- What Should I Do After Picking Up the "Dragon Proud Sky" Protagonist as a Pet? (Transmigration)
- Chapter 20 - Cecilia’s Entrance
Su Feng watched helplessly as the Commander fled in a frantic panic. With a flash of his silhouette, the man crossed through the void. How fast was a powerhouse of the Legendary Realm? In the blink of an eye, he had already vanished from Blackthorn City. Su Feng looked down at the object in his hand; it was the treasure box the Commander had thrust upon him before departing. The man had fled with extreme speed, yet he had not forgotten to leave Su Feng a token.
He was like an elder during the New Year who, fearing a junior might decline a gift, stuffs a red envelope into their pocket and disappears like a startled rabbit. Su Feng opened the box and saw a flash of crimson light, as if flames were rising from within.
An exquisite, magnificent brooch lay nestled in the silk. The flowing light across its surface resembled the sulfurous fire of erupting magma, save for a single gemstone of deep, sparkling cobalt blue. Su Feng sensed the Commander’s aura from the brooch. He closed the box suspiciously, his brow furrowing.
“Tokens like this are only given to very close children or disciples,” Su Feng murmured to himself. “Why would he give this to me?”
Murphy watched this scene and suddenly smiled. “He cares about you a great deal,” the man said.
Murphy gazed into Su Feng’s beautiful cobalt eyes, which looked like a reflected galaxy. He only now noticed that the corners of Su Feng’s eyes tilted upward slightly, naturally creating a hint of sharpness. Yet, those eyes were bright, translucent, and clean. Murphy liked clean things. He thought that such eyes suited Su Feng perfectly.
He felt an impulse to touch those eyes. The man suddenly realized that with the Commander gone, it meant no one could restrain him anymore.
However, Murphy quickly regained his composure. The departure of the stallion that threatened him only signified one thing: a presence even more powerful than the Commander had made its arrival. In the law of the jungle, everything was simple. Only a more powerful beast can drive away a predator.
As Murphy expected, before Su Feng could even put away the token, an overwhelmingly dominant aura descended upon the area faster than any voice. A man appeared abruptly before Su Feng, draped in silver robes with long hair reaching his ankles. Jewels were embedded in his hair, clinking like jade hitting pearls as he moved. Or rather, he had been standing there all along, but only now did Su Feng and Murphy perceive his presence.
Su Feng’s father, the City Lord of Blackthorn City, Cecilia, stood before them. He was exceptionally tall, and the jewels adorning him glittered brilliantly, yet they could not overshadow his stunningly beautiful features. Cecilia’s green eyes looked straight ahead, but not at Su Feng. They were fixed on Murphy.
Murphy’s heart skipped a beat.
An unprecedented, indescribable danger pointed at him like a sword. There was no warning, no reason, and no need for explanation. Cecilia looked down at him. Murphy did not know who this person was, but the moment he saw Cecilia, only one thought appeared in his mind: death.
If the man willed it, with just a single glance, Murphy would die. He was even stronger than the Commander. A person this powerful was Su Feng’s father. Murphy recalled how they had recently been troubled by the pursuit of a Soul Awakening level expert. Looking at this City Lord, even Murphy felt a sense of the absurd.
Su Feng, however, seemed even more bewildered. He stared at Cecilia with surprise. After all, he had not seen his father for many years. For a time, Su Feng had felt that Cecilia was either playing Sleeping Beauty somewhere or was simply missing in action, having abandoned Blackthorn City entirely.
Now that he had reappeared, his first sentence was not a greeting or an inquiry about recent events. Instead, he studied Murphy’s appearance, then looked at Su Feng and said, “Interesting. This is your taste?”
Su Feng asked, “What?”
Cecilia said, “The butler told me you took in a personal valet. You call him a valet, yet you are inseparable, so intimate that you even sleep in the same bed at night.”
Su Feng realized exactly what Cecilia was referring to. Sleeping in the same bed meant sleeping while holding Murphy when he was in his giant moth form. An image formed in Su Feng’s mind of the fat moth, heavy as a small cat stroller, acting like a codependent kitten that insisted on being held. It would burrow into his embrace, heavy as lead, while rubbing purple gold scales all over him.
Throwing it out, setting it aside, or kicking it away by the wings did not work. Because the moment Su Feng was out of sight, the big moth would cry loud enough to lift the roof and roll around on the floor in a tantrum.
Su Feng took a deep breath. “You return only to interrogate me about this? I can handle my own affairs.”
Cecilia’s expression remained calm. “Your taste is quite poor.” He scrutinized Murphy. Those green eyes seemed to see through him, or perhaps they were just looking plainly. Cecilia said indifferently, “If you want a man to play with or a few servants to keep, do as you please. I can choose several obedient and sensible servants for you.” Cecilia’s words were shocking. “But why must you pick this type?”
