- Chapter 34 (END OF MAINSTORY)
Within the illusion, Han Xuejin once again saw her past self perish alongside the hypocrites from the various sects.
Then, she was forced to watch Zhu Changxuan die again. The emotional shock caused her spiritual energy to surge uncontrollably.
No, this isn’t real. She had to escape and save Changxuan.
Outside the illusion, Zhu Changxuan coughed up blood. An Xi, having grown tired of playing with him, was just about to strike the final blow.
At that moment, Han Xuejin’s spiritual energy erupted. She broke through to the early Mahayana stage and snapped out of the illusion.
When she saw Zhu Changxuan barely standing, her eyes turned blood-red and her demonic power intensified.
She raised Qianpo and instantly appeared in front of An Xi, sending a flurry of ice blades toward him.
An Xi was surprised for a moment. “She actually broke through to Mahayana? Hmph. So this is the chosen one? Even if you’ve reached Mahayana, you’re still going to die today.”
He didn’t dodge. He summoned the Sha Blade and shattered all of her ice blades with a single swing.
He then launched a fierce series of attacks. Han Xuejin barely managed to block them. As he struck again with greater force, she was thrown backward, crashing out of the main hall and coughing up blood.
An Xi followed her out and looked down at the weakened Han Xuejin. He shouted mockingly, “So you just broke through to Mahayana. Do you really think you can defeat me? I’m the true chosen one, the one destined to ascend through the tribulation. I’m going to ascend, do you understand?”
Han Xuejin slowly stood up, using Qianpo for support. Her gaze was cold and unwavering.
An Xi saw no fear on her face and grew furious.
He charged forward and released a wave of deadly energy that filled the air with a suffocating pressure.
He struck her repeatedly. Han Xuejin used the Wuji technique to block the blows but was eventually knocked to the ground. The tiles beneath her shattered, and she was on the verge of losing consciousness.
“Die!”
An Xi roared, releasing a massive burst of spiritual energy. The pressure was so great that surrounding buildings cracked. The people trapped in the illusion groaned in pain but remained unconscious and unable to wake up.
Just as An Xi’s fatal strike was about to land on the helpless Han Xuejin, Zhu Changxuan suddenly appeared in front of her and took the full impact of the blow. His sword, Mo Ting, shattered completely.
Han Xuejin’s eyes widened in shock as she watched Zhu Changxuan cough up blood and fall to his knees in front of her.
Her heart ached as if it had been torn apart. She cried out desperately, “Changxuan!”
She stumbled over to him, barely able to stand.
Zhu Changxuan could no longer speak. His eyes gradually lost their light. In his final thought, filled with sorrow, he regretted that he still could not protect the one he loved.
Han Xuejin knelt and held Zhu Changxuan tightly. Tears filled her eyes. “Changxuan…”
Why? Why again? Why couldn’t she protect him? Why did he have to collapse right in front of her again?
Her tears fell silently. If that’s how it must be, then she would go with him.
An Xi saw the pained expression on Han Xuejin’s face and grinned with pleasure.
“Yes, that’s it. The more you suffer, the happier I become. This is what I live for.”
Far beyond the Nine Heavens, in the starry sky, the High Goddess had been sleeping. But the trace of spirit energy merged into her body suddenly grew warm, awakening her in surprise.
She opened her eyes, sensing something unusual, then closed them again. In an instant, she vanished from the stars.
In the spiritual sea of the unconscious Zhu Changxuan, the calm lake suddenly erupted with violent waves. The High Goddess, who had been in the stars just a moment before, emerged from the lake.
Zhu Changxuan lay sleeping on the surface of the lake.
The High Goddess took control of his body. When she opened her eyes again, she was looking at the lawless attacker before her.
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re seriously disturbed?”
It was Zhu Changxuan’s voice, but there was no emotion in it. It was calm, cold, and unreadable.
Han Xuejin should have been relieved that Changxuan had regained consciousness, but the emptiness in his eyes startled her.
Zhu Changxuan stood up straight and broke free from Han Xuejin, who was still kneeling and holding on to him.
In that instant, Han Xuejin panicked. She grabbed the hem of his robe and called out, “Changxuan?”
Zhu Changxuan did not respond. He calmly stared at An Xi.
An Xi was stunned to see Zhu Changxuan still standing after receiving his fatal blow. And now he dared to challenge him?
What was going on? But he sensed no real change in Zhu Changxuan’s energy. He wasn’t afraid, just furious.
“Everyone who speaks to me like that ends up dead.”
“Oh? Then allow me to teach you why that attitude is wrong.”
An Xi said nothing.
Han Xuejin also remained silent.
An Xi suddenly launched an attack at Zhu Changxuan. Han Xuejin struggled to stand, trying to shield him.
But Zhu Changxuan extended a hand and gently pushed her aside. The hilt of Mo Ting flew into his other hand.
In an instant, the broken pieces of the sword reassembled. A flash of white light burst forth, and Mo Ting was reforged, stronger than ever.
With a simple swing, sword energy sliced through all of An Xi’s demonic aura and struck him directly, sending him flying.
