- Chapter 32.1 - The Wealthy and Charismatic Disabled Alpha
Early in the morning, Ruan Nianning was brushing Huo Jianan’s hair.
Huo Jianan was dressed casually and comfortably in a set of elegant wool sweaters, topped with a soft coat.
Her shoulder-length hair cascaded softly around her shoulders as Ruan Nianning combed it repeatedly.
She had already brushed it four or five times, yet she continued, as if reluctant to let go.
“Wife, that’s enough. You’ll brush all my hair off if you keep going.”
“How could that happen? Your hair is so thick, soft, and smooth, just like in a manga.” Ruan Nianning gave it a few more strokes before stopping. As she stood up, she kissed Huo Jianan’s snow-white, bouncy cheeks and pinched them. “So cute! You’re too cute!”
Huo Jianan: “……” Is my wife treating me like a pet dog?
When she saw her glamorous, radiant, and windswept hairstyle in the mirror, Huo Jianan: “……”
My wife definitely thinks I’m a Afghan Hound.
Huo Jianan called Wang Baobao. “Baobao, I’m going to visit the film set today. Want to come with me?”
Wang Baobao seemed still asleep, his voice groggy and weak. “No, you go ahead.”
Huo Jianan was a little surprised. “I’m planning to return to Changbin tomorrow. Are you really not coming to the set today?”
“No, I’m not. What time is your flight tomorrow? Remember to tell me.” Her voice sounded weary.
“Baobao, what’s wrong? Did you get sick too?”
“I’m fine, just exhausted. I didn’t fall asleep until 5 AM.”
“What were you doing? Were you out committing crimes?”
“Yeah, I was out committing crimes.”
Huo Jianan: “……”
The crew members were meeting Huo Jianan—the wealthy wife of Ruan Nianning—for the first time.
They only knew that Ruan Nianning had married into Changbin’s most prestigious family, the Huo Family. Although her wife was a wealthy heiress, she was also a wheelchair-bound disabled person. The wedding photos splashed across the media only showed close-up shots of their upper bodies.
This had led some popular actresses, who also harbored dreams of marrying into wealth, to express their envy and resentment with bitter remarks like, “What’s so great about marrying into a wealthy family? She just married a cripple, didn’t she?” and “So what if they’re rich? Who knows how ugly or twisted they really are?”
Now that the real Huo Jianan had appeared on the set, she immediately caused a stir.
Miss Huo was seated in a wheelchair, but a wealthy young lady was still a wealthy young lady. In person, she was far more beautiful than in her wedding photos! Her meticulously chosen attire, elegant and noble demeanor, snow-white skin, and charming, gentle smile captivated everyone.
The crew was stunned. She was indeed disabled, but they hadn’t expected her to be such a strikingly beautiful and charismatic disabled Alpha!
Ruan Nianning pushed her wheelchair, introducing her to each person. Huo Jianan greeted everyone with a warm smile: “Hello! Hello… Director Zhang, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for your care and guidance of Nianning on set…”
Finally, Ruan Nianning wheeled her to the dressing room. “I want to introduce you to a good friend.”
Huo Jianan had a vague idea who it might be, but she smiled and teased, “So mysterious! Who’s this good friend?”
Ruan Nianning replied, “You’ll find out when you see them.”
Upon entering the dressing room, Ruan Nianning bypassed her own private dressing room and wheeled Huo Jianan into the adjacent one.
“Sister Song, Jianan is here to visit the set today!”
Song Shiyu, who was in the middle of getting her makeup done, startled and hastily turned around, still wearing her half-finished makeup. As expected, she saw Huo Jianan sitting in her wheelchair.
“Nianning, you really should have told me Miss Huo was coming to visit the set,” Song Shiyu said.
Huo Jianan replied, “Sister Song isn’t an outsider. Since you’re Nianning’s good friend, you’re my good friend too.”
Song Shiyu, slightly taken aback, slowly sat down, bringing her eye level closer to Huo Jianan’s. “I really didn’t expect Miss Huo to visit the set today.”
“It was a spur-of-the-moment decision,” Huo Jianan said. “I just wanted to see Nianning. I’m sorry for disrupting your filming.”
Song Shiyu smiled. “I should be the one apologizing. I couldn’t attend your wedding due to a family emergency at the time.”
Huo Jianan, who had seen Song Shiyu’s hit series Clear Song of the Long Night, was meeting the actress in person for the first time.
As expected of a top-tier superstar, Song Shiyu wasn’t just beautiful; she also radiated an imposing presence. She and Ruan Nianning represented two distinct styles of beauty: one as cool and detached as snow, the other cold and dazzling, with an unyielding stubbornness beneath even her warmest smile.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. You and Nianning are already so close anyway,” Huo Jianan said, her initial meeting with Song Shiyu filled with the excitement of meeting an idol. This was Mo Qingge! The Mo Qingge from Clear Song of the Long Night!
I never thought I’d actually meet Mo Qingge in person! And she’s still the original female lead from the book! Nianning and I were just minor characters barely mentioned.
Huo Jianan gazed at Song Shiyu with overwhelming admiration, captivated by the heroine’s aura.
Ruan Nianning chimed in, “That’s right, Sister Ning. We’re working together on a show now—like we’d ever run out of chances to see each other!”
Song Shiyu smiled. “When you have a baby, I’ll definitely attend the full moon celebration.”
