What Bad Intentions Could the Heroine Have? [GL] - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Mu Xingyu was swimming through a world of marshmallows. Her only grievance was that these sweet, fragrant marshmallows could only be smelled and not eaten.
But wait, was she forgetting something very important?
Right! Wasn’t she watching a movie with Feng Chichun?
Mu Xingyu snapped her eyes open, her sleepiness vanishing without a trace in an instant.
In front of her was the car’s windshield. She looked down to find a deep red blanket draped over her. Turning her head to the side, she saw Feng Chichun typing away.
“Aren’t we watching a movie?”
Feng Chichun stopped what she was doing. She said, “The movie ended. You were sleeping so soundly that I didn’t wake you.”
Mu Xingyu wanted to smack her own head. She knew she shouldn’t sleep, yet she had drifted off anyway—and slept right through to the credits. Fortunately, Feng Chichun didn’t look angry; otherwise, Mu Xingyu would have to start worrying about how to earn a living after being unemployed twice in a single month.
“I’m sorry, I accidentally fell asleep,” Mu Xingyu apologized with extreme sincerity.
Feng Chichun didn’t seem to mind at all. “That only proves the movie was too boring. It has nothing to do with you, so don’t blame yourself. Besides, I just received notice that there’s a problem with a new project at the group. I probably won’t have time to go shopping for couple outfits with you tomorrow.”
Mu Xingyu quickly said, “Your work is more important. I’m fine with it.”
Feng Chichun said, “Failing to do what was promised is my issue. As compensation, you may ask me for a gift.”
Mu Xingyu hadn’t expected such a stroke of luck, but she didn’t dare to actually ask for anything; that would make her look too greedy.
Recalling that every time she saw Feng Chichun, the woman was either working or on her way to work, she said, “I don’t really want anything. But seeing how you’re always so busy with work, I hope you can take a day off. After all, high-intensity work isn’t good for your health.”
Feng Chichun fell silent for a moment, then asked, “Are you sure?”
Mu Xingyu felt that Feng Chichun might be testing her to see if she was greedy, determining whether to keep employing her. The more Mu Xingyu thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Thus, she nodded with a firm expression, “Yes, that is the gift I want.”
“Very well. Once the issues with the new project are resolved, I will give myself a day off.”
Afterward, Feng Chichun took Mu Xingyu to a restaurant for dinner. Just as written in the dating itinerary, the atmosphere was romantic with candlelight and music, accompanied by a bouquet of delicate, dripping-wet roses.
By the time Mu Xingyu got home, she was still cradling the roses. The fragrance was rich and the blooms were full; just looking at them put her in a great mood. She removed the outer packaging and placed the flowers in a vase.
After showering, changing into pajamas, and applying a face mask, Mu Xingyu realized a very serious problem as she prepared for bed.
She had slept too long at the cinema. Now, she couldn’t fall asleep.
Mu Xingyu stared wide-eyed at the ceiling. Such is the agony of insomnia: the more one wants to sleep, the more elusive sleep becomes, making one even more alert instead. She ended up staying awake until the early hours of the morning. Consequently, when she woke up the next day, she was sporting two heavy dark circles under her eyes.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Mu Xingyu almost cried out loud. Thankfully, the world possessed a thing called cosmetics.
Mu Xingyu had been an art major in university. Her painting skills were good, but her work was often critiqued as being “exquisite but lacking soul.” Fortunately, she found the modeling industry suited her, and her painting skills were now fully applied to her own face. After some meticulous effort, her dark circles were mostly concealed.
Since Feng Chichun was busy today and she didn’t have to “work,” Mu Xingyu planned to meet up with her best friend.
The two met at a nicely decorated milk tea shop. As soon as they met, Mu Xingyu started checking her mirror to see if her makeup had smudged.
Qin Yiru was a web novelist. She wore rimless glasses and appeared to have a very good, mild-tempered personality—perfectly matching her profession. However, it was all a facade.
“That’s enough. Are you here to meet me or to meet the mirror?”
Mu Xingyu slowly put the mirror down. She ordered a honey lemon water, while Qin Yiru ordered a taro pudding milk tea.
Worried that her makeup was too heavy today, Mu Xingyu couldn’t help but ask, “Ruru, how does my face look today?”
Qin Yiru replied, “Pretty, pretty.”
Mu Xingyu sighed and said, “It’s because I didn’t sleep well last night. My dark circles came out.”
