What Your Majesty Desires - Chapter 2.1
Aiden wasn’t interested in whether the Dextin Empire made a state marriage alliance with the Gler Empire or not.
He just wanted Hernis to finish the engagement ceremony well and leave this castle safely. If that had happened, Marilyn’s abdication as princess would have proceeded without any problems, and he could have safely bid farewell to this damned Dextin Castle.
Aiden had been waiting for her abdication as much as Marilyn, or even more than Marilyn. That was why he had deliberately left his post today and gone all the way to the baron’s mansion.
As soon as Marilyn was dethroned, Aiden intended to take her to his territory and let her live in peace. She had been confined to the castle tower with her already weak body, living under the oppression of the empress and the threat of poisoning, so she deserved to live happily for the rest of her time. This time, the empress was adamant, and Aiden’s plan was perfect.
Everything was fine. He was just waiting for tomorrow.
But that bastard ruined everything. Even if the engagement was a little twisted, how could that senseless bastard blow up the castle of the neighboring emperor, who could have become his father-in-law, in half a day?
Emperor Rodri and Empress Deborah were now either dead or alive, and now there was no one left in this castle to dethrone Marilyn. How could he ruin things so innovatively? Aiden glared sharply at Hernis, the culprit of all this mess.
“It seems you are the prince from the Gler Empire. Doesn’t that place teach princes the dignity of royalty? If the world knew how many knights were surrounding one woman…”
“Well.” You can count the numbers yourself. If the world finds out anything, it will be because Hernis has spared their lives. “You don’t seem to be of much use.”
“What, what did you say?”
“You seem to think you can do something here in the name of a great bodyguard?”
“…”
It was impossible to communicate. No, he was speechless. Aiden thought that if he scolded him with the dignity of royalty and the spirit of chivalry, he would flinch or get angry, but Hernis didn’t fall for Aiden’s provocation at all.
Rather, Aiden was biting his lip as if he had been stabbed with a dagger. Maybe he was right. There was nothing Aiden could do here. He was only able to enter this bathroom because he was lucky enough to take a hostage and push his way in.
Even if he could fight to the death against one or two more people, there were only six men in the bathroom. Even if he somehow managed to defeat all six of these men, there were more knights to face outside. Moreover, the members of Prince Hernis’s personal guard were all famous knights from noble families. “…”
It was painful, but he had to admit it. He couldn’t beat them with strength. Inevitably, Aiden suppressed his emotions and spoke as rationally as possible. “The princess was originally scheduled to be dethroned tomorrow or the day after.” Aiden revealed it as if he were spitting out a great secret, and waited a little longer to give them time to think. But. “…” Their expressions were just, ‘So what?’
“We don’t care who the owner of Dextin changes to.” So what? “If you just get out of the way, I’ll leave quietly.” Aiden blurted out more confidently, as if making an insignificant request. But the reaction was even colder. Jerome immediately sneered as if to say that all his roundabout words were just that, and the other knights standing beside him stared at Aiden without batting an eye.
They were all annoying. “If you don’t want to, you don’t have to leave?”
The most annoying one was still Hernis. He was the one who ruined everything, so if he had a conscience, he should let their princess go.
No matter how much Aiden looked into Hernis’s eyes and told him the legitimate reason, his expression seemed to be more interested, so it didn’t seem easy at all. He was a thug who started killing on the battlefield for fun since he was seven years old, so maybe it was an absurd idea to expect him to let them go willingly.
“Just, just get out of the way. Even if you let us go, it won’t do you any harm…”
“You can’t harm anything anyway.” So why are you asking us to get out of the way as if you’re doing us a favor? Can’t you do math? Or were you just born shameless? Hernis looked at Aiden with contempt, as if he were looking at a much lower-class human being. “You won’t get out of the way?”
If it came to this, Aiden couldn’t help it. “Princess, take my hand.” He had no choice but to fight to the death. Aiden watched Hernis’s eyes and carefully reached his hand behind his back. “You must stay close behind me.”
“Aiden, I think we can talk…”
“Quickly.” If there was even a slight gap, they would be caught immediately. Aiden, who had become impatient, turned his body around and grabbed Marilyn’s hand, which was wrapped in a bath towel.
“Oh, uh?” Marilyn also hurriedly hid behind Aiden’s back.
It was because he had to properly close the cloth that was about to open, but at first glance, it looked as if Marilyn was hiding behind her lover’s back.
At that sight, Jerome smirked as if he had seen a funny scene. If she was going there because it was a safe zone, she was a woman who was severely ignorant of the situation. No, judging from the fact that she was trembling more now than before, it seemed that she had some sense.
“Your Highness.” What should we do? Jerome erased the smile from his face and bowed deeply to Hernis. Hernis, who had been staring silently at Aiden and Marilyn hiding behind him, soon took his eyes off them and stepped back without a word. It was like a signal.
