What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 5
Cha Yuxuan strode away briskly. It was her first day of registration, and she had many things to attend to. If she didn’t handle them now, she might not even have a place to sleep that night.
Yan Qingran waited until Cha Yuxuan was completely out of sight before opening her phone. She added her as a contact, then switched to her WeChat account and sent a friend request.
Cha Yuxuan’s WeChat name was a mathematical expression: cos30°. Yan Qingran couldn’t decipher its meaning.
Her profile picture was a feisty-looking kitten, claws bared adorably fierce, much like her.
After staring at it for a while, Yan Qingran set her phone down and began tapping the table with her fingertips.
A crisp ding sounded. She glanced at her phone screen: “I’ve accepted your friend request. Now we can start chatting.”
Yan Qingran didn’t have many friends on this account, and she had muted notifications for public accounts and subscriptions. Essentially, every message alert meant something important.
Cha Yuxuan didn’t send any more messages and Yan Qingran didn’t initiate a conversation either.
The afternoon passed quickly. The lingering glow of the sunset painted the sky with beautiful fiery clouds.
The slanting rays of the sun pierced through the clouds, spilling onto the ground and slipping past the tent’s cover to drape softly over Yan Qingran, cloaking her in a golden glow.
It was already 6:30 p.m.
Yi Hui had gone to eat first. When she returned, she picked up the registration booklet and checked it, more than ten people still hadn’t arrived. “Yan Qingran, you can head back and rest now. Go eat early. There aren’t many people left; I can handle the rest alone.”
“Okay.”
Yan Qingran tidied up the table briefly, slipped her phone into her pocket, stood up, and pushed her chair back. “I’ll get going then.”
Yi Hui waved. “Bye, take care on your way.”
“Okay. Bye.”
She hadn’t been walking long when her WeChat chimed. It was a message from Cha Yuxuan.
【Have you eaten dinner yet? (Let me see)】
Yan Qingran stopped walking, standing under a streetlamp as she replied, “No.”
The response came quickly. “Want to eat together?”
Two more messages followed in quick succession. “Just at our cafeteria.”
【We’ll have to trouble you, senior, to recommend some tasty dishes in the cafeteria.】
Yan Qingran was quick to pick up on keywords. “We?”
Cha Yuxuan: “Me and my three roommates.”
【Is that okay? (Cute cat emoji)】
Yan Qingran thought for a moment. “Sure.”
【Where are you? I’ll come find you.】
Cha Yuxuan: “Yay! (Cute emoticon)”
【(Smirking boy “nice” sticker)】
【Initiated location sharing】
Yan Qingran scrolled through her own sticker collection but couldn’t find anything suitable. Glancing at the chat interface, she decided not to reply and directly tapped into the location sharing.
Halfway there, it suddenly occurred to her: she could have just gone home, had a simple dinner, read for a bit, and gone to bed early, like she usually did.
So why had she agreed to eat with her?
Yan Qingran stared at the two little red dots gradually converging on her phone screen. She couldn’t explain it somehow, she’d just agreed.
Well, it’s not like she had anything else to do. Taking her juniors out for a meal should be pretty normal, right? she thought.
But what if it hadn’t been Cha Yuxuan who invited her?
Yan Qingran was stumped by the thought that popped into her head.
Maybe it’s just because she’s good-looking, Yan Qingran reasoned. Everyone appreciates beauty, and her inclination to dine with someone attractive must stem from that same instinct.
Clang! A crisp sound echoed through the air.
Yan Qingran had just bumped into a lamppost, and the chaotic thoughts in her mind seemed to have been wiped clean, as if someone had pressed the undo button.
Staggering slightly, dizzy and disoriented, she immediately steadied herself by holding onto the lamppost.
Initially, her presence on the street had only drawn the attention of those captivated by her looks, but after this collision, even the phone-obsessed pedestrians glanced her way.
It had been a long time since Yan Qingran had felt so embarrassed. She had merely lost focus for a moment, failing to watch where she was going, and ended up colliding with a lamppost.
How absurd?
Her forehead didn’t hurt, but her head spun dizzily. In her daze, she thought she saw a classmate approaching to help.
That wouldn’t do, this was far too humiliating.
Yan Qingran shook her head, pressed her lips into a firm line, and strode forward with purpose.
She had no idea how far she had walked or how many turns she had taken. By the time the dizziness subsided, she lifted her head and spotted Cha Yuxuan and her group ahead.
By sheer luck, the path she had taken blindly turned out to be the right one.
