Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 87
Lin Qinghan was over nine months pregnant, and recently, she hadn’t been sleeping well. With such a big baby inside her, the increasing pressure on her internal organs was taking a toll. Sometimes, her legs would cramp up in her sleep.
Shen Xian was heartbroken every time it happened. She would massage Lin Qinghan’s legs and soothe her gently, secretly wishing she could bear the baby herself so that Qinghan wouldn’t have to suffer like this.
That night, Lin Qinghan was woken again by the baby kicking. She was drenched in sweat and uncomfortable lying on her side, so she turned over with difficulty.
Shen Xian, still half-asleep, opened her eyes and immediately sat up. “Qinghan, did your leg cramp again? Let me rub it.”
“No, it’s just that lying on one side for so long gets tiring. And it’s a bit hot. I’m fine, you should go back to sleep. You’ve barely been getting any rest lately.” Lin Qinghan looked at her softly.
“I’ll get a bowl of warm water and wipe you down. That’ll help you feel more comfortable.” With that, Shen Xian got up and went to the bathroom. In no time, she returned with a basin and a towel.
She wrung out the towel and began gently wiping the sweat from Lin Qinghan’s body. “This little one sure is giving you a hard time. You’ve been so brave.”
As she wiped her down, Shen Xian’s eyes turned red. Lin Qinghan laughed gently and reached out to hold her hand. “I’m not the only one. All pregnant women go through this. Don’t feel bad, Shen Xian. Having a baby is a blessing.”
“But I just don’t want you to suffer,” Shen Xian mumbled, eyes still misty as she continued wiping her.
“You’re doing so much, too. You’ve been taking care of everything at home. And we’ll get to meet the baby soon. Just a little longer—two more weeks at most,” Lin Qinghan comforted her.
After Shen Xian finished wiping her down and returned to bed, Lin Qinghan was still awake, lying on her side facing her. “Shen Xian, what should we name the baby? What sounds nice with your surname, Shen?”
Shen Xian leaned closer, careful not to bump Qinghan’s belly. “How about Lin Yinan?”
Lin Qinghan blinked. “With my surname?”
Shen Xian smiled and nodded. “Yeah. Tiantian already has my surname. This baby can take yours. You’re the one carrying them, after all. It’s only fair.”
Lin Qinghan couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across her face. Since childhood, she had always known that in their society, children typically took the Alpha or male parent’s surname—even if the baby was carried by an Omega or a woman. It was rare for an Alpha to suggest otherwise.
She didn’t really care about the surname. What moved her was that Shen Xian loved her deeply—enough to think of her first in everything.
“And what about your parents? Will they be okay with it?”
“They’re open-minded. Don’t worry. It’s settled then—our baby will be Lin Yinan,” Shen Xian said, kissing the corner of her lips.
“Okay.” Lin Qinghan closed her eyes.
Seeing that she was ready to sleep, Shen Xian turned off the warm orange nightlight. Just as she was settling in, Lin Qinghan suddenly said, “Shen Xian, sometimes I wonder—if you hadn’t come back into our lives, what kind of days would Tiantian and I be living now?”
Shen Xian wanted to hug her but didn’t want to risk touching her belly. She quietly slipped out of bed and circled around to lie behind her, gently embracing her from the back. She kissed the tip of Lin Qinghan’s ear. “You’d still be living a happy life. But let’s not dwell on ‘what ifs.’ I’m here now, and I’m not going anywhere.”
Lin Qinghan leaned into her warmth. “You’re right. No use wondering. You’re mine now, anyway.”
“I am,” Shen Xian replied, kissing her cheek. “And no one can take me away.”
The next morning, Lin Qinghan felt a strong discomfort in her belly. Shen Xian rushed her to the hospital. Thanks to some connections, they got a room quickly and Lin Qinghan was admitted.
Shen Xian sent Tiantian to stay with Fang Jinglan and Shen Wenkang, who had both recovered and were more than capable of watching her.
Lin Qinghan’s due date had arrived, and labor could start any day. During a briefing for expecting mothers and families, the doctor explained possible complications—including amniotic fluid embolism, which could occur if the fluid entered the bloodstream during delivery. If that happened, even emergency treatment might not save the mother.
Lin Qinghan, having given birth to Tiantian before, remained calm. Shen Xian, however, teared up just listening.
Lin Qinghan held her hand to comfort her. “Don’t worry. It’s very rare. Trust me, we’ll be fine.”
But Shen Xian’s tears were already falling. Lin Qinghan had never seen her cry before and hurried to wipe her tears with a tissue.
Sniffling, Shen Xian murmured, “Childbirth is too dangerous. Let’s not do this again.”
“Okay. Two babies are enough. No more after this,” Lin Qinghan agreed gently.
Shen Xian leaned in to let her wipe her tears. “Okay. No more. It’s too scary.”
