- What Should I Do After Picking Up the "Dragon Proud Sky" Protagonist as a Pet? (Transmigration)
- Chapter 14 - The Return of the Crying Giant Moth
After the crisis brought by Lanna’s Apostle was resolved, Blackthorn City finally regained its former tranquility. Su Feng returned to the City Lord’s Manor carrying a solid, heavy lump of a moth. The marshmallow spirit slept in his arms, heavy like a molten chocolate ball. The Captain of the mercenary group remained silent throughout the journey, but upon reaching Blackthorn City, he did not follow them inside. He stopped at the city gates as if he were avoiding or fearing something.
He hid his large red ears once more. Su Feng locked eyes with him for a moment, glimpsing a pair of cobalt blue pupils hidden in the shadows.
The Captain seemed hesitant. From the moment his hood fell, his various favors and assistance to Su Feng seemed to have a clear purpose. The spatial ring he had insisted on giving Su Feng only solidified Su Feng’s suspicions. Yet, as they stared at each other, Su Feng suddenly found himself at a loss for words. The Captain kept his head lowered as if he wished to bury himself in a crack in the ground.
Though he was a powerful and handsome man, he always appeared somewhat weak-willed in front of Su Feng. This was not true weakness; it was purely born of guilt.
“Are you leaving?” Su Feng asked suddenly. His voice was calm, which startled the Captain. “You do not seem willing to stay in Blackthorn City for long. It is as if you are afraid of something, or perhaps you are worried about someone finding you?”
Su Feng continued, “I am very grateful for your help. I will find the Covenant Crystal for you. You saved all of Blackthorn City, and I thank you on behalf of everyone.”
With that, Su Feng lowered his head and offered a formal bow.
“You do not need to do that,” the Captain said. “I only wanted to help you.”
“Oh, is that so?”
The head Su Feng had just lowered snapped back up with incredible speed, causing the Captain to freeze mid-motion as he reached out to stop the bow. Su Feng stared at him expressionlessly. That scrutinizing gaze made the Captain’s tail tense up until it coiled around his calves. In the suffocating silence, Su Feng spoke hollowly.
“You said you admire me greatly, yet we have never met and do not know each other.” Amidst the tension, Su Feng suddenly smiled. The look on his face stunned the Captain. Su Feng blinked at him and said, “You have the same eyes as mine.”
“So,” Su Feng drew out the syllable as the Captain’s heart climbed into his throat, “it seems you are my mother’s…”
The Captain’s heart was in his mouth. This man, who had just appeared invincible and formidable, was now so terrified that his ears pressed flat against his head.
“Are you my mother’s brother?” Su Feng looked at him, his expression turning slightly bewildered. There was no resentment or blame in his tone, only a trace of confusion. “You knew I was in trouble, so you came to help me?”
With a heavy thump, the Captain’s heart dropped back into place. He steadied his resolve. His mature voice was deep and husky, exuding a subtle pull of pheromones. “No,” he said.
“I am your mother’s kinsman,” the Captain explained. “You and I share the same bloodline power. That is why we both possess these unique pupils.”
Su Feng looked at him deeply, and his gaze shifted. “I have never seen my mother since the day I was born. Is she doing well?”
The Captain’s fingers twisted together. After a moment of hesitation, he slowly shook his head, then immediately followed with a nod.
Su Feng sighed helplessly. “Is she well or not? Can you not just say it?”
The Captain kept nodding and shaking his head so violently it looked like he might break his own neck. Su Feng quickly stopped his distant relative’s erratic movements and said, “Regardless, I am still very grateful to you.”
Su Feng reached out, his posture more intimate now, and bumped fists with the Captain. A soft smile graced Su Feng’s face. “I also hope she is living a good life.”
His clean, clear smile made the Captain hesitate. As if reaching a final decision, the Captain asked, “Do you want to go see her?”
“I do not,” Su Feng said. His expression remained peaceful. He smiled and continued, “If we have not met for over twenty years, what meaning is there in seeing each other now? I believe she may have her secrets or other reasons, and I respect her choice. However, I do not want to see her.”
The Captain’s body stiffened. Su Feng did not know why he reacted that way, but he offered some comfort nonetheless. Since the Captain seemed wary of the City Lord’s Manor, Su Feng arranged a residence for his relative and asked him to wait.
Su Feng then carried the unconscious, dead-to-the-world giant moth back to his quarters. After so many days of chaos, Su Feng finally found a moment to breathe. The first thing he wanted to do upon returning home was take a proper bath.
During this time, the fluffy ball continued to sleep deeply. The dark gold patterns on its wings intertwined with eerie purple markings to form a dazzling and luxurious pattern. Anyone staring at these patterns would feel a faint sense of threat, as if their very soul was being drawn in and controlled.
Even in sleep, Murphy, who had found a blessing in disguise, experienced a rapid surge of internal power. His flesh and bones, which had been crushed by Lanna’s strike, were restructuring. A series of cracking sounds, like the popping of growing bamboo, filled the room. This caused the mana of the entire manor to surge toward him.
This caused quite a stir. The butler looked around in alarm, only to see Su Feng emerge from his room to handle the chaos. From a distance, a small magical vortex had formed within the manor. Countless elements gathered and made playful sounds before pouring into Murphy’s body. Murphy was undergoing a metamorphosis every second he slept.