Cha Yuxuan noticed her as well and flashed a bright smile. “Good evening, Senior!”
Yan Qingran glanced at her briefly. “Good evening.”
Cha Yuxuan had changed her clothes, her hair now cascading over her shoulders with slightly damp ends, as if she had just showered.
Cha Yuxuan proceeded to introduce her roommates one by one.
“This is Jiang Xiaoping,” she said, pointing to a petite girl who, though not overweight, had soft, rounded cheeks and a lingering baby face. Her smile was undeniably cute.
“Yan Na.”
“Bai Hang.”
The other two were of average height, around 165 cm, with fairly common looks.
Cha Yuxuan stood out as the only one in her dorm with both striking looks and height, giving off an air of standing head and shoulders above the rest.
Yan Qingran smiled warmly, doing her best not to make them feel pressured. “Hello, I’m Yan Qingran.”
Truthfully, she was a bit puzzled. After seeing Cha Yuxuan’s roommates, she couldn’t help but feel that the standards for this year’s batch of alpha freshmen weren’t particularly high.
Especially Jiang Xiaoping, who looked more like an Omega delicate and fragile.
Logically, when ordinary people differentiate into alphas, it stimulates a second growth spurt. Female alphas typically grow to around 170 cm. Someone like Cha Yuxuan fit the norm, but as for the others. Yan Qingran wondered if they might have suffered from malnutrition.
The sky was gradually darkening, and the streetlights had flickered on. Dappled shadows of trees swayed rhythmically on the ground with the gentle breeze, while layers of clouds took on a dusky hue.
Yan Qingran decided to take them to the Z Cafeteria.
Q University covered a vast area with numerous dining halls, but the Z Cafeteria was particularly famous. It offered a wide variety of dishes at reasonable prices, catering to tastes from all over the country. Its large scale allowed it to accommodate tens of thousands of students at once, making it a popular choice among the student body.
Walking alongside a group of youngsters in ripped jeans, Yan Qingran suddenly felt her own attire was rather old-fashioned her unchanging white shirt and trousers made her seem as rigid as a pedantic scholar from the 1960s.
Cha Yuxuan, on the other hand, wore a pink hoodie paired with light-colored ripped jeans and white sneakers, radiating youthful energy.
Tilting her head, Cha Yuxuan initiated a conversation. “Senior, could you tell us a bit about the school clubs and student organizations?”
The address of “senior” from Cha Yuxuan made Yan Qingran acutely aware once again of the age gap between herself and these freshmen, a junior and a freshman, a full two years apart.
She glanced down at Cha Yuxuan, her narrow eyes slightly narrowing at the corners. “There are many clubs, covering all sorts of interests. It’s hard to list them all at once. In October, the university organizes a ‘Hundred Clubs Battle’ right where you registered. Each club sets up a tent, so you can go check them out and get a feel for them then.”
“The ‘Hundred Clubs Battle’? I’ve heard so much about it! I’m really looking forward to it.”
Cha Yuxuan was actually quite nervous. She didn’t dare meet Yan Qingran’s gaze directly because those eyes bright, sharp, yet tinged with a hint of laziness were both deep and luminous.
In short, just like the rest of her features, they were a paradoxical yet harmonious blend, so intriguing that Cha Yuxuan felt an urge to take them apart and reassemble them herself.
Jiang Xiaoping, listening attentively nearby, couldn’t help chiming in, “What about the student union and such?”
Yan Qingran patiently explained, “The student union is divided into university-level and college-level branches. Their departments and roles are roughly the same, just differing in scope. For example, today during orientation, the welcoming teams you saw at the train station and airport were mainly university-level student union members. Those you encountered at the registration area, dorms, and around campus were mostly from the college-level branch.”
Her voice carried a mature, soothing tone, with precise Mandarin tinged with a slight Jingzhou accent and retroflex endings, making it very pleasant to the ear.
Cha Yuxuan listened carefully while stealing glances. Every time she looked over, she found herself captivated by the elegant curve of Yan Qingran’s jawline.
She was utterly enchanted by Yan Qingran’s looks, how could someone so perfectly align with her exacting aesthetic preferences?
Jiang Xiaoping nodded. “Oh, so that means you’re part of the college-level student union, right, senior?”
“Mm.”
Yan Qingran responded while casting a sidelong glance at Cha Yuxuan.
Was she spacing out?
Bai Hang waited a moment but heard nothing further. She couldn’t resist looking at Yan Qingran.
