Transmigrated as the Little Concubine of a Paper-Thin Man - Chapter 6
“Puff.”
It was a very faint sound, like a bubble floating to the surface of the water being popped, utterly insignificant amidst the clamor of the mountains, and easily missed if one wasn’t paying attention.
Yan Ling, however, suddenly stood up: “The first restriction has been broken.”
As she spoke, she frowned slightly, and the white silk patch tied over her face showed a faint red, clearly indicating that her wound was bleeding again.
Shi Yunjii placed one hand on her shoulder and reached the other towards her forehead.
But that hand was intercepted by Yan Ling mid-air: “We finally waited for the Divine Being to appear, why do those lowly maggots ruin our peace?”
As she spoke, the sound of a popping bubble rang out again. Shi Yunjii looked over and saw thick smoke had risen below at some point.
“Divine Being, give me a little time,” Yan Ling pleaded. “The sky is clear tonight, will you accompany me to watch the stars? I can barely remember when we last watched the stars together.
“I promise that by then, no more of these ants will come to disturb us.”
Shi Yunjii was startled.
Yan Ling gripped her hand: “Divine Being… Divine Being?”
At her repeated calling, Shi Yunjii squeezed Yan Ling’s palm in response.
Receiving a reply, a smile bloomed on Yan Ling’s lips. The smile was pure and untainted: “I’ll be back soon.”
With that, she let go of Shi Yunjii and turned to descend the mountain.
Despite the silk patch covering her eyes, Yan Ling’s movements were completely unimpaired, like a graceful butterfly fluttering through the forest. As the butterfly flapped its wings, a pleasant bell sound echoed through the mountains, light and melodious, gradually starting to overshadow the commotion below.
Shi Yunjii remained still for a while, her mind uneasy due to the disturbance from below the mountain. Unable to wait any longer, she carefully chose a mountain path and started to descend. Before long, the entire Lingling Peak shook violently. She was caught off guard and fell to the ground, about to slide down the steep slope. Just as her life hung in the balance, a hand grabbed the collar of her shirt from behind, saving her life.
“Ah—” A repressed gasp escaped her throat. Shi Yunjii looked back and saw Huan Zhu’s fox-like eyes.
“Little mute, what are you doing here?” Huan Zhu said with a smirk. “I thought a coward like you would have fled the mountain already.”
Shi Yunjii made a “thank you” gesture towards her, then pointed towards the bottom of the mountain.
Huan Zhu glanced down: “A group of people has attacked, and Yan Ling is dealing with it.” She leaned in mysteriously: “Do you know? Yan Ling seems to be heavily injured. Tsk tsk, that man is really calculating.
“You lot, ahem, I mean, cultivators always like to use the name of the righteous path, but when they turn ruthless, some of their methods make even demonic cultivators feel ashamed.”
Shi Yunjii looked at her in confusion.
“Guess who came to take advantage of the chaos?” Huan Zhu’s eyes narrowed into a smile. “Someone we just met a few days ago.”
A face immediately flashed in Shi Yunjii’s mind, and she used both hands to draw a square in the air.
“Right,” Huan Zhu didn’t keep her guessing. “It’s the male cultivator who sent Yan Ling the blueprints.
“That guy surnamed Zhou came fully prepared; he could even break the restrictions on this mountain. But it’s also thanks to him, otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to get up. Come on, let’s go up to the peak to take a look.”
Shi Yunjii was anxious and didn’t want to follow her at all; she turned her leg to keep running down.
Huan Zhu tightly gripped her arm: “What are you going for? Zhou brought quite a few people, Zhao Feng has been caught, are you going to feed yourself to them?” She pinched Shi Yunjii’s chin: “Be a good girl and follow me, if I’m in a good mood, I might even save your little life.”
Shi Yunjii was worried about Yan Ling but hadn’t lost her mind completely. After learning the situation below, she stopped struggling and turned back with Huan Zhu. Soon, the two arrived at the collapsed building where Shi Yunjii had found Yan Ling not long ago. Huan Zhu let go of Shi Yunjii and went inside to inspect, picking up a piece of shredded paper from the ruins one moment, and sniffing some powder she had scraped up from somewhere the next, with an extremely serious expression.
After a long while, she muttered with a frown: “This is bad, Yan Ling is going to suffer a setback this time; I need to find a way quickly.”
Hearing this, Shi Yunjii got up and looked at her anxiously.
But Huan Zhu’s next sentence immediately exposed her true nature: “Damn it, that guy surnamed Zhou is definitely going to take the item. Should I go and intercept him directly, or wait until he leaves the Feixian Sect?”
Shi Yunjii took a deep breath, and just as she was about to leave, she heard a “swooshing” sound of wind above her head. She looked up and saw seven or eight figures flying on swords rushing towards this location.
Huan Zhu returned to her side: “Yo, the sect reinforcements finally arrived. I thought they weren’t planning to care.”
She grabbed Shi Yunjii: “Let’s go, let’s watch the excitement.”
Shi Yunjii was seized by her and leaped several times. When she regained her senses, she realized the two had already left the mountain peak. Huan Zhu was not joking about “watching the excitement.” A moment later, she brought Shi Yunjii to a stop on the trunk of a towering tree. Shi Yunjii was about to express her confusion when, through the gaps in the branches, she saw two figures fighting in mid-air in the distance—
They were clearly Yan Ling and Zhou Huaibi, whom they had just met a few days ago.
The silk patch on Yan Ling’s face was completely stained red, with no trace of white remaining. Blood continued to seep from the corner of her eye, sliding along her jaw to her chin, then dripping down. On her beautiful face, the pale complexion and the glaring red blood formed a fragile, eerie aura. One look made Shi Yunjii’s heart slightly ache.
It had been a very long time since she had seen Yan Ling looking so battered.
Zhou Huaibi pointed his sword at Yan Ling from the air: “Yan Ling, you stole the ancient forging secret formula of this sect; no one can protect you now! If you want to live, give me satisfactory compensation.”
Yan Ling curled her lips in disdain: “What compensation?”
Zhou Huaibi pursed his lips, then said: “Give me the ‘Heart of Dao Box’.”
When he spoke the four words “Heart of Dao Box,” Huan Zhu leaned forward excitedly, her fox eyes practically glowing. Shi Yunjii took in her reaction completely and immediately guessed that Huan Zhu was also after this “Heart of Dao Box.”
However, she found it a bit strange: when did Yan Ling have this thing? Why had she never heard of it? Could it be a supreme treasure Yan Ling had accidentally obtained after she transmigrated?
Shi Yunjii continued to ask through gestures. Huan Zhu glanced at her and couldn’t resist sharing: “Actually, I don’t know what’s inside the ‘Heart of Dao Box,’ but for someone of Yan Ling’s strength to regard it as a supreme treasure, it must be an extraordinary natural treasure.
“The rumor is that anyone who obtains and opens the ‘Heart of Dao Box’ can immediately ascend to become an immortal.”
These descriptions left Shi Yunjii stunned, but she quickly reacted and shook her head heavily.
Cultivation was a challenging journey; how could there be a shortcut to immediate ascension? These exaggerated descriptions were probably just fabrications.
“That may be so…” Her feelings were almost written on her face, which Huan Zhu clearly saw. Huan Zhu stroked her chin. “But for something that Yan Ling treasures so much, it can’t be ordinary, right?”
