Transmigrated as the Vampire Alpha of the Omega Heroine - Chapter 52
The two hiding nearby watched the entire scene of Lawyer Ji seeking protection in Gu Wei’s arms.
“Are they a couple?” Jiang Nian whispered.
“They must be,” Gu Li agreed.
“Lawyer Ji seems to be an alpha, right? Earlier she seemed so stylish and humorous, but now she appears much softer than Aunt Gu. That contrast is adorable.” Jiang Nian rested her hand on Gu Li’s shoulder, watching with keen interest.
“You like that type?” Gu Li turned to look at her.
“Yeah.” Jiang Nian patted her cheek, smiling as she gazed at her.
The contrast reminded her of Gu Li before and after her rut.
She had initially planned to keep the latter part of that thought to herself, but remembering their recent agreement to always be honest with each other, she spoke openly: “It’s a bit like you, that’s why I like it.”
Instantly, the slight jealousy in Gu Li’s heart dissipated.
The CEO and Lawyer Ji didn’t stay there long. After exchanging some words, they walked over hand in hand toward the two observers, causing the hidden spectators to hastily pretend they had just returned from a walk elsewhere.
Ji Bai’s face still carried a faint blush, making her appear less stern and more gentle than before. Her fingers naturally intertwined with Gu Wei’s as she pulled her closer.
When the four made eye contact, it was Lawyer Ji who spoke first: “Let’s go, I’ll take you home.”
Despite not having driven there, Ji Bai expertly took Gu Wei’s car keys and started the vehicle. The two youngsters sat in the back, silently watching the hand that had just shifted gears reach over to hold Gu Wei’s in the passenger seat.
“Gu Li, your mother has something to tell you~”
“Ah, is it that you and Lawyer Ji are together now?” Gu Li responded quickly.
“Huh? Haha, yes.” CEO Gu stretched lazily with her other hand, joking sleepily: “Was it that obvious?”
Extremely obvious.
Gu Li exchanged a glance with Jiang Nian beside her.
…
“Drive the car back. Gu Li and I will take the company car tomorrow.” Gu Wei waved to Ji Bai in the vehicle, reminding her to drop Jiang Nian home safely.
Meanwhile, Gu Li was still chatting with Jiang Nian, only letting go after giving the omega a reluctant kiss on the cheek before parting.
This earned a teasing remark from the CEO: “Young love is so affectionate indeed.”
“Yes,” Lawyer Ji agreed, tilting her head expectantly only to receive an urging look instead of the farewell kiss she hoped for, making her pout slightly.
The summer after graduation was long, and Gu Wei planned to take Gu Li to the company to familiarize her with operations, as the Gu Corporation would eventually be hers.
“You’ll be treated as a regular employee when you come in. Remember, you’re just a high school graduate now, so there’ll be much you don’t understand. Learn well from your supervisors.” Gu Wei adjusted her collar and straightened her suit jacket before giving an approving pat on her shoulder.
“You look presentable. Good luck, Employee Gu.” Opening the car door, Gu Wei signaled for her to follow for orientation.
The CEO’s office was eight floors above the level where Gu Li, a junior employee, worked. She was taken to her assigned department and introduced to her team leader to familiarize herself with company procedures. Throughout the morning, however, she kept catching the company’s top boss observing her through the window, making the senior colleagues guiding her excessively nervous.
At lunchtime, Gu Wei even left work early to take her to the company cafeteria.
The Gu Corporation’s cafeteria occupied an entire floor, serving all employees working in the building.
“Mom, this seems a bit excessive,” Gu Li whispered as she swiped her employee card for food, trailing behind her mother.
They had agreed Gu Li would be treated as an ordinary employee, yet this “ordinary employee” had been repeatedly watched by the CEO throughout the day and was now openly having lunch with her in the cafeteria.
“Hahaha, I just couldn’t help worrying about you,” Gu Wei laughed, transferring a chicken drumstick from her plate to Gu Li’s without caring about the stares from other employees. She even cheerfully acknowledged greetings from several staff members, appearing much more approachable than usual.
