Transmigrated as the Husband of a Vicious Villainess - Chapter 7
Ji Baiqing stared at the tooth marks on her wrist for a few seconds before a thin smile played on her lips.
“Wen Miao, I just want to be your friend,” she said, looking up at the sky. “I really like your personality, though I can’t quite put my finger on exactly why.”
Hearing this, Wen Miao felt a sense of bewilderment. If Ji Baiqing liked her because of her looks, she could understand that after all, her beauty was exceptional, and few could compare. But as for “excellent qualities,” Wen Miao struggled to find any in herself.
Ji Baiqing had only known her for two or three days. How could she have seen anything “good”?
Unable to find an answer, Wen Miao decided to stop overthinking. She sat up on the grass, putting a little distance between herself and Ji Baiqing.
Changing the subject, she asked, “What made you think of bringing me here?”
Ji Baiqing’s lips curved. “Do you think it’s pretty?”
Wen Miao scanned the area critically before giving a reserved nod. “It’s alright.”
“This is my secret base,” Ji Baiqing explained. Her dark eyes were bright, and the smile never left her face. “Whenever I’m unhappy, I come here to sleep under the trees or just space out. My mood is always much better afterward.”
It was clear she truly loved this place.
Wen Miao, who loved all kinds of flowers, felt a sudden pang of longing for the roses in her family’s courtyard. “My yard back home is full of roses. Have you ever seen pink Begonia roses? When they bloom, the whole yard turns pink. They’re so fragrant and beautiful.”
Though she hadn’t been in Yunshui Village long, Wen Miao found herself missing the courtyard she had grown up in.
At her words, Ji Baiqing leaned toward Wen Miao’s shoulder, her nose twitching like a puppy’s as she caught the other woman’s scent.
Pushed by this boundary-crossing move, Wen Miao instinctively leaned back, her voice rising with annoyance. “Ji Baiqing! What are you doing?”
Ji Baiqing blinked innocently. “I was just checking if you smell like Begonia roses.” She paused. “I just caught a whiff—you really do have a rose-like fragrance.”
The crimson flush on Wen Miao’s face hadn’t faded. She reached out to push her further away, warning: “Don’t push your luck! Don’t suddenly get so close to me!”
Seeing that the girl was on the verge of anger again, Ji Baiqing could only nod obediently. She couldn’t help it; while she looked forward to being closer to Wen Miao, the “villainess” Miss Wen clearly had a strong sense of boundaries. Getting closer would have to wait until they had spent more time together.
The air here was exceptionally fresh. The bubbling of the stream and the chirping of sparrows harmonized perfectly, making it an ideal place to clear one’s head.
Ji Baiqing stole a glance at Wen Miao. In this environment, the girl had let her true self show; her profile was calm and gentle, making her seem much more approachable.
They stayed on the grass for a while. As work-end time approached, Ji Baiqing pulled Wen Miao up, and they headed back together. Although their interaction seemed the same as before, Ji Baiqing could feel that their hearts had grown a little closer.
After dinner, Ji Baiqing escorted Wen Miao back to the Youth Education Point as usual. She hadn’t walked far when she heard a heated argument breaking out at the station.
Frowning, Ji Baiqing immediately turned back, afraid Wen Miao was being bullied again.
As she strode into the compound, she saw five people surrounding Wen Miao, their expressions grim. Ji Baiqing stepped forward quickly, pulling Wen Miao into her arms to protect her, and demanded coldly, “What are you doing?!”
Seeing Ji Baiqing again, Shen Niannian’s expression twisted for a moment. Before she could speak, Lu Yan cut in.
“Wen Miao, I really didn’t expect that of everyone who came from Beijing, you would be the one with sticky fingers!”
Ji Baiqing’s blood boiled at the sight of his face. “Watch your mouth! What evidence do you have to say she’s a thief? I could just as easily say you’re a harlot!”
Though Lu Yan didn’t fully grasp the slang, he knew it was an insult. His face darkened instantly.
Wen Miao looked up from Ji Baiqing’s embrace, turned around, and leveled a cold gaze at them. “You claim I took Shen Niannian’s watch? Then find the evidence. Don’t just open your mouth to spew filth.”
Shen Niannian’s eyes were red. “Wen Miao, I’m begging you. Can you just give me my watch back? I saved for over two years to buy it…”
Wen Miao stared directly at her, her usually sultry eyes now cold as ice. “I said I didn’t take it, and I didn’t. Believe it or not.”
Pan Hongxia spoke up weakly from the back, “Arguing isn’t a solution. Let’s just check Wen Miao’s luggage and see if Niannian’s watch is there.”
Fang Haiyang’s eyes darted around as he agreed, “Good idea!”
Ji Baiqing looked at the five of them, almost laughing from sheer anger. “And what if it wasn’t Wen Miao who took it?”
Lu Yan snapped, “Stop making excuses for her! It has to be this vain woman!”
He saw how Wen Miao dressed beautifully every day, never wearing the same outfit twice. How could a decent family afford such luxury? To him, she was clearly a fickle, vain woman.