As expected of her idol, low-key yet impressive. Bai Hang had already heard of Yan Qingran’s reputation on Douban and knew she was the student union president this year.
Yan Qingran’s gaze swept over the other two silent figures, and she chuckled lightly. “No need to be so reserved. I’m not going to eat you.”
In a way, she did come across as somewhat unapproachable, but personality-wise, Yan Qingran wasn’t the aloof type.
Yan Na waved her forearm playfully. “Haha, with my tough skin, I’m not worried you’d even be able to chew me!”
She wasn’t introverted by nature she just hadn’t found the right moment to jump into the conversation earlier.
Yan Qingran was amused, her steps lightening noticeably, as if even the nearby trees swayed gently in rhythm with her pace.
Hearing the word “eat,” Cha Yuxuan immediately perked up. “So, what are we going to eat later? Any local specialties you’d recommend, senior?”
Yan Qingran thought for a moment. “There are plenty of delicious dishes at Cafeteria Z. Where are you all from?”
She had previously collaborated with students from other departments on a project about cafeteria food flavors, so she was quite knowledgeable in this area.
Cha Yuxuan replied, “I’m from Shencheng.”
Yan Qingran’s gaze held a hint of playful curiosity. Coming from out of town for university, she actually dared to go to a bar alone.
Jiang Xiaoping instinctively raised her hand. “Reporting in, I’m a local.”
Yan Qingran mimicked the gesture. “Noted. I can tell, we share the same accent.”
Everyone laughed, with Cha Yuxuan beaming the brightest. She hadn’t expected Yan Qingran to have such a lively side.
Yan Na paused briefly before speaking. “I’m from Yuncheng.”
Yuncheng, located in the southwestern plateau region of the country, is famously known as the “Spring City,” though the UV radiation there is quite strong, no wonder her complexion leaned toward a wheatish tone.
Bai Hang followed up, “I’m from the neighboring Jingang.”
Yan Qingran nodded, already forming a plan in her mind. “Local dishes are available at the first-floor window there are plenty. The ones most popular with out-of-towners are roast duck, fried liver, and fried gezhi. Shencheng specialties are mostly breakfast items and snacks, like pan-fried buns and three-delicacy wontons. You can find them at the first-floor window in the morning, and they’re quite tasty. If you want to try dishes like white-cut chicken, pork chop with rice cakes, or sizzling oil eel paste, you’ll need to go to the second-floor à la carte window.”
“Wow!”
Cha Yuxuan was genuinely surprised. She never imagined Yan Qingran could list so many dishes, and all authentic Shencheng specialties. She had initially assumed Yan Qingran was the type detached from worldly matters this completely overturned her perception.
All four of them gave Yan Qingran a thumbs-up in unison. “Impressive.”
Yan Qingran’s ears turned slightly red as she avoided their gazes, feeling a bit embarrassed by the praise. “Not at all, I just happened to know a little and thought I’d recommend them.”
Yan Na blinked eagerly. “What about me, then? Are there any Yuncheng dishes at the school?”
“There are, but not many.” Yan Qingran paused. “Fried potatoes, stone pot bibimbap, and stuffed tofu. However, the dishes here probably don’t include fish mint, which might be a bit disappointing for you.” No Houttuynia cordata. “..” Yan Na looked slightly let down but quickly perked up again. “That’s fine too fried potatoes are forever the best!”
Cha Yuxuan frowned in confusion. “What’s zhe’ergen?””
Bai Hang shared the same puzzled expression.
Yan Na was taken aback. “You don’t know what ‘Zhe Er Gen’ is?”!”
Cha Yuxuan nodded honestly. “Yeah, what is it?”
Yan Na tilted her head in disbelief, gesturing with her hands. “Zhe’er gen is a type of side dish long, white, slightly yellow, segmented.””
“Oh!”
Cha Yuxuan seemed to grasp it vaguely. “So, what does it taste like?”
Yan Na thought for a moment, also furrowing her brows. “Well, it’s delicious.”
Yan Qingran stepped in to explain. “Zhe’er gen is a vegetable produced in their region.” Its role in food is similar to what we call cilantro here those who like it absolutely love it, while those who don’t can’t stand it.”
Yan Na nodded vigorously like a pecking chick. “Yes, yes, exactly.”
Now Cha Yuxuan truly understood, and she couldn’t help but admire Yan Qingran for knowing so much.
The five of them walked side by side along the campus path, chatting and laughing lightly. Stepping on the dappled shadows of the trees under the warm glow of the streetlights, they gradually blended into the picturesque nightscape of Q University.
