Transmigrated as the Vampire Alpha of the Omega Heroine - Chapter 55
“Miss Wen.” The sales assistant standing nearby greeted the woman politely, receiving a courteous nod in return.
“Wen Ru?” Gu Li stared blankly at this classmate she hadn’t seen for nearly two months. The transformation was astonishing when they’d last met at the hotel, Wen Ru had still dressed like an awkward student, but now her outfit and makeup had completely matured into an adult style.
If not for that familiar loud voice and faintly recognizable facial features, Gu Li doubted she would have recognized her at all. On the street, she would have seemed like a complete stranger.
“Yes! It’s me!” Wen Ru stepped forward to examine their wedding dresses, excitedly pulling out her phone from her bag to take photos before restraining herself.
As if remembering something, she enthusiastically typed out a message and sent it to someone before looking up at Gu Li and Jiang Nian: “Are you two planning to wear these for your wedding?”
She immediately realized her slip, of course people trying on wedding dresses here were preparing for marriage. She just hadn’t expected these particular dresses to be chosen by Gu Li and Jiang Nian.
“Yes.” Jiang Nian nodded, carefully adjusting the train of Gu Li’s dress where a speck of dust stood out conspicuously against the black fabric.
“These dresses were actually my—”
“Ding ding ding.”
Before Wen Ru could finish, her phone rang loudly. She instinctively answered on speakerphone, revealing a woman’s voice that matched her own in volume and energy: “Keep those two classmates there! I’m coming right over!”
Before the call even ended, everyone present could hear hurried footsteps and the jangling of bag chains from the other end.
The two brides-to-be looked at Wen Ru in confusion, their eyes asking what was happening.
“This is my mom’s shop. The dresses you’re wearing were designed by my mother.” Wen Ru put away her phone and eagerly went to fetch something from the counter.
It was a photo album containing a single aged photograph with yellowed edges. The black-and-white tones didn’t diminish its quality, showing two women in contrasting wedding dresses, one black, one white their tightly clasped hands radiating profound love for each other.
Wen Ru gazed at the photo nostalgically before pointing to the woman in black: “This is my mommy,” then to the one in white: “And this is my mother.”
“They also got married in wedding dresses, though unlike you two, they were both—”
“Both omegas. Even today, you might still encounter such couples.” A woman who had hurried in gently took the album, studying the black-gowned figure before shaking her head slightly and closing it. After returning it to the counter, she approached Gu Li and Jiang Nian.
“So you two are the ones interested in these wedding dresses?”
They nodded in confirmation.
“I thought I’d encounter an OO couple, but it seems this lady is an alpha.” She glanced at Gu Li’s demeanor, then turned back to look at Wen Ru, blaming her for not clarifying the situation in the WeChat messages.
However, it’s quite rare for a female alpha to wear a wedding dress and marry an omega. Women who differentiate into alphas consciously pursue masculine traits, so female alphas almost never marry omegas without wearing suits. That’s why the designer had subconsciously assumed these dresses were meant for another OO couple when creating them.
She had even reluctantly instructed the staff to advertise them as sister dresses.
Omega and omega…
Her fingers unconsciously brushed over the gland hidden beneath her inhibitor patch as she reminisced about her past with that person.
Gently stepping forward, she adjusted the wedding dresses on the two women, carefully revealing several hidden details that made the gowns even more breathtaking.
“The designer who created these dresses has passed away. I made a promise to her, if a couple ever came to buy these dresses, I would convey her wish for them to cherish these gowns and pass along her blessing. She hoped you wouldn’t let outside opinions change your love for each other, that you’d stay together harmoniously forever.”
A love like the sun, moon and stars pure and dazzling.
Just like when those two omegas were together, not only did they face judgmental stares from those around them, but they also endured physical suffering. They couldn’t comfort each other during heats even if they marked each other with omega pheromones, the next heat would only come more violently. So every cycle meant relying on suppressants to endure endless torment.
All they had was their love for each other, until finally, they overcame every obstacle and stood firmly together.
