- Chapter 2 - Rude Slacker Students Don’t Deserve My Class
When Gan Lu woke up, she found herself in a hospital bed with an IV drip connected to her hand.
She blinked, shaking her groggy head to clear the cobwebs, and the events of the previous night came rushing back. She couldn’t help but mutter under her breath, “Is that woman seriously ‘incapable,’ or is she just some kind of saint?”
Just then, a nurse arrived to change her medication. Gan Lu immediately seized the opportunity. “Where is Pei Suyu?”
The nurse shook her head. “Are you talking about the lady who brought you in? Tall, lean, chestnut short hair… looked like a rather stern Alpha?”
The description fit Pei Suyu perfectly. Gan Lu nodded eagerly. “Yes, that’s her. Where did she go?”
The nurse gave her a complicated look, hesitating before she spoke. “She’s probably at the police station.”
“Huh?” Gan Lu was floored. “What’s she doing at the police station?”
Seeing Gan Lu’s calm reaction, the nurse realized there had been a misunderstanding and explained patiently, “Your pheromones were in total disarray when you arrived. It looked like a textbook case of a forced heat induction. Since you were unconscious at the time, our Chief of Medicine called the police as a safety precaution.”
Gan Lu’s brain was still playing catch-up. She looked bewildered. “But what does that have to do with Pei Suyu going to the station?”
The nurse sighed. “She was likely taken in to give a statement. After all, when a lone Alpha carries a delirious Omega into a hospital—especially one who looks as young as you—no one takes chances.”
“I’m an adult,” Gan Lu snapped. She clearly hated being called “little.”
The nurse had a moment of realization but still felt the need to offer a warning. “Even if you are an adult, you shouldn’t be reckless. Girls your age sometimes agree to anything just to please an Alpha, but in the end, it’s your own body that pays the price.”
What on earth are they imagining?!
Gan Lu finally connected the dots. First, they thought Pei Suyu was a predator; now, they thought she and Pei Suyu were a couple who had taken things a bit too far.
She cut off the nurse’s wild imagination with an annoyed huff. “When will the IV be finished? Pei Suyu is still at the station!”
Seeing her distress, the nurse kindly sped up the drip. Gan Lu, however, was like an ant on a hot skillet. The moment the needle was out, she ignored the doctor’s protests and bolted toward the police station.
At the Police Station.
Through a glass partition, Gan Lu saw Pei Suyu sitting in an interrogation chair. Her back was rested against the chair, her eyes closed, looking thoroughly exhausted.
Gan Lu rushed to the officers. “Officer! It’s a misunderstanding! Someone drugged me with a pheromone inducer at the bar. Pei Suyu saved me! Please, let her go!”
A female Omega officer stepped over to calm her down. “Don’t worry. We’ve reviewed the surveillance footage. Your story matches Miss Pei’s. She just needs to sign some paperwork and she’s free to go.”
The officer entered the room and led Pei Suyu out, offering a polite apology. “I’m sorry for the trouble, Miss Pei. You’re free to go. We were just following protocol. We hope that once we apprehend the suspects, you’ll be willing to come in and identify them.”
“I understand. Am I clear to leave now?”
Pei Suyu maintained a polite facade, but her annoyance was visible. No one enjoys being treated like a criminal after saving someone’s life.
“Of course,” the officer said, then added, “I noticed you’re a teacher. Would you like the department to issue a ‘Good Samaritan’ commendation? It might help with your professional titles or promotions later on.”
The officer’s thoughtfulness boosted Pei Suyu’s mood slightly. She didn’t decline the offer. After exchanging contact information, she headed for the exit.
The moment she stepped outside, she saw the “troublemaker” loitering by the door. Pei Suyu felt a headache coming on. Since the girl was clearly fine now, she decided to pretend she hadn’t seen her and kept walking.
She had only taken two steps when Gan Lu’s muffled, kitten-like voice called out, “Pei Suyu! I’m right here! Can’t you see me?”
Pei Suyu feigned deafness and quickened her pace.
“Hey! Can’t you hear me? Wait up!”
Gan Lu chased after her. Pei Suyu finally gave in and stopped. Gan Lu, unable to brake in time, crashed straight into her arms. The top of her head landed perfectly against Pei Suyu’s chin—a textbook height difference.
