Twist of Fate - Chapter 36
Although it was their wedding night, since neither of them had parents anymore, they hadn’t planned a proper ceremony.
Besides, even if they wanted one, there simply wasn’t enough time to arrange it.
Qin Ning felt that Xie Jing had been wronged, so she was determined to be gentle tonight.
But after suppressing her feelings for two whole years, their reunion felt like a hundredfold more intense than a typical wedding night. In the end, Qin Ning couldn’t hold back and accidentally made Xie Jing cry.
Xie Jing mentally cycled through every curse word she knew, yet still couldn’t find one strong enough to describe Qin Ning’s insanity last night.
“You bastard! You beast! You hypocrite!”
“Liar! You’re nothing but a liar!”
“Ugh…”
Grumbling under her breath, Xie Jing held her sore waist and hobbled into the bathroom. With a loud bang, she slammed the door shut, followed by the sound of running water.
She couldn’t even look at herself in the mirror while showering. Qin Ning had completely lost it last night—jealous to the point of madness—interrogating her over every inch of her body, asking if anyone had
kissed her here or there, practically naming names. Did she think Xie Jing couldn’t figure it out?
Xie Jing told her no, no one had touched her anywhere. But Qin Ning didn’t believe her and got even more jealous.
Utterly unreasonable!
After angrily finishing her shower and drying off, Xie Jing realized she had stormed in too quickly earlier and forgot to bring a change of clothes.
She considered walking out like that and grabbing something from Qin Ning’s closet, but as soon as she opened the door, she heard movement in the bedroom.
Peeking out, she saw Qin Ning bending over to change the bedsheets.
Her face flushed bright red, and she slammed the door shut again with a loud bang.
Her clothes from last night were far too messy to wear again, so she wrapped herself in a towel and stepped out.
Xie Jing’s long, pale legs were now covered in marks. As soon as she emerged, Qin Ning looked up, her lips parting as if to speak—but she held back.
Xie Jing shot her a glare, grabbed a shirt from the closet, and bolted back into the bathroom.
When she came out again, dressed, Qin Ning was gone. On the bed was a set of lingerie in her size—but no pants.
That had to be on purpose!
As she stood there glaring at the underwear, Qin Ning’s voice called from outside the room, “Xie Jing, come have lunch.”
“…Alright…”
Qin Ning’s shirt was way too big for her; the hem reached her upper thighs. Xie Jing glanced down at her bare legs, then simply walked out like that—serves Qin Ning right. Let her reflect on her beastly behavior from last night.
There wasn’t a single inch of her left unscathed.
During lunch, Xie Jing cheerfully swung her legs as she texted her aunt to say she might need a little more time before returning to Jiangcheng.
Just as she put down her phone, she met Qin Ning’s intense gaze.
Xie Jing: “?”
Qin Ning: “Sit properly.”
But rebellious by nature, Xie Jing did the opposite—plopping herself right into Qin Ning’s lap.
With her full weight pressing onto Qin Ning’s thigh, Xie Jing felt smug. This was her little revenge.
Qin Ning wrapped one arm around her waist and used the other to place some greens in her bowl. “Who were you messaging just now?”
“No one!” Xie Jing retorted, dumping the vegetables back into Qin Ning’s bowl. Then she picked up a piece of steamed fish for herself and took a big bite.
Clearly unconvinced, Qin Ning’s grip around her waist tightened. She leaned in and nibbled on Xie Jing’s earlobe with mischief in her eyes.
“Ow ow ow—don’t bite my ear! It hurts!” Xie Jing tried to dodge but couldn’t escape. As she tried to get up, Qin Ning pushed her right back into her lap and even gave her a little pat.
“Focus on eating,” Qin Ning said. “We’re going out after this.”
“…Okay…” With her ears burning red, Xie Jing sat up straight, not daring to move again.
She didn’t ask where they were going. After lunch, when she walked into the living room, she saw a pile of clothes on the sofa—all her size.
“Wear this one.” Qin Ning picked out a light blue dress and held it up in front of her.
Qin Ning had impeccable taste, so Xie Jing didn’t object. She obediently changed into the dress Qin Ning had chosen and followed her out.
Apparently, they were attending a birthday banquet held at the Fang family’s old estate. It was Qin Ning’s younger cousin’s birthday, and many guests were expected.
Qin Ning intended to use this opportunity to quietly introduce Xie Jing to the Fang family circle—after all, they were married now and would inevitably attend events together in the future. Better to give everyone a heads-up early.
They first went to pick out a gift for Qin Ning’s cousin, then stopped by a salon for Xie Jing’s styling, before finally heading to the venue.
