What Your Majesty Desires - Chapter 3.8
Marilyn nodded at the ladies’ words. Though light occasionally leaked from around her chest, it wasn’t the Blue Diamond.
[There was no Blue Diamond. I had hoped, since it was a place Rodri secretly frequented, but it seems it’s just a woman’s room.]
[I know.]
Jerome and Hernis’ conversation, which she couldn’t understand at the time. She had wondered why the prince of the Gler Empire would come all the way to the remote west tower of the castle to look for something, but now she knew the reason. And the reason why the Gler Empire, with so many countries around, suddenly proposed a royal marriage to Dextin, with whom they had no exchange.
‘What if people mistake this for the Blue Diamond?’
Of all colors, it had to be blue.
With a worried face, Marilyn bit her lip. If her secret were discovered, perhaps something even more terrifying than execution might befall her.
‘Was I destined for this after all?’
Not knowing this would happen, she had waited for the day she would be disowned, locked away in a small room in the west tower for thirteen years. She couldn’t accept the fact that she, who had never lived like a princess, would be executed tomorrow for being a princess, but the fact that it was because of the Blue Diamond made Marilyn even more withdrawn.
“It’s a great relief that your father couldn’t attend the engagement ceremony because he was ill.”
At that moment, a lady cautiously joined the conversation in a slightly brighter voice. It was Isabella, who had spoken to Marilyn first.
“The news must have reached our territory by now, right? I hope my father quickly brings the ransom and comes to take me and my mother. When my father comes, I’ll talk to him and you can all go together…”
“Don’t get your hopes up.”
“Huh? Don’t get my hopes up? What do you mean?”
Several ladies looked at the bewildered young lady with pity. Marilyn also knew why she shouldn’t get her hopes up.
“The Gler Empire doesn’t exchange prisoners for silver.”
“They don’t exchange? If not silver, do they only accept gold?”
No.
[The Gler Empire doesn’t follow international law.]
It was fortunate that only Marilyn had heard Hernis’ terribly heartless words.
“My dad cherishes me, so he’ll bring all the gold, even if it’s gold. How much do I need to bring…?”
“They won’t exchange for gold or gold mining rights at all.”
“Why, why?”
“If they just kill everyone, everything there is theirs. Why would they bother exchanging ransom?”
“……Huh?”
Even in the darkness, Marilyn could feel Isabella’s hand trembling.
Isabella, who had thought that she could be released soon if her family brought a hefty ransom, even though she was captured here, soon had her shoulders shaking violently.
“If they’re not going to exchange prisoners, why did they keep us alive?”
“They must have kept some alive because they need nobles to testify in the trial. But I think we’ll be used for other purposes.”
“Other, purposes?”
“You can tell just by looking at the people who were dragged here. Did they ask us about our status or family when they brought us?”
“……”
No.
Isabella’s voice was filled with fear. Everyone must have felt the same way. A hazy mist settled in the dark iron cage.
“We’re all women, so…”
No way.
It couldn’t be.
She shook her head, but she couldn’t help but have bad thoughts filling her mind. Even Marilyn, whose execution was confirmed for tomorrow.