“Or is your taste as peculiar as your mother’s?” Cecilia even smiled. “Back then, he picked me out from a crowd at a single glance. Unfortunately, I am not a good person. He soon regretted it and cried for a long time. Do you want to be like him?” Cecilia lowered his head. Those green eyes were like magnificent emeralds, yet they reflected only a dead forest with a chilling gaze. His pupils were vertical slits. Cecilia whispered, “My temperament was poor in my youth, so your mother hated me. This fellow, however, looks much fiercer than I was.”
Su Feng’s breath caught in his throat. He was so choked up he could barely speak. “What nonsense are you talking!”
“He is just my friend,” Su Feng said. “As for you, Father, you have been away from Blackthorn City for so many years. Why have you suddenly returned?”
“I wish to return. Must I ask for your opinion?” Cecilia countered. The relationship between him and Su Feng was like that of a distant father and son. The man looked down and said, “I am merely caring for my child. You are, after all, the only son born to your mother, and he cannot bear any more children for me. Of course I care for you.”
“So, what type of men do you like?” Cecilia asked. “Or perhaps other races? Elves, Sirens, Liches? I can catch them for you. If you like them, it does not matter if you have several.”
Murphy stood behind Su Feng. Though he wore a smile, there was no mirth in his eyes.
Su Feng said, “No! Stop it!” He pushed past the man and, without looking back, grabbed Murphy to leave. Cecilia called out, “Do not regret it.”
Su Feng pulled Murphy along. “Let us go.”
As the center of their exchange, Murphy remained silent. He felt Su Feng tugging on his arm and looked down to see the young master’s fingers gripping his clothes tightly. Su Feng was so angry that even his fingertips had turned white. Murphy slowly withdrew his hand and instead took Su Feng’s hand in his own. Su Feng glanced back at him, and Murphy gave the back of his hand a comforting pat. Su Feng did not understand the intent but was too annoyed to argue and did not shake him off. Murphy felt a faint sense of joy, as if he had won a small lottery.
He chose me, Murphy thought. He has always been choosing me.
Cecilia watched the two figures depart and asked, “Is this your choice?” As the man’s voice drifted from behind, Su Feng heard Cecilia ask, “You have already met your mother. How did you feel?”
My mother?
Su Feng’s footsteps froze. In that instant, the Commander’s image flashed through his mind: the fiery red hair, the cobalt blue eyes, and that unconcealed concern. Any seemingly groundless kindness always had an explanation. As the truth was unveiled, Su Feng’s heart was filled with an indescribable daze.
“Are you joking?” Su Feng said.
“I do not make such jokes,” Cecilia said. His features relaxed into a genuine smile. His voice was raspy, with a hint of hoarseness. “A pity, he is too afraid of me. So, knowing I was coming, he fled immediately. Do you want to see him again? That way, we can have a family reunion.”
He spoke with a laugh in his voice. Su Feng’s mind was reeling. He instinctively shook his head, finally realizing what the Commander was actually afraid of. Su Feng turned back and said, “Do not lay a hand on him!”
Before Su Feng could finish, Cecilia’s silhouette vanished. He was pursuing the direction the Commander had fled, like a dragon chasing its prey. The previous conversation with Su Feng and the time spent here did not matter, for he knew the prey could not escape. He was certain the Commander could not slip from his grasp.
Only Su Feng and Murphy remained to return to the City Lord’s manor. They did not speak along the way. Murphy felt the young master’s palm was slightly warm. His eyes were flickering and his breathing was rapid. The first thing Su Feng did upon returning to the manor was find the butler and demand, “The Commander, he is my mother?”
The butler’s body stiffened, as if he had long expected this. He turned around slowly. “Young Master, the City Lord is holding a banquet for you. All the young men and women of the city will attend. He told me to tell you: as long as you like someone, you may take whoever you wish.”
Su Feng felt that Cecilia had lost his mind. How was this any different from shoving a child into a blind date and walking away? Su Feng said, “I do not need such things, and I will not attend any banquet.”
“I advised the City Lord that this was quite unreasonable,” the butler said. “But he rejected my advice and suggested that you are still young and should not hang yourself from a single tree.”
Su Feng ignored their nonsense. Murphy stood behind Su Feng, expressionless as a stone pillar. Su Feng said, “You have not answered my previous question.”
The butler went silent for a moment. “Yes, Young Master. Lord Su Qian is your biological mother.”
In that instant, both Murphy’s and Su Feng’s expressions shifted. Su Feng said, “Why did you not tell me? Why keep it from me until now?”
“Lord Su Qian left Blackthorn City a long time ago. It was not that he did not want to see you, but that he could not.” The butler seemed to be hinting at something, but as Su Feng thought over their time together, his appearance, and his words, he finally stepped forward, verging on a breakdown. “Why?” Su Feng was incredulous. “Why can a man get pregnant?”
His voice trembled slightly, creating a faint echo. Both Murphy and the butler were momentarily stunned. Su Feng looked at Murphy as if seeking his opinion. “Do you not find it strange?”
Murphy instinctively looked into Su Feng’s eyes, then cast a glance at his narrow waist. If Su Qian gave birth to Su Feng, then his previous actions are perfectly reasonable, Murphy thought. Is it because Su Qian’s constitution is special, or because his bloodline is unique enough to allow him to bear children? Murphy found it very interesting. He wondered if this bloodline was hereditary.