Noticing the person in her arms was breathing faster, Ji Baiqing soothingly stroked the back of her hand. Once Wen Miao had calmed down slightly, Ji Baiqing spoke:
“How about this: if Wen Miao didn’t take Shen Niannian’s things, you all owe her an apology. You’ll each write a 500-word apology letter and read it over the village loudspeaker.”
“As for you…” Ji Baiqing looked coldly at Lu Yan. “You will kneel directly to Wen Miao and admit you were spewing filth and that you were wrong.”
Hearing this, Wen Miao’s anger was replaced by a small, involuntary smile. She lightly scratched Ji Baiqing’s palm.
The veins on Lu Yan’s arms bulged. “Why am I treated differently than them?”
Ji Baiqing replied, “Because you have the foulest mouth.”
Before searching Wen Miao’s luggage, Ji Baiqing specifically went to get the Village Chief’s wife, Auntie Wang, to act as a witness. After Ji Baiqing went through Wen Miao’s things, she stated flatly:
“Shen Niannian’s watch isn’t here.”
The male youths weren’t allowed in the women’s room, but Shen Niannian and Pan Hongxia had been watching the entire time.
Lu Yan’s face was ugly. “Who knows if Wen Miao hid it somewhere else!”
Ji Baiqing ignored him and instead took in the various expressions of the others. “Since the item is lost, it might still be in this house. Let’s search everyone’s luggage.”
Wu Yanqing’s face went black. “How can you women enter a man’s room!”
Ji Baiqing and Auntie Wang shared a look. “Then we’ll start the search with Wu Yanqing’s luggage.”
Ultimately, they found Shen Niannian’s lady’s watch in Wu Yanqing’s trunk.
When Shen Niannian looked at him with red eyes, Wu Yanqing was still stubborn. “I… I found it on the ground! How was I supposed to know it was yours? If I find something someone lost, it’s mine!”
Fang Haiyang tried to play peacemaker. “Oh, we’re all fellow youths, let’s be more tolerant. Niannian, Wen Miao, don’t be so petty.”
“You weren’t saying that when you were slandering Wen Miao,” Ji Baiqing interjected leisurely, still holding Wen Miao’s hand.
Shen Niannian turned away, clutching her watch in silence.
Ji Baiqing turned to Lu Yan and said with a smile, “Youth Lu, it’s time for your apology.”
In front of everyone, Lu Yan punched the wall. The uneven mud plaster crumbled and fell. He growled, “Ji Baiqing, Wen Miao, don’t push me!”
Ji Baiqing’s face went completely cold. She let go of Wen Miao’s hand, took a step forward, and rubbed her wrist. “So… you want to go back on your word?” Her voice was incredibly chilling.
Watching the standoff, Wen Miao was worried the slender Ji Baiqing would come out the worse for it, but she stayed where she was. Though they had only known each other for a few days, she somehow felt that Ji Baiqing wasn’t the type to pick a fight she couldn’t win. If she dared to confront Lu Yan, she had the confidence to back it up.
Lu Yan looked at the woman, who was a head shorter than him, and let out a disdainful laugh.
Before he could speak, a fist landed directly on his jaw. Despite her slender frame, the woman’s strength was incredible, snapping his head to the side.
“You—!”
He opened his mouth to retaliate but was easily restrained by Ji Baiqing. A heavy punch landed on his cheek, grazing his high nose bridge. Instantly, two streams of bright red blood flowed from his nose.
He clutched his face and stumbled back, his face contorted in pain. What kind of monster is Ji Baiqing? How is she so strong!
The others present were stunned by the sight of the pathetic Lu Yan. Even Wen Miao was surprised, her red lips slightly parted in disbelief. Only Auntie Wang looked unbothered; she had even proactively pulled the other girls back a few steps earlier.
Ji Baiqing looked at Lu Yan and calmly rolled up her sleeves, revealing her firm forearms. “Can you apologize now?”
Lu Yan was starting to regret his earlier bravado. He clutched his nose, his eyes full of resentment. “I… I’m sorry!”
Halfway through, his pride wouldn’t let him continue. Ji Baiqing gave him a faint smile, and under the pressure of her gaze, Lu Yan finally succumbed.
“I was spewing filth. I… I was wrong.”
Wen Miao took a step forward to stand beside Ji Baiqing, looking at Lu Yan as if he were trash. She said, “I didn’t hear you. Louder.”
Lu Yan took a deep breath. “I was spewing filth! I was wrong!”
Ji Baiqing chuckled softly, patted Wen Miao’s head, and asked gently, “Is your anger gone now?” Her tone was soft and tender, completely different from the way she had just spoken.
Wen Miao nodded, then suddenly turned back to her room and brought out a small box. She opened it and took out the contents.
An exquisite lady’s mechanical watch was revealed. It was brand new, inlaid with small diamonds that caught the light. She dangled it by the strap in front of the five youths, her peach-blossom eyes curving with a cold, mocking look.
“I have my own watch. There’s no need for me to take anyone else’s.”
The strap gave a pleasant tinkling sound as it swayed. Wen Miao looked at Lu Yan with cold sarcasm. “I don’t know if you’re targeting me out of jealousy, but it’s a pity, I can have these things whenever I want. I don’t need to beg like a dog as you do.”