Although it was called a birthday banquet, it was more like a networking event disguised as a party. Businesspeople and influential families from all across Jinghai were invited—clearly a push to foster connections.
Xie Jing was never a fan of such social settings. After walking with Qin Ning for a bit, she let go of her hand and said, “I want to walk around by myself.”
“Don’t wander too far. I’ll come find you later,” Qin Ning replied, slightly worried. But this was the Fang estate, so security wasn’t a concern.
After Qin Ning left, Xie Jing lifted her dress slightly and wandered to a quiet corner of the garden.
The estate covered a large area—nearly 800 to 900 square meters, a rare luxury in a place like Jinghai. The five-story villa had both a garden and a man-made lake. The party was mainly taking place on the first floor and in the garden.
As Qin Ning headed inside, Xie Jing admired the scenery for a moment and pulled out her phone to pass the time.
But before she could open WeChat, a few glamorous young women appeared in front of her.
Xie Jing looked up and they all paused in surprise.
One girl, clearly the leader, smiled politely and asked, “Hey… whose family are you from? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”
“I’m…” Xie Jing carefully chose her words. “A friend of President Fang.”
“Ohh, no wonder you’re so pretty—you’re a friend of President Fang!” Chen Yunqing’s eyes sparkled as she walked up cheerfully and took her hand. Xie Jing couldn’t resist her enthusiasm and followed her to a long table.
The table was lined with champagne and all sorts of desserts. Xie Jing, a little hungry, reached for one—but before she could grab it, a glass of champagne was shoved into her hand.
“What’s your surname?” Chen Yunqing asked, leaning in with a wink.
“Xie. Xie Jing,” she replied, clinking her glass lightly.
“I’m Chen Yunqing.” Yunqing took a sip and whispered shyly, “I heard President Fang has a white moonlight—someone she’s been hung up on for two years. Is it true?”
Xie Jing was stunned. “Who told you that?”
“My cousin.”
Her cousin had once worked with President Fang. Yunqing had thought they had a chance, but her cousin came back saying it was hopeless—Fang already had someone in her heart. Yunqing had even caught a glimpse of that girl once—she and President Fang looked perfect together.
“Who’s your cousin?” Xie Jing asked, frowning.
“That’s not important,” Yunqing grinned. “What matters is that I really like President Fang. I want to pursue her. You’re her friend, right? You must know something about that white moonlight. Are they still in touch?”
If they weren’t, then she’d make her move. She wasn’t like her cousin with all that ‘purity’ nonsense. She didn’t mind if President Fang had someone in the past.
President Fang was beautiful, rich, and practically her dream wife.
Xie Jing took another sip, unsure how to respond.
She couldn’t exactly say, “That white moonlight you’re talking about is sitting right in front of you.”
So, she gave an awkward smile. “I just got back from abroad… I don’t really know anything about that, haha.”
Thankfully, Chen Yunqing didn’t press further and kept chatting away on her own.
“President Fang is so devoted! Still single after two years. That white moonlight must be someone extraordinary to keep President Fang wrapped around her finger like that!”
Yunqing sighed dramatically.
Xie Jing took a few more sips of champagne, mostly just listening.
“I’m going to confess to her later! Do you know what kind of flowers she likes?” Yunqing asked, noticing Xie Jing’s flushed cheeks. Worried she’d had too much, she swapped her drink for juice and sweetly pushed some desserts toward her.
Unable to refuse, Xie Jing picked up a treat and nibbled on it, smiling. “No idea, haha. She’s never told me.”
They chatted like that for a while—until a new figure walked over.
“Yunqing, who are you talking to? You two seem pretty close.” It was Chen Qianqian, also attending the party. She had spotted Yunqing from afar and came over to say hi.
“This is Xie Jing, a friend of President Fang,” Yunqing introduced brightly. Then turned to Xie Jing, “This is the cousin I mentioned earlier.”
As Xie Jing’s eyes met Chen Qianqian’s, both of them froze.
Xie Jing: cough cough cough cough!
Chen Qianqian: “Why is it you?!”
Yunqing: “You two know each other?”
“Of course,” Qianqian replied. “This is the ‘white moonlight’ I told you about—President Fang’s mystery girl from two years ago.”
She remembered how President Fang had kept her at a distance because of this girl. Ever since the day Xie Jing caught them together, Fang had stopped even having meals with her. Though Fang never said it directly, Qianqian could tell—this girl was the reason.
But afterward, she never saw Xie Jing again, and Fang became colder, more withdrawn.
Qianqian had tried a few more times, subtly and not-so-subtly, but Fang never gave her a chance. So eventually, she gave up and moved on.
Yunqing: “???”
Xie Jing: “……”
Someone please let her explain.
