Chapter 16: Wuxia Arc
“That brat really never changes.” Having kicked Yin Ziming out, Yin Fengxuan lay languidly on the sofa. Ning Yunqing came out holding a gift box and comforted her, “If he annoys you, I can make him quiet.”
Yin Fengxuan recalled the destitute man she had seen on TV and felt a sudden chill. She waved her hand. “Forget it. He is my brother, after all. He’s annoying, but he still remembers to send me gifts during the holidays. Now that he’s been demoted from President to a small manager, he’s learned his lesson. If he acts up again, I’ll demote him to a regular clerk. Anyway, let’s not talk about him. What’s in your hand?”
Ning Yunqing held the box up, looking mysterious. “A gift for you.”
Yin Fengxuan beckoned her over. “Is this a ‘thank you’ for getting you that Best Actress award?”
Ning Yunqing smiled and shook her head. How irritating, she’s not following the script! Yin Fengxuan lightly punched Ning Yunqing’s chest. “You really don’t know what’s good for you, little girl. You have the talent, but without me, you might not have won. That spendthrift brother of mine bribed a lot of judges. You’re lucky the Chairman is an old friend of mine and a man of integrity. Once I spoke to him, he launched an investigation. You really benefited from that.”
Ning Yunqing leaned into her ear and gave it an intimate little nibble. “I know you’re the best. This gift is to please you and to ‘plead for forgiveness’.”
“Hmph.” Yin Fengxuan turned her head away, though curiosity was getting the better of her. She ordered, “Open the box and let me see.”
Ning Yunqing nodded, quickly unpacked the box, and pulled out the gift.
“What is this?” Yin Fengxuan frowned. It was a piece of red cloth. As she touched it and saw Ning Yunqing’s face turn red, she suddenly understood. “Lingerie?”
Ning Yunqing nodded, her face flushing due to her character setting. “I used yours before; this one is to pay you back.”
Wait, where is the ‘pleading for forgiveness’? Yin Fengxuan huffed. She hooked the garment with her finger, looking at the fabric that was so sheer it might as well not be there. She suddenly imagined both of them wearing such things vivid color, very beautiful. She reached out her hand. “You wear it.”
“I won’t. You put it on and come inside; I have another gift for you.” Ning Yunqing refused with a red face, pushed the clothes toward Yin Fengxuan, turned, and ran into the room, locking the door.
Yin Fengxuan was a bit stunned, thinking Ning Yunqing’s expression just now was quite cute. There must be something even more revealing hidden in that room. Yin Fengxuan smiled and readily changed her clothes. When she entered Ning Yunqing’s room, she was indeed startled. Ning Yunqing’s “gift” was herself she was wearing the exact same style of lingerie, but in black.
“You really are shy.” Yin Fengxuan approached her, the visual enough to make anyone’s face burn. Ning Yunqing, thanks to her character setting, was burning up even more. She walked toward Yin Fengxuan. Years of passion were revitalized, and the moment they touched, they began to kiss.
From standing to sitting, and from sitting to lying down. Ning Yunqing’s cherry lips curved as she stroked Yin Fengxuan’s features, smiling seductively. “Am I ‘qualified’ now?”
Yin Fengxuan shook her head, flipped over, and kissed her again. After a moment, she “stole a taste” of Ning Yunqing before laughing. “Now you’re qualified.” Reflecting Ning Yunqing in her eyes, Yin Fengxuan’s voice was as soft as water. “Yunqing, it’s so strange. Even though we haven’t known each other long, I feel like I fell in love with you a long time ago.”
“You love me?” Ning Yunqing laughed happily. Sensing a change in the spiritual intelligence, she hugged Yin Fengxuan even tighter. “Fengxuan, I missed you, I missed you so much.”
Yin Fengxuan leaned against her chest, stroking Ning Yunqing’s hair. “Yunqing, I’m not going anywhere. Why are you holding me so tight? I can’t breathe.” After a moment, she also became nervous, saying blankly, “How strange… why do I feel like I’m about to leave you too?”
“Yunqing, I love you.” Yin Fengxuan kissed her lips. Ning Yunqing kissed back, but the soft sensation gradually faded, and the word “love” drifted away in her ears.
“What are you thinking about?”
When she opened her eyes again, the world had changed. The tip of a sharp sword was pressed against her nose. Holding the sword was a cold, stunning beauty. Ning Yunqing looked at her, gazing into those eyes that radiated a chilling frost. Suddenly, she smiled. She had found her Fengxuan again. She didn’t recognize this peerless face, but she recognized the voice—that “ear-impregnating” heavenly voice was exactly the same as her Fengxuan’s.
“I’m thinking of you,” Ning Yunqing said with a smile.
The beauty frowned slightly. She retracted the sword and struck Ning Yunqing’s shoulder with her palm. The strike was clearly restrained, yet it still knocked Ning Yunqing to the ground. The beauty’s phoenix eyes swept over her, staring at the woman on the ground who showed neither panic nor anger. She gave a cold sneer.
“Don’t think you can deceive me with that. I know who you are thinking about. Distracted during practice—I punish you to practice that move a hundred times right here.” With a wave of her sleeve, the beauty turned and left.