Meanwhile, Lawyer Ji, who had been happily whistling her way from the legal department to the CEO’s office for a lunch date with her girlfriend, found the office empty. She carefully placed the lovingly prepared lunchbox on Gu Wei’s desk before checking the private rest area.
No one was there, and the bathroom was silent.
Puzzled, she called Gu Wei’s phone, only to hear it ring from the bedside table in the rest area. After a moment’s thought, she dialed Gu Li’s number instead. The alpha answered immediately, with Gu Wei’s distinct laughter audible in the background.
“Is President Gu having lunch with you?”
“Yes,” Gu Li replied naturally. “She said she often eats in the cafeteria and wanted to ask about my morning work while recommending some good dishes.”
This was ridiculous everyone in the company knew the CEO never ate in the cafeteria, always having specially prepared meals delivered to her office.
Ji Bai knew Gu Wei’s late-night work habits had damaged her stomach, requiring softer, more digestible meals than the standard cafeteria fare. Today’s soup contained a special herbal recipe recommended by a TCM friend to aid digestion.
Rushing downstairs with the lunchbox, the frantic lawyer spotted the pair chatting happily at a prominent table. Seeing Gu Wei had already eaten half of her randomly selected, hard-to-digest dishes, Ji Bai hurried to intervene.
“Ji Bai?” Gu Wei looked puzzled at the alpha gripping her chopsticks.
“Don’t eat these.” Moving swiftly, Ji Bai opened her homemade soup, served a portion, then took Gu Wei’s plate to replace the remaining food with gentler options.
The plate was handed back to President Gu. Lawyer Ji held her hand and gently massaged it while saying, “Have you forgotten how you rushed through a meal last time and had cafeteria food delivered? You had stomach discomfort all night because of that.”
She naturally sat down beside Gu Wei, transferring the dishes Gu Wei had taken onto another plate before quietly eating them herself. This completely unselfconscious display made Gu Li, sitting across from them, feel rather awkward.
Was she being a third wheel here? Yes, definitely.
She got the distinct impression that Lawyer Ji Bai had just shot her a glance that seemed to say: finish your meal quickly and get back to work, stop disturbing our time together.
But Gu Wei wouldn’t let Gu Li leave first. Although she obediently ate the more digestible food as Lawyer Ji suggested, she still wanted to use lunchtime to ask Gu Li about her thoughts on the morning’s work. As a result, throughout the entire meal, Gu Li had to endure Lawyer Ji’s somewhat jealous looks while answering the CEO’s questions making it an utterly uncomfortable dining experience.
“We’ll head up first then. Let’s have dinner together later.” Gu Wei patted her daughter’s shoulder, preparing to return to the 20th floor with the legal department’s Lawyer Ji.
“No, no, I actually have plans to have dinner with Nian Nian tonight. For the afternoon work report, I can… I can send you an email tomorrow. We could do it that way from now on.” Gu Li hastily amended her statement after seeing Ji Bai’s less-than-friendly expression.
Please no, if she had to eat with these two every time, she’d be killed by Ji Bai’s dagger stares.
Even jealous of her own daughter? Ji Bai, you’re really something. When I asked for your help before, I thought you were that mature, charismatic type. Turns out you’re just a vat of aged vinegar.
As Gu Li walked back with her things, she called Jiang Nian, wanting to vent about this absurd situation.
The omega took a while to answer, only calling back after some time.
“Hello?”
“Nian Nian, what are you up to?”
“Painting.”
“Oh.” Gu Li smacked her lips, unable to resist complaining to the little omega on the other end, which drew soft laughter from Jiang Nian.
“What are you laughing at?” Gu Li asked, puzzled.
“Lawyer Ji is so cute.” Jiang Nian replied leisurely after finishing a brushstroke.
The little alpha’s face instantly fell. “Don’t call other people cute, Nian Nian,” she grumbled unhappily.
Alphas,a species extremely prone to jealousy, each one a born master of aged vinegar.
