Transmigrated as the Vampire Alpha of the Omega Heroine - Chapter 49
The day Jiang Nian and Gu Li went to visit Jiang’s father was bathed in golden sunlight.
Gu Li could still vividly recall how stiff the girl beside her had been as they walked in together, and how the tears had flowed uncontrollably when Jiang Nian saw her father.
The man looked somewhat haggard, but his eyes still held a spark of life. When he saw his daughter, his expression was a mix of guilt, relief, and something deeper, something ineffable.
Gu Li stepped back, giving them space. Only when their conversation seemed to wind down did she step forward to greet him.
“Thank you for taking care of Nian Nian,” Jiang’s father said with an awkward nod.
Then, hesitantly, he asked his daughter, “Nian Nian, could you step outside for a moment? There’s something I’d like to say to your friend.”
Jiang Nian glanced at Gu Li worriedly, only leaving after receiving her reassuring nod.
Gu Li took the seat across from him and met the older alpha’s gaze directly.
“Your mother wrote to me about… the two of you.”
…
“What did my dad say to you?” Jiang Nian asked as she followed Gu Li outside.
Gu Li pulled her to the side of the road, away from traffic, positioning herself protectively on the outer edge. They stopped by the sidewalk, and Gu Li reached up to adjust Jiang Nian’s collar, her hands empty but gentle.
“It’s a secret between him and me. I promised not to tell you,” she said, ruffling Jiang Nian’s soft hair.
In her mind flashed the image of the man breaking down in tears, his vulnerability, hidden from his closest family, finally pouring out to someone who would listen.
Along with that came his solemn entrustment.
Gu Li pulled herself back to the present.
The girl in front of her stood obediently under her touch, clutching the report card she had shown her father, an outstanding result, one that would surely secure her admission to her dream school.
It was good. In this world, there were so many people besides her who loved the one she cherished.
It was good. None of their efforts had been in vain.
She withdrew her hand, fingers brushing against the ring in her pocket. Now felt like the right moment.
With those emotions and Jiang’s father’s words in her heart, she wanted to voice what she had already shown countless times through her actions to say it clearly, out loud, to the little omega standing before her.
She had always been the one passively accepting Jiang Nian’s declarations of love, preferring to respond through deeds rather than words. But this time, she wanted to be the first to speak.
Between them, Jiang Nian had been the first to confess, the first to define their relationship. Now, Gu Li wanted to take the lead.
She led Jiang Nian down a quiet path, stopping beneath the largest tree. Then, pulling the ring from her pocket, she spoke softly, “Nian Nian, will you marry me?”
She was always meticulous about these things. Marking her, sharing a bed that demanded responsibility. This was an engagement ring, not a proposal. And she disliked the idea of putting Jiang Nian on the spot in front of others, forcing an answer.
She preferred moments like this, just the two of them, in a place where only they existed, whispering their love with the utmost sincerity.
The omega in front of her seemed stunned, as if she hadn’t expected things to move so quickly. They had only officially become a couple weeks ago, and now Gu Li was holding out an engagement ring.
Jiang Nian stared at the ring, speechless. The alpha before her, misreading her hesitation, grew anxious.
Had she been too rash?
I hadn’t even given her a heads-up before hastily bringing up the engagement, did I scare the little kitten?
“Okay.”
This response shattered the alpha’s fears. Watching Jiang Nian’s happy smile before her, she finally relaxed and clumsily yet tenderly slid the ring onto her finger.
The silver ring rested on Jiang Nian’s fair fingers, accentuating their allure. Without thinking, the alpha kissed the back of her hand, pushing the atmosphere toward something more intimate.
Jiang Nian naturally tapped her own lips, signaling that a kiss was due only to be abruptly lifted, her position shifting from beneath to on top.
Gazing at the alpha’s face now inches away, she chuckled, “What are you doing?”
Before she could finish, the alpha’s impatient kiss sealed her lips.
The alpha’s upper lip pressed against her lower one, while the rest of the kiss lingered on her chin, sending tingles straight to her heart.
With no other support, she clung tightly to Gu Li’s body. Though the alpha had initiated the kiss, Gu Li willingly handed her the reins.
Cupping the alpha’s face, she adjusted herself into a more comfortable position.
This kiss lasted longer than any before, leaving her breathless when they finally parted. Looking down at Gu Li’s features, she still couldn’t fathom why this person had suddenly become so straightforward.
