Transmigrated into the Scumbag Ex-Wife of the Prime Minister - Chapter 1
After a deafening explosion, Lu Sheng lost consciousness.
“A-Niang (Mother)…”
Amidst her blurry consciousness, she seemed to hear the crying of a child.
Her vision suddenly cleared, and the blinding light made Lu Sheng feel a little disoriented.
She hadn’t seen the sun since the apocalypse.
Lu Sheng squinted, enjoying the warm sunshine.
She hadn’t expected the world after death to also have a sun.
The weight on her leg pulled her back to her senses. Lu Sheng looked down to see a little girl, two or three years old, hugging her calf.
Seeing her look over, the little girl whimpered in a soft, sweet voice, “A-Niang, A…”
Her round eyes were filled with panic, tears welling up, but she was fiercely holding them back.
“Are you selling or not!”
With this sharp female voice, a rough hand reached out towards the little girl’s arm.
The small body began to tremble. She desperately clung to Lu Sheng’s pants, her voice thick with sobs, “A-Niang…”
Lu Sheng slapped the hand away, picked up the child, and whispered, “Don’t be afraid.”
She took a step back and looked at the owner of the hand, who was wearing a rough ancient-style garment.
Lu Sheng frowned and looked around.
This was a somewhat dilapidated ancient courtyard.
Her sharp gaze fell upon the person opposite her, and Lu Sheng’s tone was icy: “Not selling.”
“N-Not selling, why are you asking!” The woman was momentarily stunned, her aggressive demeanor slightly diminished. She waved her hand impatiently to shoo them away, “Go, go, go, if you’re not selling, hurry up and leave!”
Stepping out of the courtyard gate, looking at the streets with their ancient charm and the pedestrians coming and going, Lu Sheng truly confirmed that she was not dead but had traveled to another time and space.
Urgent footsteps sounded behind her. Someone violently yanked Lu Sheng’s shoulder. Just as she turned her head, a gust of wind swept past, and Lu Sheng quickly took a step back.
If she hadn’t reacted in time, she would have been fiercely slapped by the person who had arrived.
“Beast!”
The voice was as cold as a mountain valley in winter, as if the angry, frigid wind would howl out the next second.
Lu Sheng subconsciously wanted to fight back, but after seeing the person clearly, the hand she had raised halfway was lowered.
The person in front of her was truly too beautiful.
The woman was tall and slender, with a clear and elegant appearance. Her black hair was tied up with a cyan ribbon, and her white long shirt was embroidered with light green bamboo.
Having lived in the apocalypse for many years, accustomed to seeing messy-haired, unkempt people, Lu Sheng felt that this person was graceful and transcendent, like a celestial being.
Fine sweat beaded on the woman’s smooth forehead, and the wisps of hair at her temples were also damp. A drop of sweat traced along her jawline, slid past her fair neck, and disappeared into the collar.
Her breathing was rapid, and her chest rose and fell. Lu Sheng felt her throat dry up, “You…”
The woman stepped forward. The distance between them was less than half a meter. Lu Sheng’s eyes were drawn to the faint red mole on her side neck. The mole was extremely light, yet Lu Sheng saw it immediately.
A faint, cold fragrance assailed her. All the words Lu Sheng hadn’t spoken were stuck in her throat, and her heart pounded like a drum.
“Mother.” The soft voice held surprise.
Lu Sheng looked at the child in her arms with confusion.
In the instant she looked down, the child in her arms had already been scooped up by the person opposite her. Lu Sheng quickly grabbed her arm.
“Let go.” Her tone was even colder, her eyes like the wind and snow of deep winter.
Lu Sheng frowned but didn’t let go.
The woman’s attitude towards her made Lu Sheng feel that this person must know the body she was currently in.
The woman’s eyes were full of indignation, and she enunciated each word: “Lu, Sheng.”
As expected, they knew each other.
Lu Sheng looked at the child. The child nestled in the woman’s embrace, her hands intimately wrapped around her neck.
Some fragmented images suddenly flashed through her mind.
It must be the memories of this body.
The original owner shared the same name as her. The woman in front of her was the original owner’s wife, Qi Zhenshu. She was sold to the Lu family when she was a teenager. After the original owner came of age at sixteen, they got married, and Qi Zhenshu became the ‘live-in son-in-law’ of the Lu family.
The child in Qi Zhenshu’s arms, the one she had almost sold, was their daughter, Lu Qi, nicknamed Tangtang, who was three years old this year.
The images were too fragmented, and Lu Sheng had only managed to connect some memories for now.
Transmigrating overnight, going from a single person to a married one and suddenly becoming a mother, Lu Sheng found it a bit difficult to process.
Her gaze fell on Qi Zhenshu’s face. When she thought that this person was now technically her wife, Lu Sheng couldn’t help but feel a flush of heat on her face.
