- Transmigrated into the Zerg Race: Didn't We Agree to Call Off the Engagement?
- Chapter 3 - Despicable Genes
Just go to sleep.
It was overwhelming.
A feeling both foreign and familiar surged up Sirius’s spine and exploded in his mind. He relaxed, leaning back against the sofa, and looked down at Lex.
The hair colors of the Zerg varied wildly. The military female before him had beautiful, deep purple hair. Under the lights, even that cold color appeared somewhat soft. As the strands fell smoothly, the male reached out and grabbed them, turning the neat hair into a mess.
The female was good-looking, though a different type of beauty than Julian’s. Sirius had not clearly realized this before. After all, he had simply picked a name from the Mainframe’s matching recommendation list. He had instinctively chosen a military female just to form a conventional family unit.
It was just a casual arrangement, so who would have cared about the details?
Sirius let out a long breath.
“Lex, you really did well. You are such a wonderful female. I am deeply sorry that I never noticed it before.” Sirius’s voice was low and hoarse as he spoke to comfort the female.
In Zerg society, what are the standards used to judge a female? Given that their society focuses on only two things, the criteria are reproduction and aggression.
Military females possess both. The union of a high-grade military female and a high-grade male brings unimaginable pleasure. Sirius might have scoffed at this claim before, but now he felt that the rumors were not entirely false.
A part of his genetic code had been completely ignited.
Conquest, possessiveness, and an unavoidable primal ambition mixed together. Zerg genes are despicable, and male genes are even more so. Unfortunately, Sirius was now exactly that kind of despicable male.
He relaxed his hand and stroked the female’s hair more gently. This tender consolation allowed Lex to finally ease out of his tense, rigid state. Under the male’s patient soothing, the bug who had previously seemed so stiff and high-strung began to look much softer.
Sirius straightened up and reached out to help him up. He lifted the female’s chin, his thumb consciously and lightly rubbing the corner of Lex’s crimson lips. Their noses touched, and their foreheads pressed together.
Lex panted unconsciously, his hot breath blooming against the male’s face.
The air grew increasingly damp and hot. The Zerg preferred humid environments, though they did not particularly care for intense heat.
Sirius’s heart raced with agitation. He felt a bit short of breath as if the heat had made the air thin. He tugged at his collar to breathe more easily, but it did little to help. Consequently, he took off his outer jacket.
The Zerg weather was kept at a constant temperature suitable for survival, so Sirius was wearing ordinary sportswear. Now, he was left in only a short-sleeved shirt. He felt cooler for a brief moment, but his efforts seemed futile. Because the air in the room was hot, not just his body, it would inevitably become sweltering again soon.
“Is it very hot, Your Excellency? Should I turn on the cooling system?”
“You can, but I am afraid it will be cold later.”
“Then I will go get a blanket for you.”
“Let us go to the bedroom; it is more convenient,” Sirius mentioned casually.
From the moment they met until now, the female had not sensed anything was wrong. In fact, this was perfectly normal. The Zerg placed great importance on reproduction, and for an unmarried adult female, certain pre-marital behaviors were common. This was why Sirius had initially thought Julian was being quite bold. It was a universal phenomenon; aside from protecting hatchlings, the Zerg had very few moral concepts.
Therefore, Lex completely failed to realize that the male before him was not engaging in intimacy because he was reluctant to see Lex leave tomorrow.
He was there to break off the engagement.
Who would have thought that a male willing to wait through an engagement would go back on his word? Does a male need to notify someone in person to break a contract?
The old-fashioned, conservative female noticed nothing. He simply thought the dear young male could not bear their long separation and had come specifically to find him. Thus, even a bug as traditional as Lex was willing to make an exception for him.
With a heart full of tenderness that words could not express, Lex’s tall body curled up as he leaned against Sirius’s chest, quietly listening to his heartbeat. He did not do anything intentionally, but this alone was enough.
Sirius leaned into his ear, almost talking to himself. “Did you just say that you wanted to please me?”
The female nodded without hesitation. “Yes, Your Excellency.”
He wanted to please him? Was he trying to please him so that he would not break the engagement? It was a simple, lovely thought.
It should not have worked. Sirius would not change his mind that easily.
However, the male’s voice held a hint of indulgent seduction. “Is that so? I am curious. What do you plan to do?”
Those despicable Zerg genes were acting up again. He did not refuse, but he did not agree either. He simply watched the female’s next move without promising anything, driven entirely by genetic instinct.
Sirius tilted his head back and sighed. “Your eyes are truly beautiful, Lex.”
The female blinked his golden eyes and blushed, offering a small smile. It was not a wide grin, but his entire being seemed to become more vivid and full of life.
There were many S-rank and higher females in the military. As the next captain selected by the Military Mainframe, Lex being SSS-rank was essential. Unlike Julian, who was only A-rank, Lex and Sirius could spend a long time together. Sirius had plenty of patience. They could try many new and strange things together.