Ruan Nianning’s expression stiffened momentarily, but she didn’t respond. Huo Jianan, however, beamed. “Yes! Sister Song, you must come! We’ll have the baby recognize you as their godmother.”
Song Shiyu readily agreed, her smile warm. “To be the godmother of Little Miss Huo… I owe this honor entirely to Nianning.”
“You and Nianning are practically sisters. You’re the perfect choice for godmother.”
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Ruan Nianning nodded along, her smile polite but her eyes betraying a troubled undercurrent. Song Shiyu noticed this, finding it slightly odd, but didn’t press the matter.
The makeup artist hurried over. “Sister Song, Sister Ning, we need to get you ready for makeup.”
Ruan Nianning pushed Huo Jianan out of the dressing room. “Jianan, I need to get ready. Why don’t we have Xiao Zhu take you to the car to rest?”
“No need. I’d rather watch you get ready.”
“What’s there to see?”
“I’ve never seen it before. I want to see how you transform from a modern beauty into an ancient one.”
Ruan Nianning couldn’t win the argument, and she was worried about leaving Jianan alone in the car where she might fall or get hurt, so she let her stay.
Huo Jianan transformed into a curious child, asking questions about everything she saw. Just then, her phone rang. Seeing it was Sister Meng, she immediately answered.
“Hello, CEO Meng. What brings you calling during work hours?”
On the other end, Meng Xien paused, then chuckled. “President Huo, you still remember it’s work time? How long are you planning to extend your vacation?”
“Haha, I’m returning tomorrow and will be back at work the day after. Back on the clock!” The thought of going back to work—perhaps she’d grown too accustomed to being a corporate drone—actually brought her a sense of long-lost familiarity.
As Huo Jianan spoke, she kept an eye on Ruan Nianning’s every move in the mirror. She even noticed the slight twitch of Ruan Nianning’s eyebrows when the makeup artist applied foundation.
Meng Xien asked, “How’s the injury on your head? If the bruise hasn’t faded yet, why don’t you stay a few more days with your wife before coming back?”
“It’s fine, it’s already faded quite a bit. It should be gone completely by tomorrow. Grandmother won’t notice.”
“What time is your flight? I’ll pick you up.”
“No need, Wang Baobao will escort me.”
Huo Jianan noticed that Ruan Nianning’s demeanor was perfectly normal—neither overly cautious nor visibly nervous. She only lowered her voice when speaking to the makeup artist because Jianan was on the phone. Everything seemed perfectly natural.
Clearly, the two hadn’t yet joined forces, or at least hadn’t developed any deeper connection.
Soon, Ruan Nianning finished her facial makeup and hair styling, and began changing into her costume. Xiao Zhu, the other assistant, and the stylist all swirled around her.
When Huo Jianan finally saw her fully transformed, she couldn’t help but stare, captivated.
Clad in vibrant red robes, Ruan Nianning radiated elegance and grace. Her skin glowed fairer than snow, and her eyes shimmered with brilliance—like a celestial being!
Noticing Jianan’s fixed gaze, Ruan Nianning flushed and cleared her throat.
Xiao Zhu and the other assistant snickered discreetly.
Huo Jianan snapped out of her daze, realizing her faux pas. Flustered, she scrambled to make conversation. “Wife, you look quite stunning in that historical costume.”
On the set, Huo Jianan watched Ruan Nianning suspended high above the ground by wires, her heart pounding. So high up, tethered by steel cables… what if something goes wrong? What if she falls or gets caught in the wires?
Fortunately, the wirework scene went smoothly. Jianan’s gaze followed her wife as she descended gracefully, her arc smooth and elegant, landing with the poise of a soaring crane. Only then did she feel her tension ease.
After landing, a flurry of choreographed combat scenes unfolded on the crowded set. With so many people moving around, Jianan, seated in her wheelchair, was isolated from the crowd and could only watch from a distance.
It wasn’t until the Director called “Cut!” and the crew took a midday break that Jianan finally had a chance to get closer.
What she saw startled her. Ruan Nianning, now dubbed “Wolfie,” stood with a sword piercing her chest, the blade exiting through her back.
She’s been stabbed clean through!
Jianan trembled with fear, while the “dead” Ruan Nianning chatted casually with Song Shiyu.
Noticing Jianan approaching, Ruan Nianning turned around, revealing a blood-streaked red costume and a flawless face marred by crimson streaks.
Though she knew it was just makeup, Jianan was still startled by the realistic battle damage. Her voice trembled as she asked, “Wife, are you alright?”
She was terrified that Wolfie might be gone forever.
“Scared you, didn’t I? It’s just a prop.” Ruan Nianning chuckled mischievously, flicking the sword lightly. There was no metallic clang.
Beside her, Song Shiyu, who was also resting and sipping water during the break—her own “wound” a vivid bloodstain soaking half her shoulder—smiled at Huo Jianan’s shocked expression. “Miss Huo, your first time witnessing this, isn’t it? How does it feel?”
Huo Jianan nodded. “This… this is truly… unconventional.”
Makeup artists swarmed around them, quickly retouching their faces to enhance the gruesome effect of their “injuries.” They mussed their hair, letting stray strands fall across their eyes, and smeared a mixture of ash and crimson blood-like paste across their foreheads and lips.
This is a waste of beauty, Huo Jianan thought to herself. Truly desecrating these lovely faces!
