When We Meet Again, She's Pregnant - Chapter 13
So, this guy is one of the masterminds!
Liu Ying calmly watched him and said, “I see.” Her gaze followed the departing bodyguard, her eyes narrowing slightly. Was this guy really Yang Xiyan’s bodyguard?
She withdrew her gaze and gave the two of them an apologetic smile.
Earlier, when introducing herself to Yang Xiyan and the others on the tour bus, she hadn’t mentioned being from Tian Xingzi. Now, when introducing herself to Zi Ye and the others, she claimed to be from Tian Xingzi. No wonder things turned out this way.
The two didn’t seem to mind and were still happy to chat with her. Anjiya smiled sweetly as usual. “It’s fine. The Moon Goddess once said that when in a difficult situation, finding a reasonable way to survive is nothing to be ashamed of.”
Zi Ye took the tiger cub from Anjiya and hugged it, looking somewhat puzzled. “So, you’re really not a student of Tian Xingzi?”
When she first met Liu Ying and heard her self-introduction, Zi Ye hadn’t doubted her. After all, Liu Ying exuded an independent and powerful aura, wrapped in an air of mysterious confidence.
“Every student at Tian Xingzi is a prodigy. Do I look like one to you?” Liu Ying took a bite of pastry, her expression sweet and satisfied.
These girls were truly from a noble school living so luxuriously.
First, they cleared away all the weeds, then set up tents for sleeping. Some male bodyguards handled the wild game, preparing meals while the girls spread blankets on the grass, arranging fruits and pastries on them, enjoying the scenery while playing cards, chess, and other games.
Liu Ying was fortunate enough to join Zi Ye and Anjiya in their activities. The two seemed to adore her tiger cub, constantly taking turns petting it like a cat, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
The three chatted for a while until the sun had completely set. Only then did Yang Xiyan return with another girl, dressed in an elegant and beautiful little dress, exuding grace.
Liu Ying couldn’t see her clearly as she joined the other girls.
……
Yang Xiyan returned to the campsite refreshed after her bath. Before she could ask about the situation, she heard Xue Ruoqing burst into laughter, leaving her and An Leiya utterly confused.
“Yan Yan, let me tell you something—it’s hilarious! There was a lone student from another school who lied to Zi Ye and the others, claiming to be from Tian Xingzi, and they actually believed her!”
Yang Xiyan stared at her in bewilderment.
“Exactly, what a joke,” Zhen Meiyi scoffed. “Tian Xingzi is a school for geniuses, a gathering place for the world’s brightest talents. All exceptional individuals. It’s not some place where people wail just entering a theme park.”
“Yi Yi, what’s going on?” Yang Xiyan arched an eyebrow.
Zhen Meiyi quickly recounted what had happened, and the moment she finished, the other girls burst into laughter, shaking their heads.
“So, she tried to pass herself off as a Tian Xingzi student, only to run into Meiyi, who recognized her? That’s priceless!” An Leiya wiped away tears and turned to Xue Ruoqing. “Ruoqing, I remember your cousin is a student at Tian Xingzi.”
“Yep, from the Tian Xingzi Magic Formation Department quite famous at the school, too.” Xue Ruoqin’s usually haughty demeanor softened into one of admiration and respect.
“You shouldn’t mock others. It could lead to serious consequences. Anyway, go take your baths first. I’ll take a walk around.” Yang Xiyan opened her mouth, about to mention the dance, but decided against it. She didn’t want to discuss it with them.
She had encountered the mysterious and powerful Xia Qiu not only on the tour bus but also once at a dance party, where the experience left her both awestruck and heart fluttering. So when Xia Qiu approached her, claiming to be Tian Xingzi, she didn’t doubt it for a second.
But why was she here?
Someone so formidable appearing in a place like this and lying about being lost, it was undeniably strange. Collecting herself, she hurried over to find her.
Truth be told, Yang Xiyan deeply admired those who could gain admission to Tian Xingzi. The school was the dream of students worldwide, and it was her own aspiration as well. Though she had barely passed the entrance exam back then, she was ultimately rejected due to her physical limitations. With no support from her father, she had no choice but to let go of that dream.
Under the pretense of taking a stroll, Yang Xiyan soon found the woman leaning against a large tree, watching the sunset.
It was dusk, the fiery red horizon tinged with deepening shadows. The air buzzed with the sounds of insects; a noisy yet strangely serene ambiance.
Noticing the grimy tree roots beside the woman, Yang Xiyan naturally took out a handkerchief, neatly spread it over the spot, and sat down, smoothing her skirt. Tilting her head, she remarked, “What a shame—I missed the sunset.”
Liu Ying glanced at the delicate feet beside her, the black high heels adorned with ribbons that wrapped around snow-white insteps, accentuating their perfection. Above them were slender calves, then the hem of a black dress, and finally, pale shoulders. She was wearing a strapless gown and high heels!
Liu Ying’s finely arched brows twitched slightly as she smiled faintly. “With your maid here, I knew you couldn’t be far. I was just wondering where you’d gone.”
“I was bathing earlier. It took quite a while,” Yang Xiyan replied calmly, her gaze settling on the plump kitten in Liu Ying’s arms. It looked familiar, as if she’d seen it somewhere before.
“No wonder I caught the scent of flowers from afar like a whole garden in bloom,” Liu Ying said, her expression composed, though her heartbeat was slightly faster than usual. After all, she had just been peeking at someone bathing, which was undeniably awkward and suggestive.
“The conditions in the jungle are tough. Even bathing is a challenge. I had to put in quite some effort,” Liu Ying said, sitting with poised elegance. She wanted to ask about Tian Xingzi but wasn’t sure how to broach the subject.
