Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 88
A few days later, Lin Qinghan was discharged and returned home. On the day she left the hospital, Fang Jinglan fussed the most, wrapping Lin Qinghan up tightly, afraid she’d catch a chill and it might affect her recovery.
The newborn, on the other hand, was quite healthy. Once home, she mostly just ate and slept, snoozing so deeply that even poking her chubby little arms didn’t wake her—a textbook newborn.
Shen Xian brought the baby home herself. During the day, she still had to work, so Fang Jinglan came over to help the nanny take care of Lin Qinghan and also pick up and drop off Tiantian.
When Shen Tian returned home and saw her new baby sister, she was thrilled. Shen Xian held her up so she could peer into the crib. The baby’s eyes were already noticeably bigger than at birth, darting around curiously—one moment looking at Shen Xian, the next at Shen Tian, everything in the world was new and fascinating.
“Mommy, baby sister is so cute,” Tiantian said as she held onto Shen Xian’s hand and gave it a shake.
Shen Xian bounced her gently and smiled. “Mhm, baby sister is just as cute as you, Tiantian.”
Tiantian snuggled into Shen Xian’s neck and asked sweetly, “Mommy, can I touch baby sister?”
“Of course. But you have to be gentle. She’s still very little—if you use too much strength, it might hurt her.”
With great enthusiasm, Tiantian reached out and carefully pinched her sister’s soft little hand. “Mommy, her hand is so soft and tiny!”
“Yes, she’s still small—like a little marshmallow, all soft and squishy,” Shen Xian chuckled.
The baby waved her pudgy arms inside the crib, milk-fat still visible on her cheeks. She blew little spit bubbles, one after another. Shen Xian steadied Tiantian with one arm while using a small towel to wipe the baby’s drool.
But the little one didn’t know much. She thought Shen Xian was playing with her, so as soon as she was wiped clean, she started blowing bubbles again, soaking the front of her onesie.
Tiantian giggled and pointed. “Mommy, baby sister is so naughty~”
Shen Xian playfully bounced her. “Oh? Tiantian even knows what ‘naughty’ means now?”
“Mhm! Baby sister is naughty.”
Of course, the newborn had no idea she was being called naughty and happily continued bubbling away.
After a while, Shen Xian’s arms got tired from holding Tiantian—after all, she was already over four years old and not exactly light. She set her down gently.
“Baby sister needs to sleep now. Let’s come back and play with her later, okay?”
Tiantian nodded, her ponytail bouncing. “Okay~” Then she scampered off to find Fang Jinglan for some salad.
With the nanny looking after both Lin Qinghan and the baby, and Fang Jinglan handling Tiantian, Shen Xian had a bit less on her plate.
After leaving the baby with the nanny, Shen Xian went to check on Lin Qinghan, who was still in her confinement period and couldn’t catch a chill. She was lying under the covers, and the room temperature had been kept warm.
Shen Xian sat by the bed and saw Lin Qinghan looking a little pitiful. “What’s wrong, Qinghan?”
“I’m so hot, and I haven’t showered or washed my hair in days. I feel sticky and gross.”
Before being discharged, Shen Xian had already asked the doctor. For mothers who had a vaginal birth, washing up was fine during confinement—as long as precautions were taken to keep warm and avoid drafts.
“How about this,” Shen Xian suggested gently, holding Lin Qinghan’s hand, “I’ll turn up the air conditioning a bit, help you wash your hair, and then wipe your body with warm water. You can take a full bath in a few more days.”
Lin Qinghan nodded. “If I don’t wash soon, I won’t be able to stand myself. My hair is so greasy—it smells weird.”
“Alright, I’ll go get things ready.” Shen Xian brought a stool beside the bed, filled a basin with warm water, and gathered the shampoo and towels. She helped Lin Qinghan lie on her side so her head rested comfortably over the basin.
Lin Qinghan tugged on Shen Xian’s sleeve. Shen Xian looked down and asked softly, “What is it?”
Lin Qinghan smiled. “Nothing… I just think you’re wonderful.”
Shen Xian smiled back and kissed the corner of her lips. “Haven’t you always known that I’m wonderful?”
Lin Qinghan had a feeling Shen Xian was being a little cheeky again, but she had no proof, so she let it slide.
Shen Xian carefully poured warm water over Lin Qinghan’s hair, applied some shampoo, and began to gently massage her scalp. It had been over ten days since Lin Qinghan last washed her hair, so the shampoo didn’t lather much at first. Shen Xian took her time, using the first wash to loosen the dirt and relax Lin Qinghan’s scalp.
