When The Harem Novel’s Heroine Meets The Tragic Heroine - Chapter 5
The cool sister’s profile picture was a crescent moon, and her WeChat name consisted of only a single character, Yu.
Her Moments were set to only display the last three days, and within those three days, there were no updates at all.
Bei Qiuqiu was worried that the punishment for changing the plot might fall upon the cool sister. Anxious, she quickly began typing a message.
“Sister, did you get an electric shock today?”
Quickly realizing that asking this was far too direct, Bei Qiuqiu had to delete it character by character and reorganize her language.
“Hello sister, how are you doing now? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?”
Bei Qiuqiu read it over twice in her head and deleted it again.
She didn’t know how strong the punishment’s electric shock was, how long it would last, or if it was life-threatening. It was the unknown that was truly terrifying.
What if the cool sister suffered severe harm because she stood up for her?
But asking like that would seem incredibly strange.
Bei Qiuqiu felt that after meeting this cool sister, she had become stupid. After deleting and revising several times, she finally sent a tentative message: “Hello sister, thank you so much for today. I want to return your coat to you. When are you free?”
After the message was sent, Bei Qiuqiu sat by the roadside waiting for a reply.
Time passed minute by minute. It was almost midnight, and even the passing vehicles were beginning to thin out.
Bei Qiuqiu checked her phone every so often, but unfortunately, the message she sent was like a stone sinking into the sea—it received no response for a long time.
Distraught and restless, she hesitated for a long while before placing a video call.
The ringing tone lasted for a good while before being hung up.
The phone displayed that the other party had declined; it was a manual hang-up.
This was likely the first time since becoming famous that Bei Qiuqiu had encountered such a thing.
She wasn’t angry, though. Being able to hang up meant the other person was conscious.
She just didn’t know if it was declined because it was too late and she was disturbing someone’s sleep, or for some other reason.
Bei Qiuqiu didn’t persist in calling again and decided to try again early the next morning.
She didn’t return to the Bei family home but instead checked into a room at a nearby hotel.
A lot had happened today, and with her thoughts in a mess, she wasn’t sleepy. She opened a bottle of wine to sip slowly, finally falling into a hazy sleep on the sofa during the latter half of the night.
The next day, she didn’t wake up until the sun was high in the sky.
Upon waking, Bei Qiuqiu immediately searched for her phone to unlock it. There were many missed calls. One was from Qin Anjue; without the plot’s forced requirement, she didn’t want to deal with him at all and decisively ignored it.
The remaining dozen or so were from the Bei family’s landline, along with text messages sent by Liang Meiyue.
Liang Meiyue must have found out she went to see Qin Anjue and called one after another. She didn’t even look at the messages before deleting them.
She figured Liang Meiyue wouldn’t have anything pleasant to say anyway.
Clicking on WeChat, the profile picture belonging to the cool sister was quiet, with no new messages.
Bei Qiuqiu’s mood was complicated. The sister is so aloof.
She rushed into the bathroom to freshen up, making herself look beautiful before dialing the video call once more.
Logically speaking, it was quite impolite to direct-call a stranger she had only met once.
But having lost her composure and politeness yesterday, pushing her luck today felt strangely familiar.
As the ringing tone chimed, Bei Qiuqiu’s heart leapt into her throat. Would it be hung up again?
If it was hung up again, what should she do next?
Amidst her wild thoughts, the image on the phone screen suddenly changed.
From a low-angle shot, a familiar figure appeared before her eyes. She was still wearing a long-sleeved top with buttons done up to the very top. Her hair was slightly messy but didn’t look unkempt at all; instead, it carried a sort of temptation that broke through her ascetic aura.
Bei Qiuqiu quickly put on a sweet, charming smile. Just as she was about to speak, she saw the other person’s eyes widen as if in great surprise, leaning closer to the screen.
A handsome and exquisite face suddenly occupied the entire phone screen. Snowy cheeks, pink skin, clear eyes, and rosy lips.