Su Feng dismissed the noisy crowd. Turning back, he saw the giant moth slowly floating into the air. Ribbons of gold and purple light swirled around him. The crown-like shape floating above him transformed as though a monarch had finally awakened his true power. The scene was majestic and solemn. The aura around Murphy became as fierce as a rising gale, layering mystery upon profound mystery. It looked like a sleeping deity reclaiming a scepter from the river of time.
Su Feng’s brow twitched. The giant moth suddenly paused and looked toward him. An invisible force surged through the air.
Su Feng slowly took a step back. Between him and Murphy, the scales symbolizing the Blood Covenant reappeared and swayed back and forth. A mystical intuition told him that this time, the struggle of the Blood Covenant would once again determine who was the Master and who was the Servant.
Sweat pooled in Su Feng’s palms. He did not know what he was feeling, but looking at the giant moth before him, he took a deep breath. Murphy’s purple eyes reflected Su Feng’s face as if trapping him within. The gaze was greedy, carrying an indescribable sense of danger as it silently watched him.
The scales in the air tipped back and forth before finally slamming down heavily on one side. Su Feng’s tensed hand slowly relaxed. The giant moth’s icy gaze suddenly shifted to one of pitiful longing. It landed on the ground, fluttering its wings at Su Feng and making whimpering, pleading noises.
Su Feng leaned against the wall. His thin black eyebrows furrowed and then slowly smoothed out. The man let out a long breath of relief. He was still Murphy’s Master.
“Buzz!” The giant moth wiggled its rear and fluttered its wings, landing in front of Su Feng. It seemed to be showing off its exceptionally striking and beautiful wings. It rubbed its front legs together and looked at Su Feng with round, puppy-like eyes. The two antennae on its head swayed constantly. Its long black spiral horns seemed to have grown, and long ribbon-like trails had appeared at the back of its wings.
The giant moth grabbed the ribbons and buzzed as it flew several circles in the air to catch Su Feng’s attention. The result was a shower of shimmering purple and gold scales falling onto the man’s head. After circling, the moth landed on the table like a dog, tilting its head up and spreading its wings to wait for its master’s praise. He really was a beautiful, large, heavy, and glossy moth.
“I must find a way to break this damned Blood Covenant,” Su Feng said coldly as he looked up. “And stop fluttering your scales onto my face!”
Su Feng poked the moth’s head, wiped a hand full of fine scales away, and turned to leave to find a way to break the bond. He had realized just how dangerous this contract was.
“Buzz?”
Seeing the man’s heartless back as he prepared to abandon him, the giant moth froze in disbelief. One second passed, then two. Suddenly, he buzzed loudly and tried to chase Su Feng out of the room. Instead, he slammed right into the closing door with a thud, nearly flattening himself into a moth pancake.
“Buzz?” The moth was incredulous. “Buzz buzz buzz?”
Su Feng looked at him through the doorway. His gaze was wary and carried a hint of repulsion. The giant moth looked at him, then at the door separating them. Su Feng suddenly had a very bad feeling.
Sure enough, upon realizing Su Feng had locked him in, the giant moth slowly floated backward. Just as Su Feng thought he had given up, the moth suddenly slammed against the glass window with a splat. Through the glass, his round eyes slowly filled with tears. Su Feng’s face twitched. The next second, accompanied by a buzz like a fighter jet, the moth pressed against the door and two streams of tears erupted like a dam bursting right in front of Su Feng.
“Good heavens,” Su Feng said as he pressed his hand to his forehead. He had no choice but to open the door, scoop up the noisy, fragile, and clingy giant moth, and give it several vigorous rubs in his arms.
This damned Master-Servant contract was far too bizarre. A sense of belated horror and unease crept into Su Feng’s mind. What exactly was this thing?
[A Vision of a Darker Future]
“Break the contract.”
Su Feng was forced to sit on Murphy’s lap. His words were slurred. The cobalt blue in his pupils shrank into a tight circle before rapidly dilating. His limbs trembled with weakness, yet he still clutched Murphy’s neck, his fingers digging in with force.
Murphy looked down. His deep purple eyes were tinged with black, which was a characteristic of his fusion with the Soul-Sucking Secret Codex. Watching his prey struggle in a death throe, he merely offered a patronizing smile. Then, he snapped his fingers near Su Feng’s ear. The man collapsed like a puppet with cut strings and fell into Murphy’s arms. Murphy turned him around and pressed him onto the table.
“Young Master, did we not have an agreement?” Murphy reached out and gently stroked Su Feng’s soft, fluffy black hair. He watched Su Feng stare back with resentment and fury. Murphy’s voice was filled with a cold, absolute indifference.
He controlled Su Feng’s body, and he controlled his soul. He made Su Feng’s limbs powerless, forcing him to call him Master.
“You will let me stay here and give me a sanctuary,” Murphy whispered into his ear. “And I, in turn, will not turn you into my puppet.”
He parted his lips to reveal pearly white teeth. His breath was cold and chilling.
“Why can you not be a good boy?” His fingers traced Su Feng’s neck, feeling the warmth radiating from the man’s skin as if he possessed every part of him. Su Feng’s heart hammered like a drum. He felt warm and soft to hold, making Murphy somewhat reluctant to let go. “You have left me with no choice but to treat you like this.”
Su Feng could not speak, nor could he resist. He was utterly powerless, an ivory doll embraced by Murphy and a puppet to be manipulated at will.