“I really like you,” the alpha confessed with unprecedented directness.
Her ears echoed Jiang Dad’s words:
“Nian lost her mother early, and I, being an old-fashioned man, never had heart-to-heart talks with her. I thought fulfilling my fatherly duties was enough that she’d naturally understand my love. But after recent events, I realized life’s unpredictable. Every moment with family should openly express that love.”
“Miss Gu, I can see Nian cares deeply for you. Please take good care of her, thank you.”
These words, coupled with successfully securing her omega’s consent for engagement, freed her from suppressing her affection.
Jiang Nian, flustered by this newfound boldness, tried hiding in her embrace only for Gu Li to plant another firm kiss on her forehead. The alpha then carried her all the way home to introduce her fiancée to Gu Wei.
The CEO, rare for her, had cleared her schedule to wait at home. Seated in the living room, she immediately spotted Gu Li barging in with her precious cargo.
“Broad daylight, mind your manners,” she teased, tapping her coffee cup with amused reproach.
Jiang Nian scrambled down in embarrassment: “Auntie.”
Gu Wei’s sharp eyes caught the ring instantly. Side-eyeing the beaming alpha, she thought wryly:
So much for claiming the ring I picked up earlier might not be needed today clearly, it served its purpose.
A master strategist in business, the CEO chatted effortlessly with her future daughter-in-law. Their prior familiarity through Gu Li’s illness dissolved any awkwardness between them.
She successfully obtained Grandma Jiang’s phone number and, satisfied, prepared to discuss the two youngsters’ marriage with her, leaving the spacious living room to the couple.
The traces of their recent kiss still lingered on both of them. Gu Li secretly reached out, grasping Jiang Nian’s small hand.
The little omega hadn’t been back here for nearly three months. She could be considered a frequent visitor, as Gu Li’s condition required her blood for treatment. The two often stayed together in the isolation room under the pretense of helping Gu Li through her rut and breaking her dependency though during the final exam crunch before the college entrance exams, she had simply drawn blood and sent it over.
Glancing around, Jiang Nian seemed to recall something. “Your rut should be coming up soon, right? When is it?”
She rolled up her sleeve, ready to donate blood, but Gu Li pressed her arm back down. To spare the alpha’s pride and avoid disrupting Jiang Nian’s studies, Gu Li hadn’t yet told her that she had recovered.
“It’s soon, but… this time, I might not need Nian Nian’s blood.” She leaned in, resting her head on Jiang Nian’s shoulder and pulling her into an embrace.
“Hmm?”
“I’m better now. A normal alpha in rut might need an omega’s pheromones for comfort. Would Teacher Jiang be willing to stay with me?”
The head on her shoulder wasn’t heavy, but the tone carried a hint of a little girl coaxing her mother. The alpha nestled her chin against Jiang Nian’s shoulder, shifting left and right, her nose brushing against Jiang Nian’s neck as she greedily inhaled the milky tea scent seeping through the suppressant patch.
“You’re better?” Jiang Nian lifted her head, looking at her with delight. “It won’t hurt anymore?”
The face beneath her fingers was soft, and the alpha’s expression was obedient, much like the satisfied puppy look she wore every time Jiang Nian fed her by hand.
Gu Li nodded, only to have Jiang Nian pinch her cheek with one hand, forcing her lips to pucker.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I was worried you were in pain again because of that illness.” Jiang Nian retaliated by squeezing her cheeks, shaping her face into a little chick’s.
“Mm wanned to tell,” the alpha mumbled through pinched cheeks. “But dat day, Teacher Jiang…”
Teacher Jiang was too busy teaching me, I couldn’t get a word in before my mind was completely stolen.
And then, following every little thing Teacher Jiang showed her, they marked each other well into the night, held each other in the hotel until morning, and got caught up in a whirlwind of events afterward. In the rush, she’d forgotten to mention it.
If she hadn’t brought up the marking, it might have been finebut now the omega was even more flustered. What other little O was as foolish as her, willingly offering up all her vulnerabilities to be so thoroughly controlled during a marking?
“Ruts are just uncomfortable. Aren’t there suppressants? Give yourself a shot and tough it out.” The omega turned her head away, refusing to look at Gu Li’s smiling, crescent-moon eyes.
