Chapter 13: Don’t Understand
“What’s this? You aren’t even calling me ‘Senior’ anymore?”
She was just a young girl, yet she dared to be angry with her; the account for eavesdropping hadn’t even been settled yet.
Yun Qianxue’s pink lips pressed tight, and there seemed to be a flicker of movement in her dark, unreadable eyes, reflecting the festive lanterns and fireworks before fading away.
The ice-cold young girl turned around without uttering half a word, practically wearing the words “disrespectful” across her entire body.
Yin Shaoqing’s indifferent face shifted slightly, a trace of a smile hooking at her lips.
This girl’s “broken pot” attitude (resigned defiance) looked exactly like the cat she used to raise. The huffy silhouette of her back grew cuter the more she looked at it.
After taking a couple of steps on her own and seeing that the person behind hadn’t followed, Yun Qianxue turned sideways. With her eyes half-closed, she said in a cold, flat voice, “Is Senior Yin not in a hurry?”
“If it’s late, there won’t be any beauties to accompany us.”
Listen to those words.
The fat civet cat’s ears twisted back into “airplane mode,” its tail swishing so fast it left an afterimage. Look at this passive-aggression; she really is quite angry.
“Not in a hurry. What this Seat wants is the grand finale the rarest treasure in the human world.”
How could ordinary, vulgar powders enter her eyes?
“Host, that’s enough. Would you die if you didn’t bicker with the female lead?” The system was falling apart. You might as well not have spoken; it’s like you’re begging to anger her to death!
Fine. You, the Demon Venerable, are naturally more glamorous than anyone else, so of course you wouldn’t look at others.
Yun Qianxue flicked her sleeve and walked away.
If that were the case, an unremarkable person like her would be even less likely to enter Yin Shaoqing’s sight; why bother asking for trouble?
“I was telling the truth.”
Yin Shaoqing didn’t think she was intentionally angering Yun Qianxue. That Pan Yang would always order the Flower House’s top courtesans, squandering thousands of gold for the grand finale of “Cloud Song and Moon Dance.” Why go so early? Yin Shaoqing didn’t like the scent of rouge inside anyway.
It wasn’t even half as pleasant as the scent of clear snow on Yun Qianxue.
Fat Civet: Damn it, Host, your mouth is a disaster! You deserve to be single!
In the Willow Tower where the moon shines on hearts, under the peach blossom fans, ribbons dangled in pairs as dancing waists moved with the softness of spinning auspicious clouds.
With graceful lotus steps and eyes like seductive waves, it was a picture of vivid sensuality, the air thick with the scents of wine, rouge, and beautiful women. Everyone, near and far, inside and outside the pavilions, had flushed faces, intoxicated by this “gentle village.”
Except for Yun Qianxue and Yin Shaoqing. They sat at separate tables—one with a face like frost, the other with a face of iron-green.
Yin Shaoqing never knew that some people truly possessed ears only for decoration.
“Go to the opposite side. Sit properly.”
With a dark face, Yin Shaoqing gave instructions to the two curvaceous women beside her, who had tried to get clingy several times despite her warnings.
“How mean Senior is so unromantic” The woman in pink had eyes like silk, her slender hand reaching out to touch Yin Shaoqing’s fair, long fingers.
Yin Shaoqing lifted her eyes coldly, her voice chilling: “Don’t touch.”
The gaze was too cold; the woman’s seductive expression cracked into awkwardness. It was just as awkward as the clean-looking woman in green beside Yun Qianxue.
Yun Qianxue had maintained a stiff face throughout, neither speaking nor touching the woman, even though she had been ordered by the Senior at the other table. She hadn’t expected Yun Qianxue to be so rigid. She had intended to approach since “the mountain would not come to me,” but as soon as she moved closer, Yun Qianxue dodged her as if she were a ghost.
Looking at the other table, she had initially been envious, but now…
Two blocks of wood. Why even visit a Flower House? Are they sick in the head!
