What Your Majesty Desires - Chapter 3.4
“Understood.” I’m always on your side, as the next Emperor Kaulus looked at Duke Curtis’s slyly smiling face as if he were trustworthy. “If you get any news from Dextin Castle, let me know immediately. I’ve planted a quick-witted fellow there, and he’ll send a messenger right away if he sees anything suspicious.”
“Yes, Your Grace.” Duke Curtis watched Kaulus busily putting on his coat and respectfully clasped his hands.
The reason Asterion Emperor was growing old, growing old, but still hesitant to hand over the throne to Kaulus was purely because of Hernis.
Asterion Emperor secretly wanted his second son, Hernis, to receive the throne.
So, the only way was to get rid of him so that there would be no regrets.
If this goes well, and Kaulus safely sits on the throne as the next Emperor, the Gler Empire would belong to the Curtis Dukedom from now on.
Dextin Castle.
Marilyn was walking down a long corridor after passing through a long spiral staircase.
“This way.”
“Oh, okay.”
She was a princess in name, but she didn’t even know the way.
Curtis was consistently polite to Marilyn, who kept turning in different directions unless he told her where to go in advance.
“This is my first time coming out to this place…”
“Is that so.”
“Yeah.”
Despite her pathetic excuse, Curtis nodded politely.
Then, he switched places and stood ahead of her.
“Then I will guide you well.”
“Okay. Thank you.”
“I’m Curtis. Please feel comfortable with me.”
“Okay.”
She was suddenly being guided by a knight from the invading country who had arrived at this castle for the first time today.
Marilyn hastened her steps so as not to stray too far from Curtis, unable to even think about secretly running away from behind.
On the way, in the middle of a small fountain, stood a statue of the goddess Nike, who protects Dextin.
‘Is this the goddess’s will?’
Marilyn asked softly, looking up at the statue of the goddess.
Frankly, she didn’t care if Dextin fell.
She was just worried that innocent people, including Aiden, would be sacrificed as a result.
“Stop!”
But suddenly, a chilling voice came from behind.
Was she dawdling too much?
“Commander, what’s wrong?”
Curtis quickly went back to greet Jerome, who was approaching, to meet his superior.
Marilyn also looked at Jerome with a very nervous face.
Jerome was the one who had disliked her the most since they first met at the stone tower.
Perhaps he had come down to kill her right away, instead of putting her on trial tomorrow. Marilyn involuntarily took a step back at Jerome’s cold gaze.
“Wear these!”
But he threw something at her.
The moment of flinching was embarrassing, but what Jerome threw at her wasn’t that scary.
“This is…?”
It was shoes.
Marilyn looked at Jerome with surprised eyes.
She only wondered how Jerome had found and brought her only pair of shoes for going out, which she had kept neatly in the closet because she rarely left the castle tower.
“Oh, so you’ve been walking without shoes until now?”
Only then did Curtis realize that she was barefoot, and he quickly picked up Marilyn’s shoes from the floor.
Hernis had ordered him to ‘escort’ her, but Curtis had been trying to treat her well in his own way, as she had lived as a princess until this morning.
But to make her walk on a dirt road without even basic shoes.
With a sorry heart, Curtis’s hands moved even more busily.
“I’ll put them on for you. Please give me your foot.”
“Oh, no. I’ll…”
“Curtis?”
But Curtis was the only one who thought of her as a princess.
“Doesn’t that woman have hands? Why are you kneeling down and putting shoes on a prisoner?”
“Ah.”
He didn’t know it wasn’t allowed. At Jerome’s sharp remark, Curtis quietly put down Marilyn’s shoes in his hand.
“You are a direct bodyguard of Prince Hernis from the Great Gler Empire. Act according to your position!”
“I’m sorry.”
If you reverse what you just heard.
It also meant that Jerome, who leads the direct bodyguard of Prince Hernis from the Great Gler Empire, had rushed all the way here just to deliver Marilyn’s shoes.
Curtis, who immediately understood where Jerome’s anger came from, quickly stepped back so as not to offend his superior.
“And you!”
“Yes? Yes, yes.”
Marilyn, who had been frozen with Curtis, flinched in surprise at Jerome’s designation and raised her head.
“His Highness is going to do great things in the future. I will not forgive you if you dare to disturb His Highness’s mind or hinder his path.”
“……”
She had never disturbed his mind, nor was she a person who could hinder him.
Even though she didn’t understand what he was saying, Marilyn nodded without delay, indicating that she understood.
Jerome stared at Marilyn’s face as if to kill her for a while, then suddenly turned his body and strode away.
Marilyn couldn’t breathe properly, afraid that Jerome would turn around, and she just trembled in place.
“Princess, are you alright?”
Only when Curtis raised his head and approached her after a while did Marilyn look at Curtis with tears welling up in her eyes.
She didn’t say anything.
She didn’t do anything wrong.
She couldn’t understand why Jerome hated her so much.
At her about-to-cry appearance, Curtis gathered the shoes again and neatly placed them in front of Marilyn’s dress.
“I don’t think I can put them on for you. I’ll put them here, so please wear them.”
Compared to Jerome, Curtis was such a kind person.
Barely holding back her lips from pursing, Marilyn hesitantly moved her feet and put on her shoes with her feet covered in dirt inside her dress.
“Please don’t mind the Commander’s words. He’s just cold when he speaks.”
“……”
It wasn’t a matter of being cold, it was like he wanted to kill her altogether.
Not just her, but Aiden too.
“Shall we go?”
“Okay.”
She tried hard to straighten her head and followed Curtis.
Because the west stone tower was located in such a corner of the palace, Marilyn entered the main castle only after walking for a long time.