The man’s eyes flickered slightly. “I am also quite curious, Young Master,” he said.
The butler replied, “Many years ago, Lord Su Qian’s family consumed the first fruit of the Mother Tree of Procreation and was blessed by it. Therefore, those in his family who possess the Mark of Blessing have the ability to conceive. This is the grace of the Mother Tree.” This reasoned explanation left Su Feng stunned. He had never seen such a thing in The Supreme Lord. Is this really a novel written for straight men? Is this a legitimate setting?
Su Feng was so shocked that he completely missed certain details in the butler’s words. Behind him, Murphy’s pupils constricted slightly. The moment he heard those words, he instinctively fixed his gaze upon Su Feng. The gaze first lightly covered Su Feng’s body, then slowly turned into a deep, scrutinizing stare.
The night grew still, yet Cecilia and Su Qian had not returned. Su Feng and Murphy remained in the manor. The series of conflicts today had left Su Feng with a splitting headache. To distract himself, he threw himself into his room and began tinkering with the grimoires and books in his study. But as he flipped through the pages, the knowledge flowed through his mind like water, leaving no trace.
A man can also get pregnant?
It was such an incomprehensible, ridiculous thing, yet Su Feng had to accept it because he truly felt a sense of fondness and closeness to this relative. But in the morning he was an uncle figure, and by the afternoon he was my mother? I treat you as a relative, and you treat me as a son? Su Feng could not process it for the moment. He needed to be alone, and the best way to achieve that was by reading.
In truth, Su Feng was a person who loved to learn. He simply enjoyed the feeling of reading and the time spent taking notes. Back when his magic resistant constitution limited him, even though his study was filled with countless magic grimoires, he had read them all in desperation. Yet he could never find a way to solve his physical condition, nor could he cast even the smallest spell.
But now, Su Feng could finally do what he loved and experience the feeling of absorbing mana. He flipped open an Alchemist’s Manual. These were notes recorded by a great alchemist who had not left his name, but had left behind various interesting events from his travels, along with the alchemy and potion grimoires he had researched.
Su Feng was very interested in this book. He had tried refining potions before. Master Alchemists were highly revered and held high status in the Dawn Continent. The Supreme Lord mentioned that Murphy had fought many people to snatch a top tier secret medicine made by a master alchemist. In the mid stage of the story, to secure a stable supply of medicine, the protagonist even thought of kidnapping an alchemist. However, that alchemist was guarded strictly by his family like a golden nugget.
A talented alchemist capable of creating secret medicines was a coveted prize. Who would refuse a potion that could improve your constitution, extend your life, or cure any poison? However, alchemists were rare for a reason. Not only was the inheritance difficult to find, but the esoteric knowledge was like advanced mathematics. When pushed to the limit, a person can do anything, but one truly cannot do advanced math through sheer willpower. Even if you risk your life, you still cannot solve it.
But for Su Feng, things became wonderful. He found that he could understand the formulas for the secret medicines. His study had the grimoires, and his treasury had the resources. However, he had no mana and thus no ability to produce the medicines. So for all these years, Su Feng could only stare at the grimoires in frustration.
But now, Su Feng could do what he could not before. The man slowly set down the book and took out his own notes, looking at the records he had left a few years ago. At that time, Su Feng had tried various methods to save himself, all of which had failed.
Su Feng’s eyes sparkled. The mana in the room surged toward him, swirling around his fingertips and following his commands. Su Feng curled his lips into a smile. He thought, Why not give it a try? To try the things he could never touch before.
Su Feng closed the book. The tall, handsome man stood up and walked toward the alchemy room.
Under the moonlight, Murphy’s flawless face was bathed in a thin layer of silver light, causing his purple eyes to shimmer. The sound of footsteps reached his ears. The man turned slowly to find Vena, the girl with golden hair, standing behind him.
The girl looked at Murphy with interest. She had noticed him for a while, but due to the rumors in the manor and the fact that Su Feng and Murphy were inseparable, Vena had never had the chance to approach him. Tonight, by some coincidence, Vena saw Murphy again. She looked at him curiously and said, “You are my brother’s personal servant?”
Murphy looked at Vena. The moonlight shone on both of them. They were strangers with nothing to say to each other. The only person who interested Murphy was one person. Murphy narrowed his eyes, a charming smile on his lips. As if thinking of something, he actually initiated a topic.
“I have been by Lord Su Feng’s side for many days and only just returned to the manor.”
Vena said, “Brother rarely cares for a subordinate this much. What have you two been busy with lately?”
Murphy did not answer her. Instead, he said, “I am very grateful for Lord Su Feng’s care and concern. I truly wish to repay him. So,” the man leaned down, a hint of dark gold appearing in his purple eyes. The moment Vena met his gaze, she became a bit dazed. She heard the man say in a pleasant voice, “I really want to repay him, but I do not understand him, nor do I know his preferences. Can you tell me? Does your brother have any intimate friends or other personal servants like me?”
