- Transmigrated Into a Scummy Alpha Who Stole the Male Lead's Mermaid Fiancée
- Chapter 7 - The Pearl
In the afternoon, the sunlit lake shimmered with golden ripples as a flock of white swans noisily plunged into the water, displaying their graceful forms on the surface. On the other side of the lake, beneath the willow trees, a group of young girls at a tea party sought shade, swaying on swings while chatting cheerfully.
Yu Ke’s arrival interrupted their conversation. Her cousin, Ai Wei, stepped forward and blocked her path, saying, “Hey, you can’t come here!”
Yu Ke’s eyes immediately fell upon Lan Xing, seated on a swing. Lan Xing glanced sideways at her, her sparkling blue eyes seeming to speak volumes.
“Why can’t I come?” Yu Ke lowered her gaze to Ai Wei, though her peripheral vision remained captivated by the beautiful angel on the swing. She raised an eyebrow and asked, “Tell me the rules here.”
“You’re an Alpha!” Ai Wei scowled. “Don’t disturb our sisters’ gathering!”
“I won’t release any pheromones,” Yu Ke replied.
“Haha, it’s not that we’re afraid of being drawn to your stinky scent, we’re worried you won’t be able to control yourself around so many Omegas!” Ai Wei struck a pose, looking smug. “In such a relaxed setting, if any of us accidentally release pheromones, it might haunt your dreams for months!”
Yu Ke’s gaze lingered like a butterfly alighting on a petal. She stared at Lan Xing and said softly, “Indeed, the most beautiful people in the galaxy are gathered here.”
Lan Xing’s eyelids fluttered slightly, and she turned her face away, gazing at the reflection of the swing on the lake’s surface.
Ai Wei and the other girls burst into laughter, exchanging a few words among themselves. Ai Wei then asked, “Well, who are you here to see?”
Lan Xing cast a distant glance in their direction, while Yu Ke quickly scanned the group and politely inquired, “Is Sang Jiu here?”
The crowd erupted in laughter. “What? She’s interested in the little maid from Panda Planet?”
“Sang Jiu is quite adorable, you know!”
“Sang Jiu! Come over here!”
Sang Jiu, who had been standing guard beside Lan Xing, exchanged a few words with her before reluctantly walking over. She crossed her arms and asked impatiently, “What do you want?”
“I’d like to speak with you. Could you walk with me a little further?” Yu Ke asked courteously.
The onlookers buzzed with gossip, and one of the more mischievous girls pushed Sang Jiu forward. As she walked ahead, she grumbled, “Make it quick!”
After taking just a few steps, Yu Ke overheard the female Omegas whispering among themselves:
“When she complimented us, I actually blushed. Was she saying we’re all beauties here?”
“Yeah, and she even said ‘please’ earlier, so refined…”
“I thought I was the only one imagining things, but she’s really captivating. It’s strange I never noticed her before…”
“Well, after differentiation, Alphas and Omegas rarely interact. Besides, she wasn’t like this before…”
As Yu Ke and Sang Jiu strolled along the lakeside, Yu Ke took out a large pearl and handed it to her. “I found this in the rose garden this morning. I thought it might be yours.”
Sang Jiu glanced at it, surprised. “You found this in the rose garden?”
“Yes,” Yu Ke lied without batting an eye.
She had actually retrieved the pearl from her room, a lustrous, perfectly round gem. She thought to herself, Maybe Sang Jiu will like this pearl. I’ll just say she dropped it.
This was a way to strike up a conversation, Yu Ke had often used such methods in the past to cozy up to people in the circles of fame and fortune.
But Sang Jiu was a sincere person. She picked up the pearl, examined it carefully, and sighed with genuine admiration, “It’s truly beautiful… Pearls like this are rare…”
Yu Ke: “Hmm?”
“This pearl is indeed from Panda Planet, but it doesn’t belong to me. You’ve mistaken it, Princess,” Sang Jiu said, handing the pearl back.
“Is that so?” Yu Ke didn’t take it back, smiling faintly. “Since we can’t find its owner, why don’t you keep it? Consider it a gift from me.”
