”
“I was planning to go back today, but something unexpected happened.” Liu Ying’s mood was complicated.
Too much had happened. Her future self had actually used the forbidden magic “Temporal Summoning” to pull her into the future, helping her complete the forbidden technique “Twelve Celestial Spheres.” There, she had learned about events yet to come.
—Yang Xiyan.
According to Future Ying, this girl was stunningly beautiful. So much so that even she had fallen for her. She was the reason Liu Ying would be sealed away, the result of love.
“What a shame. If you don’t graduate, no one’s gonna help me out.” The girl on the screen pouted, but her expression quickly turned serious. “Actually, I don’t think you should graduate either. Your potential is limitless. You should keep studying, develop your own independence. Don’t let anyone influence you.”
“Mm!” Liu Ying nodded obediently. Her usually unreliable sister was being uncharacteristically earnest, so she played along.
“Oh, right, Yingying! Since you’re not going on your training mission anymore.” The girl’s eyes sparkled. “How about helping me out instead? Our family has some business to discuss with the city lord of Monster Island. Wanna go negotiate for me?”
“No.” Liu Ying refused flatly.
“Come onnn~ That old hag drives me crazy! Do your big sis a solid, okay? She’s so stuffy and preachy. If I go, she’ll lecture me nonstop. But you? No problem!”
“No.” Liu Ying turned her head away, not daring to look at the screen. If she saw her sister’s adorable pleading face, she’d cave instantly.
In their family, her sister had inherited their mother’s talent. An explosive ability to act cute. The little princess of the household, no one could resist her.
“Don’t be so heartless! I’ve been swamped with work lately. Haven’t slept in two whole days! Look at these dark circles.”
“You, how come you still act like a student even after graduation? You’re an adult now, you need to learn to take care of yourself.” Liu Ying directly ended the call, letting out a long sigh. But after wrestling with her thoughts for a moment, she still headed towards the city lord’s mansion.
—Stupid sister!
Before reaching the city lord’s mansion, her sister sent her specific instructions, telling her to first meet up with the vice president and then attend the dance party hosted by the city lord’s first daughter as a group. It made her head ache just thinking about it.
Another dance party, what a hassle. She really hated these kinds of things.
The meeting point with the vice president of the Liu branch company was near the Xiye Hotel. She was a cute-looking girl who said very politely when she saw Liu Ying approaching, “Miss Ying, the president asked me to meet up with you.”
Liu Ying estimated her height about half a head shorter than herself, quite adorable.
“What’s your name?”
“My name is Xia Lingxi.”
“Then I’ll be Xia Qiu. At the dance, we’ll be sisters. Don’t reveal my identity, okay?” Liu Ying playfully winked at her, making Xia Lingxi’s gaze dart around nervously.
So this was Liu Ying, the second daughter of the Liu family? She’d heard of her but never expected her to be like this. She seemed somewhat similar to her sister very beautiful, the kind that easily caught girls’ attention.
“Miss Ying, please change into your gown and see if it fits,” secretary Xiao Ai came over from the side, holding their prepared gowns.
Liu Ying took the gown handed to her and headed to the changing room.
Watching Liu Ying walk away, Xia Lingxi shook her head and entered another changing room.
Liu Ying emerged wearing a purple evening gown that bared one shoulder both elegant and sexy. If she didn’t reveal her identity, she probably wouldn’t get swarmed like she did this afternoon.
Following Xia Lingxi into the venue, Liu Ying kept a low profile by staying in a corner as if nothing was happening, mentally complaining about her sister always dumping troublesome tasks on her while also observing the girls at the banquet.
After all, she still had to dance a few dances.
Zhou Ziling was guiding everyone and hosting the dance.
Suddenly, the entire ballroom fell silent including Liu Ying and Zhou Ziling as everyone’s attention was drawn to a stunning figure emerging from the direction of the restrooms. The world seemed to stand still.
The girl wore a black off-the-shoulder evening gown, her jet-black hair elegantly pinned up. A crystal necklace adorned her swan-like white neck, and beneath her bangs was a face of breathtaking beauty, though still bearing traces of youthful innocence perhaps sixteen or seventeen years old.
She stumbled slightly, nearly falling, but managed to steady herself, drawing sighs of admiration from the crowd.
The girl seemed somewhat flustered, nodding to the host before retreating to a corner where she sat gracefully with her legs together, sipping juice like a little princess.
“Who is she?”
“No idea.”
“So beautiful.”
“She looks quite young wonder if she can drink alcohol.”
“…”
Many whispered among themselves.
“Absolutely gorgeous!” Liu Ying couldn’t help but exclaim, her eyes openly showing admiration. She looked no less than an elven princess. Whose child could she be? And that pure, princess-like aura of hers. It really made one’s heart flutter with excitement.
