Transmigrated as the CEO's Top-Tier Stand-in - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Ji Yu’s breathing slowed slightly.
She used the tip of her tongue to lick the white cream that was smeared on her lips and face, tasting the perfectly appropriate sweetness. She lowered her eyes and smiled softly, then raised her arms to wrap them around Meng Rendong’s neck, answering slowly:
“No friend is celebrating a birthday.”
“I just made it casually. I planned to eat it myself.”
A strange thought flashed through Meng Rendong’s mind, but it was quickly suppressed. She was too drawn in by Ji Yu’s seductive demeanor. She pinched the other woman’s chin, meeting those beautiful, watery eyes that were already somewhat lost in desire, and said jokingly:
“Being seductive won’t work. Stop this, Ji Yu. If I find out you’re making friends you shouldn’t be making behind my back—”
Her voice dropped, getting closer and closer, her hot breath brushing against Ji Yu’s ear. Finally, as Ji Yu abruptly stiffened, Meng Rendong bit her ear as a warning:
“You don’t want to know the consequences, understand?”
Ji Yu nodded, not daring to flinch from her actions despite the pain. She just pressed against her, kissed her neck, like an obedient little rabbit, and replied according to her wishes: “No friends, only you. I like you the most.”
Meng Rendong absolutely couldn’t tolerate the way Ji Yu managed to sound alluring even when just speaking. She grabbed her waist, pushing her against the cold door.
It was over an hour later when Meng Rendong finally released Ji Yu.
The cake was ruined beyond recognition; there were fragments of bread and smears of cream all over the door panel and the floor in the entryway. Ji Yu was half-sitting on the floor, clutching her stomach, half-opening her eyes to recover from the lingering ache in her waist and legs.
Meng Rendong changed into slippers and walked inside, accidentally slipping on the cream on the floor. She turned back to look at Ji Yu, and seeing that she hadn’t gotten up to clean, she walked back and squatted in front of Ji Yu, reaching out to pinch her face:
“Baby, you’re the one who tempted me, you’re the one lying here without moving, and yet you’re the one still shirking the chore, hmm?”
Ji Yu subtly took a deep breath, smiled at her, and rubbed her cheek against her fingertips. Then, forcibly ignoring the discomfort in her abdomen, she stood up to get a rag from the kitchen to clean up the mess at the door, asking at the same time:
“Are you staying tonight?”
If she stayed, Ji Yu would have to think about tonight’s dinner menu.
It was a simple question, but Meng Rendong interpreted it as her trying to keep her. In the past, she would have changed her mind and gone back to her apartment, not wanting Ji Yu to be too clingy. But now that Chu Nanxing was staying in the apartment as a guest, it was inconvenient for her to go back and live with her. So, she sat on the sofa, glanced at Ji Yu, and then lazily replied:
“Staying. Not just today, I’ll be staying here this whole week. Happy?”
Ji Yu: “…”
She smiled and asked gently: “Then, how about I make you sweet and sour pork, sweet tomato scrambled eggs, serve it with water spinach, and simmer some mung bean sweet soup? Is that alright?”
Meng Rendong nodded, knowing that Ji Yu always understood her preferences. She thought it was probably due to similar tastes that Ji Yu was so proficient at these sweet-leaning dishes: “You decide.”
Having received her answer, Ji Yu continued to tidy the room. She carried the cake box to the kitchen and found about one-fifth of the cake batter left inside. She stared at it for a few seconds, then scraped it off with a cake knife and put it in her mouth. She carefully savored the taste, and a hint of relief and pleasure appeared in her eyes.
The cake recipe provided by the system was genuinely delicious when followed.
Next time, I’ll buy some pet ingredients and make it again.
The Corgi only came out of the room long after the commotion at the door had stopped, naturally missing the scene where Ji Yu’s cake was destroyed. It looked slightly disgruntled at Meng Rendong, who was visiting today, then wagged its tail and went to find Ji Yu. Since there was an outsider, it could only whine and circle around Ji Yu.
Meng Rendong sat on the sofa using her tablet to respond to some company matters. She occasionally looked up and saw the Corgi wandering around the kitchen. Suddenly, she asked:
“Does your dog shed?”
Ji Yu lowered her eyes and met the Corgi’s gaze. A few seconds later, the dog tucked its tail between its legs and sheepishly scurried out of the kitchen, standing in the living room and staring hatefully at Meng Rendong for mentioning the shedding. Just as Meng Rendong was about to ask if it bit people and if it had its vaccines, the Corgi barked loudly at her and sulkily retreated to its dog bed.
It didn’t reappear until the two of them finished dinner.
Once Meng Rendong went to wash up, Ji Yu cleaned the kitchen again and then carried the clean meat scraps left over from cooking to the balcony. She gently stroked the Corgi’s semi-round ear. The next moment, her hand was gently held by the dog’s mouth after it opened its eyes.
