When the White Moonlight Holds the Script - Chapter 14
On the day she was reborn, Zhu Zhihan would never have imagined that she would one day find herself locking eyes with Luan Wu in such a place and under such circumstances.
Zhu Zhihan coughed lightly. “Well, I told my shishu, but she didn’t quite believe me.”
Luan Wu continued to stare at her gloomily.
Zhu Zhihan’s guilt deepened.
She thought how truly miserable this great villain Luan Wu was exposed by her during the grand selection, then having her shishu won over by Zhu Zhihan right after, and now, even when she coughed up blood, Luan Wu ended up shouldering the blame.
Originally, she had intended for Luan Wu to explain everything to her shishu while she was unconscious, she didn’t want to face her shishu’s disappointed expression, so she avoided it and let Luan Wu handle it instead.
Who would have thought Luan Wu would actually take the blame so firmly!
She couldn’t quite figure out what Luan Wu was thinking.
Feeling guilty, she said, “You could have just told shishu the truth. This isn’t your fault, it’s all because of me.”
Luan Wu tossed the broom aside, her face dark. “Of course, I know it’s not my fault!”
Was there anyone more innocent than her?
Zhu Zhihan laughed nervously.
Luan Wu stared at her for a moment before turning away. “What are your plans for the future?”
“Huh?”
Zhu Zhihan didn’t understand why the topic had suddenly shifted.
Luan Wu seemed to misinterpret her reaction, her expression growing even darker. “The grand ambitions you declared in front of me three days ago did you forget them after a single nap? Or did you never have any plans at all?”
“Oh, you mean that.”
Zhu Zhihan had already considered her future while at the standby point and quickly replied, “I do have some plans, but I’ll need your help.”
Luan Wu seemed to accept this explanation, her expression softening slightly.
But Zhu Zhihan was still troubled. “I have some clues, but I need to investigate further, and it can only be done after the ‘opportunity’ arrives.”
Luan Wu turned back to her, repeating her words. “Opportunity?”
Zhu Zhihan’s expression grew more complicated.
That opportunity was, of course, Su Siyue.
The entire story’s plot began after Su Siyue entered the Medicine Sect.
Su Siyue was the illegitimate daughter of a noble family, constantly bullied and neglected. Her miserable life only ended when she arrived at the Medicine Sect, where her shifu, shijie, and shixiong treated her with immense kindness and even punished her abusive family on her behalf.
But Su Siyue, being “kind-hearted,” remained unchanged despite years of mistreatment. She even spoke up for her family, earning even more sympathy from the elders of the Medicine Sect.
What followed was Su Siyue’s life as the sect’s darling, occasionally interspersed with the main plot of fighting demons.
While at the standby point, Miss System had reminded her: The fates of all characters in this story are inextricably linked to the protagonist. You can start from that angle.
It was almost an explicit hint.
By tracing Su Siyue’s footsteps or origins, they might uncover the trigger for Luan Wu’s descent into darkness.
But how to find Su Siyue was a problem.
Because Zhu Zhihan disliked Su Siyue, she had never involved herself in Su Siyue’s affairs and didn’t know where the Su Manor where Su Siyue had lived as a mortal was located.
So she and Luan Wu could only wait until Su Siyue set foot on the Medicine Sect’s mountain.
The details were complicated. Zhu Zhihan parted her lips, trying to find simpler words to explain.
Unfortunately, she had only spoken a few words when the sky suddenly darkened, and low rumbles of thunder echoed in the distance.
Zhu Zhihan shuddered.
In the next instant, Luan Wu had already moved in front of her, covering her mouth.
Luan Wu: “Alright, I understand.”
Zhu Zhihan could sense the lingering fear in Luan Wu’s heart.
“Mmph.” I really wasn’t planning to be that reckless this time! I was just testing it out!
Unfortunately, it seemed Luan Wu no longer trusted her credibility.
At such close proximity, Luan Wu looked down at her with lowered eyes: “Promise me that if I let go, you won’t continue speaking.”
Zhu Zhihan widened her eyes earnestly and nodded.
But before Luan Wu could release her hand, Zhu Zhihan heard a furious shout from behind: “Senior Sister! Are you bullying our junior disciple again?”
Zhu Zhihan: “…”
Luan Wu: “…”
Luan Wu released her hand, and the two quickly distanced themselves.
Luan Wu frowned: “Did you follow me secretly? I didn’t notice you.”
Tu Meng replied matter-of-factly: “Of course, I couldn’t let you notice! Besides, if I hadn’t followed, how would I have witnessed you bullying our junior disciple?”
“I’ve been watching from the start, you even gave her a stern look.”
Zhu Zhihan thought to herself, what a misunderstanding this was, and the more she tried to explain, the worse it got.
She quickly defended Luan Wu: “Master really wasn’t bullying me. Master was…”
Tu Meng waved her hand: “Your aunt is lecturing your master! Don’t interfere, child.”
Not wanting to let Tu Meng interrupt again, Zhu Zhihan blurted out in one breath: “Master was trying to stop me from getting struck by the Heavenly Dao again!!”
Tu Meng froze.
She asked suspiciously: “Really?”
Zhu Zhihan nodded vigorously and defended Luan Wu a few more times, even taking responsibility for the first time she was struck by lightning.
Out of personal reasons, she didn’t mention the incident during the selection ceremony, only saying that when she drank the apprenticeship tea, she had said something that provoked the Heavenly Dao, it wasn’t Luan Wu’s fault.
Tu Meng finally believed her, scratching the back of her head, feeling a bit embarrassed.
“Sorry, Senior Sister, I thought…”
Though she could be stubborn at times, she was definitely someone who could admit her mistakes, and she apologized sincerely.
Luan Wu, of course, didn’t take it to heart at all, even spacing out for a moment.
Tu Meng cut short her lengthy apology: “Hey, this is a rare apology from me! Could you at least pay attention?”
Luan Wu snapped back to reality: “Ah, are you done?”
Two veins bulged on Tu Meng’s forehead.
Zhu Zhihan couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight.
Tu Meng suddenly remembered: “Senior Sister, if it wasn’t your fault, why did you say it was your mistake earlier?”
Hearing this, Zhu Zhihan turned her head abruptly.
So, Luan Wu really had said that? Why?
Luan Wu’s expression remained unreadable, giving no hint of her thoughts: “Did I?”
Tu Meng: “Yes!”
Tu Meng didn’t dwell on it too much, her thoughts quickly shifting elsewhere: “Before this, those children who didn’t become your disciples was I misunderstanding that too.”
“Those were real. I did it,” Luan Wu replied bluntly.
Tu Meng: “…”
So there really was a history of this!
The warm atmosphere didn’t last long. Luan Wu turned to Zhu Zhihan and said, “Actually, you woke up just in time. Any later, and I would’ve had to ask Tu Meng to pass this to you.”
As she spoke, she tossed a jade pendant into Zhu Zhihan’s arms.
Zhu Zhihan hurriedly caught it: “This is…”
“Inside are some blade techniques and insights I’ve carved. Place it against your forehead to access them,” Luanwu said calmly. “I have some matters to attend to and need to go out for a while. Study on your own first, I’ll check your progress when I return.”
Zhu Zhihan instinctively tightened her grip.
The jade felt cool to the touch, its texture smooth and warm against her skin.
She soon realized that if Luanwu hadn’t previously intended to take a disciple, then this jade tablet must have been carved specifically for her over the past two days.
It hadn’t occurred to her that Luanwu would find time to do this for her.
