When the White Moonlight Holds the Script - Chapter 12
Tu Meng stared at the tightly shut door, waiting with growing anxiety.
Since both parties involved seemed willing to talk, she hadn’t insisted on staying and had stepped out instead.
To be honest, given her senior sister’s usual style, she had a feeling nothing good would come from their conversation.
But she never expected that a simple discussion would lead to heavenly thunder striking down!
Boom!
Tu Meng dodged the lightning bolt in a fluster, gritting her teeth until she could hold back no longer. With a loud crash, she kicked the door open.
Her eyes swept across the room.
Inside, Luan Wu looked disheveled, her dark pupils tinged with red, her expression almost flustered. The young girl was cradled in her arms, blood still trickling from the corner of her lips.
Was she injured?
Tu Meng felt blood rushing to her head. “Luan Wu, are you a dog?!”
She was so furious she didn’t even address her as senior sister.
It had only been a moment, just a moment since she stepped out!
And Luan Wu had already reduced the young girl to this state!
Tu Meng repeatedly reminded herself that now was not the time to assign blame. As she pulled out a high-grade healing pill from her robe and moved to feed it to the young girl, Luan Wu stopped her.
Tu Meng frowned. “What are you doing?”
Luan Wu shook her head. “I’ve already tried. It’s useless. This is a mark left by the Heavenly Dao.”
The young girl’s eyes were half-closed, her consciousness fading fast.
No one knew what would happen if things continued like this.
Tu Meng clenched her fists. “Then what do you suggest we do? You caused this take responsibility!”
Luan Wu replied, “It wasn’t me. Well, I suppose it’s my fault.”
She lowered her gaze, as if reaching a decision.
A moment later, she stood up, holding Zhu Zhihan, and said to Tu Meng, “Go to the Cold Spring first and clear the area. I’m going to guide her in drawing Qi into her body.”
Tu Meng was stunned. “You mean…”
Normally, drawing Qi into the body referred to mortals gradually developing a sense of Qi through diligent study of cultivation techniques, guiding that Qi to circulate through their meridians, a sign of officially stepping onto the path of cultivation.
But given Zhu Zhihan’s semi-conscious state and the urgency of the situation, it was impossible for her to achieve this on her own.
So what Luan Wu actually meant was that she, a high-level cultivator, would forcibly guide the Qi through Zhu Zhihan’s meridians, pulling her onto the path of cultivation. Cultivation itself defied the heavens, the stronger the cultivator, the less bound they were by the Heavenly Dao. Using this method to erase the mark of the Heavenly Dao was feasible.
Tu Meng exclaimed, “Are you serious? Doing this will damage your own cultivation, won’t it? And your condition is already unstable.”
For a cultivator like Luan Wu, who held a high position and had many enemies, a decline in cultivation was no trivial matter.
Not to mention, Luan Wu’s own situation was unique. What if something went wrong midway.
Luan Wu spoke methodically, “This is the safest method I can think of. With the Cold Spring here, nothing will go wrong.”
Tu Meng studied her frustrating senior sister, confirming there was no hesitation in her expression, and sighed in exasperation. “Fine, fine! As long as you know what you’re doing!”
Luan Wu sat in the Cold Spring, the bone-chilling cold seeping through her skin into her marrow, soothing and regulating the inherently wild and chaotic spiritual energy she had been born with.
The young girl sat in front of her, facing away.
Luan Wu refined her spiritual energy, slowly gathering it at her fingertips, lost in thought.
The young girl’s words had left her uncharacteristically confused.
Long ago, someone had told her that she was born a wicked seed, destined one day to destroy everything her eyes fell upon.
She refused to believe this so-called fate. She had mocked it sharply, resisted it silently, and drawn lines between herself and all that she cherished and loved, allowing no one to come close.
The clap of thunder moments ago felt like Heaven’s tacit approval that was the future awaiting her.
