What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 3
Yan Qingran didn’t rest on the accompanying bed in the ward, choosing instead to sleep leaning against the bench.
She had initially intended to go straight home, but the nurse insisted on giving her a pillow and earnestly explained a long list of precautions. “An Omega in heat really needs someone by their side. He’ll be so happy to see you here when he wakes up. I really envy you two.”
Huh? What’s there to envy?
It’s just an unwanted Omega and an Alpha who happened to pass by.
Yan Qingran rubbed her throbbing temples. Whatever, going home would be tiring with all the back and forth. It was almost 1 a.m., and she had to be at school by 7 a.m. anyway. Might as well catch a quick nap here.
Most hospital benches were a bit wobbly, creaking with every move. She tried several positions but couldn’t get comfortable. With her long limbs, there was nowhere to place them properly. She drifted in and out of sleep until the deep of the night, managing only two or three hours of rest.
By 5 a.m., the sky was faintly lit, and the air was unusually fresh for a moment.
Yan Qingran pushed herself up, her forearm numb from being pressed against. Several red marks dotted her fair elbows, and faint dark circles shadowed her eyes.
As expected, she hadn’t slept well. She let out a long sigh, stood up, and stretched, her joints cracking in a series of pops.
First, she’d settle the hospitalization fees, then buy some food for Zhuang Wei, head home to wash up, change clothes, and go to school.
While stretching, she had already mapped out her tasks for the morning.
The breakfast shop offered a wide variety, and the owner was very enthusiastic. Yan Qingran had no idea what Zhuang Wei liked to eat, she’d never paid attention so she randomly picked a few light options and brought along some fruits and snacks.
Just as she returned, she ran into the nurse doing rounds. Coincidentally, it was the same one from last night. Yan Qingran smiled politely and placed the items on the bedside table.
As the nurse checked Zhuang Wei’s heart rate and other vitals, she asked, “Do you have to leave soon?”
Yan Qingran had a feeling the nurse had misunderstood something. “Yes.”
“Make time to accompany him more often and tell him to cut back on drinking.”
“Understood.”
Yan Qingran didn’t bother explaining it was too complicated anyway. After all, Zhuang Wei was her fiancé.
She thought back, the engagement had been decided last year. Her grandfather thought it was a good match, and the elders all felt they were well-suited, so she had no objections. For some reason, Zhuang Wei had agreed too, and just like that, they became engaged.
After the engagement, not much changed between the two of them, but their families grew closer.
Yan Qingran didn’t really mind. At least it saved her a lot of trouble like persistent suitors at school or the weekly blind dates her grandfather used to arrange.
She and Zhuang Wei had known each other for years, since they were kids, but they were merely acquaintances far from childhood sweethearts.
Zhuang Wei was two years younger than her, currently in college at Z University next door, majoring in law. Not bad.
Even though she hadn’t slept much last night, Yan Qingran felt quite alert. She went home, took a shower, and changed into her standard white shirt and black trousers, rolling the sleeves up to her forearms. She applied light makeup and arrived at Q University’s gate at five to seven, where a few freshmen had already gathered.
Q University is a top-tier institution in the country, with countless students vying to get in. However, the number of new students admitted each year is strictly controlled, so every individual who makes it to Q University is carefully selected, and every graduate takes immense pride in this achievement.
The tents for each department’s freshman registration were already set up. Yan Qingran knew that the counselor for their department’s incoming freshmen was a male beta named Yi Hui, who was two years her senior. Having stayed at the university for graduate studies, he had taken on the role of freshman counselor as well.
Yan Qingran walked past the rows of tents. Their School of Architecture was positioned roughly in the center, with four consecutive tents representing the Department of Architecture, Department of Urban Planning, Department of Architectural Technology and Science, and Department of Landscape Architecture.
“Yan Qingran.” Yi Hui spotted her immediately. “Perfect timing. Help us hang this banner.”
He was standing in front of the tent with three other counselors, holding a red printed banner and discussing how to position it.
The other three counselors were all relatively short women. He had been about to fetch a small stool when, fortunately, Yan Qingran arrived early.
Yan Qingran quickly strode over. “Sure.”
“Here, take this side. Tie it tightly to the tent’s support pole with the rope.”
Yi Hui was a straightforward person who wasted no time on unnecessary words. He immediately assigned tasks and casually asked, “Have you had breakfast?”
Yan Qingran took one end of the banner and helped Yi Hui unfurl it. “Yes, I have.”
Earlier, at the hospital, she hadn’t washed up and skipped breakfast, but she had bought a bag of bread and milk on her way to school and made do with that.
“Then, if you don’t mind helping out for a bit, I’ll have someone buy snacks and drinks later.”
“No problem, it’s no trouble at all.”
Yan Qingran smiled at him and lifted the banner overhead.
Yi Hui caught sight of her smile and was momentarily stunned, almost unable to look away.
“Good morning, seniors.”
In that moment of distraction, the vice president, Su Meng, also arrived. She greeted the counselors first and then nodded to Yan Qingran.
Su Meng was from the Department of Landscape Architecture petite, an Omega, with a sweet and charming appearance. Today, she was dressed in a preppy-style JK uniform, which suited her perfectly.
Logically, an Omega like her shouldn’t lack company, but she was still single.
Yi Hui nodded. “Good morning, Su Meng. Could you check the height on both sides of the banner to make sure it’s not crooked?”
“Sure.”
After a brief exchange of greetings, everyone quickly got to work.
Yan Qingran aligned the edge of the banner with the tent’s support frame, adjusted it to match the height on Yi Hui’s side, and then secured it firmly with rope.
Once their side of the banner was hung, another vice president arrived, along with several local student union members and Youth League committee officials who had come to help.
