Turns out I Was the CEO's White Moonlight [Rebirth] - Chapter 1
The morning sunlight filtered gently through the glass, blanketing the room filled with damp mist. Shen Yelin stood motionless before the mirror, gazing at the reflection within.
He had slightly messy bangs and skin so fair it almost glowed in the sunlight. His eyebrows were neither too thick nor too thin, conveying a sense of refined elegance. Yet, beneath them lay a pair of shimmering “peach blossom” eyes, with the outer corners curving slightly upward. His lashes were thick and curled, and his nose was straight. If it were not for his thin lips being perpetually pressed into a cold line, this face would likely have presented an entirely different temperament.
It was a very beautiful face.
To use a popular internet expression, he possessed the kind of look that prompted people to ask, “Would you like to debut? The kind that becomes an instant hit.” No matter where he walked, even without a spotlight, he would be the most dazzling star in the crowd.
“Ah, your face! No matter how many times I see it, it truly inspires affection.”
A voice resembling a child’s suddenly echoed from the void, sighing with a mix of joy and self-satisfaction. The entity giggled for a moment before speaking to the mirror-gazing Shen Yelin. “A perfect transmigration. Congratulations, Host! We have successfully landed.”
Without a word, Shen Yelin wiped the condensation from the mirror. He took a towel and silently began drying his wet hair.
The current timeline was five years ago, the day just after his twenty-seventh birthday. On this exact day five years in the future, he had been driving when he met with a fatal accident. The crash was horrific; the sports car was crushed out of shape, the fuel tank leaked, and the vehicle burst into flames, claiming his life.
Shen Yelin originally thought his soul would simply return to the underworld for reincarnation. Surprisingly, not only did he not leave the highway where he died, but he also became a lingering spirit with nothing to do. He stood by, watching coldly as fire trucks and ambulances roared onto the scene, only to helplessly declare his death.
For seven consecutive days after that, he did not see a single animal nearby, let alone a soul-reaping grim reaper.
That was until a glowing, large white egg landed tentatively in front of him, asking if he wanted to be reborn into the past. Only then did Shen Yelin feel a sense of groundedness, as if he had not been abandoned by the entire world. The egg told him it was a “Dream Come True System,” created to help those treated unfairly by fate to change their destinies and reverse the past. As long as he was willing to become its host, they could work together to change his fate of dying.
“The price?”
“To serve the people!” the glowing egg replied without hesitation.
Shen Yelin expressed his skepticism.
“Actually, it is like this,” the egg replied sheepishly. “For me to continue existing, I need Peach Blossom Points. The more your peach blossoms bloom, meaning the more people fight and get jealous over you, the faster the points grow. According to my search results, you have the strongest romantic luck within a hundred-mile radius. My energy was not enough to travel further to find someone else, so why don’t we just make do and collaborate?”
“Romantic luck? Are you sure?”
Shen Yelin considered his life to have been quite ordinary. Although he came from a privileged background, he was naturally fastidious and had almost no fair-weather friends. From childhood to adulthood, there had always been a long line of people confessing to him, yet his own romantic history was a blank slate. He truly could not understand how he had become the person with the strongest romantic luck in this white egg’s eyes.
“Actually, it is like this,” the egg hesitated. “Why don’t you come see for yourself?”
It whisked Shen Yelin to the scene of his own memorial service, pointing at the bustling crowd. “I will give you a God’s-eye view. Hold on.”
Shen Yelin saw a white light emit from the egg and fly into his body. Immediately after, he saw his childhood friend, Ji Wencheng, walking forward with flowers, placing lilies on the table with a solemn expression.
Then, his inner thoughts reached Shen Yelin: “I should have spoken my mind sooner. If I had told you I loved you earlier, would things have turned out differently?”
Shen Yelin remained silent.
Next, he heard a different internal voice from a former business rival: “Except for you, I will never love anyone else in this world. Shen Yelin, do not worry, I will help you get revenge.”
Following that was a junior from his university days, now successful in the entertainment industry: “Senior, I did not have time to tell you I liked you. I have secretly loved you for years. I was just about to confess, so how could you leave?”
Finally, there was a senior alumnus who had attended the same university and known him for years. He gently laid down flowers and said, “Yelin, have a good sleep. Goodnight. I love you.”
The egg sighed. “See? Do you understand now? You thought your life was ordinary mainly because this group of people around you never took the initiative to express their love. Otherwise, how could your life be so dull? It should be filled with storms of passion. Anything less would be a waste of your face!”
