- Transmigrated into the Zerg Race: Didn't We Agree to Call Off the Engagement?
- Chapter 1 - The Beautiful Bug at Home
Who to choose?
In his past life, Sirius was a human. When he first opened his eyes after death, a rift appeared before him. A group of humanoid creatures were cheering and jumping with joy, shouting that a “Male” had been born.
He had become a male Zerg. Twenty years had passed since then, and he had clearly adapted to this world because he had to.
Naturally, he was prepared to marry a military female. She was a Triple-S rank soldier and a future fleet captain, making her a perfect match for him.
But now, he was facing a bit of a dilemma.
It happened one evening after a gathering of males. Sirius was slightly tipsy when he spotted an equally intoxicated, beautiful female Zerg at his doorstep. Sirius recognized him; it was Julian, a famous celebrity female.
At the time, Julian seemed to have mistaken the room for his own. He was trying to use facial recognition on Sirius’s door, but since it would not open, his face was filled with grievance.
As Sirius walked over, the door opened automatically. Julian piteously grabbed the hem of his clothes, head drooping in disappointment, and stumbled right into his arms. The two entered the room one after the other, and the following events were predictable.
Julian was a superstar who perfectly fit the male aesthetic, so much so that countless females competed to imitate him. Sirius did not think Julian was an innocent type from a conservative family, so he did not refuse his advances. To his surprise, it was actually Julian’s first time.
The first time for a female Zerg feels different in the pregnancy sac. It transformed entirely for Sirius, constantly catering to him. Only then did Sirius realize, in hindsight, that things were getting complicated. However, having reached that point and facing the passionate and beautiful Julian, it seemed no bug should refuse.
Under Julian’s meticulous cooperation, the atmosphere reached its peak. In a moment of distraction, Sirius agreed to Julian’s plea to break off his engagement with his fiancé and marry Julian instead.
So, he now had two fiancés. However, in Zerg society, he could only have one Female Monarch, or legal spouse.
A Female Monarch is protected by law and shares the male’s status. Even if the male loses interest or grows to dislike them later, he must still produce a male egg with the Female Monarch and care for every egg they have.
Sirius knew he should break off one of the engagements. But should he reject the military officer he had a long-standing agreement with, or the seductive Julian?
He did not know. But he thought to himself that as a male, he surely did not need to follow through on every promise. Since he was now a bug, he should no longer have to follow human morality.
4:00 PM.
“Are you heading off, Sirius?”
Sirius, who was just about to leave, paused. A smile played on his lips as he stepped back. The door that had opened automatically slid shut, and two single-seater sofas drifted over at the sound.
“Yes, Lord Feinte.”
Sirius sat on the sofa and looked at the other male. His own black hair, usually crisp and soft, was a bit messy, with strands jumping out of place.
His deep pupils flickered with a smile. The massive artificial sun shone through the glass, casting warm, comfortable light into the room. His eyes, which usually looked black, now shimmered with a sharp glint, revealing their true color: a deep sea blue.
It was magnificent and radiant, yet it was the only thing that did not look like his original human self.
Sirius smiled. “I did not run into you today, so I have not had the chance to speak with you. Congratulations on obtaining your first male son.”
Sirius tilted his head slightly. The shifting shadows firmly masked the blue in his eyes, making them look black again.
“Oh, thank you, Sirius. You are always so considerate, keeping our affairs in mind.” Feinte pressed his hands together, looking quite moved.
The sofas carried both of them to the coffee table in the hall. A robot servant offered sweet honey water and fruit. As they sat opposite each other, a gentle smile graced Sirius’s refined features.
Sirius appeared very patient, quietly listening to Feinte explain how to communicate with a male egg and the differences between male and female eggs. Finally, he watched as the elder male, acting like a seasoned expert, earnestly told him which positions were most likely to result in a male child.
He thought to himself that these were boring bugs.
“I truly thank you for your generous help, my dear Feinte. I believe this will be of great use to me.”
“No need for such formality, Sirius. I hope you get a male son soon as well.” The older male laughed and winked at him. “I remember you have an engagement with a military officer. That is a very old-fashioned ceremony. It seems you like him very much? Why not marry soon so you can have a hatchling earlier?”
The curve of Sirius’s lips faltered slightly, but he quickly widened his smile, looking genuinely happy as he naturally skipped the first part of the question.
“He is in the Seventh Fleet. As you know, after filing a marriage application with the Mainframe, there is a three-month cohabitation period. They are about to go on an interstellar patrol, so there is not enough time.”
The Zerg had eleven fleets in total. Usually, three fleets took turns patrolling, which was essentially going out to pick and choose treasures to steal. Seven fleets guarded the vast Zerg star system, and one acted as a floating reserve.
Lex was the future captain of the Seventh Fleet, appointed after the War Mainframe’s genetic matching and internal competitions within the fleet. To prevent a lapse in command if a captain was lost, any ship on an external mission had to carry the next-in-line captain, also known as the Vice-Captain.
To marry, one had to apply to the Central Mainframe and pass a three-month compatibility period before the marriage became official. If the period was not completed, it remained just an agreement. This was the situation Sirius was in.
Few males had the patience to wait that long for a female, as it made them feel undervalued. Therefore, to outsiders, it seemed Sirius was deeply in love with that female.
Feinte recalled Sirius’s words. “So that is how it is. No wonder you are only engaged. By the way, I remember fleets 7, 8, and 9 are the ones going out this time.”
“That is right. I wonder what fun things they will find this time,” Sirius remarked casually. Feinte had a sudden realization; he struck his left palm with his right fist, and his eyes lit up.
He set his honey water back on the table, stood up quickly, and smiled at Sirius.