Lin Qinghan looked at Shen Xian’s reddened eyes and motioned for her to pull the curtain between the beds. “Come here for a second.”
Shen Xian sat by the bed.
Lin Qinghan hooked her finger and whispered, “Closer.”
As Shen Xian leaned in, Lin Qinghan propped herself up slightly, kissed her softly, then nestled into her arms. “It’s my first time seeing you cry. It’s kind of cute. But don’t worry—the doctor says this to everyone.
When I had Tiantian, they said the same thing. The chances of something going wrong are really, really low.”
Shen Xian nodded, though her worry still lingered.
Two days later, Lin Qinghan’s labor began in earnest. When she was dilated to three centimeters, she was taken to the delivery room. But labor didn’t happen immediately—some progressed quickly, others slowly.
Another expectant mother was already waiting inside.
Outside, Shen Xian paced anxiously. Shen Wenkang and Fang Jinglan had dropped off Tiantian at Shen Jingping’s and were waiting with her.
Shen Xian kept circling the hallway, her eyes red from stress.
“Shen Xian, will you sit down for a minute? I’m getting dizzy just watching you,” Fang Jinglan said, exasperated.
“I can’t. Sitting down makes me think too much. Walking helps,” Shen Xian explained, still pacing.
Her restlessness rubbed off on the others—soon, the Alphas waiting outside began pacing as well, including several female Alphas and even a couple of anxious male Betas.
An hour passed with no word. Shen Xian asked, “Mom, Qinghan’s been in there over an hour. Why isn’t she out yet?”
Fang Jinglan, though worried too, stayed calmer. “It’s not instant, you know. They have to wait until she’s fully dilated—ten centimeters. Giving birth is like walking through the gates of hell. Shen Xian, you better treat Qinghan like gold after this. If you ever wrong her now that you’re successful, I’ll be the first to come after you.”
“I’d never hurt her,” Shen Xian said, crying again. “I just know it must hurt so much. She was comforting me a few days ago, but I knew she was suffering.”
Fang Jinglan was stunned—this was the first time she’d ever seen Shen Xian cry. She quickly handed her tissues. “Qinghan will be fine. Stop crying—you’ll need energy to take care of her later.”
Shen Xian wiped her eyes and nodded, though she kept pacing.
Soon, the delivery room doors opened, and a doctor called out, “Family of Lin Qinghan?”
Shen Xian’s eyes lit up. “That’s me!” She rushed over.
“Congratulations! It’s a girl—and she’s got quite the lungs,” the doctor said, showing her the baby.
Shen Xian barely looked at the baby. The moment she saw Lin Qinghan’s pale face, she burst into tears. “Qinghan, you must be in so much pain. I was so scared.”
“We’re both fine. Don’t cry,” Lin Qinghan said weakly.
“Don’t talk, save your strength. Just rest,” Shen Xian urged.
The doctor pushing the bed smiled. “Your wife had the quickest labor today. Both mom and baby are doing great. Let’s head back to your room.”
“Thank you, doctor,” Shen Xian sniffled.
While Shen Xian cried, Fang Jinglan had already taken the baby from the doctor and was pushing Lin Qinghan back to the room.
Once they were back, Lin Qinghan asked, “Mom, can I see the baby?”
“Of course,” Fang Jinglan said, carefully placing the baby beside her.
Lin Qinghan reached out and squeezed the baby’s tiny arm. The little one wiggled her head and let out a soft giggle.
Everyone chuckled at her reaction.
“Shen Xian, come hold Yinan,” Lin Qinghan said.
Shen Xian was still a little bitter about how much Qinghan had suffered. But once she saw the baby’s soft little face, her lips curled into a smile.
She gently cradled the baby in her arms. Though the baby wasn’t scared, her eyes were still not fully open.
“Yinan’s eyes are so tiny,” Shen Xian remarked.
“They’re just not open yet. Are you teasing our baby?” Lin Qinghan teased.
“No, no, I wouldn’t dare,” Shen Xian replied quickly.
There was a small hospital bassinet beside Lin Qinghan’s bed. Shen Xian carefully laid the baby down. The little one showed no fear, closed her eyes, and started puckering her lips in sleep.
“Shen Xian, I’ll go home and make some chicken soup for Qinghan. Your dad can bring Tiantian back later. Qinghan needs to rest,” Fang Jinglan said.
“Got it, Mom,” Shen Xian replied.
Once Lin Qinghan fell asleep, Shen Xian gently wiped the sweat from her forehead and neck with a warm towel. Then she contacted Xiao Yue to help find a reliable postpartum caregiver.
Watching both the big and little figures sleeping on the bed, Shen Xian finally breathed a sigh of relief. She held Lin Qinghan’s hand tightly, her heart aching for her wife’s exhaustion.
