Chapter 2: Entertainment Industry Arc
“Yunqing?” Yin Ziming knitted his brows. Not wanting to lose face in front of a beauty, he suppressed his anger and glared fiercely at Yin Fengxuan. He turned around, intending to pull Ning Yunqing away. “Let’s go! If she won’t let you act, we don’t care anyway! My company has plenty of other big projects with hundreds of millions in investment—way better than her small-budget flick!”
“Quiet.” Ning Yunqing avoided Yin Ziming’s hand. Her calm voice made Yin Ziming flinch. He stared blankly at his usually submissive little beauty, wondering if he had just hallucinated.
“Miss Yin is the director I admire most; I don’t want to give up just like this. Yin Shao, could you wait for me downstairs, please?”
With gentle eyes and a soft voice carrying a hint of coquettishness, Yin Ziming was overjoyed. He decided he must have imagined her coldness earlier. Squinting his eyes, he agreed, “Why call me Yin Shao? That’s so distant. Just call me Brother Ziming. I’ll head out first.” As he spoke, he suddenly raised his voice, glancing sideways at Yin Fengxuan with a huff: “If she dares to give you an attitude again, come tell me. I’ll shut down her project!”
Watching Yin Ziming look back at her, Ning Yunqing wiped the disdain from her face and replied with a smile, “Okay.”
After seeing Yin Ziming out, Ning Yunqing double-locked the door and turned back. Her gaze fixed on the woman in the executive chair. That woman hadn’t spared her a single direct look since she entered. Taking advantage of the short walk toward her, Ning Yunqing searched her memories of the previous events.
She had been brought in through the “back door” by Young Master Yin. Yin Fengxuan, seeing that she looked the part for a role in her movie, made an exception and gave her a scene to audition for. However, the original host was so nervous she couldn’t utter a single word. Yin Fengxuan, who already had a distaste for the “playthings” of rich second-generation heirs like her brother, kicked her out in less than a minute.
It seems Fengxuan’s temper in this world isn’t very good. Ning Yunqing pursed her lips slightly. Before she could even get close, Yin Fengxuan began driving her away again: “Get out.”
The cold, detached voice was tinged with alienation. Ning Yunqing felt uncomfortable. Ignoring the owner’s command, she walked to the desk, pulled out the opposite chair, and sat down.
Yin Fengxuan looked up, arms crossed, head resting slightly against the back of the chair with her chin tilted up. That half-smiling expression looked exactly like the Yin Fengxuan she knew. Unfortunately, while the spirit was there, the form was not the woman before her had beautiful features, but none of them overlapped with her Fengxuan.
Ning Yunqing sighed inwardly, feeling a sense of regret. She lowered her head and gently flipped through the script in front of her.
Yin Fengxuan watched her through half-lidded eyes. “Don’t think that just because that brat is backing you, I won’t dare kick you out. I’ll say it one last time: get out, or I’m calling security.”
“Miss Yin, are you going to miss out on a great actress?” Ning Yunqing curled her lips, showing no sign of panic. Yin Fengxuan looked at her with amusement someone who couldn’t even remember lines dared to call herself a great actress? She reached for the telephone.
Resting her arms on the desk, Ning Yunqing leaned forward slightly, looking directly into Yin Fengxuan’s eyes with determination. “Yin Fengxuan, do you dare to make a bet with me?”
The moment those words were spoken, Yin Fengxuan sat up straight. It wasn’t because of the provocation, but because this specific scene was exactly the effect she wanted for her movie. At that moment, looking at Ning Yunqing felt like looking at the protagonist of her film. Interesting. Yin Fengxuan curled her lips. “Continue.”
Ning Yunqing pushed off the table and stood up, sweeping the documents onto the floor with a crash. “Why aren’t you saying anything? Are you mute? Do you f***ing know that I just lost the baby because of you!” Her body trembled slightly, and tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke, swirling but refusing to fall.
This was another climactic scene from the script. Yin Fengxuan stood up. Seeing Ning Yunqing’s tragic expression, she lightly touched her shoulder.
“Don’t touch me!” Ning Yunqing swung her hand back to slap her. Yin Fengxuan’s face went pale—she expected a violent slap as per the script, but she didn’t expect the palm to land softly, gently caressing her cheek instead.
A newborn calf who isn’t afraid of the tiger? Yin Fengxuan narrowed her eyes and pulled away the hand that was “taking liberties” with her. Looking into the other’s smiling eyes, she couldn’t help but feel annoyed. “Are you done making a scene?”
Ning Yunqing looked at her innocently. Yin Fengxuan played along, keeping a cold face. “If you’re done acting crazy, get out.”
Not following the script? Ning Yunqing was surprised. She softened her posture, looking piteously at Yin Fengxuan. Seeing that Yin Fengxuan remained unmoved, she slumped her shoulders and dejectedly walked out. Just as she turned the knob and stepped outside, she heard Yin Fengxuan call out, “Wait.”
Ning Yunqing felt a surge of joy and turned back expectantly. Based on typical plots, she thought she was about to be offered the role.
Yin Fengxuan beckoned her over. Ning Yunqing walked back with a pure, hopeful smile. “Director Yin?”
Yin Fengxuan glanced at the documents scattered all over the floor and uttered four extremely stingy words: “Clean up, then leave.” After that, without even looking at Ning Yunqing, she pushed the door open and walked out.