Ning Yunqing’s face still bore a smile. She glanced at the nearby maid, who was filled with both worry and surprise. She suddenly retracted her smile, lightly wiped the blood from the corner of her lips, and ordered the maid to bring her the sword.
The maid complied, offering the sword with both hands. She stammered, “Second Palace Mistress, your injury…”
“It’s nothing. You may leave.” With a casual flick of the sword, Ning Yunqing began to enjoy her lover’s “punishment” while opening the system to check the plot of this world.
This time, she was in a Wuxia (martial arts) world. Her status was much better than the previous world: she was the Second Palace Mistress of the renowned Nether Palace, wealthy and powerful. It sounded glorious, but as the heroine of an “Angst/Abuse” novel, how could there not be suffering?
And suffer she did. The source of her angst was a sadistic Senior Sister Jiang Chenyue, the First Palace Mistress of Nether Palace. Jiang Chenyue was a “power-level bug” in this world; she was so strong she could crush two Ning Yunqings. Normally, one should just obey such a person, but the original heroine of this world said “no.”
She insisted on causing trouble. If Jiang Chenyue took an interest in a handsome young man they rescued, the heroine would take an interest too, developing feelings for him while tending his wounds and feeding him medicine.
Jiang Chenyue was arrogant and solitary, unable to tolerate her possessions being tainted. The heroine understood this, but to avoid dying at her sister’s hands, she eloped with her new lover, the handsome Master Xie, thus embarking on a path of self-destruction. Not only were they hunted by her sister, but she also discovered that Master Xie was a trap—an “underhanded move” by the righteous martial arts factions to destroy Nether Palace by making the two sisters turn on each other.
As mentioned, Jiang Chenyue was a bug in terms of power, so in the end, only the poor heroine was hurt. The sister killed Master Xie, but just as she was about to kill the heroine, she remembered their master’s dying wish to take care of her. In a moment of soft-heartedness, she crippled the heroine’s martial arts but spared her life.
The heroine became a disabled person who could no longer practice martial arts; she was useless to the “righteous” factions and discarded like trash. Since Master Xie was dead, his family blamed the heroine and sought revenge. Now a weak woman, she couldn’t defend herself. Just as she was about to die, her sister saved her again.
Filled with guilt, the heroine decided to atone for her sins. Her sister had “S” (sadistic) tendencies and loved watching people suffer; she “kindly” agreed, threw the heroine back into Nether Palace, locked her in a dark room, and whipped her whenever she felt displeased.
The story ended with the heroine spending the rest of her life in that dark room.
“…” There are a lot of people with issues in this space. Ignoring the fact that she was the heroine, Ning Yunqing felt that the character Jiang Chenyue was actually quite similar to her—though if she were Jiang Chenyue, she would have been even more ruthless. Swinging her sword, Ning Yunqing tossed that thought aside and checked the events leading up to her arrival.
It turned out that two days before she arrived, the male lead, Xie Yushu, had “visited” Nether Palace. His method was unique: wearing a blood-stained white robe, he collapsed the moment he saw the palace gates. He was as dedicated as a professional scammer.
Nether Palace was populated entirely by women. The gatekeepers were young girls in their late teens. Seeing such a handsome man collapse, they didn’t think twice and immediately reported it. The daily affairs of the palace were managed by the Second Palace Mistress. The original owner of Ning Yunqing’s body went out to investigate and, bound by the plot, felt attracted to the man. She brought him back into the palace without informing her sister.
There are no secrets in this world. Just as the Second Palace Mistress was gently applying medicine to Master Xie, the First Palace Mistress, Jiang Chenyue, walked in. Jiang Chenyue was a martial arts fanatic, but that didn’t stop her from being a “visualist” (loving beauty). Xie Yushu was extremely handsome, and Jiang Chenyue liked him at first sight.
To her, “liking” something meant it was hers. The Second Palace Mistress knew this, and the seeds of rebellion were sown though at that point, she still feared her sister and didn’t dare act out. When her sister ordered her to leave, she obeyed.
Ning Yunqing suddenly understood why she was being punished. Her Fengxuan thought she was thinking about Master Xie.
“Xie Yushu.” Silently reciting the male lead’s name, Ning Yunqing’s sword style suddenly became cold and fierce. Trying to steal my lover with just a face? It seems he doesn’t want that face anymore.
The wind from her sword shook the branches, scattering pale plum blossoms across the ground. Ning Yunqing sheathed her sword; as she turned to leave, the plum tree fell behind her.
Under the moonlight, Ning Yunqing went alone to find Xie Yushu. He had been placed by Jiang Chenyue in the North Pavilion of Nether Palace, guarded by palace maids. To avoid them, Ning Yunqing used her light-body technique to leap into the building. The interior was silent; Xie Yushu had likely not woken up yet, which saved Ning Yunqing a lot of trouble.
Stepping quietly to the bedside, Ning Yunqing stared at Xie Yushu’s pale, handsome face. She slowly reached out her hand, internal power condensing at her fingertips. One more inch and the man would lose his looks forever. Ning Yunqing smiled faintly as she moved her hand closer, but at that exact moment, a force suddenly struck from behind, pulling her upright.
“What do you think you are doing?”
Turning around, she saw the familiar figure standing before her, radiating a bone-chilling frost.