She would fall into demonhood, betray the Immortal Alliance, and commit crimes too numerous to record.
No matter how she struggled, she had still become the very thing she despised most.
Yet, this young girl was different from the person from long ago. That person had spoken those words only to torment her, but the girl sought an alliance.
The underlying meaning was clear: I know you don’t want to become that, so let’s rebel against fate together.
The girl’s eyes were bright, as if filled with light.
Luan Wu instinctively caught the collapsing girl in her arms, her mind a chaotic mess, unsure if she was hoping for the girl to say something more.
But the girl only clutched her clothes with trembling fingers, muttering intermittently, “You just promised me cultivation techniques and resources. Have you even looked at the state of the sect now. I finally understand.”
“Wasteful! How awful…”
The corner of Luan Wu’s lips lifted almost imperceptibly.
She closed her eyes, clearing her mind of all distractions, and guided a thread of spiritual energy into the girl’s body.
It was a delicate process. The spiritual meridians of mortals were incredibly fragile, and expanding them with spiritual energy required the utmost care.
Tu Meng stood watch nearby, guarding them from a distance, ready to intervene as a last resort if anything went wrong.
Fortunately, no mishaps occurred.
Guiding Qi into the body was completed smoothly.
After circulating the spiritual energy through the girl’s body once, Luan Wu withdrew.
The rest was up to the girl. From here, the spiritual energy would rotate autonomously under the girl’s unconscious guidance until she adapted to the process of Qi circulation.
Tu Meng was pleased. “Senior Sister, seeing how careful you are, it seems you’re planning to formally take our little junior niece as your disciple?”
Luan Wu remained silent.
Tu Meng, observing her expression, knew the matter was settled.
Recalling the events that had led to this, Tu Meng couldn’t help but feel annoyed. “Even though your attitude in making amends is good, this isn’t over yet! You’ll have to explain everything to me properly later!”
Luan Wu thought for a moment. “There’s nothing to explain.”
Tu Meng glared. “Hey, you’re acting pretty arrogant!”
Luan Wu: “I’ll try my best.”
“That’s more like it.” Tu Meng stroked her chin. “I noticed today that the weeds outside the ancestral hall haven’t been tended to in a long time.”
Luan Wu sighed. “I’ll pull them.”
“And the fallen leaves outside the library.”
“I’ll sweep them.”
“The punishment will last until our junior niece is no longer angry!”
“Mm.”
Having disciplined Luan Wu, Tu Meng felt much more at ease.
After a while, she suddenly sensed something amiss. “Hasn’t our junior niece been guiding Qi for too long?”
Luan Wu frowned as well. “It is a bit long.”
“Wait.” Luan Wu focused intently. “She’s already at the first layer of Qi Refining. She’s, breaking through.”
As soon as Luan Wu spoke, even Tu Meng could feel the spiritual energy around them flowing, being drawn toward the girl at the center of the cold pond.
“Second layer of Qi Refining.”
“Third layer.”
“Fourth layer.”
“……”
“Foundation Establishment Perfection!?”
Tu Meng’s mouth hung wide open, nearly choking on her own breath.
What in the world was going on!?
She had heard of prodigies skipping stages when first guiding Qi into their bodies, but never to such an extreme!
Shaken, she turned to Luan Wu: “Did you do this?”
Luan Wu stared at the girl in the cold pond and shook her head: “No, I only helped guide the Qi pathways. It was her.”
She broke through entirely on her own.
Zhu Zhihan felt as if she had been drifting between dreams and wakefulness.
Sometimes she could hear the voices around her, other times they faded away.
Later, a surge of spiritual energy flowed into her from behind, expanding her meridians. It was painful, but bearable.
The pathway this energy took was different from what she was accustomed to in her past life, a distinction in cultivation techniques.
She couldn’t command this energy, so she focused on memorizing the route it traveled.
After the energy completed one full cycle through her body.
A buzzing filled her head, and she jolted fully awake.
