Traveling to the Ancient Times to Rely on Love and Marrying a Shadow After O - Chapter 3
Ye Xunshu hadn’t even had the chance to process the last sentence before her eyes flew open in shock, and she quickly put distance between herself and Fu Yi.
At the same time, her breathing grew heavy, entirely beyond her control.
Covering her mouth and nose, she stared at Fu Yi with wide, rabbit-like eyes.
How could she just recklessly release pheromones in broad daylight like this?
If it were an Omega doing this, people would call them shameless.
Seeing Ye Xunshu suddenly avoiding her, Fu Yi froze in confusion.
She hadn’t done anything, why was Ye Xunshu dodging her like she was some kind of plague?
“You need to rein it in.” Ye Xunshu’s legs weakened. Her body was already frail, and after being temporarily marked the night before, she was even more sensitive to Fu Yi’s pheromones now.
Fu Yi poured herself a cup of cold tea, watching as Ye Xunshu slumped down. “What’s wrong with you? And what do you mean, rein it.”
Her words cut off abruptly because she suddenly realized what Ye Xunshu meant.
The familiar scent of osmanthus filled the air, and Fu Yi, equally flustered, covered her own mouth and nose, retreating to the corner of the room.
“H-how do I rein it in?!”
As her body’s reactions grew increasingly undeniable, Fu Yi had no idea how to suppress it. But if this continued, there was no guarantee what had happened the previous night wouldn’t repeat itself. Ye Xunshu, bundled in thick clothing, was already drenched in sweat, her skin flushed a delicate shade of pink.
Fu Yi thought of a solution. There was no way the weakened Ye Xunshu could leave, but she still had some strength left, if she could just make it out before losing control.
But that meant passing by Ye Xunshu.
Passing through the area thick with Omega pheromones.
“……” Fu Yi held her breath and bolted for the door.
Just as she was about to reach it, something tugged at her clothes, halting her in her tracks.
Fu Yi turned and saw Ye Xunshu on the floor, one hand gripping the hem of her robe tightly, her voice trembling with the faintest hint of tears. “Don’t!”
“Don’t open the door.”
If the door opened, the pheromones inside would spill out, and then everyone would know that she and Fu Yi had been indulging in passion in broad daylight.
Fu Yi, of course, wouldn’t care. But, she did.
“Don’t leave me alone, please!” Ye Xunshu’s body trembled uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face as she curled in on herself from the unbearable discomfort. Yet, no matter what, her grip refused to loosen.
Fu Yi’s heart clenched at the sight.
Truthfully, if she just struggled a little, Ye Xunshu wouldn’t be able to hold her back.
Just like the night before, she could lock herself in the room alone, endure it, and wait for it to pass.
But to leave her here by herself.
Again.
“……”
Fu Yi clenched her fists, unable to bring herself to pull away. Her voice was hoarse as she said, “If you keep holding on like this. I won’t be able to hold back.”
It was her body’s instinctive reaction that uncontrollable urge, that loss of reason, the overwhelming desire to pull the sweet-scented person before her into an embrace, to mark her, to claim her.
That impulse only grew stronger as the pheromones in the room thickened, her rationality slipping away bit by bit, replaced by an endless, consuming hunger.
“Fu Yi-jie,” By the time Ye Xunshu regained a sliver of clarity, she was already being lifted onto the bed by Fu Yi. Her flushed fingers pressed lightly against the other woman’s shoulders, as if pushing her away yet also as if deliberately luring her closer.
“Mmm…” A faint, tingling pain at the back of her neck drew a soft, trembling whimper from Ye Xunshu. Before she could even finish the sound, it was swallowed by warm, tender lips pressing against hers.
The kiss lingered for a long time, Fu Yi nearly losing herself in it. The Omega beneath her was exceptionally soft, her waist so slender Fu Yi could encircle it with one hand, pulling her close. Ye Xunshu responded as she should, intermittent low moans escaping between their lips, tugging at both their hearts.
Osmanthus petals fluttered down, carried by the sea breeze.
By the time they parted, Ye Xunshu was left speechless, her almond-shaped eyes brimming with tears as she gasped for air, unable to look away from Fu Yi.
The scent in the room gradually faded. Fu Yi gazed down at the flushed face beneath her, then nervously whispered, “I’m sorry, I don’t know how to retract it.”
Ye Xunshu turned her head away, refusing to look at Fu Yi.
Fu Yi: “…”
Was she angry?
Fu Yi recovered much faster than Ye Xunshu. Like a child who had done something wrong, she grew uneasy under the other’s silent accusation.
She truly didn’t know how to retract her pheromones.
Nor did she understand how they had suddenly surged out on their own.
Ye Xunshu closed her eyes, unsure how to assess this young lady from the Fu family.
Even if she wanted to lie, surely she wouldn’t claim she couldn’t retract her pheromones?
Any normal person could do that.
Fu Yi: “Ye Xunshu, say something.”
“If you can’t retract them then use suppressant patches.” Ye Xunshu turned onto her side, her back to Fu Yi. “Like Omegas do. Wear those things.”
But such things were usually resisted by proud Alphas.
She wouldn’t accept it, would she?
“Oh! how do I use them?”
Ye Xunshu opened her eyes, momentarily wondering if she had misheard.
“Like you, sticking it on the neck?” Fu Yi pointed at the square patch on the back of Ye Xunshu’s neck. She had noticed it earlier when she’d wanted to bite down, assuming it was covering the mark from last night’s bite on Ye Xunshu’s gland.
So it was a suppressant patch.
Just wearing this could suppress pheromones. Fu Yi marveled inwardly, how fascinating.
Though the lower realm’s civilization lagged behind, they had still invented such a thing. One had to admit, the wisdom of ancient people was no less than theirs perhaps they simply lacked sufficient resources.