These words might have been that person’s encouragement for same-sex lovers facing similar judgment, but she believed there was no need to view others the way people viewed them.
Love is love.
They weren’t bound by boundaries, nor should they impose boundaries on others.
“Okay. We will.”
As the woman released the train of the wedding dress, her eyes held a sense of relief, as if she’d finally fulfilled that person’s last request.
With about two years left until their wedding, the two dresses remained in the shop for preservation.
Gu Li walked slowly down the road with Jiang Nian, when suddenly, silence fell between them.
Gu Li didn’t know what had come over her, perhaps hearing about Wen Ru’s omega elders made her think of the girls from her past life, who loved each other despite their shared gender and faced doubts, yet stood firm together.
If she and Jiang Nian weren’t in this world, or if they weren’t an alpha and omega, could they have stood together as resolutely as that aunt and her lover?
“Are you okay?” Jiang Nian asked worriedly, studying her face.
Gu Li turned her head, smiling as she shook it gently. “Nian Nian, if, just if, we were both omegas like those two aunties, and I couldn’t soothe your heat, nor you my pain, would we still be together?”
“I don’t know.” Jiang Nian didn’t offer an immediate answer. After a moment of thought, she shook her head. “Love comes in too many forms, with too many variables. All I know is that right now, in this moment, you’re the one I love most.”
Her cheeks were flushed, a small scratch from changing clothes earlier still visible. Gu Li carefully touched it with her fingers, then trailed her hand up to cover Jiang Nian’s eyes.
“There’s actually something I’ve never told you.”
“What?”
“Before I say it, don’t rush to ask questions. Just let me finish.”
“Okay.”
“I’m… not actually from this world. Or rather, I’m not the real Gu Li. I come from another world, one without the concept of alphas, betas, or omegas. There, people are only divided into men and women. Society largely believes only men and women can marry and relationships like ours, two girls together are often met with judgment. In some rare places, they might be legally recognized, but overall, it’s similar to how omega-omega relationships are viewed here. So I’ve always felt grateful that this world is so accepting, even supportive, of us. But now I realize it’s the same here, alpha-alpha or omega-omega love is treated like same-sex love back home, seen as strange, even unbearable for those in it. But why? Love is love. Why must we draw boundaries around it?”
Jiang Nian felt Gu Li’s hand tremble slightly. She reached up and gently held it.
“I might not have been seeing you through the lens of an alpha. More than anything, I’ve been seeing us through the eyes of a girl loving another girl from my world. What that aunty said today about omega-omega love… that’s closer to how I feel about you. Does that bother you?”
She asked cautiously. The woman’s words had made her realize that her feelings for Jiang Nian might not align with Jiang Nian’s feelings for her.
In this world, the norm was alpha-omega love. But for Gu Li, she was simply a girl in love with another girl, about to marry her. She wasn’t like the alphas of this world, she was just herself. To her, what they had was more like the love between women in her own world.
A knot had formed in her heart, heavy and uncomfortable. She wanted to tear it open, to show her beloved, hoping she could help untangle it.
Jiang Nian was silent for a while before asking softly, “When we met… were you still you?”
“Yes. When I met you, I was me.”
Gu Li heard her lover’s gentle voice beside her ear: “Then when I fell in love with you, it was you I loved. Beyond alpha or omega, beyond your name, your face, your family, your gender. I love you because you’re you.”
Jiang Nian pulled Gu Li’s hand down, staring straight into the alpha’s eyes: “Other people’s experiences don’t have to be ours. But if we’d met in your original world and gone through these things together, I’d still have fallen for you, Gu Li.”
The kitten carefully used her paws to open the chestnut shell. The soft spines that had grown to protect itself were peeled away, revealing the smooth, round interior, the complete and genuine self she’d always kept hidden.
“But what do you mean by ‘not from this world’…”
Gu Li laughed and hugged her, saying with amusement: “To answer that, we’d have to start with how certain websites keep writing about transmigration and novel-world-crossing stories.”