What’s the situation? Ning Yunqing raised an eyebrow. As expected of a new mission these people’s logic was truly unique. Stooping down, she gathered the papers. Placing them on the desk, she noticed a slip of paper tucked into the script. She pulled it out:
“November 6th, 9:00 PM, Grand Westin Hotel.”
With a slight curve of her lips, Ning Yunqing tucked the note back, took the script, and quietly closed the door.
In the early stages of a mission, the world settings and full plotlines are available for free. While waiting for the elevator, Ning Yunqing pulled up Young Master Yin’s profile.
Yin Ziming: Male, 23 years old. Crown prince and current President of Shihua Shadows. He holds 90% of the Yin family’s assets. He is the designated “Male Lead” of this story—mindlessly wealthy, profligate, and fickle. When he likes someone, he spoils them to the heavens; when he’s bored, he discards them like trash.
According to the “Angst/Abuse” plot, the female lead and Yin Ziming follow a path from sweet to bitter, then bitter, bitter, and more bitter. After Yin Ziming discovers she isn’t actually a film student, he feels deceived and dumps her. But he doesn’t let her go; under the guise of “mercy” to help her pay off her family’s debts, he keeps her in the company to clean toilets.
Meanwhile, he cycles through several girlfriends from the film academy, bringing each one in front of Ning Yunqing to humiliate her. Eventually, unable to bear the harassment from debt collectors and the shame from her lover, the female lead attempts suicide by slitting her wrists.
Yin Ziming saves her, but to “repay” the medical bills, he rapes her while she is weak and unable to resist in the hospital. She gets pregnant, thinking this is her light at the end of the tunnel, only for his new girlfriend to push her down and cause a miscarriage right before the due date. Not only does the baby die, but the girlfriend fakes a DNA test to prove the baby wasn’t Yin’s. Believing he’s been cuckolded, Yin Ziming thoroughly loathes the female lead and ignores her.
With no job and no benefactor, the female lead works day and night to pay off her scumbag father’s debts until she falls ill and collapses in a luxury hotel where she works. Coincidentally, Yin Ziming sees her. Feeling a flicker of pity, he takes her to the hospital, where “indescribable things” happen, resulting in another pregnancy.
The female lead, broken by her father and life, suffers a mental breakdown; she actually starts believing Yin Ziming is a savior sent from heaven and falls head over heels for him. For the sake of the child, Yin Ziming marries her. Happy Ending. Story over.
“…” What kind of ghost plot is this? Ning Yunqing sneered. After being abused like that, she still rushes to marry him? Please, don’t let a brain-dead character share the same name as her.
Thinking about how this plot was designed by a rival she had defeated in another dimension, Ning Yunqing guessed the author of this world was a die-hard fan of the “Domineering CEO’s Cruel Love” series. Poor kid, so young and already has a broken brain. Tucking a long strand of hair behind her ear, Ning Yunqing sighed and walked out.
“Yunqing!”
Exiting the Shihua Shadows building, Ning Yunqing saw Young Master Yin leaning against a blindingly flashy luxury sports car, waving at her with a wide, toothy grin. Ning Yunqing smiled slightly, “Yin Shao.”
Yin Ziming saw her holding the script and walked over happily. “That stiff woman finally relented and gave you the role?”
Ning Yunqing didn’t like the man destined to abuse her, and she liked it even less when people spoke disrespectfully of her Fengxuan. Mentally adding another “sin” to Yin Ziming’s tally, she replied with a smile: “Not sure yet. Director Yin just let me keep the script.”
“If she gave you the script, she’s definitely letting you act. Looks like my influence is good for something.” Feeling great about himself, the Young Master sought credit: “Yunqing, I’ve helped you so much, how do you plan to thank me?”
How about a punch to the face? Ning Yunqing maintained her warm smile. She guessed his next move was either to “touch fish” or find an excuse to get physical. Looking down at her cheap wristwatch, she said apologetically: “I am truly grateful, Yin Shao. It’s just that I need to get back to school; the lecture is about to start. This is a rare opportunity and I don’t want to miss it. Can I thank you another day?”
Yin Ziming pouted. After an internal struggle, he opened the car door. “Get in, I’ll go listen to the lecture with you.”
You just want to grope me that badly? Ning Yunqing lowered her head, rubbing her hands together with a look of pure apology. “No, it’s okay. It’s not far; I can head back myself.”
Yin Ziming loved this pure look of hers; she was much more refreshing than the heavily made-up women he usually knew. He insisted on driving her, but Ning Yunqing refused, saying people might misunderstand if they saw them. Yin Ziming couldn’t win, but he thought: She doesn’t want my money, she doesn’t want to show off she’s so pure and noble! What a great girl!
Happy, he shoved a card directly into her small bag. “Since you won’t let me drive you, take a taxi.” Seeing her try to return it, he quickly retreated into the car, rolled down the window, and waved. “Keep it for spending!”
Once the flashy teeth were gone, Ning Yunqing dropped her disguise. Pulling the gold-dragon black card from her bag, she curled her lips and flicked it into a nearby trash can with two fingers. She, Ning Yunqing, never needed charity. If she wanted money, she would earn it herself.
Tucking a stray hair away from her eyes, Ning Yunqing clutched the script and walked away with her head held high. Now, she needed to go home and deal with her scumbag father.
Behind a window, the curtains swayed slightly. A woman with center-parted long hair took a sip of coffee, a hint of a smile hidden at the corners of her mouth.
