Unconventional [Rebirth] - Chapter 6
This was the first time Jiang Rui had seen someone so brazen.
In his previous life, his boss, Wang Chenghui, who he followed for a lifetime, also ran an underworld business. He was a man of absolute authority in Qing City. Years ago, he had blood on his hands, but later, he became someone who killed without getting his hands dirty. Jiang Rui knew that Ye Wenbin liked brazen people, but he didn’t expect that Ye Wenbin’s taste was so high that he preferred Wang Chenghui over him.
But even Wang Chenghui couldn’t compare to this man.
Jiang Rui looked at the tall and muscular man in front of him and couldn’t recall when Qing City had gotten a man more ruthless than Wang Chenghui.
“My name is Yang Feng. I’ve been saying I wanted to come to Qing City to meet you for a while, but I’ve always been busy. I finally get to meet you now,” Yang Feng said with a smile. But even while sitting casually in the hotel room, his smile made people feel intimidated.
Jiang Rui lowered his eyes, his expression calm and obedient. “Hello, Uncle Yang. My name is Jiang Rui.”
The corner of Yang Feng’s mouth twitched, but then he thought that it made sense for the boy to call him “uncle” considering his age.
“Jiang Rui, is it? Well, our boss thinks your flowers are very well-cultivated and wants to buy a few more pots from you. The price is negotiable.”
Jiang Rui didn’t expect that this man had a superior, and his heart sank. He couldn’t imagine what kind of person this man’s superior was. He was certain that their power was not limited to Qing City. Otherwise, there was no way he hadn’t heard of these people during his long time under Wang Chenghui.
“Most of the flowers haven’t bloomed yet. How many do you want?” Jiang Rui asked.
“We’ll buy as many as you have.”
“How about three pots? I can provide more in the long term, but for now, that’s all I have.”
Yang Feng originally thought three pots were too few, but when he heard “long-term supply,” he immediately smiled again. “The kid is pretty straightforward. Deal! We won’t shortchange you on the price. How should we give you the money?”
“I still have to go to school. You can come once a month on the weekend to pick up the flowers, three pots a month. The price will be a flat hundred thousand per pot, regardless of the type. I need a three-hundred-thousand-yuan deposit, and the full payment will be made at the end of the month when you pick up the flowers. As for the money, the deposit must be in cash, and the rest will be converted to gold. The same method of payment will be used in the future.”
“Also, I have a condition.”
“Go on!”
“The flowers I sell to you will not be sold to anyone else. Likewise, I do not want to see the flowers I grow in anyone else’s hands. Since I am capable of growing them, I can also recognize them. If there is a problem, don’t blame me for breaking off our relationship.”
Jiang Rui’s voice was soft and gentle, his tone as calm as if he were talking about the weather.
The hand Yang Feng was using to light a cigarette trembled, and he almost burned his fingers.
He stared at Jiang Rui for a long time. The boy’s looks were rare and outstanding, refined and elegant. He was so harmless that people couldn’t help but let their guard down, instinctively excluding him from their list of threats. Where did a good kid like this get the courage to threaten him, Yang Feng?
“Okay. You don’t have to worry about the flowers. My boss was already thinking about monopolizing them anyway. I’ll make sure to let him know. If the situation changes, I’ll send the flowers back to you, not a single leaf missing,” Yang Feng said after some thought.
Jiang Rui smiled faintly upon hearing this. He had been thinking that Yang Feng wouldn’t be able to handle this deal and was about to introduce him to a few others, after all, three pots of flowers a month for a total of three hundred thousand yuan was nothing in the future, but right now, there weren’t many people in all of Qing City who could afford it. It seemed he had to reevaluate Yang Feng and the powerful person behind him.
Yang Feng’s heart was puzzled. The price the boy set wasn’t low, but it was within his acceptable range. He just couldn’t understand how a kid so young could talk about a business worth hundreds of thousands without batting an eye.
“Is that much gold convenient for a kid like you to carry? Maybe you should talk to your family about it?”
Jiang Rui looked at Yang Feng, smiled, and shook his head without saying anything.
Yang Feng understood. Well, he thought to himself, this kid has a mind of his own. I’m just worrying for nothing.
Since Jiang Rui requested cash for the deposit, Yang Feng didn’t have that much on him. So he sent someone to get the money. Jiang Rui put the money in his backpack and didn’t refuse Yang Feng’s offer to have someone drive him home.
There were very few people who could afford a sedan at that time. Jiang Rui’s parents were both shocked and scared when they saw their son get out of a sedan. The nearby families gathered at their door, curious and envious. Some even chased the car all the way to the Jiang family’s house. Many people thought it was some wealthy distant relative who had come to visit.
