- Chapter 7 - I Am the Noble Young Master, and This Is My Personal Manservant
“Was my wording improper? I apologize,” the System apologized promptly, but it added, “How will you know if you do not try? Of course, if you are unwilling, kissing and hugging can also grant Intimacy Points. However, the amount of Intimacy required to lift the restrictions will only increase. I am merely offering suggestions to solve your problem.”
“Absolutely impossible!” Su Feng’s breath hitched in his throat. “Stop joking. I am straight, and Morpheus is straight too.”
“If I actually did that, he would slap me to death,” Su Feng continued. “And there is no way I am having any deep communication with him!”
“I understand,” the System replied. Since he did not like Morpheus, he naturally would not want to bear his children. “Please use methods you find acceptable to gather sufficient Intimacy Points.”
The System’s proposal was earnest, as if it were an AI acting strictly according to its programming, offering advice to its host and providing alternatives when rejected. Su Feng frowned, momentarily lowering his guard. There was no point in arguing with an AI.
“Forget it for now,” he said. “Just do not say such strange things again!”
The discussion with the System ended there. However, the question of how to actually acquire Intimacy Points remained a genuine problem.
Su Feng turned his head to glance at Morpheus, who was following behind him. Morpheus appeared submissive, occasionally lifting his face to observe the surroundings. He was exceptionally tall and possessed such a beautiful face that he naturally drew everyone’s attention. Seeing him follow Su Feng like a personal manservant triggered a sense of danger among the veterans in the camp.
Who is this guy?
He looked shifty despite his beauty. With that height and build, he was practically a roadblock as a manservant. Following Master Su Feng so sneakily, something was definitely wrong.
The knights, who had been in the camp for over six months but had barely spoken a few words to Su Feng, felt a crisis of position. With the City Lord away, Su Feng was the highest-ranking person here. They had all set their sights on becoming his right-hand man. Seeing Morpheus standing there like a giant pillar, they felt a wave of professional jealousy toward this newcomer who seemed to have dropped out of thin air to suppress them.
Under this mood, the knights could not help but look toward the Butler, who appeared calm but was actually filled with internal doubt.
“Hey, ignore us if you want, but a newcomer arrives and you do not even give us a heads-up?” A knight named Brown stepped forward. Having recently arrived at the camp, he was hungry for promotion. With a dark expression, he asked, “Tell me, who is that guy?”
The Butler gave him a cold look. “Do not go looking for trouble.”
You are asking me who he is? I want to ask you! Where did this guy spring from? How strange.
Brown bit his lip, sensing that the situation was not simple. Even the Butler was covering for him? This newcomer must have a massive background!
In truth, the Butler’s heart was also pounding because he had spotted the tooth mark on Su Feng’s neck that had not yet faded.
There was no time to react further, as Su Feng walked up to them. “What has happened in the camp and Blackthorn City while I was away?”
“The knights remain loyal to you, Master Su Feng. Blackthorn City is at peace,” the Butler reported. He paused, his eyes drifting toward Su Feng, specifically toward his back. He was subtle about it, but Brown was much less controlled. His eyes were glued to Morpheus.
Su Feng noticed the Butler’s eyes were practically twitching. He remained silent for a moment before saying, “Old Nuo, you have been handling the camp’s affairs. Do not neglect your health under the daily strain. If there is something wrong with your eyes, you may consult a priest or a physician.”
“And you, Brown.” Su Feng lightly tapped the handle of the long whip at his waist. His pale, cold fingers showed faint veins under the skin. He reprimanded him coolly, “I recall your duty today was to patrol the camp. Standing here acting suspiciously, are you looking for a lecture?”
Brown shrunk back. Morpheus watched the scene, his brow arching slightly. From the moment he appeared, he knew everyone was secretly sizing him up, yet only this one man had the guts to step forward as the early bird.
The man before him was the center of this camp.
He appeared to be a genuine noble. Not only did he possess the strength of a Sword Master, but the knights and servants around him were mostly intermediate swordsmen or mages who had mastered sword-runes and magic-runes.
So, his name is Su Feng.
Morpheus lowered his eyes, calculating a way to escape. The situation seemed like a dead end, but as his gaze landed on Brown, a gentle smile touched his lips. In Brown’s eyes, however, that smile was a blatant provocation from a newcomer.
This guy might be a useful pawn.
The undercurrents were surging.
After Su Feng finished speaking, Brown bowed his head in apology. Su Feng huffed. “Then why aren’t you patrolling?”
“Master Su Feng, I was indeed about to go,” Brown said with a forced laugh, deciding to be blunt in a show of fearless bravado. “But I am also the instructor for new members of the knights. If a new member arrives, I naturally want to show him the way!”