Sang Jiu’s expression changed instantly. She threw the pearl back at Yu Ke, who caught it with quick reflexes, looking utterly bewildered.
Sang Jiu said coldly, “This is the pearl our princess lost two months ago! How could I possibly accept it?”
Yu Ke: “…”
“You said you found it in the rose garden, but I’ve been there almost every day for the past two months. How come I never found our princess’s precious pearl?” Sang Jiu questioned.
Yu Ke was left speechless. She felt incredibly foolish for using such a self-proclaimed clever method to approach Sang Jiu.
After all, the other party was a mermaid. They never cared for scheming or were blinded by material things. Sincerity was the only way to interact with them.
Anyone with even a slight understanding of mermaids should know this.
Realizing her mistake, Yu Ke apologized, “My fault.”
Sang Jiu gave her a strange look and asked, “Did you really come to me just to return this pearl?”
“Of course not,” Yu Ke smiled, curving her lips. “I was foolish about the pearl matter…”
“Don’t worry about it,” Sang Jiu said. “Our princess has long forgotten about something lost two months ago. There’s no need to return it!”
“Alright,” Yu Ke replied calmly, her gaze fixed on Sang Jiu, her eyelids trembling slightly as she whispered, “Actually, I wanted to ask you why you were so angry with me this morning. Does it… have something to do with the princess?”
Sang Jiu let out a sigh. “Then why didn’t you just ask that directly?”
Yu Ke: “I wasn’t sure if you knew about it.”
Sang Jiu glanced around, first making sure no one was eavesdropping nearby, then puffed up her cheeks, placed her hands on her hips, and whispered through gritted teeth, “Our. Princess. Was. Marked. Isn’t that reason enough to be angry?”
Thinking back to that night, Yu Ke’s lips curled slightly. “Is she alright?”
“Prince Yu Jie came to question her this morning!” Sang Jiu fumed, rolling her eyes. “It’s all your fault, sending a message to the princess at four in the morning! Her phone was left at the prince’s place, and he saw your message as soon as he woke up!”
No wonder Yu Jie seemed vaguely hostile when she ran into him this morning, he had seen the message!
Yu Ke grew anxious. “Was the princess troubled because of it?”
“No, our princess has her own ways of handling things,” Sang Jiu paused before adding, “Just don’t send any more messages next time.”
Yu Ke felt a pang of disappointment and replied, “Alright.”
Originally, even catching a glimpse of Princess Lan Xing required great effort.
Being told not to send messages was almost equivalent to cutting off all contact with Princess Lan Xing.
As her mind wandered uneasily, Sang Jiu added, “Next time, if you have anything to say, I’ll pass it on to the princess for you.”
Yu Ke’s dark, bright eyes suddenly lit up. She was taken aback for a moment before saying softly, “Thank you.”
Feeling rather embarrassed, Sang Jiu turned to leave after speaking. Just then, a figure emerged unexpectedly from the grassy lakeside. Ram, pitching his voice sweetly, waved at Yu Ke, calling out, “Sister A’Ke!”
He was holding a butterfly kite, making a lively commotion that caught the attention of the girls by the swings. Curious, they gathered around. Ivy teased him, “What’s this ‘Sister A’Ke? Since when have you and the princess become so close?”
“Prince Ram, have all the Alphas in your Yado Kingdom gone extinct that you need to come snatch someone from our Ferrari Kingdom?” quipped a noblewoman.
“Yeah, can’t you see the princess is on a date with our little mermaid?”
Ram shook his head playfully, casually handing the kite to Yu Ke. He then walked over to the sisters at the tea party, linking arms with two of them and mumbling, “Dear sisters, please stop teasing me! I didn’t realize you were all here!”
They continued to poke fun at him, but Ram didn’t mind. In fact, he used the opportunity to smoothly integrate into the sisterhood. Yu Ke chose not to join them; instead, she let the kite catch the wind and handed the string to Ivy, who was nearest, before walking away.
As she glanced back, she noticed Lan Xing sitting quietly in a corner, looking up at the kite she had just set soaring.