Shen Yelin felt a headache coming on and did not even want to acknowledge it. He told the System, “Just send me to the afterlife.”
The System panicked. “No, no! I finally found a host; how can you be so passive? Think of your family. Do you not think they are heartbroken? Even if you do not care about yourself, you have to consider your blood relatives. Is being reborn to change your fate really harder to accept than letting your family suffer?”
Shen Yelin fell silent.
His parents had both passed away during his youth, and he was raised by his uncle and aunt. They treated him like their own son. Once he reached adulthood, it was only natural that he began taking over the family business; they had never mistreated him. His uncle and aunt’s only daughter, his cousin Shen Xuan, was also very close to him. If he died like that, it would indeed be a betrayal of them.
After thinking for a while, Shen Yelin reluctantly nodded and accepted the System’s proposal, agreeing to the rebirth pact. Now, he had successfully returned to the past with the System. However, the place where he woke up felt entirely foreign.
Under normal circumstances in this timeline, his five-years-younger self would have just stepped out of the shower, perhaps not even having had time to dry off. But this bathroom was definitely not a place from his memory, and it certainly was not his own home.
He pondered for a moment and asked the System, “Do you know where this is?”
The System beeped for a moment and said, “You are currently in a presidential suite at the Dorian Goth Hotel. Your birthday party was held here yesterday. You drank until you blacked out and were helped inside. The room was registered under your name.”
“I see.” Shen Yelin rubbed his throbbing temples, a remnant of the hangover, and tossed the towel into the laundry basket. “The question is, why would I choose to stay at a hotel instead of going home?”
The people who attended his birthday party were all on good terms with him; how could they not know where he lived? Especially someone like Ji Wencheng, his childhood friend who not only knew his address but even had his fingerprint registered in the door’s smart lock. No matter what, it was impossible for them to leave him alone in a hotel and just walk away.
Even though Shen Yelin now knew that Ji Wencheng harbored unspeakable feelings for him, after being friends for so many years, he still had confidence in Ji Wencheng’s character.
The System paused subtly and then said cautiously, “Why don’t you go outside and see for yourself?”
Shen Yelin frowned, feeling slightly displeased. He tied his bathrobe tightly and pushed open the bathroom door, intending to clean up, check out, and head home early to rest. However, as soon as he stepped into the room, he froze.
On the extremely messy bed sat a man with broad shoulders and long legs. The man had deep features, a high nose bridge, and closed eyes, with thick lashes casting faint shadows on his eyelids. Although he was still heavily intoxicated and had not been woken by Shen Yelin’s movements, he exuded an aura of reckless lawlessness even in his sleep.
With just one glance, Shen Yelin knew he did not like this person. Furthermore, he absolutely did not know him. Even looking five years into the future, he could find no trace of this man in his memory.
The System said wistfully, “The world is declining, and hearts are not what they used to be. Host, I truly did not misjudge you.”
“Shut up,” Shen Yelin said in his mind, scanning the chaotic room. Clothes stripped from both men were scattered everywhere; even a necktie had been crumpled into a ball. However, judging by the labels on the jackets, the other man was likely someone of status and wealth, not far behind his own family background.
Shen Yelin recalled that since being reborn, his body had not felt any strange sensations. He walked to the trash can by the bed and looked down at the bag, which contained only an empty cigarette pack. He finally let out a sigh of relief.
He was relieved to find that he was still “clean” and had not engaged in any reckless behavior.
“Are you not afraid you were the one who committed the act?” the System whispered. “The room is a mess. Who would believe the two of you are innocent?”
“That is none of my business,” Shen Yelin replied coldly. “I have no memory of last night, so I could not have been conscious. We are all adults; one must learn to be responsible for one’s own actions.”
“You really are cold-blooded.”
“You are welcome.”
“I was not praising you!”
Shen Yelin pushed the System’s complaints to the back of his mind and quickly identified his own clothes amidst the mess. He dressed with a blank expression, gathered his things, and left the room without hesitation, leaving the unknown man behind.
His phone was dead. While paying the room fee downstairs, he asked for a charging cable. He waited for the phone to boot up while waiting for his driver to take him home.
Unsurprisingly, his inbox was flooded with various messages.
He looked through them, deleting most of the meaningless wailing from Shen Xuan into the trash. He then selectively replied to a few people, saying everything was fine. Finally, his gaze settled on a schedule reminder that popped up in the notification bar.
The reminder contained a small line of text: 10:00 AM, Yaoyu Entertainment, Xie Yun’s new movie audition.
