Transmigrated Into the Body of a Sickly Villain's Kitten - Chapter 5
Fu Rou realized that ever since she transmigrated into a cat, many of her habits had begun to subtly change.
For instance, when she saw a cat tree, she felt the urge to jump and play on it; when she spotted a scratching board, she wanted to use her soft, brittle claws to scratch it. As for the cat teaser…
The moment Fu Rou’s gaze fell on the little butterfly cat teaser, Shi Yao walked over and picked it up, swaying it from side to side. Fu Rou couldn’t resist the impulse and pounced toward the teaser.
But Shi Yao pulled her hand back just in time, causing the little butterfly to bounce upward. Fu Rou ended up grabbing nothing but air.
Shi Yao crouched down halfway, playing with Fu Rou, looking completely relaxed and joyful.
Outside the door, three demons secretly peeked in, revealing only their eyes as they witnessed this heartwarming scene.
They noticed that their usually aloof master was wearing a genuine smile.
The cat inside the room looked strikingly similar to the one Shi Yao had painted long ago, though it appeared much smaller now.
Its body was entirely snow-white, with soft fur, and its pink nose and mouth were so adorable that one couldn’t help but fall in love at first sight.
When it reached for the cat teaser, its little paws wobbled and bumped into each other, melting hearts instantly.
No one could resist the cuteness of a cat.
Liang Zhuo and Ke Fan watched Fu Rou playing with the teaser with envious expressions.
So adorable, they really wanted to pet her.
Guan Jin, however, seemed somewhat worried. She tugged at Liang Zhuo and Ke Fan’s clothes and pulled them out into the courtyard.
“Have you surrendered so quickly? Have you forgotten about the cat from hundreds of years ago?”
At the mention of that time, Liang Zhuo and Ke Fan’s expressions gradually shifted.
Seeing the two slowly snap out of their cat-induced daze, Guan Jin smiled with relief.
“Our master stumbled over a cat hundreds of years ago. As her subordinates, we must not let her repeat the same mistake. We should remind her at the right time not to get too absorbed in doting on the cat. There’s still so much to handle in the yao realm, the backlog of tasks is piling up daily.”
Liang Zhuo sighed softly. “Back then, when the master brought the cat home, she didn’t spoil it like this. She only asked you to take care of it. But this time, she carried it back in her arms, it’s completely different, isn’t it?”
Ke Fan raised a hand to touch his deer antlers, looking rather unconcerned. He chuckled lightly at Guan Jin’s anxious demeanor. “Is someone afraid of repeating their own mistakes? Ever since word got out that the master took in that cat, many from the cultivation world have been sending cats to the back mountain. The master has to clear them out every month. Tell me, whose fault is that?”
Guan Jin’s face flushed instantly at Ke Fan’s sarcastic remark, as if she were both embarrassed and angry. “Fine, it was my mistake! I admit it! But didn’t I resolve it later? Why do you always hold a grudge? My concerns aren’t unfounded, are they? What if this cat is another spy sent by some immortal sect? If the master develops real feelings for her, what are we supposed to do then?”
When the peony demon got angry, a natural floral fragrance wafted from her. Fu Rou felt her mind, which had been captivated by the cat teaser, suddenly clear.
Shi Yao was still waving the teaser, but Fu Rou seemed to have lost interest. She trotted toward the door and happened to see the three demons standing in the courtyard.
They also noticed the little ball of fluff at the doorway and immediately fell silent.
Shi Yao followed behind the cat, raising her eyes to glance at the three glaring light bulbs in the courtyard. Her delicate brows furrowed slightly as she asked, “What do you want?”
The atmosphere around them seemed to instantly turn cold.
Guan Jin’s anger had subsided, and a somewhat eerie, awkward smile appeared on her beautiful, enchanting face. She glanced at the bamboo rat demon and the deer demon on either side of her, then steeled herself and said, “You must have been working hard taking care of the cat every day, Your Majesty. How about letting your subordinate take over? Recently, many petitions have been submitted from various demon clans. If we don’t respond to them for too long, they might think something has happened to you, which could lead to trouble. That wouldn’t be good.”
Shi Yao frowned slightly. Watching the cat walk toward Guan Jin and start pawing at the hem of her pants, a sudden surge of inexplicable irritation rose within her.
She revealed a rare smile and said to Guan Jin, “Alright, it seems she likes you quite a bit. You can take care of her for the time being. I’ll go handle some matters.”
For some reason, Guan Jin felt that the smile on her master’s face was laced with hidden malice.
The cat at her feet was still pawing at her, but when Guan Jin bent down to pet her, the cat dodged away.
Cats really have such strange temperaments.
However, the temperature around them seemed to rise again. When Guan Jin looked at Shi Yao, she noticed a hint of relief in her eyes.
What? Could it be that her mood improved just because the cat wouldn’t let anyone else pet her?
Has the master truly fallen for this cat?
Fu Rou had initially been drawn in by a strange floral fragrance, but for some reason, the scent suddenly vanished. Feeling bored, she noticed the stunningly beautiful woman trying to pet her, so she quickly dodged away.
For some reason, Fu Rou had an instinctive feeling that no one except Shi Yao should be allowed to touch her. She couldn’t explain why.
Shi Yao went to the study, leaving Fu Rou to stare blankly at the three demons. Finding the situation dull, she decided to return to her cat tree to play.
Guan Jin lowered her voice and whispered to the other two demons, “How about this? I’ll go test the waters first and notify you if I find out anything.”