And besides, someone as mysterious and powerful as her. Why was she here? Liu Ying had countless questions swirling in her mind.
“For you, it makes no difference, considering you’re wearing high heels and a dress.”
Liu Ying couldn’t help but fixate on her attire. The wilderness, no less! How could a mage wear something like this? A proper robe would’ve been fine, but high heels and a dress? This wasn’t some idol drama!
And it wasn’t just her,two others were dressed similarly.
“Is there a problem?” Yang Xiyan hugged her knees, looking at her in confusion.
She was the daughter of a fallen noble family, a descendant of the divine race. From childhood, she had been taught never to be improper no matter the circumstances, she must always appear beautiful, elegant, and noble, like a princess.
Once, a girl had told her, “You must be as beautiful as a princess.”
“Well… it’s not that you can’t,” Liu Ying averted her eyes slightly, “but walking like this must be uncomfortable. The jungle is full of mosquitoes and venomous insects, and the humidity is unbearable.”
“She doesn’t walk much every day, and with the insect repellent, ordinary mosquitoes can’t even pierce through my water magic barrier.” Yang Xiyan’s gaze fell on the cat resting on her thigh. “Um… can I hold it for a bit?”
Liu Ying was taken aback for a moment before nodding with a soft “Mhm.”
Yang Xiyan picked up Hu Niu, feeling its weight—chubby like a big orange tabby but not quite, more resembling a little tiger. It looked familiar, yet she couldn’t quite place it.
Still, she had always adored fluffy little animals and couldn’t resist hugging and petting it, her face lighting up with pure delight.
“Fine, let the pampered young lady be pampered then. As long as it doesn’t slow her down,” Liu Ying thought, smiling at Yang Xiyan’s happy expression. Unbeknownst to her, there was a hint of fondness in her eyes.
Everyone had their own way of doing things, and what others chose to do was none of her business. Besides, magic did make life a lot more convenient.
Yang Xiyan gently combed through Hu Niu’s fur while the cat sprawled contentedly under her touch. However, through their soul contract, Hu Niu kept complaining to Liu Ying: “Ugh, I’m not a cat! Tell this annoying woman I’m the King of Magical Beasts and to let me go right now!”
Liu Ying stifled a laugh.
As Yang Xiyan continued petting Hu Niu, she stole a glance at Liu Ying. “So, when you introduced yourself to Zi Ye and the others, you said you were Tian Xingzi. Why didn’t you provide proof to back it up?”
Liu Ying was slightly surprised but quickly understood Yang Xiyan knew she was capable. With a faint smile, she replied, “Why should I prove I’m Tian Xingzi?”
Yang Xiyan fell silent.
She had a point. Tian Xingzi’s disciples were inherently proud. Why would they bother proving such things? It was like how mages viewed ordinary people; they wouldn’t stroll through an amusement park shouting, “I’m a noble mage!”
Only when faced with trouble would they assert their status to rally morale.
Otherwise, there was no need.
Only the supremely narcissistic would constantly flaunt their identity and rank. The truly confident didn’t care whether others believed them or not.
“By the way, how many of you are there in your group, and where are you planning to train?” Liu Ying seized the opportunity to ask. But it was already late, the sky completely dark, with only the glow of the fire and magic crystal lamps illuminating the surroundings.
Yang Xiyan’s friends began calling for her, and she dared not linger any longer. With a smile, she answered, “There are twelve of us in total, including five bodyguards. We’re heading to Training Zone 12, and we’ll return once our mission is done.”
With that, she bid Liu Ying farewell and turned to leave.
The tricky part was navigating the path at night, especially in the jungle. Who knew what might lurk underfoot? But Yang Xiyan paid it no mind, striding forward with the same poised, confident gait.
With every step she took, a small magic circle materialized beneath her feet, graceful and mesmerizing. Completely unfazed by the uneven terrain.
Watching her, Liu Ying couldn’t help but chuckle wryly. Using magic for something like this.
Then again, Yang Xiyan was a pure mage through and through, so it made sense. Meanwhile, Zi Ye and Anjiya began bringing over food for her.
When Yang Xiyan returned, An Leiya and Xue Ruoqing eagerly greeted her, though the latter wore a scowl. “Yan-Yan, why on earth would you talk to someone like that? You’re hopeless!”
“We just happened to cross paths, and we did go through danger together,” Yang Xiyan replied calmly, taking a seat on the prepared chair to have her dinner.
There were twelve of them in the group. Xue Ruoqing and An Leiya were her good friends for this trip, both from ancient families as well. Though they were subsidiary families, they could almost be considered allies who supported each other.
Aside from the three of them, there was also a maid and five classmates. Three of them, who were playing cards, were from major families, while the other two were serious about training and went off to hunt monsters on their own.
Then there were five bodyguards and a butler, led by Chen Tianjing, primarily responsible for security, cooking, and handling the hunting of magical beasts.
“That still won’t do, Yan Yan. You’re the eldest daughter of the Yang family, a noble descendant of the divine race.”
What did being a descendant of the divine race even mean? Yang Xiyan didn’t dare to voice that thought aloud. She obediently sat on the chair they had prepared for her, her voice soft and gentle: “Her cat is very cute. You should go visit sometime if you have the chance.”
Yang Xiyan’s expression remained calm. This was her default demeanor as long as she wasn’t provoked. But inside, she was filled with questions. Was Xia Qiu’s appearance here just a coincidence?
She was Tian Xingzi, so she must know Lady Ying, the girl who had once protected her and given her courage.
Come to think of it, after interacting with Xia Qiu today, she hadn’t been teased at all. Yang Xiyan couldn’t help but feel a little pleased; had she matured? She needed to keep this up. Keep going!