An Xi crashed through the outer wall of the main hall and flew several hundred meters before hitting the ground.
“I really did hold back,” Zhu Changxuan said with a quiet tone of confusion, though his expression remained blank.
Han Xuejin was speechless.
Zhu Changxuan then leapt into the air and appeared before An Xi, who lay far in the distance.
Coughing up blood, An Xi sensed something was terribly wrong. This power was not normal. Damn it. If that’s how it is, then I’ll gamble everything.
He summoned four Nascent Soul cores and forced them into use, calling down heavenly lightning in a desperate attempt to ascend into the Tribulation Stage. Although four cores were weaker than nine, he had no other choice.
He laughed madly. “The lightning tribulation of the Nine Heavens covers a massive area. Even I may not survive it. There’s no way you will. You’re all going to die with me.”
Zhu Changxuan shook her head and said, “Why is it that every word out of your mouth is about death? An Xi, you really deserve to be struck. If you’re so eager to die, I’ll make sure you understand what death truly means.”
An Xi froze. He had never told her his name. How did she know it?
Suddenly, a bolt of heavenly lightning struck down. Zhu Changxuan swung her sword and split it in two.
An Xi stared in disbelief as she effortlessly cut through the lightning. His heart raced. He couldn’t trust his own eyes. He was sure his vision was fine, yet he could not believe what he was seeing.
“How is that possible? How can a weakling like you split heavenly lightning?”
Another bolt fell. Zhu Changxuan once again cleaved it apart with a single swing. Then she looked up, completely emotionless, and shouted toward the sky.
“Stop it. Heaven’s Will, come down here.”
This scene was witnessed by Han Xuejin, who had struggled her way forward using her sword, Qianpo, for support.
The lightning ceased. A glowing orb shot down from the sky like a streak of lightning and hovered in front of Zhu Changxuan. On the surface of the orb, two characters glowed brightly: “Heaven’s Will.”
Han Xuejin stared silently. She knew this wasn’t the right time to joke, but she couldn’t help thinking to herself, “Is it really that afraid someone won’t recognize it as Heaven’s Will?”
An Xi turned pale as he looked at the glowing orb. It was exactly like the fragment of Heaven’s Will he had once glimpsed. His voice trembled.
“You… who are you really?”
Zhu Changxuan replied, “I have no name. But everyone calls me the High Goddess.”
“No… that’s impossible,” An Xi said, his voice full of fear and denial.
The High Goddess didn’t explain further. She found this lawless man incredibly dull. With a wave of her hand, she erased An Xi from existence.
Then she grabbed the orb of Heaven’s Will and sensed its condition.
“It’s a little outdated.”
A white light flashed from her hand, and the orb was instantly restored.
“Go.”
The orb vanished and returned to the heavens.
Han Xuejin watched it all and finally understood. The consciousness now in Changxuan’s body was a being greater than even Heaven’s Will.
She limped forward and knelt in front of her.
“I beg you… please return Changxuan to me.”
She could still feel Zhu Changxuan’s presence. That meant she wasn’t dead. There was still hope. Even if there was only the slightest chance, she was willing to humble herself and beg the one now occupying her body.
The High Goddess crouched down to meet her gaze.
“I am Zhu Changxuan. Zhu Changxuan is me. What is there to return?”
Han Xuejin looked into the emotionless eyes of the goddess and lowered her head bitterly. If this was truly Changxuan, why did her gaze no longer carry that warmth and love?
“Changxuan… Senior Sister Zhu… you… the High Goddess. You’re not the same.”
Those words caused a flicker of emotion in the goddess’s long-unmoving expression.
She stood up and extended her hand. A white light enveloped Han Xuejin, healing all of her wounds.
Han Xuejin stared at her in shock.
The High Goddess said, “Here. I return her to you.”
She closed her eyes. In that instant, Zhu Changxuan, who had been sleeping deep within her spiritual sea, suddenly awakened and was expelled.
Zhu Changxuan opened her eyes again, confused. Her injuries were gone, but she didn’t know why. Even more confusing was the sight before her—her beloved kneeling on the ground.
“Xuejin, why are you kneeling? Wait, where’s that twisted lunatic?”
Realizing she had her back, Han Xuejin burst into tears of joy. She leapt forward and hugged her tightly.
“He’s dead!”
Then, without hesitation, she kissed Zhu Changxuan deeply.
Zhu Changxuan’s eyes went wide with shock.
Back beyond the Nine Heavens, the High Goddess quietly reflected on the trace of spiritual energy she had merged with earlier. It had brought unfamiliar emotions with it. She had never directly intervened in the affairs of a small world before. This was the first time.
“Interesting,” she said.
With An Xi gone, all the cultivators trapped in his illusion began to wake up. Realizing the two leaders at the Nascent Soul stage were both dead, they fled from Dinghai Pavilion, abandoning the island in terror.
Zhu Changxuan and Han Xuejin also boarded a flying vessel and returned to the Demon Realm.
But they didn’t stay for long.
Soon, the two of them left again, setting off on a new journey together.