Hit by this sudden “crit” of beauty, Bei Qiuqiu’s breath hitched, and she nearly lost her soul.
She opened her mouth, wanting to scream like a frantic fan: “Sister, kill me!”
Fortunately, she held it in. Seeing that the cool sister seemed to be in good condition, she flashed her sweetest smile and asked crisply, “Good morning, sister!”
Yu Qingling was shocked.
She thought being able to complete a real-time conversation across miles through a piece of metal was shocking enough.
In the world she used to live in, aside from the commonly used carrier pigeons, even an “800-li express” horse wasn’t that fast at delivering information.
She hadn’t expected that, besides real-time conversation, she could directly see the other person’s appearance.
The shock, which surpassed her imagination, caused Yu Qingling to momentarily ignore the girl’s greeting.
Receiving no response, Bei Qiuqiu awkwardly rubbed the tip of her nose. When she spoke again, her voice was a bit softer. “Actually, it’s not early anymore. It’s almost time for lunch.”
Yu Qingling finally snapped out of it, her eyes fixed tightly on the phone screen as she hummed a “Mhm.”
Cold, distant, and sparing with words.
Bei Qiuqiu had the illusion that if she didn’t say something meaningful, the other person would hang up immediately. “Sister, I want to treat you to a meal and return your coat at the same time.”
Yu Qingling responded with a “Good.”
Bei Qiuqiu’s smile was brilliant. “Then I’ll come pick you up. Sister, where are you?”
After Yu Qingling gave her the address, the girl on the other side hurriedly said “See you later,” and the video call was disconnected.
Yu Qingling touched the phone screen with a bit of lingering interest, then stared blankly at the scorching sun in the sky.
After an unknown amount of time, the phone vibrated again.
This time, she still clicked the green dot. Last night, when the phone rang, she had clicked the red dot and the screen light went out with nothing happening; she vaguely guessed what the red and green represented.
The video connected, and the girl inside had a bright smile, the background behind her having changed.
“Sister, I’m at your residential gate! You can come out now.”
Yu Qingling nodded. This time, before hanging up, she reached out her finger and tapped the red dot. The next moment, the video disconnected.
Just as I expected, Yu Qingling curled her lips slightly.
However, thinking about the upcoming outing, she flattened her lip line again.
Since coming to this world, she had only gone out once. The whole process had been stumbling and awkward, and because she completely misunderstood this world, she had behaved in ways that didn’t fit in, being mocked and stared at by passersby.
But this time, with a cute local girl to lead her, it should be better.
At noon, when the sun was at its harshest, there were few people at the residential gate.
Bei Qiuqiu parked her car in the parking lot in front of the gate. Propping up her head, she stared forward without blinking. From a distance, she saw the great beauty walking slowly under the scorching sun, looking as if she couldn’t feel the burning heat on her skin.
Bei Qiuqiu quickly grabbed an umbrella, opened the car door, and ran down.
She held the umbrella, moving it toward the middle of the two of them, while her other hand naturally hooked onto Yu Qingling’s arm. “Sister, your skin is so good even without sun protection. I’m so envious.”
Yu Qingling’s body stiffened when the other person leaned in. She had never been so close to anyone before and instinctively wanted to move away or push the person back.
But the girl beside her was sweet and thoughtful, the hand on her arm was very soft, and the umbrella over her head brought a comfortable shade. A faint fruity scent wafted past her nose intermittently.
Yu Qingling lowered her hand again.
Yu Qingling was not good with words; she was only good with blades and spears. She didn’t know how to answer the question the little girl tossed her for a moment. She felt a flash of nervousness, but coldness was her best mask. She hummed an “Mhm” and didn’t speak again.
This caused Bei Qiuqiu to secretly lament once more that the sister was just too aloof.
Generally speaking, it is quite difficult to become friends with someone who is too cold, let alone when she wanted more than just being friends.