Sometimes, having too many people wasn’t an advantage. The space around the department tents was relatively cramped, and with more people, it quickly became chaotic.
“Alright, everyone, gather around.”
Yi Hui had prepared in advance and enlisted a few students from the Physical Education School to help purchase several cases of water and drinks, as well as two boxes of breakfast bread.
Although Yan Qingran didn’t speak much, her presence was always striking not for any other reason but her striking, high-fashion face, beautiful like a blooming poppy, utterly captivating.
Su Meng had been watching her all along. Seeing the food, she already had an idea and quietly sidled up, tugging at her sleeve. “Ranran, have you had breakfast?”
Yan Qingran subtly shifted away. “Yes, what about you?”
Even her voice made Su Meng’s heart race.
The crowd was chattering noisily. Su Meng’s palms grew slightly sweaty as she stood on tiptoe to lean closer to her shoulder. “Not yet. Could you later.”
Yan Qingran stood perfectly straight, not even tilting her head.
At 155 cm tall, Su Meng struggled to communicate with Yan Qingran, who stood at 175 cm.
This silly girl, all height and no sense.
Su Meng bit her lower lip, about to speak, when Yan Qingran glanced down at her. “The advisor needs me. I have to go.”
Her eyes were calm, without a ripple of emotion.
Su Meng forced a smile. “It’s nothing. You should go.”
She knew all too well Yan Qingran was just too straight completely unmoved by any attempts to flirt. But she’d never heard of any other omega around Yan Qingran either, so she wasn’t going to give up.
Yan Qingran sorted the drinks, water, and bread, counted them, set aside a few bottles of water for the advisor, then raised her hand to address everyone. “Ladies first, omegas first. Those who haven’t eaten breakfast can take one bread roll for now. Just one each, if there are extras, we’ll distribute more later.”
Actually, most people had already eaten breakfast before coming, and plenty of water and drinks had been bought, so there would definitely be enough. The men and alphas stayed put, waiting for the women and omegas to go first.
Su Meng was the only female omega present. Without hesitation, she went straight to Yan Qingran to get water and a drink.
Yan Qingran offered a polite smile, casually picking up a bread roll from the box and handing it over. “Come back for more if it’s not enough.”
This was how she treated all teachers and classmates humble, polite, and knowing her boundaries.
Su Meng glanced at the bread packaging. It was her most hated flavor strawberry jam filling.
How many times had she mentioned it? She loved strawberries but couldn’t stand anything strawberry-flavored.
Yet Yan Qingran still paid her no mind.
Her eyes reddened slightly as she accepted the bread. Clutching it with both hands, she bowed her head and thanked her. “Thank you.”
The rising slanting sunlight fell on her, giving her a strangely melancholic, sunset-like aura.
Right beneath her feet was Yan Qingran’s slender shadow. Su Meng hugged her food and crouched beside this shadow, staring blankly at her own toes in a daze.
Meanwhile, the orange-red glow from the east had conquered most of the sky, dyeing the remaining clouds and blue expanse in a cheerful, vibrant hue.
Yan Qingran continued handing out items, equally polite and courteous to the students behind Su Meng. Even the curve of her smile seemed unchanged.
In the end, there were indeed plenty of leftovers. She called for anyone who needed more to help themselves. Some went, but Su Meng stayed where she was, not bothering to exchange for a different flavor.
Yi Hui took the opportunity to assign tasks.
Each department would leave one person to help with registration, while the rest would be sent out. Alphas and male betas were mainly assigned to the dormitory area to help carry luggage, and the remainder were responsible for greeting new students at the school gate and showing them around.
The advisors were biased those left at the tent were both capable and good-looking. Yan Qingran was one of them.
The tent area suddenly felt much emptier.
Having been bending and straightening up repeatedly while distributing items and standing for so long, Yan Qingran was tired.
She leaned back slightly against the wooden desk of the registration area, supporting herself with her palms. Beads of sweat trickled down her neck along the veins, pooling in the hollow of her collarbone.
The slightly open collar of her shirt seemed to tempt outsiders to explore the allure within.
Su Meng captured this moment with her camera.
Yi Hui handed her a bottle of water. “Take a seat and rest for a while.”
“Thank you.”
Yan Qingran sat down to Yi Hui’s right, at just the right distance neither too close nor too far.
August in Jingcheng was scorching hot. On August 14th, Q University was bustling with activity as new students and their parents crowded the campus, bidding reluctant farewells.
Between nine and ten in the morning was the peak time.
Yan Qingran’s task was simple handing out materials to incoming freshmen.
For her, any task that didn’t require interacting with strangers was relatively easy.
She had a mild case of face blindness, something she had never mentioned to anyone.
Yi Hui held the new student’s admission letter, stamped it, and glanced at the name and photo. “Chai Yufei, right?”
“Yes,” replied a fair-skinned, chubby boy who seemed rather shy.
“Did you bring your ID? Let me take a look.”
“Sure.”
“Sign in here, then go over to the senior to collect your materials.”
As soon as Yi Hui called out the name, Yan Qingran began searching for the corresponding document folder, which contained items like the school badge, campus card, and student handbook.
Chai Yufei packed his things back into his bag and struck up a conversation with Yan Qingran, grinning as dimples appeared on his cheeks. “Hey, senior, which department are you in?”
“Student Union.”
Yan Qingran handed him the materials and looked at him directly, her lips curving into the same practiced, polite smile. “If you’re interested, you can join our recruitment activities after the semester starts.”
“Okay!” Chai Yufei clutched his phone nervously, hesitating for a moment. “Then, senior, could I get your contact info?”
Yan Qingran looked up and stared at him, as if scrutinizing or contemplating. Chai Yufei felt his palms grow sweaty.
After a moment, she replied, “Sure.”