“Does my hair smell bad?” Lin Qinghan asked, a little embarrassed.
Shen Xian coaxed her gently. “No, you always smell good, no matter what.”
Lin Qinghan chuckled, pleased.
After the first rinse, Shen Xian wrapped her head in a towel and quickly fetched fresh water. On the second wash, there was finally some lather. Noticing the tangles, Shen Xian used conditioner to loosen them, careful not to hurt Lin Qinghan. After two more rinses, she dried Lin Qinghan’s hair with a warm blow dryer. By the end, Shen Xian was sweating.
Lin Qinghan pulled a tissue from the bedside to wipe her sweat. “Thank you, Mrs. Shen.”
Shen Xian leaned in to kiss her lips. “It’s nothing. As long as my Mrs. Shen feels better.”
A month later, Lin Qinghan had mostly recovered. Her only issue was occasional engorgement. Meanwhile, the baby had clearly grown. Unlike in the first month, when she mostly ate and slept, the second month came with stronger awareness. Now, she cried over everything—hunger, thirst, wet diapers, or simply being uncomfortable.
Earlier, Shen Xian had only met the baby’s gaze for a moment when the little one suddenly pouted and burst into tears.
Having no idea what triggered the meltdown, Shen Xian quickly picked her up and rocked her gently. That worked for a few minutes, until Shen Xian stopped rocking—and the baby started wailing again. So Shen Xian just kept rocking.
Out in the living room, Tiantian tattled to Lin Qinghan, “Mommy made baby sister cry again~”
Lin Qinghan knew perfectly well that newborns cried for all kinds of reasons. But hearing Tiantian complain was too cute—she laughed and pulled her into her lap.
Standing nearby, Shen Xian kept rocking the baby and pouted at Lin Qinghan, feeling wronged.
Seeing her like that, Lin Qinghan took the baby from her. As soon as she was in Mama’s arms, the baby quieted down and soon fell asleep.
Shen Xian pointed at the baby and complained, “Qinghan, Nannan bullies me. I barely played with her and she cried. Then you hold her and she stops.”
Lin Qinghan chuckled. “That’s normal. Babies cry a lot. Tiantian did too, remember?”
“True.” Shen Xian sighed. She didn’t dare offend the little one again—her cries were powerful and loud.
That evening, while Fang Jinglan watched TV in the living room, Shen Xian and Tiantian sat by Lin Qinghan, watching her breastfeed the baby.
Tiantian stared curiously and wondered what it tasted like. But before she could say anything, Shen Xian beat her to it. “Big kids don’t drink Mommy’s milk anymore. If you do, your nose might grow long, and you won’t look cute.”
Tiantian looked doubtful and touched her nose. “Really, Mommy?”
Shen Xian nodded. “Yep. All your classmates in kindergarten don’t drink mommy’s milk, right? And none of them have long noses.”
“Right~” Tiantian, still young, was quickly convinced. “Then I won’t drink it either. I don’t want a long nose~”
“Good girl! I knew Tiantian was the best!” Shen Xian hugged her proudly.
Tiantian blushed and nuzzled Shen Xian’s neck.
Watching them, Lin Qinghan couldn’t help but laugh at how easily Tiantian had been tricked.
Not wanting a long nose, Tiantian lost interest in breastfeeding and ran off to play with Fang Jinglan. Since Fang Jinglan had been living with Tiantian to help care for her, it wasn’t too tiring—especially now that Shen Wenkang had recovered and a professional nanny was around during the day.
After a while, the baby stopped nursing and turned her head away, looking like she’d had enough. Shen Xian took the baby, who was now burping contentedly, and gently laid her in the crib beside the big bed.
The baby smacked her lips a little, clearly getting drowsy.
Finally relaxing, Shen Xian waited until she was fully asleep, then leaned over toward Lin Qinghan.
Lin Qinghan followed her gaze, cheeks turning red. She smacked Shen Xian lightly. “Where are you looking? Can’t you behave?”
“I’m not doing anything,” Shen Xian replied innocently, blinking as she kissed the corner of her lips.
About ten minutes later, Lin Qinghan’s angry whisper echoed from the bedroom. “What are you doing?! Didn’t you just tell Tiantian her nose would grow long?!”
“I meant for kids, not me! Besides, I was trying to help with your engorgement…”
“Shen Xian!”
The next morning, Shen Xian had to coax Lin Qinghan for a long time—who ignored her. So Shen Xian trailed behind, helping with chores and errands.
Tiantian, witnessing all this, concluded one thing: Mama always wins, even Mommy has to listen to Mama!
At home, Mama’s word is law!
