Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
After Ji Wanqing left, Cen Xia received a call from Madam Ji, who mentioned something about a new bride returning home to her family. Only then did Cen Xia realize that it was almost the third day since she had arrived in this world. She had spent most of her time with Ji Wanqing and knew very little about the world’s background. Fortunately, her happiness value was increasing steadily.
She felt she could take another step forward, so when she hung up with Madam Ji, she made a risky request. She wanted to take this opportunity to take Ji Wanqing out for a walk. To her surprise, Madam Ji agreed, and she repeatedly urged Cen Xia to take good care of Ji Wanqing and to make sure she took her medicine on time.
After hanging up, Cen Xia came out of the music room and found Ji Wanqing looking out the French window again. Unlike before, the emptiness in her eyes was replaced with a sense of bewilderment.
Cen Xia tiptoed over and lightly patted her on the shoulder.
“What are you thinking about, little sister?”
Ji Wanqing’s thoughts were pulled back, and she looked up at her.
Cen Xia said, “Tomorrow is the day I return to my family’s home. Sister, why don’t you come with me?”
Ji Wanqing was caught off guard by the invitation. She was still thinking about what a “return home” meant.
Cen Xia suddenly leaned over, her red lips brushing past Ji Wanqing’s ear, and exhaled a warm breath. “The ‘return home’ is a ruse. I’m taking you out to have fun. We’ll be back before dark!” She then winked at Ji Wanqing, her bright eyes twinkling as if she were sharing a long-planned little surprise.
Ji Wanqing felt a slight tickle in her ear, and her body tensed. Her heart was also filled with a little bit of expectation.
Cen Xia, however, looked nonchalant. She slowly straightened up, habitually put one hand behind her back, and lightly tapped her nose with the other, looking as if she were in deep thought. “Let me think, where should we go?”
Ji Wanqing: …
She thought this girl had a perfect plan, but who knew she didn’t even know where to go? She was improvising on the spot.
Cen Xia thought for a few seconds, and her face lit up. “Oh, I’ve got it!” She turned around and looked at Ji Wanqing with her dark eyes. “How about a cat cafe? I’ve seen people online playing with cats, holding the small fluffy balls in their palms and roughing them up. They have so much fun, like with those yogurt dumplings.”
She began to imitate them. “Why are you like this, little cat? Why are you wearing such a low-cut V-neck shirt? I’m telling you, you’re just too good at this! Ow… You naughty little cat, you’ve understood the true meaning of temptation… ahahaha…”
Ji Wanqing’s pupils widened slightly at her devilish laugh.
Cen Xia continued with exaggerated movements. “It’s not about how much you wear, but about what you expose just right… Hey, look, look! This button, just button one. The whole belly is exposed. You little cat, who taught you these things… hmm?”
She seemed to have forgotten that the Douyin version of the goddess Shi Ji was not something that existed in this world, let alone that Ji Wanqing was a wealthy heiress, not a worker like her who could traverse the world with a cat and a laptop.
In the end, she was shooed out of the room. Even her lovingly made dinner was sent in by someone else.
Ji Wanqing didn’t want to talk to her at all now. Cen Xia’s demonic performance still lingered in her room. With just a little lapse in attention, she could still see the person gesticulating wildly.
After returning, Cen Xia did some research. After all, everything in this world was new to her, and Ji Wanqing was a public figure. Without proper preparation, taking her out could be risky.
By the time she had arranged the next day’s itinerary, it was almost 11 p.m. After washing up, Cen Xia saw that the light in Ji Wanqing’s room was still on. She took out her phone, opened WeChat, and lightly tapped on her profile picture.
Ji Wanqing was holding her phone in her hand. When she felt the vibration, she immediately turned on the screen.
Cen Xia sent a perfectly timed sticker of a cat’s head peeking out.
Ji Wanqing’s mood, which had just calmed down, was now unsettled again. She quickly poked her finger on the screen.
“What mischief are you up to now?”
Cen Xia sent a sticker of a cat “too excited to sleep.”
Ji Wanqing wanted to reply but found that she didn’t have any suitable animated stickers. She went online to search but couldn’t find a good one.
Cen Xia called her on the phone.
Ji Wanqing hesitated between answering and rejecting the call but finally chose to answer.
Her voice was normal this time. “Sister, we’re leaving at 9:30 tomorrow. You should get some rest and recharge!”
Ji Wanqing didn’t respond.
Cen Xia stood in front of the balcony window, waving at the third-floor room. “Sister, look, I’m across from you!”
Ji Wanqing looked over in the direction of her voice, and their eyes met.
Cen Xia explained the next day’s itinerary and asked for Ji Wanqing’s consent.
She still didn’t respond, as if she were consenting. Cen Xia chatted on and on by herself for a while before urging her, “Sister, it’s late. Go to sleep. I’ll watch you sleep!”
She guessed that Ji Wanqing, in her condition, probably suffered from insomnia. She had also experienced insomnia before and knew it was painful, so she stayed to talk to her a little longer.
Ji Wanqing was silent for a moment, then vaguely raised her arm and made a goodnight gesture before closing the curtains.
After all, Cen Xia was not from this world and had little contact with the lives of the wealthy. Everything was pieced together from the plot in the book and a useless system’s guidance, so there were bound to be some oversights in her plans.