To take care of it. As soon as the superior’s final approval was given, Jerome came forward as if he had been waiting for it. It was a long tradition of the Gler Empire to show mercy when starting a battle.
“I’ll spare your life, so just go.” Of course, mercy was only for one person.
“Leave the princess there.” Before Jerome could finish speaking, Aiden drew his sword without hesitation.
Jerome wasn’t surprised at all, as if it was a fully expected action.
“You’re just wasting my precious time.” He only frowned slightly at the troublesome situation. He seemed willing to die to protect the woman, but no one was moved by the tearful sight.
“Aiden, please…!” Even Marilyn.
Unable to overcome the chilling air, Marilyn staggered and collapsed to the floor, and Aiden couldn’t even catch her properly.
“Princess, my hand… Ugh!”
It was already too much for him to block the knights rushing at him. Hernis let out a burst of laughter between his teeth as he watched Aiden. To think that someone like that would appear as her lover and be acting like that.
He hadn’t given any specific orders, but the knights effectively lured Aiden towards the door by pretending to attack him from the front.
Naturally, the knights on the side stood comfortably for a while, watching the fire across the river, and easily took Marilyn into their possession by simply taking a step towards her, who was left alone.
“Oh, don’t come.” Marilyn, who was terrified, stepped back.
All they had to do was grab her and lift her up, but the knights hesitated for a moment at her appearance.
“Commander?”
What? Why? Jerome frowned at the sight of his men hesitating when there was nothing to hesitate about. It didn’t matter at all whether the woman’s bath towel fell to the floor or not.
They had to grab the woman and throw her in front of Jerome right away, but the knights couldn’t bring themselves to touch Marilyn’s body, which was trembling like an aspen tree, holding the bath towel tightly.
How could they explain this strange feeling to the commander, that she seemed too weak to be treated carelessly?
Clang! At that moment, Aiden’s long sword flew and fell next to Marilyn. Aiden, who had been fighting with all his might, couldn’t overcome the opponent’s strength and lost his sword. He had managed to hold out for a few tens of seconds against the prince’s guards, so that point could be highly praised.
But that didn’t mean.
“Ugh!” He wasn’t going to spare his life.
As Aiden, who had lost his strength, lost his balance and fell forward, Curtis, who was standing behind him, didn’t miss the opportunity and slammed Aiden’s neck with his knee.
Unable to overcome the force, Aiden’s face was dragged across the stone floor of the bathroom.
Regardless, Curtis, who had leisurely positioned himself so that his knee wouldn’t touch the blood, raised his arms holding the long sword with all his might. All he had to do was plunge it into Aiden’s back.
“I’ll go!” It was Marilyn’s slender cry that stopped Curtis.
It was hard to believe that it was said by her, who had been sitting on the floor and trembling until just now. The woman was still trembling, but she spoke in a clear and distinct tone.
“I’ll go to the execution ground tomorrow, and I’ll do everything you tell me to.
Don’t kill him.
” Marilyn, who had risen to her feet precariously as if she was about to collapse, swallowed her tears and approached Curtis.
And she held out her slender wrist from outside the bath towel. Curtis stared blankly at her anxious face as she cautiously grabbed Curtis’s arm holding the long sword with the tips of two fingers.
“You said earlier that he could go. So let him go. You said you only needed me.”
Her eyes were full of tears.
“Please. Please don’t kill him.”
“…” Originally, people were desperate in the face of death. That was always the case, and it wasn’t the first or second time he had experienced it, but for some reason, it seemed that this fragile woman wouldn’t be able to accept that cold fact. Unable to shake off Marilyn’s hand harshly, Curtis turned his head with a troubled face.
This time, it was Hernis, not Jerome, who had to ask for permission.
“Your Highness?” Oh, what should I do?
It wasn’t that he couldn’t kill this arrogant knight from the enemy country, it wasn’t that he necessarily wanted to grant this woman’s request, it was just that he was asking the decision-maker’s opinion one more time before doing anything. Following Curtis’s gaze, Marilyn also quickly turned her head.
“Um, excuse me.” Marilyn called him as if pleading. She hoped he would tell them to stop.
He seemed to be a pretty kind person earlier, but now he was staring silently at Marilyn’s eyes with a seamless and ruthless face. With a desperate heart, Marilyn walked precariously towards Hernis.
“Um, this child is…”
“He is Hernis, the Second Prince of the Glare Empire. Address him properly.”
“Yes, yes. Prince Hernis.”
At Jerome’s rebuke, Marilyn quickly nodded and indicated that she understood.
And she looked at him with trembling lips. From the first time she saw him, she thought that he had an extraordinary origin with an overflowing noble atmosphere, but this person was that prince.
Hernis van Arkanswein, who was supposed to have an engagement ceremony with Princess Thalia today. She didn’t know how much and how things had gone wrong, so that he, who should have been receiving state guest treatment from Emperor Rodri, was here with armed knights, but now was not the time to ask about the circumstances.
“Your Highness, this person is my bodyguard…”