Lu Sheng gave an awkward smile and let go.
The moment her hand dropped, Qi Zhenshu didn’t spare her another glance and walked away with the child in her arms.
Lu Sheng quickly followed.
She hadn’t recalled much yet, and everything here was strange to her. Lu Sheng had no choice but to observe the surrounding environment as she walked.
The main road was paved with flagstones, lined with shops. The better ones were made of brick, but there were also wooden and stone houses.
Based on the clothing of the people on the road, Lu Sheng guessed this should be a small town.
After walking for about half an hour, a high rammed-earth wall appeared before them. The road led straight to a wooden gate in the middle of the wall.
Lu Sheng followed Qi Zhenshu through the city gate. A wanted poster for mountain bandits was posted on the earthen wall of the gate.
The characters on the wanted poster were similar to the traditional Chinese characters from Lu Sheng’s original era, but the dynasty and reign title were not from recorded history.
Xi Liang Kingdom, Changlong Year Two (Changlong 2nd year).
This place was called Binhe County.
Outside the county town, the road was dirt, and the houses along the way became increasingly simpler, with even adobe and thatched cottages appearing.
Not long after leaving the city, they came across an east-west flowing river.
Lu Sheng walked along the river and used the water’s surface to see her current appearance. She looked very similar to her original self, just a bit more rounded.
She was wearing a cotton ruqun (a set of upper and lower garments), which was not bad compared to the clothes of the people in the county town, but the peach-red color made Lu Sheng cringe.
However, Lu Sheng noticed that while the clothes on this body were decent, there was no gold, silver, or jewelry whatsoever.
She walked along the river for almost an hour. The person ahead had neither stopped nor looked back at Lu Sheng, only Tangtang kept secretly glancing back from time to time.
The high sky and light clouds, the beautiful mountains and rivers, and the long-lost fresh air all lifted Lu Sheng’s spirits.
In the distance, she saw a village, and Qi Zhenshu’s steps also slowed down.
At the entrance of the village stood an old, crooked-neck tree with flourishing branches and leaves. A few small groups of people were sitting under the tree. A couple of them, upon seeing them, gathered and began whispering among themselves.
The sound of hooves rapidly approached. A carriage sped from the opposite direction of the road. Lu Sheng moved to the side to avoid it.
The curtain of the carriage was lifted by the wind, revealing the side profile of the person inside.
It was a woman, whose hair was elegantly coiled up, and her profile was dignified and beautiful.
This face looked somewhat familiar to Lu Sheng, perhaps someone the original owner knew.
Qi Zhenshu walked through the entire village and entered a courtyard with stone walls.
Lu Sheng did not follow her in. She stood outside the gate and carefully observed the layout of the village.
The village was high in the south and low in the north. To the south were mountains, and to the north was the large river they had followed. The entire village stretched east-west along the river.
The house was located on the south side of the village, on the high ground adjacent to the slope. Standing at the gate, one could see most of the village.
There were a few scattered households around the house, but not many.
The courtyard gate was open, the ground was paved with bluestone slabs, and there was one blue-brick house on the south side, and one each on the east and west sides.
Based on Lu Sheng’s observations along the way, this house was considered one of the better ones in the village.
However, the empty courtyard had nothing but the houses.
The house on the south side had three rooms. Qi Zhenshu came out of the east room carrying a bedroll.
Seeing Lu Sheng, she frowned slightly and said in a cold tone, “From now on, Tangtang and I will sleep in the East Wing.”
Having said that, she went into the house without waiting for a reply.
The moment Qi Zhenshu turned around, the red mole on her neck and shoulder unintentionally fell into Lu Sheng’s eyes again.
In Nanxi County, she had already seen many intimate same-sex couples. Thinking about their current relationship, a subtle feeling arose in Lu Sheng’s heart.
The sun was setting in the west, and Lu Sheng’s stomach began to rumble. She fumbled around and found the kitchen.
The kitchen stove had two cooking eyes, and pots, bowls, and utensils were complete, but she saw no ingredients.
After searching around, Lu Sheng only found one radish and some coarse rice.
Having survived in the wilderness, making a fire was not difficult for her.
After starting the rice to steam, Lu Sheng casually chopped the radish into pieces and threw them into the pot.
Flap, flap, flap.
‘Stinky cat, if you want to catch this lord, try the next life!’
A white shadow flashed past, straight into the chimney of the stove, and was about to fall into the pot of stewing radish.
Lu Sheng was quick, immediately covering the pot.
‘Ouch! Hot! Hot! Hot!’
‘This lord’s butt is on fire!’
‘The feathers on my butt will all be burned off, a naked-butt bird is too ugly.’