Ji Wanqing originally had no intention of stepping out of her cage again, but without realizing it, that person involved her in everything she did. After getting the itinerary, she still put in the effort to make her own arrangements.
Early the next morning, Cen Xia got ready early. On her way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for Ji Wanqing, she ran into the Grim Reaper-like bodyguard from before.
The man greeted Cen Xia politely. “Miss Cen, the car is ready. I’m at your command anytime!”
Cen Xia wasn’t short; she was about 173 centimeters tall, but standing in front of him, she looked much shorter. She had to crane her neck to look up at him and felt a strong sense of pressure. She simply responded and hurried away.
Ji Wanqing was already ready. She was wearing a white dress today, her fatigue hidden by makeup. She sat upright in her wheelchair, occasionally glancing at the door, waiting for the “little kid” to open it for her.
When Cen Xia came in, she was holding a bowl of hot peppery soup. She had originally planned to make seafood porridge, but because she was short on time, she changed it to peppery soup. She had to admit, her cooking skills were indeed excellent. Ordinary ingredients, when prepared by her, somehow felt fresh and new.
Ji Wanqing looked at the flashy and sticky dish and couldn’t help but raise her hand.
—What strange concoction have you made to trick me today?
Cen Xia: …
She put the tray on the coffee table, set the spoon, and smiled mischievously. “Sister, this is peppery soup today.”
Ji Wanqing raised her hand.
—Is this another specialty from one of your colleagues’ hometowns?
Cen Xia stirred the soup with the spoon and held a spoonful to Ji Wanqing’s lips. She said, “Yes, Sister, you’re so smart. You guessed it right away. This is a specialty from a colleague in Henan.”
Ji Wanqing didn’t dwell on the location. Instead, she focused on the word “colleague.” She quickly made a hand gesture.
—You have so many colleagues!
Cen Xia giggled and moved the soup closer. “Want to try it?”
Ji Wanqing curled her tongue and tasted a mouthful. It was different from the lumpy soup from before. It was soft, smooth, rich in flavor, and had a hint of spiciness. It was delicious.
Cen Xia could tell at a glance that she liked it and kept pestering her.
“Sister, is it good?”
The young lady’s emotions were not easily discernible. She raised her hand and reluctantly made a gesture.
—It’s acceptable!
The weather outside was beautiful, and the sunlight streamed in through the French window. The breakfast created a fleeting sense of intimacy between them.
After breakfast, they set off. The driver was, of course, Tang Shaoyun, whom Cen Xia had mistaken for a bodyguard.
He was a man left by Ji Wanqing’s mother. He had been assisting her for so many years. He was a man of few words but was ruthless and had excellent execution skills. When Ji Wanqing was still in the company’s IT department, the two of them worked together and achieved many amazing feats.
After Ji Wanqing stepped down, he became the head of the IT department. Because he held high-tech knowledge and the IT department controlled the company’s core data, his position was irreplaceable. The Ji family couldn’t do anything to him.
He was a low-key person who didn’t show off, but his loyalty to Ji Wanqing was absolute. There was nothing she asked for that he couldn’t do.
Cen Xia was still not used to this life of luxury. After leaving the house, she felt much more relaxed. Even with Tang Shaoyun as the “bodyguard,” she didn’t feel as much pressure.
Music was playing in the car, and she occasionally hummed along. Her off-key voice was jarring to even a common person like Tang Shaoyun, let alone a singing diva like Ji Wanqing. He glanced at the young lady in the back seat.
Ji Wanqing sat quietly with her eyes closed, seemingly deaf to her noise.
Director Tang was stunned and couldn’t help but feel a little curious about this girl.
Cen Xia saw him looking at her and couldn’t help but start a conversation.
“Uncle, what’s your name? You look even more serious than Sister.”
Tang Shaoyun: Uncle? Did he look that old? He was only in his thirties. How did he become an “uncle” all of a sudden?
He didn’t answer her question, and there was a moment of silence in the car. Cen Xia didn’t seem to mind. She looked out the window and started humming again. “The weather is sunny today, and the scenery is beautiful everywhere…”
Ji Wanqing hadn’t used her voice for over a year. She suddenly felt a tickle in her throat and couldn’t help but cough.
Cen Xia’s singing stopped, and she quickly leaned over to pat her back.
“What’s wrong? What’s wrong? Are you carsick?”
Tang Shaoyun: …
Just as no one was speaking, the system “dinged.”
Host, she’s not carsick; she’s sicksing.
Cen Xia: Sicksing?
She had never heard of anyone getting sick from singing. But Ji Wanqing was different from others. After all, she was a singing diva, and it was normal for her to react like this after her voice had been damaged.
The system read her mind and added a cruel comment.
It’s because your singing is so “good.”
Cen Xia: …
Before she knew it, the car had exited the highway and was heading towards the suburbs. The book said that the Cen family had been developing the tourism industry in recent years, and there was a good scenic spot in the suburbs being developed. To avoid attracting attention, Cen Xia chose a cat cafe very close to the Cen family.
However, the news that Ji Wanqing was going to return to her family’s home with her quickly reached Ji Yanqing’s ears.
She threw a stack of documents on her desk, scattering them all over the floor. She frowned and scolded her subordinate in a severe tone.
“Ji Wanqing went to her family’s home with that little bastard? Say that again?”
