What to Do if You Transmigrate Into the Body of the Number One Scumbag? - Chapter 6
Gu Shiyan gave a brief nod. “Mhm,” he responded, acknowledging him.
Gu Yuxuan had not expected his brother to show him such a kind face today, let alone actually reply. Previously, whenever he had acted like a clingy little tail following behind him, his brother wouldn’t even spare him a glance. Now, not only did Gu Shiyan respond, but the look of disdain and impatience was gone, replaced by a gentle warmth. For the first time, he felt his brother was truly a kind person.
Unable to contain himself, he threw caution to the wind and lunged into his brother’s arms. The sudden movement caught them both off guard. Master Gu was startled and nearly pulled out the family disciplinary rod to intervene, thinking the fool was launching an attack.
He loved both of his sons dearly; it was only because the eldest had been such a scoundrel that he felt forced to keep them apart to prevent the ruin of both. Now, seeing them interacting harmoniously; a respectful elder brother and an affectionate younger one. He finally let out a sigh of relief and allowed his heart to settle.
“Brother!” Gu Yuxuan began to wail again.
Gu Shiyan pressed a hand to his forehead. He hadn’t expected that after becoming biological brothers, the boy would be even more difficult to deal with; at least in his real world, his brother had been somewhat steady. Gu Shiyan struggled to keep his footing; even though he was taller than Gu Yuxuan, he was no match for the boy’s sheer, clumsy strength. Anyone else would have been knocked flat.
“Alright, that’s enough. You’re supposed to be a working professional now. Stand up straight.”
Gu Yuxuan immediately snapped to attention. “Brother! Can I work by your side? I promise I’ll work hard!”
“We’ll discuss that later,” Gu Shiyan said solemnly, his tone disapproving. “No matter where you are, you must work hard.”
Gu Yuxuan mirrored his serious expression, looking both earnest and comical. “Mhm, I will!”
With their business concluded, Master Gu found them too noisy and waved them off, telling them to find somewhere else to talk so he could have some peace in his study.
Gu Shiyan gave Gu Yuxuan a look that told him to shut up. After bidding his father farewell, he left the study with Gu Yuxuan trailing behind him like a shadow until they reached the main hall.
Gu Yuxuan’s chatter was endless. Gu Shiyan was reaching the end of his tether and was just about to tell him to be quiet when a voice called out.
“Husband, you’re back?!”
Gu Shiyan looked up to see Luo Mu running joyfully toward him. Beside him, Gu Yuxuan froze for a moment before saying, “Oh? Is this my little sister-in-law?”
Gu Shiyan ignored him, offering only a faint “Mhm” as his gaze remained fixed on the boy running toward them.
The youth was holding something in his hands. As he drew closer, Gu Shiyan realized it was a porcelain plate. He immediately frowned and took it from him. “Be careful. How can you be so reckless while carrying something? What if you cut your hand?”
Despite being scolded the moment they met, the youth didn’t mind. Instead, his eyes curved into crescents as he peeked at the man. “I held it very steadily, it wouldn’t have fallen. Husband, is this your brother? Mom just asked me to find you.”
“Mhm. Why was she looking for me?”
Luo Mu pointed at the plate and said with a smile, “To bring you some fruit to eat.”
“Mom also said it’s almost lunchtime, and she wanted me to call you for dinner.”
“Alright.”
“Are we going over now?”
“Mhm.”
Gu Shiyan moved to reveal the person behind him, introducing him to Luo Mu. “This is my younger brother, Gu Yuxuan. You can just call him by his name, like I do.”
Gu Yuxuan smiled and extended a hand. “Hello there, little sister-in-law!”
“Um… Yuxuan. Hello, Yuxuan.”
Gu Shiyan watched their joined hands, and his brow twitched instinctively. He reached out and inconspicuously interrupted the handshake. After a moment’s thought, he looked at Luo Mu again.
“On second thought, just call him ‘Brother’ instead.”
Having said that, he grabbed the boy’s hand and led him toward the living room. Luo Mu stared blankly at his wrist where the man’s hand was wrapped. Gu Shiyan’s palm was truly large, easily encircling his entire wrist. The warmth from that palm seeped into his skin, causing the tips of his ears to turn red and the curve of his smile to grow wider.
Left behind without warning, Gu Yuxuan was dazed for a moment before sprinting after them. “Brother! Little sister-in-law! Wait for me!”
An elegantly maintained lady was sitting on the sofa in the living room. When the group arrived, she looked over at the sound of their voices. Gu Shiyan met her gentle gaze and guessed that this was his mother.
“Shiyan, Mu-mu, come and sit,” Mother Gu waved to them, smiling brightly. “Lunch is almost ready, we were just waiting for you.”
Mother Gu’s smile was incredibly kind. Even though it was Gu Shiyan’s first time meeting her, he felt the distance between them close instantly.
Gu Shiyan approached and, after a brief internal struggle, spoke. “Mom.”
“Oh, come sit. Mu-mu, you come sit over here by Mom too…”
Gu Yuxuan caught up then, asking bluntly, “Mom! Then where do I sit?”
Mother Gu was startled by her younger son’s booming voice and patted her chest. “Goodness, Yuxuan. How many times have I told you? You’re a grown man now, stop being so boisterous. There are plenty of seats. Here, go sit across from me.”
Gu Yuxuan had only asked in passing. Hearing the answer, he gave a quick “Oh” and headed for his seat. Luo Mu watched them and suddenly found the courage to speak up.
“Mom, I’ll just sit in the seat next to my husband. Let Brother sit here instead.”
With that, he stood up and moved to the chair beside Gu Shiyan. Mother Gu gave a soft laugh. “This child… still being so polite with me. Fine then, I won’t force you. Yuxuan, do you want to sit here?”
Gu Yuxuan didn’t really care either way, but since his mother called him, he trotted over happily.
Once he was beside Gu Shiyan, Luo Mu quietly nudged himself closer to the man. He assumed Gu Shiyan wouldn’t notice, but Gu Shiyan had caught the movement out of the corner of his eye long ago. He simply indulged the boy without a word, silently observing his actions. Seeing that the youth was secretly happy just by being close to him, Gu Shiyan felt his heart soften and give way.
While Mother Gu was chatting with her two sons, Luo Mu was busy staring at the man—at his profile, his ears, and his neck.
“Shiyan, Mu-mu is such a wonderful child. Even if you didn’t have feelings for him before, now that you’re married, you must treat him well.”
“You weren’t in the living room earlier, so you didn’t hear us talking. This child’s heart is entirely devoted to you; he spent the whole time making excuses for you. You have to cherish someone this good, do you hear me?”
Had this nagging happened before, the original owner would have likely grown impatient and walked out. But now, Gu Shiyan listened attentively, nodding in response from time to time. His behavior made Mother Gu feel she couldn’t bring herself to say much more.
Luo Mu hadn’t expected the conversation to turn to him. Seeing that the man remained silent and unable to read his expression, he grew anxious and quickly tried to explain on Gu Shiyan’s behalf.
“Mom, my husband is very good to me. Please… don’t blame him…”
“Oh, look at our Mu-mu protecting his own. Shiyan is a grown man, you shouldn’t pamper him too much, you know…”
Luo Mu blushed and lowered his head at the teasing, only daring to steal a glance at the man. Gu Shiyan looked back and met the boy’s gaze. His calm heart felt a sudden ripple. He curved his lips into a smile and looked at his mother.
“I know, Mom.”