“Why so~” Fortunately, the pink-clad woman had survived many storms; Yin Shaoqing’s “playing hard to get” wouldn’t stop her. She leaned down, her alluring figure leaning forward as she whispered like silk: “Is Senior afraid of losing control and wanting to touch somewhere else instead?~”
The awkward woman in green beside her gasped, her hands flying to cover her mouth. She stared wide-eyed at Yun Qianxue’s hand.
Those slender, soft fingers were gripping a teacup so hard her knuckles were white. Seeing the pink-clad woman getting closer and closer to Yin Shaoqing, Yun Qianxue unconsciously crushed the cup in her hand. Sharp, jagged shards pierced deep into her palm, and blood began to drip steadily onto the table.
“Hmph?” Yin Shaoqing glanced at Yun Qianxue imperceptibly. In an instant, she used the end of her chopsticks to push the pink-clad woman’s hand away.
Her peerless face, enhanced by the slight curve of her red lips, appeared like that of a celestial being, making everyone stare in a daze. Yin Shaoqing lightly tugged her own collar, revealing a small patch of her fair, long neck pearly white like a shark’s pearl from the deep sea, kissed by moonlight.
A hint of blurred mystery appeared in her narrow, cold eyes. Yin Shaoqing smiled. “Whatever you have, I have. My appearance is more than enough to surpass yours. Touching you…” She arched a brow, looking somewhat rakish. “Who is really taking advantage of whom?”
“Pfft~” Yun Qianxue couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Though her head suddenly throbbed with pain, it didn’t stop her light laughter. She hadn’t known that this Demon Venerable could have an even sharper tongue.
“You!” The pink-clad woman’s face turned scarlet, her chest heaving with rage. If it weren’t for the fact that this woman paid well, she would have clawed her face!
“Forget it, forget it.” The woman in purple, who hadn’t spoken, pulled her back. She bowed respectfully to Yin Shaoqing. “Since Senior does not require service, my two sisters and I will take our leave.”
Observant. Yin Shaoqing admired the woman’s wit. She produced another thousand gold and rewarded her. “Go on.”
The purple-clad woman pulled the indignant pink-clad woman out the door, followed by the green-clad woman who had wanted to run long ago. Only two people and a cat remained in the room.
Neither spoke. The room, originally filled with heavy fragrances, became deathly silent and awkward. The fat civet decided to play dead, refusing to break the ice; it would rather listen to the debauchery outside than be frozen to death by these two blocks of ice.
“Sister, why did you pull me out?” The pink-clad woman grumbled, shaking off the purple-clad woman’s hand once they were outside the room.
“Forget it,” the green-clad woman followed, adding, “A young couple having a lover’s quarrel has nothing to do with us.” She pointed at herself and the others, her eyes twitching with an urge to laugh. “We were just there for atmosphere purely background foliage.”
“Worse than foliage.” The purple-clad woman had some connections with the Flower House manager and knew the manager was a Golden Core expert, one in ten thousand, backed by a great power. Today, that manager had been so respectful to the cold-faced, tall woman with the extraordinary aura; the woman was likely a prominent figure.
“It’s lucky she didn’t take your life; you should be more careful with your words.” The purple-clad woman glared at her disobedient sister. She said coldly, “Do you think you’re that frail girl beside her?”
They were just a pair of small immortal lovers having a spat, ignoring each other out of spite. Once one softened, would the other keep ignoring her? If they had stayed, wouldn’t they have been in the way? It was better to leave early while the atmosphere was right.
The fat civet nodded. This person is smart. Ten thousand times sharper than the Host! With the Host’s broken brain, she really does deserve to be single!
“Senior, why did you send them away?” Originally, hearing Yin Shaoqing shut the woman down felt very satisfying, but then Yin Shaoqing tugged her collar open, which Yun Qianxue found glaringly unpleasant. “Was I disturbing Senior’s elegant mood?”
If she hadn’t been there, would the woman have tugged more than just her collar? Would she have taken off her clothes?
“You are indeed a killjoy.”
The fat civet flopped over: Holy mother of! Such a fine woman, why was she born with a mouth?!