Ji Yu: “?”
The Corgi cautiously peeked around, noticed Meng Rendong wasn’t present, and then squeezed out a small voice from its throat to Ji Yu: “Happy birthday, Yuyu! Wishing you a happy birthday!”
Ji Yu’s heart stirred. She leaned down to hug it, kissed the dog’s head, her voice so gentle it sounded slightly teary: “Thank you.”
Since Meng Rendong stayed the night, the two naturally spent another night wrapped up together. As a result, Ji Yu, who had a part-time job at the art center, nearly overslept the next day due to lack of rest.
Meng Rendong smoothly instructed Uncle Zhang to detour and drop her off, but in the car, a stern questioning was unavoidable: “Why are you going to work? Is the money I give you not enough?”
Ji Yu moved her lips, about to explain something, when she noticed a notification pop up on her phone: “Your bank card ending in 4249 received a transfer of 100,000.00 at 8:10 AM on August 12th. Balance: 780,000.56 yuan.”
She stared at her phone for a long time before finally saying, “I’m just… bored.”
Meng Rendong put her phone away, turned to look at her, and asked with a half-smile: “Are you complaining that I don’t spend enough time with you?”
Ji Yu was stunned for a moment.
Fortunately, Meng Rendong didn’t wait for her answer this time. She leaned back against the seat, closed her eyes to rest, and said casually: “Alright, if you want to ‘play,’ go ahead and play. But if you feel wronged or unhappy, stop doing it.”
Ji Yu quietly replied: “Mhm.”
After Ji Yu thanked Uncle Zhang and got out of the car, Uncle Zhang turned the car around and drove toward Huangting.
Meng Rendong leaned her head to look out the car window and saw Ji Yu stopping in front of a sign that read “Children’s Art Center.” She suddenly raised an eyebrow, recalling Ji Yu’s comment the day before at the bar about having no talent.
No talent, so why work at a children’s center? As a receptionist?
Thinking this, Meng Rendong chuckled for two seconds, but didn’t bother disturbing her little lover’s relaxing activity. She proceeded to the company. Because Chu Nanxing wanted to enter the entertainment industry, she planned to meet with her managers today, personally select a suitable team for Chu Nanxing, review the contract, and in the afternoon, talk with Wang Luoshui about the program their website was launching. After all, it was time to promote the new batch of trainees from Huangting.
After exiting the elevator, Xue Lian followed her and said, “CEO Meng, Miss Chu came looking for you earlier. She’s in the office now.”
Thinking of Chu Nanxing’s anxious and stubborn personality, Meng Rendong sighed lightly: “Got it.”
She said, “Help me call over the managers who handle the trainees… also, please invite Kong Rufan.”
Kong Rufan was the face of Huangting, currently managing a pillar of the film industry who had just won a Best Actress award last year and was considered Huangting’s top star. Kong Rufan herself was a first-class manager, having cultivated two major social media stars and one megastar. Her invitation, therefore, spoke volumes.
Xue Lian secretly gasped, thinking about the luxurious treatment Chu Nanxing was receiving—the best resources right upon debut.
As she thought, she noted these tasks, and also reminded herself to schedule the meeting with Wang Luoshui. As they spoke, they reached the office door. Xue Lian quickly checked her memo and added one more thing:
“Oh, right, CEO Meng.”
“I was on vacation yesterday and forgot to remind you. Yesterday was Miss Ji’s birthday.”
Meng Rendong’s hand, pushing the door open, froze.
She turned to look at Xue Lian behind her.
Feeling her superior’s gaze, sharp as a steel knife, scraping across her, Xue Lian couldn’t help but bite her tongue, cursing her own lack of foresight. No matter how much she looked down on Ji Yu, the woman was still by Meng Rendong’s side. Now, due to her momentary lapse, if she caused her superior trouble with her lover, she would be the first one to be disciplined.
Meng Rendong thought back on all the events of yesterday, including the cake with the birthday plaque, and felt a rare surge of regret.
Because her assistants always kept track of her lovers’ preferences, she had never put any thought into it herself. Now, recalling Ji Yu’s behavior yesterday, she felt a twinge of guilt about her role as a sugar parent for the first time.
Upon careful reflection, Ji Yu’s birthday was indeed in the summer.
“Your bonus for this month is withheld. Don’t let it happen again—”
Meng Rendong said coldly.
Xue Lian didn’t dare to lift her head, and then heard her continue: “Help me book the top floor Huaiyang cuisine restaurant in the city center tonight. Choose the slightly sweeter set menu, and order a few different types of cakes.”
Meng Rendong carefully recalled the things her previous girlfriends had liked:
“Also, have the brand in France air-freight some imperial handcrafted chocolates over. Have them all delivered to the restaurant tonight.”