Ye Xunshu suddenly felt this Fu Yi was different from the rumors.
Given her flirtatious reputation, how could she not know how to retract pheromones?
And just now had she actually agreed to use suppressant patches?
Was this really the eldest daughter of the Fu family?
Or was Fu Yi plotting something?
Ye Xunshu snapped out of her shock and tried to sit up. Seeing her struggle, Fu Yi helped her rise.
Ye Xunshu took the opportunity to pat Fu Yi’s head. “Is Fu Yi-jie serious?”
Fu Yi stiffened, her face flushing with embarrassment. “Y-yes!”
The Omega’s hand was warm, and Fu Yi froze, feeling utterly awkward.
“I see!” Ye Xunshu murmured as if enlightened. “Not sick.”
“Then it wasn’t nonsense.”
She withdrew her hand, then suddenly gave Fu Yi a faint smile. “Then what jie said earlier about not hating me was that also true?”
Fu Yi nodded. “Of course it was true.”
She looked at the exquisitely beautiful Omega before her and wondered if the girl thought she was being deceived.
Back in the upper realm, she had often heard that in the lower realm, Alphas were revered while Omegas were looked down upon Alphas had multiple wives and concubines, with many Omegas serving a single Alpha.
No wonder Ye Xunshu felt so insecure.
Fu Yi clicked her tongue inwardly. The backward thinking of these ancients was truly harmful look how frightened the poor girl was.
To reassure Ye Xunshu, Fu Yi repeated with extra seriousness and sincerity, “I don’t dislike you.”
Ye Xunshu gazed into Fu Yi’s determined eyes, and upon hearing those words, she couldn’t help but feel her nose sting again. She murmured, “Then, what about the annulment you mentioned earlier?”
“That was a joke!” Seeing the girl on the verge of tears again, Fu Yi rubbed her forehead and said, “I was just kidding. Pretend I was talking nonsense.”
Ye Xunshu burst into laughter, her words laced with hidden meaning. “Sister Fu Yi doesn’t seem like Sister Fu Yi.”
Fu Yi scratched her head. “Huh?”
“Never mind.” Ye Xunshu smiled faintly, closing her eyes as if reminiscing about the kiss from earlier. “The scent of the sea breeze, it’s lovely.”
–
Fu Yi was summoned by her parents in this world.
The moment she stepped into the room, she saw the stern expressions on their faces. Though there was a difference between them Lin Wan, a female Omega, no matter how you looked at her, didn’t carry the murderous glare of the Alpha father beside her.
Fu Yi quickly racked her brain, trying to figure out what she had done to upset them. She entered and bowed first. “Father, Mother.”
Lin Wan was the first to speak. “Yier, how was last night?”
Fu Yi froze.
Weren’t the ancients supposed to be reserved? This was way too direct!
Fu Shen didn’t object either. Both of them stared at her intently.
“Um… last night,” Fu Yi grew increasingly nervous, feeling as if the two were fishing for gossip.
After a long pause, she averted her gaze and forced out a response. “Last night was quite good.”
“Hmm…” They nodded in unison.
Fu Yi: “…”
What’s with the “hmm”?
Lin Wan remarked, “Seems like it wasn’t very good.”
Fu Shen glanced at Lin Wan, his brows furrowing into a deep frown. “Aji didn’t lie to us.”
Fu Yi was utterly baffled by their cryptic exchange.
What on earth had Aji told them?
“Yier, it’s alright.” Fu Shen suddenly placed a hand on his daughter’s shoulder. “Your father and I won’t let you suffer this humiliation. If the Ye family’s daughter isn’t up to the task, we’ll just divorce her.”
“!” Fu Yi was shocked and hurriedly protested, “Divorce? Why would we divorce her all of a sudden? She’s only been married here for a day!”
“Eh?” Lin Wan scratched her chin and said to Fu Shen, “Husband, Yier’s reaction suggests she doesn’t want to divorce her wife.”
“Mm.” Fu Shen nodded, agreeing with Lin Wan. “If Yier doesn’t want to divorce her, then we’ll keep her. But Wanwan, Yier is at the perfect age. We should hurry and find her some new wives and concubines. We can’t let the Fu family line die out.”
“Husband makes a fair point.” Lin Wan smiled at Fu Shen. The two of them played off each other seamlessly, completely ignoring Fu Yi’s presence.
Fu Yi felt like they were just here to flaunt their affection.
“Wait a minute!” Fu Yi cut through the sudden shower of affection and declared, “I don’t want multiple wives and concubines.”
“What?” Lin Wan seemed to have heard something unbelievable and exclaimed in shock, “Yi’er, but just the day before yesterday, you spent half the day pestering me, saying you didn’t want to marry Miss Ye. I had to persuade you for ages before you reluctantly agreed to try marrying her first, and if she didn’t suit your tastes, you could always replace her later. How come today?”
Fu Yi was stunned.
Had the original owner actually said such things?!
If she wasn’t satisfied, she’d just replace her? Even though having multiple wives and concubines was common in ancient times, this attitude was downright dehumanizing toward Omegas!
The real kicker was that the parents actually supported this mindset.
Fu Yi felt she had once again broadened her understanding of feudal backwardness.
Suddenly, the sound of shattering porcelain came from somewhere, snapping Fu Yi out of her brief astonishment.
Everyone turned toward the noise and saw Ye Xunshu standing before a mess of broken shards, her clothes damp with spilled tea, yet she seemed utterly indifferent.
Only her beautiful eyes, brimming with tears, cast a faintly resentful glance in Fu Yi’s direction. The look wasn’t sharp, but it pierced straight through her like a knife.
Fu Yi’s heart skipped a beat.
Oh no.