When the men in the car got out, everyone was startled.
The group of men in black suits were intimidating and had a brazen aura about them. They didn’t look like good people. The villagers hadn’t seen much of the world and were so scared that they all hid in their homes, afraid of getting into trouble.
Jiang Rui’s parents were also taken aback. Seeing their son get out of the car, they rushed over to hug him and check him all over. After making sure he was okay, they both sighed in relief and looked at the men in black with hostility.
Jiang Rui knew that these people had a lot of business to take care of, so he didn’t waste time being polite and quickly sent them off.
As soon as they left, He Fulan grabbed her son and asked with lingering fear, “Rui Rui, who were those people? You said you were going to Zhou Yang’s house. How did you get involved with them? Did they hurt you?”
Jiang Rui soothed her. “Mom, do you remember the orchid I brought back from Zhou Yang’s house last time?”
Jiang Jianjun said, “Didn’t that flower die?”
“It didn’t die. I revived it. Auntie Cui sold the flower, and the buyer wanted to buy more, so they came to me. They want me to supply them with flowers regularly.”
He Fulan immediately became furious. “What are they trying to do? You’re still in school. You have to go to high school and college. What kind of future is there in growing flowers for them? You’re going to become a flower farmer? I don’t agree! Go tell them you can’t do this. Your dad and I will go with you. Those people didn’t look like good people. If they dare threaten you, we’ll call the police!”
Jiang Jianjun also frowned and agreed with his wife.
Jiang Rui expected his parents’ reaction. He was not in a hurry and continued to explain, “They don’t want many, just three pots a month. It won’t interfere with my studies. Besides, they are paying a high price, so our family won’t lose out.”
He Fulan still felt it was not right. In her eyes, this was too good to be true.
Jiang Jianjun, however, asked, “How much did they say a pot of flowers would be?”
Jiang Rui held up three fingers.
He Fulan was shocked. “Thirty? A pot of wildflowers for thirty yuan?” She could only earn about two hundred yuan a month from sewing clothes, which was considered a high income in the village. Her son could sell a pot of flowers for thirty yuan? If he grew a few more, that would be insane! No wonder those people could drive a sedan; they treated money like it was nothing.
Jiang Jianjun also looked a little tempted.
Jiang Rui saw the look on his parents’ faces, and the corners of his mouth turned up. He smiled and said, “No, not thirty.”
He Fulan’s eyes widened. Could it be three hundred? That was too much; it was impossible.
“It’s three thousand,” Jiang Rui said.
He Fulan and Jiang Jianjun were stunned. What did their son just say? How much was a pot of flowers? Three thousand? My goodness, was he growing gold? No, it was more precious than gold!
“Honey, pinch me!” He Fulan grabbed her husband’s arm and cried out.
Jiang Rui was at a loss whether to laugh or cry. “Mom, it’s true. You don’t know this, but the profit in the Qing City flower market is huge. What I’m doing is nothing.”
After their initial joy, He Fulan and Jiang Jianjun became a little suspicious. What if their son had been tricked?
As if he could read their minds, Jiang Rui took out three thousand yuan from his backpack and handed it to his parents. “This is the deposit they gave me. They will pay the rest at the end of the month.” Jiang Rui had already put the rest of the cash into the Secret Realm.
The couple looked at the thick stack of money in front of them as if they were dreaming.
“Son, be honest with me. Can you really grow such precious flowers? I’ve never seen you grow any flowers before. How can you do it?” He Fulan worried that her son wouldn’t be able to grow them well, which would not only cause them to lose money but would also bring trouble to her son.
Jiang Rui said, “Don’t worry about that. If they didn’t think I could grow them, they wouldn’t have paid such a high price, would they? I don’t have much experience, but I have a talent for it and can learn. If they’re really not satisfied, they just won’t do business with me anymore. We can just return their deposit.”
He Fulan was relieved. She then started to calculate. Three thousand yuan a pot, three pots a month, that was nine thousand yuan. Nine thousand yuan a month! The combined income of the couple in a year was less than half of that.
If he grew flowers for a year, they would not only have the money for their son’s education but also for his marriage and grandchildren! If he did it for a few years, they could even buy a house and a car in the city.
He Fulan came back to her senses and quickly hid the money, warning her husband, “You can give your money to whomever you want, but this is the deposit. Not a single cent can be touched. From now on, I will be in charge of all the money our son earns and save it for his future education and marriage. Don’t even think about taking advantage of my son’s money, you Jiang family!”
Jiang Jianjun was so annoyed he laughed. In his wife’s eyes, she was the biological mother, but was he not the biological father?