Qin Yiru’s expression turned subtle. She said, “If I recall correctly, you were with your girlfriend yesterday? So you two…”
Mu Xingyu immediately caught the double entendre. She had never been teased like this before; her ears turned beet red as she stammered an explanation, “It’s not what you think. We just watched a movie and had dinner yesterday.”
“Then how do you explain those dark circles?”
Mu Xingyu said, “I accidentally fell asleep during the movie, so when it was time to sleep at night, I couldn’t.”
Qin Yiru shook her head and tutted, “You’ve only been dating for a few days and you’re already falling asleep on your dates. What was your girlfriend’s reaction? Was she angry?”
Just then, the waiter brought their drinks. Mu Xingyu took a sip of lemon water and replied, “She said it was fine. She even said it was because the movie was too boring.”
Qin Yiru felt so “sour” (jealous) her teeth ached. “I think this lemon water should belong to me. No, I need a few gulps of sweet milk tea to calm my nerves.” After taking a few large gulps, she asked, “I haven’t asked yet—who is your girlfriend? I’m quite curious. Your standards have always been high; who managed to catch your eye?”
Mu Xingyu’s gaze shifted slightly. She said, “Actually, you know her too.”
Qin Yiru frowned in confusion. “I know her? Who?”
“Feng Chichun.” Mu Xingyu lowered her head quickly to take another sip of lemon water after speaking.
Why was it that despite it being a fake relationship, she was acting as shy as if it were real? Something was wrong with her!
Qin Yiru rubbed her ears in bewilderment, unsure if she had heard correctly.
“Knowing someone one-sidedly counts as ‘knowing’ them? Also, Xingyu, you aren’t joking with me, right? Is this Feng Chichun the same one I’m thinking of?”
Mu Xingyu nodded. “The very one.”
Qin Yiru couldn’t even bother with her favorite milk tea now. She pressed further, “When did you two cross paths? I feel like you’re from two different worlds; you shouldn’t even be in the same zip code.”
Mu Xingyu said, “Didn’t I attend a banquet last week? That’s where I met her.”
Qin Yiru suddenly asked, “I remember you messaged me that night saying you accidentally soiled someone’s clothes, but fortunately someone stepped in to help you. Was that person Feng Chichun?”
“Yes, it was her.”
“This life of yours is like a novel. A beautiful little model meets a domineering female CEO at a banquet—love at first sight, and then second sight. Should I congratulate you on your ‘newlywed’ happiness in advance?”
When Qin Yiru mentioned “This life of yours is like a novel,” Mu Xingyu almost blurted out, “Isn’t it though?”
Mu Xingyu casually made up some nonsense: “Fate works in mysterious ways. Maybe Feng Chichun and I are just meant to be.”
Qin Yiru said, “That’s more than just a little fate! No wonder you said she makes time to be with you even when she’s busy. She really is incredibly busy. The head of the Feng Group… the amount of business she handles every day is beyond the imagination of us ordinary people.”
Mu Xingyu nodded in agreement. “Yeah, she couldn’t go shopping with me today because she had to handle a project.”
“Enough already, feeding me more dog food. Women in love really are different; a casual remark can deal a critical hit to a single dog.”
Meanwhile, on the 66th floor of the Feng building, Feng Chichun had finally resolved the issues and could rest for a moment.
“Secretary Fang, report my upcoming schedule.” Feng Chichun leaned back in her wide chair, eyes closed to rest her mind, a trace of fatigue between her brows.
Fang Yuandong stood by the desk, sliding her finger across a tablet screen. “There’s a meeting in fifteen minutes. This afternoon, there are several proposals for you to review, President Feng… in addition, there is a dinner meeting with President Chen of Xinda Technology.”
Just reading the schedule took Fang Yuandong a full three minutes; Feng Chichun’s entire day was indeed packed to the brim.
At that moment, Feng Chichun opened her eyes. She asked, “Tell me, if someone cares about whether another person has rested well, what does that represent?”
Fang Yuandong pushed up her glasses and said expressionlessly, “It means that person is indeed too busy.”
“No, it represents that the ‘carer’ likes the ‘cared-for’.”
Fang Yuandong really wanted to remind her boss that this was a contract relationship, not a real one. But seeing Feng Chichun like this, she doubted the words would be heard, so she could only respond with a smile.
Feng Chichun said, “It seems you agree with my assessment.”
Fang Yuandong continued to smile.
“Even though she said she doesn’t need a gift and only wants me to rest, I can’t actually not give one. Cancel the dinner meeting for tonight; I have some private business to attend to.”
Fang Yuandong said, “Understood, President Feng.”