Lex spent a rather difficult night.
The male had a wicked sense of humor. He would ask Lex questions but then deliberately interfere just as Lex tried to speak, preventing him from answering. At the same time, Sirius would lean sadly against Lex’s shoulder and accuse him of being cold.
The female clearly noticed these mischievous actions but had no way to stop them. Or rather, he did not want to stop them. He allowed Sirius to lie against his chest, and in that situation, Lex even had to hum to coax him, nearly singing a lullaby.
He was a very bad male, but there was no helping it; he was so charming. Lex thought that even if the male were a hundred times worse, many bugs would still fall in love with him. Fortunately, the male had chosen him.
A smile remained on the female’s lips as he leaned forward, loosely circling the male. Both the females and males were quite tall, and the higher the rank, the more statuesque the Zerg became. Sirius was naturally not short. However, the physical constitution of a female is generally stronger than that of a male, which is even more apparent in military females. Therefore, while Sirius was taller than Julian, he could not compare to Lex. The military female could almost envelop him entirely.
Lex felt it was a pity that although Zerg nights are long, their departure time was far too early. The artificial sun was diligent, rising at 7:00 AM and setting at 7:00 PM every day without fail. The Seventh Fleet, which had to set out early in the morning, had to leave the Central Star exactly as the sun rose.
By 5:00 AM, Lex, as the Vice-Captain, had finished preparing. Fortunately, the pregnancy sac is a unique reproductive organ in Zerg evolution. It is quite miraculous; if no implantation occurs, it absorbs its contents as nutrients. After implantation, it becomes nourishment for the egg.
Thus, he did not need to waste much time. He only had to wait for it to digest. He even had time to stop in front of the male and gingerly kiss him on the forehead.
The male was sleeping deeply. After all, it was still very early, and they had indeed talked a lot last night. They had said many things and done many things.
A male’s mental power has many uses: connecting dialogue, communicating with eggs, improving memory, increasing reaction speed, and most importantly, raising one’s threshold of sensation. Therefore, in certain aspects, they have more endurance than females. The higher the grade of the male, the more this is true. When facing a high-level female with extreme physical strength, the two can coordinate with perfect unspoken understanding, especially a male like Sirius. His mental power was significantly higher than that of an average bug, a fact Lex had briefly experienced the night before.
Alas.
After standing beside Sirius for a while without him opening his eyes, Lex could not tell if he was disappointed that he could not say goodbye or relieved that he had not woken him up. In the end, he could only cover his lower abdomen and leave silently.
In the dim room, the male remained buried in the blankets, entirely unaware of the female’s complex emotions.
When he finally opened his eyes again, it was already 4:00 PM.
Clearly, His Excellency had skipped work for the entire day. There were cautious concerns from female colleagues, puzzled inquiries from male colleagues, and, of course, the sweet and nervous expectations of his lover.
“Master, how did it go? That military female did not make things difficult for you, did he?”
A moment later, Julian sent a set of photos of himself. Perhaps sensing something, he tentatively continued.
“I forgot to bring clothes again today, so I have to leave wearing your shirt. Do you think this one looks good on me?”
“I am going home now. Since you are not here, if I do not leave, the management robot will kick me out. But it is really cold at home. I am used to having you by my side, and now it feels so strange. I want to live with you legally.”
“Goodnight, Lord Sirius.”
“Good morning, Your Excellency. Can I invite you to lunch?”
“Good afternoon, Your Excellency. Where are you? Can I come to the Research Institute to find you? I promise I will be careful. I will not let other bugs know about us until you agree.”
Julian had said quite a lot. It was obvious he was on edge and restless, but Sirius was in no mood to reply to him.
What is the difference between a human and a bug? Is it the simple moral sense of a human? Or is it the way a Zerg naturally indulges in primal desires? Which side did he belong to?
A human? Then why was he among the Zerg, possessing mental power and extra organs? But if he was a Zerg, what did the memories of his past human life mean?
What should he do?
Sirius pulled the blanket over his head and curled onto his side. He emptied his thoughts, forcing himself not to overthink and not to question his own existence. He lowered his gaze, focusing only on the present.
The problem he faced now was that he still had not broken off the engagement. There had been no chance to say it last night; he would have to wait until the next time.
As for why he did not say it over the optical computer? That would be too crude and irresponsible. He was the one who applied for it, he was the one who wanted to go back on his word, and he was the one who had possessed the female.
But that was just how he was. He was supposed to be a bug who went back on his word and was driven by profit and desire.
Sirius clenched his fists, letting his mind grow heavy amidst the chaotic ache. He never touched his optical computer again.
Just go to sleep.
Perhaps it was because he had stayed up too late last night. He would just sleep. When he woke up, everything would be better, just as it had been countless times before.