Liang Zhuo nodded, while Ke Fan couldn’t help but chuckle, “Don’t go down the same old path and lose your mind over a cat again.”
“Don’t expect anything good to come out of a deer’s mouth! Go do your own work!”
After the two demons left, Guan Jin took a deep breath and stepped into the room that hadn’t been opened in a long time.
Although Shi Yao was currently sealed on Wuqi Mountain and couldn’t leave freely, the lesser demons still had the ability to go to the foot of the mountain to purchase supplies. Moreover, with the rise of express delivery services and the fact that the barrier set up by the immortal realm around Wuqi Mountain didn’t affect ordinary people, delivery workers could drop off packages at the foot of the mountain. The demons would then use their magic to transport the items up.
It was precisely because of this that, ever since Shi Yao learned how to shop online, she had bought numerous items recommended by internet-famous bloggers as things cats might like.
As a result, the room was filled with all kinds of cat trees, scratching posts, cat beds, and a variety of peculiar and whimsical cat toys.
Some time ago, Shi Yao had asked Guan Jin to tidy up the room, keeping only the toys the kitten could play with and moving the rest to the storage room to be brought out when the cat grew older.
Guan Jin was utterly astonished by this level of boundless indulgence.
She couldn’t disobey the words of the Honored Master, so she left behind some items in the room that were safe for the kitten.
Now, it seemed the cat was indeed having the time of its life.
After Guan Jin entered the room, Fu Rou crouched at the highest point of the cat tree, looking down at this peony demon.
Instinctively, she could sense a mix of love and hatred emanating from this demon. Whether it was a unique feline perception or not, she didn’t know, but when the peony demon approached her, Fu Rou took two steps back.
Guan Jin had indeed suffered greatly because of a cat. Centuries ago, while casually patrolling the back mountain, she had discovered a white cat.
Wuqi Mountain was isolated from the world, brimming with spiritual energy. Even a peony like her could cultivate into human form, let alone other spirits. Having stayed on Wuqi Mountain for so long, she had no idea about the turmoil outside.
Thus, it was only natural that the spirits in the mountain were unaware of Shi Yao’s past and the fact that she had once kept a cat by her side.
When Shi Yao arrived at Wuqi Mountain, many spirits fled due to the oppressive aura she brought with her.
Guan Jin, Liang Zhuo, and Ke Fan were simply fortunate to be able to serve by Shi Yao’s side. Their cultivation methods and progress had improved significantly compared to before.
It was because of this kindness that Guan Jin always felt Shi Yao was too aloof. When she saw the cat on the back mountain, she thought it would be a good idea to bring it back to amuse the Honored Master.
Little did she know it would lead to disaster.
When Shi Yao saw the cat, she was lost in thought for a long time. After a long silence, she finally said, “Since that’s the case, let it stay. You take care of it yourselves.”
Overjoyed, Guan Jin began finding ways to make the cat more noticeable in front of Shi Yao. But later, it turned out she was wrong.
That cat was a spy planted by a certain immortal cultivation sect.
It was there to observe Shi Yao’s actions and find ways to send messages down the mountain, reassuring the immortal sects.
The spy even tried to sow discord: “The evil mermaid goddess is inherently cruel! By staying by her side, you are aiding a tyrant! Aiding a tyrant!!”
Guan Jin swiftly dealt with the spy. From then on, she became extremely wary of cats.
It wasn’t until one full moon night, when Shi Yao had drunk a bit too much, that Guan Jin vaguely overheard her murmuring to herself, revealing that she had once kept a cat.
Later, Guan Jin also saw various scrolls in Shi Yao’s study, all depicting a white cat.
It was beautiful in appearance, proud and adorable in posture.
She must have missed it deeply to have drawn such lifelike paintings.
Guan Jin never brought up the topic of cats again. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, the immortal sects began sending an endless stream of cats to the back mountain.
Gradually, Shi Yao developed a habit: during her monthly period of weakness, she would stroll through the back mountain and expel the cats incapable of cultivation beyond the barrier, sparing their lives.
During Shi Yao’s periods of weakness, Guan Jin was always the most anxious. She constantly felt that the Honored Master was cleaning up the mess she had made, which filled her with guilt.
This cat, personally picked up by Shi Yao, might also be a spy sent by some immortal sect. But its appearance was so strikingly similar that the Honored Master, unable to resist her longing, brought it back, didn’t she?
“No matter which immortal sect sent you as a spy, you’d better not have any improper thoughts. Just stay by the Honored Master’s side and keep her happy. I’ll be watching you every moment, don’t you dare act too presumptuous!”
Fu Rou stealthily climbed down from the shelf, just like before, her little paws tugging at Guan Jin’s pant leg while she meowed incessantly.
“I completely agree with what you said! So, do you have any way to help me leave?!!”
Guan Jin couldn’t understand her; she only felt that this cat was trying to get back at her.
“What are you doing?! I-I admit my tone wasn’t great, and I apologize, okay? As long as you understand what I mean, can we coexist peacefully? Hey, could you stop meowing nonstop? If you keep this up and end up calling the Honored Master over, then I’ll…”
“You’ll what?”
Shi Yao had silently appeared behind Guan Jin. She stepped forward, picked up the cat, and cradled her in her arms, soothing her gently. The cat stopped meowing but showed no particular reaction to Shi Yao.
“It seems she really does like you.”
As she said this, Shi Yao deliberately emphasized the word “really.”
Guan Jin felt a chill run down her spine, her body trembling slightly with a shiver.