Su Feng glanced at him, then at the silent Morpheus. He felt a sudden urge to rub his temples. Can I really not escape the force of the plot? Here it was: the once-a-day “Overpowered Protagonist gets provoked, challenged, and then delivers a face-slapping reversal” trope. Every male lead in every novel encounters a “cannon fodder” provocation. The classic lines usually include: “Who do you think you are?”, “Let’s fight!”, or “Stay away from Lady Vina!” The protagonist meets a provoking NPC, accepts the beginner quest, and then goes on a killing spree to crush the opponent, gaining 100 EXP and a new subordinate.
Or just adding +1 to his kill count.
In short, wherever a protagonist goes, people wait in line to have their faces slapped. In the original novel, Morpheus was taken in by Vina after arriving at the camp. Vina spent all her time with him, inciting the jealousy of a knight who secretly loved her. That knight would eventually force the low-level Morpheus into a duel.
Then, Morpheus would pin him to the ground and beat him.
Furthermore, the cannon fodder would hold a grudge and try to assassinate Morpheus later. Unfortunately for him, Morpheus had just acquired the Soul-Snatcher inheritance at that time and was desperate for a test subject. When the knight showed up, the protagonist was delighted to have a new lab rat.
The protagonist of The Supreme Lord was dark, cruel, and lacked any moral baseline. And the knight in the original story was precisely this man: Brown.
Su Feng’s gaze drifted to Brown. This was a knight in his own squad, his own subordinate. He sighed, his tone filled with helpless melancholy.
Do you really want to become Morpheus’s experiment that badly?
Brown shivered for no apparent reason. Then, he heard Su Feng say decisively, “No.”
“Master Su Feng,” Brown started, but Su Feng cut him off. “Besides, when did I ever say he was a new knight for the squad?”
Morpheus watched the development, a gentle smile fixed on his face, though his eyes remained detached, as if none of this concerned him.
“He is my personal manservant,” Su Feng stated. He turned back to Morpheus, his gaze meeting those purple eyes with an underlying pressure. “Right? My newly acquired servant.”
Morpheus narrowed his eyes, realizing Su Feng was reminding him of the master-servant contract and declaring the status gap between them. Deep down, he bared his predatory teeth, but on the surface, he only showed a gentle, helpless smile, as if he were at Su Feng’s mercy.
“Yes, Master Su Feng.”
He bowed his head. He watched the arrogant noble lift his chin, give a cold snort, and turn to the stunned Butler and Brown. “Now you know.”
“This, this,” Brown’s jaw practically hit the floor. He hesitated, his eyes darting between Su Feng and Morpheus. His professional jealousy vanished, replaced by a massive surge of gossip. When he saw the section of Su Feng’s neck with the tooth mark as the noble turned around, his only thought was: !!!
Su Feng looked at him suspiciously. Brown offered an awkward but polite smile, suddenly losing all interest in Morpheus. “Master, I am going on my patrol now.”
“Go then,” Su Feng said.
He watched Brown jog out of the camp and over to the knights’ quarters. Brown looked left and right, then whispered to his friend, “You do not need to worry about that guy anymore, and you do not need to worry about him seducing Lady Vina.”
“Why?” The friend was indignant. They had long admired Vina, and seeing this handsome newcomer made them furious. “If a guy like that shows up and Lady Vina takes an interest in him, then we…”
The friend stopped because he saw Brown’s meaningful smile. Brown shook his head. “That guy is just a pretty boy,” he sneered. “But what if he really is just a pretty boy?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, if he dares to get close to Lady Vina and gets caught, or if someone tells Master Su Feng, he will not have a single good day left,” Brown warned. “Just wait. I will keep an eye on him, but you do not need to bother with him.”
Brown recalled that face and added with disdain, “He is nothing more than a pretty boy living off someone else.”
Su Feng had never shown interest in women or men, so bringing a man back was a shock. It seemed his standards were just very high, to like that type. Was he not afraid of the trouble it would cause? With that height difference, it looked like a specific taste for exotic builds.
Su Feng frowned, unaware of Brown’s wild theories. He turned to the Butler, who took a deep breath, regained his composure, and showed total submission to Su Feng’s decision. “Congratulations, Young Master, on your new manservant.”
That sounded incredibly strange.
Su Feng felt he was overthinking it. “Is there anything else?”
“Yes,” the Butler stepped forward. “We have sent requests for help to White Oak City and Huangming City. Perhaps their guilds will offer assistance.”
“Also, the Temple priests will arrive in Blackthorn City soon to perform rituals for the residents.” The Butler looked at Su Feng with hidden concern. “What shall we do this time?”
“Let them in,” Su Feng said. “Actually, I quite welcome the arrival of the Temple.”