A white parrot bounced off the pot lid, fluttering its wings and chirping non-stop.
Lu Sheng chuckled, teasingly, “You’re a bird, what’s there to be vain about?”
The chirping suddenly stopped. The parrot landed on the stove, tilting its head to size up Lu Sheng. It called out softly, ‘You can understand what this lord is saying!’
“That’s bird calls, not talking,” Lu Sheng poked the orange cheek patch feathers on its face. She could indeed understand bird language.
When the apocalypse came, strange phenomena occurred frequently, and many people evolved abilities.
One of Lu Sheng’s abilities was being able to understand the calls of birds.
The parrot lifted one claw, gripped Lu Sheng’s finger, and chirped excitedly, ‘You ordinary human, you really can understand this lord’s words.’
It raised its head, puffed out its small chest, and hopped onto the back of Lu Sheng’s hand, following her finger.
‘This lord is the famous General Feather Plume. Since you can understand my general’s words, then it is my great honor to accept you as my personal guard. From now on, this general will protect you, and you will take this general to enjoy good food…’
“Thank you for the high regard, but this humble one cannot accept the honor,” Lu Sheng said with a smile, raising her hand to flick the pretentious ‘General Feather Plume’ away. “Go slowly, now.”
‘Hey, hey, hey, meeting is fate, Miss. We met in this vast world.’ The parrot flew back to Lu Sheng’s hand, rubbing her hand with the plumes on its head. ‘Fate is truly marvelous, I, Little Feather, salute you here.’
“Get aside.” Lu Sheng disdainfully pushed it away and turned to check the pot.
The parrot fluttered twice and pressed itself back onto Lu Sheng’s hand, tilting its head to look at her, ‘Saving a bird’s life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda, hero, save my life!’
The radish chunks were already translucent. Lu Sheng grabbed a pinch of salt and threw it in.
‘Little Feather has run away from home and is homeless. Please, Big Sister, take me in. Just give me some food, and Little Feather will work like an ox or a horse to repay you.’ The parrot looked at the radish in the pot and hugged Lu Sheng’s hand with its wings.
“Can you plow fields or drive a carriage?”
Lu Sheng glanced at it lightly, her peripheral vision catching the doorway.
Qi Zhenshu was walking towards the kitchen. Lu Sheng immediately put away her look of distaste. She put the lid back on the pot and stood meekly by the stove.
‘Beauty, beauty.’
The parrot whistled. Lu Sheng immediately pressed it down onto the stove.
“What are you doing?” Qi Zhenshu didn’t notice Lu Sheng’s small movement, only frowned as she looked at the stove.
“C-Cooking.” Why was Lu Sheng stammering? She tugged at the hem of her skirt and explained, her face slightly flushed, “I’m a little hungry.”
“You made it?” Her tone was flat, but Lu Sheng still heard the suspicion.
“Yes. Do you want to eat with me?” Lu Sheng asked softly.
“No, Tangtang wants noodles.” She said, glancing at the stove.
Lu Sheng understood what she meant and quickly said, “I’ll take the rice out as soon as it’s done.”
Qi Zhenshu said no more, just nodded slightly, and left.
The parrot crawled out from under Lu Sheng’s hand, preening its feathers with its beak, chirping unhappily.
‘Ouch, my feathers are all bent. Little Feather is no longer the prettiest bird in the world.’
Lu Sheng ignored it, turned to scoop out the radish from the pot. She washed the pot again, poured in water, and used a piece of wood to block one of the stove eyes.
‘Poor Little Feather, I’ve been hungry for three days and three nights.’
It opened its right wing to cover its head, lifted one claw, turned it side to side twice, and flopped onto the stove with its belly up.
This bird was truly a spirit.
Lu Sheng deliberately ignored it, carrying the food out, and casually asked, “Do you want radish or rice?”
‘Both!’
The parrot flipped over in a whoosh, quick as an arrow leaving the bow, and landed on Lu Sheng’s shoulder.
The dining room was next to the kitchen. The room, like the courtyard, was empty, with only a table, chairs, and benches for eating.
Seeing the marks on the floor tiles, Lu Sheng thought that there must have been other furniture in this room originally, and that furniture had been moved out recently.
Stewed radish and coarse rice, the most ordinary meal, but both the person and the bird ate with great satisfaction.
The parrot, which had promised to work like an ox or a horse, disappeared after eating.
Lu Sheng didn’t mind. She washed the bowls and watched Qi Zhenshu carry a bowl of noodles to the East Wing.
She wiped her hands, thinking about what to do next. Just as she walked into the courtyard, the front gate was banged on loudly.
As soon as Lu Sheng pulled the door bolt, the wooden door was forcefully shoved open.
Standing outside the door were six burly men, all with angry, glaring eyes. They clearly meant trouble.