“Thank you so much! I almost forgot that I should also marry another military female. I will have him look for some interesting things during the patrol to give to my little hatchling as a birth gift.”
In the Zerg world, the female-to-male ratio was ten to one. This disparity made polygyny the norm. Under the guise of being noble and important, males were barred from the military. They could only access those resources by marrying military females.
Perhaps this was the origin of the saying that every male should marry a soldier.
Feinte had just secured a male egg but had not married a soldier yet. To find a suitable gift for the newborn, he was clearly willing to invest a lot.
The male bug hurried away, leaving Sirius alone. His expression turned cold as he drained the honey water. The smile vanished, and he stood up to leave.
To ensure their safety, males were allowed to leave work an hour earlier than females. Thus, no one saw the current expression of the usually mild-tempered, gentle male. He looked cold, mocking, and aloof, as if the creatures before him were not his own kind. But then again, he was a male Zerg now.
“Master.”
When Sirius returned home, a young female Zerg wearing his shirt rushed forward to wrap his arms around the male’s neck. They sat together on the living room sofa.
The female’s platinum-blonde hair spilled out, sliding smoothly over the male’s jaw. A pair of emerald-green eyes watched him without blinking, and he smiled sweetly.
“Welcome home.”
Julian’s brilliant smile caused Sirius to relax slightly. He gently patted the back of the female’s neck to soothe him. Julian leaned quietly against his shoulder, and his voice was light.
“Master, when will you file the marriage application with the Mainframe?”
The female’s hair rubbed against him, making Sirius feel a bit itchy. He leaned back imperceptibly. Julian, who was straddling his lap, froze for a moment. Sensing something, he lifted his head, moved closer, and affectionately rubbed his nose against Sirius’s cheek.
“After we marry, I can move in to stay with you. I want to see you every day. Do you not miss me?”
Julian rubbed against him suggestively. One hand dropped from Sirius’s shoulder, slid down his spine, and coiled around the male’s tail hook, circling the area covered in chitinous armor.
Male Zerg cannot undergo full body transformation; this was their only piece of external armor.
Sirius let out a low hum and reached out to hold the female’s waist. “The Seventh Fleet has been very busy lately. I have not broken the engagement with him yet. You will have to wait a bit longer.”
“How much longer? You will not go back on your word, will you?”
“Julian,” Sirius paused. “Are you blaming me?”
There was no obvious change in the male’s tone, but Julian panicked almost instantly. “Of course not. I am just afraid you do not like me or do not want to marry me anymore.”
Julian’s voice carried a hint of a sob as he piteously pressed his forehead against Sirius’s shoulder.
Sirius did not speak. He stood up abruptly. The female sitting on his lap was suddenly suspended in mid-air and instinctively wrapped his legs around Sirius’s waist, clutching him tighter as if afraid of falling. The male laughed lowly.
“Cowardly bug. If you are so brave, how did you dare to seduce me in the first place?”
Clearly, everything that happened at their first meeting had been meticulously prepared by the female. There were no such things as coincidences; he had come to entice Sirius on purpose. For an A-rank female to dare pursue an S-rank male, he was clearly incredibly bold.
Sirius idly patted Julian’s back, and Julian rubbed against his chest devotedly. Julian thought to himself that Sirius was truly such a kind male. If he were not, why would he have bothered with an engagement?
He thought the engagement was ridiculous. To think a Zerg would actually bother with an engagement; that military female was a fool for leaving such a good male like Sirius behind. But it was for the best, as it only made things easier for a calculating female like himself.
The kind Lord Sirius was even willing to give a bug like him a chance. As for that soldier, missing an opportunity deserves punishment. He would be the one to teach that soldier how to actually seize an opportunity.
Julian hummed twice, tightening his grip on the male, which earned him a heavy swat from Sirius.
“Master! You said you would not hit me if I was obedient. You are a liar.”
Tears welled up in the female’s green eyes. One hand covered the spot where he had been hit as he looked at Sirius reproachfully. Yet, his body remained clingy, rubbing against the male as he pressed his moist, crimson lips toward him.
They fell onto the bed.
As the kiss ended, the male’s hot breath fell upon the reddened corners of the female’s eyes. Before Sirius could move further, Julian was already being proactive, guiding Sirius’s tail hook toward its destination.
The cold, black-blue tail hook was a part of the male’s body, making it very flexible. Sirius held it steady as their breaths separated slightly.
“I am starting to wonder if you are impatient to have me or if you are thinking about something else.”
The tip of the hook was carefully controlled. What was usually a decorative feature now served many purposes, wandering carelessly. The legs around Sirius’s waist tightened further.
Julian looked aggrieved. “That is a huge injustice. It is all you, so why divide it? I just like you and want to see you. Is that not allowed? It is so unfair for you to say those things to tempt me.”
Sirius’s clothes had already been made a mess by the piteous female. With a wave of his hand, the male pulled a blanket over both of them.
Faced with Sirius’s accusation, Julian stole a glance at him. Seeing that Sirius was not actually angry, his courage grew, and he climbed higher onto the male’s shoulders.
“Julian is just that cruel. Does Master like it?”
He was a bug who was very clear about his own ambitions. He was good at performing and was very proactive. Generally speaking, he was indeed very good at pleasing males, including Sirius.
Sirius narrowed his eyes, letting his cold tail hook find a warm place to nestle. It curled up, wagging like a cat’s tail as it warmed. Since they were both creatures with tails, it was only natural to wag them when happy; otherwise, what would be the point?
Looking at the radiant Julian, and just before his next move, the male mischievously leaned into his ear. “I like it very much. I like Julian very much. So, I think I will go break the engagement with Lex tonight. What do you think?”
Immediately following those words, Julian’s eyes went blank with bliss.