Yun Qianxue froze, never expecting her to be so direct. Her hand, filled with porcelain shards, clenched tight. She stared without blinking, unsure how to react. Anger, laughter, rage, sadness? She couldn’t choose.
Because she couldn’t perceive it.
Yin Shaoqing stood up, sat down beside her, and pulled Yun Qianxue’s bleeding hand over. She frowned and took out a spiritual jade needle to clean it. Her mouth remained unsparing: “You’re so violent you scared away all the people serving you. How is that not a killjoy?”
Yun Qianxue reflexively tried to pull her hand away, only to find Yin Shaoqing’s grip was very firm. The spiritual needle was dipped in medicine; upon touching the wound, it numbed the searing pain.
The hand stopped hurting, but her head pained even more. This didn’t stop Yun Qianxue from being “disrespectful” to Yin Shaoqing. She lifted her eyes to the woman carefully treating her wound and whispered, “Senior’s tongue is so poisonous you scared away everyone serving you; isn’t that even more of a killjoy?”
Yin Shaoqing’s hand was extremely steady. She picked out the last small shard and poured spiritual medicine on the wound, replying casually, “The good show is yet to come. How does this count as being a killjoy?”
Unexpectedly, this one sentence caused Yun Qianxue to misunderstand. Her hand moved faster than her brain she pulled back with force, re-tearing the wound that the medicine had just stopped from bleeding.
Yin Shaoqing was caught off guard. Not only was the hand pulled away, but the medicine bottle in her hand was knocked to the floor, and several drops of blood splattered onto her clothes. She frowned, not understanding what this female lead was acting up for. She simply used a finger art to immobilize her, grabbed her hand, and wrapped it into a “zongzi” (thick bandage).
With a stiff face, she said coldly, “Keep your childish temper in check. This Seat still has to watch righteous disciples kill each other; I don’t have time to keep cleaning up after you.”
Yun Qianxue:
If she owed the heavens a great debt from her past life, she prayed for heavenly lightning to shatter her bones and spirit as punishment, rather than making her unable to understand Yin Shaoqing’s words and causing her to misunderstand so many times!
She had thought… she had thought the “good show” was Yin Shaoqing and another… sharing the clouds and rain of passion…
Who could have known it was this?
Releasing Yun Qianxue’s immobilization, Yin Shaoqing waved her sleeve, returning to her usual magnificent black robes.
“Senior.” Yun Qianxue called to her lowly, cradling her bandaged hand.
“What?” Yin Shaoqing turned to look at this eccentric kitten.
“This junior is dull.” Yun Qianxue felt things couldn’t go on like this, or one day she would be so angry she’d perish along with Yin Shaoqing. “This junior often fails to understand Senior’s words. I hope Senior will provide more guidance in the future.”
The respectful posture was correct, but Yin Shaoqing didn’t understand the words.
Before Yin Shaoqing could open her mouth and say something non-human, the fat civet kicked her in the face! It sent a telepathic message: “She’s telling you to learn how to speak properly! Stop speaking in half-sentences; do you think everyone is a roundworm in your stomach?”
“Learn how to speak?” Yin Shaoqing was shocked. This female lead talked so much; clearly, a few words could express a meaning, yet she insisted on rambling through several sentences. She found it exhausting.
The fat civet rolled its eyes and couldn’t be bothered to argue. It simply said, “She can’t understand you when you talk like that. Just say if you’ll learn or not.”
“I’ll learn.” Yin Shaoqing sighed and compromised. What else could she do? If Yun Qianxue couldn’t understand, she would have to change her way.
Oho, look at the Host caving! The fat civet couldn’t even look. You’re a Demon Venerable; why aren’t you overbearing and arrogant, pointing at her nose and saying: ‘I talk like this, listen if you want, and if you don’t understand, deal with it yourself!’ Why don’t you say it? Pah! Old double-standard and duplicitous woman!
“Thank you, Senior.” Yun Qianxue breathed a sigh of relief, sensing she might live a few years longer. She looked up and asked, “Where are we going next, Senior?”
“To find your Senior Brother.”
“What?” Yun Qianxue froze instantly, the color draining from her face in a heartbeat.