Feeling a dull ache in her jaw, Pei Suyu straightened the reckless girl out. “Is there something you need?” she asked, her voice a flat line.
Gan Lu was flushed and breathless from the run. She froze for a moment before managed to squeeze out, “Thank you for saving me.”
“You’re welcome,” Pei Suyu replied curtly. She glanced at the girl. “Anything else? If not, I have things to do.”
Gan Lu opened her mouth to speak, but ended up just reciting a phone number. “I lost my phone. That’s my number. Make sure you call me. My family is very wealthy; I’ll have my parents reward you properly.”
“Fine. I’ve got it.”
Pei Suyu humored the girl’s earnest desire to repay her. Whether she actually called or not was her choice. After a moment’s thought, she handed Gan Lu a hundred-dollar bill for a taxi and waved goodbye.
Watching her leave, Gan Lu immediately hailed a cab to the Great Deer Building. When she arrived, she hesitated for a second before tucking the hundred dollars into her pocket.
She told the driver, “Wait here for a minute. I’ll send someone down with your fare, okay?”
The driver, seeing she was well-dressed and didn’t look like a scammer, agreed easily.
Inside the building, Gan Lu dispatched a secretary to pay the driver and headed straight for the CEO’s office on the top floor. The moment the elevator doors opened, the girl’s nose crinkled and the tears started flowing.
“Mom! Someone bullied me! You have to get them for me!”
At the sound of that piteous voice, a stylish woman in her thirties came running out of the office. Dressed in a sharp black-and-white professional suit with her hair in a flawless bun, she radiated the aura of a high-powered executive.
She rushed to pull Gan Lu into a hug, her intimidating aura softening instantly. “Oh, my baby! Don’t cry. Tell Mommy, who bullied you?”
Gan Lu wiped her teary, doe-like eyes on her mother’s high-end suit. She spilled everything that had happened the night before—though she strategically omitted being taken to Pei Suyu’s house to be “abused” with cold showers. She only mentioned a kind sister who had saved her.
A flash of ruthlessness crossed Gan Feng’s eyes. She gently led her daughter into the office and barked an order to her personal secretary, “Lin Ming! Get someone to investigate that bar immediately. I want the people who touched Lu Lu found, even if you have to dig three feet underground!”
As the secretary turned to leave, Gan Lu stopped him. “Brother Lin, I lost my phone too. Have someone replace my SIM card; I need it.”
“On it,” Lin Ming replied, closing the door behind him.
Exhausted from the ordeal, Gan Lu collapsed onto the sofa. Gan Feng hurried over, checking her daughter over with frantic eyes.
“Honey, let me look at you.” A shadow of worry crossed Gan Feng’s face. “Inducers can be very dangerous for a newly-matured Omega. You don’t have any lingering symptoms, do you?”
“I don’t think so,” Gan Lu replied, though she sounded uncertain. She had bolted from the hospital the moment she thought of Pei Suyu, without even looking at her charts.
Gan Feng knew her unreliable daughter too well. “No. I’m arranging for the city’s best doctors to give you a full consultation.”
While her mother was on the phone, a bored Gan Lu logged into her accounts on her mother’s tablet. She was immediately bombarded with messages.
[Boss, where are you? Come out!!]
[You… you didn’t go missing, did you? If your mom finds out I took you to that bar, she’ll kill me.]
[My ancestor, I beg you… just send me a reply?]
Her best friend Jing Yu’s messages were endless. Seeing that this “friend” only realized she was missing after so long, Gan Lu angrily muted her.
She scrolled down, only to find a wall of notifications for her online classes. It was infuriating.
Yes, Gan Lu was a “slacker”—the kind currently repeating her senior year. Even after five different tutors, her grades remained abysmal. The entire Gan family had almost given up on her. Normally, a rich second-generation kid like her would just go abroad to “garnish” their resume, but the family was too protective. Gan Lu had gone missing when she was five and wasn’t found until she was eight; since then, the guilt-ridden family had spoiled her rotten.
Unfortunately, that upbringing had stunted her common sense. She had grown into a “Silly-White-Sweet”—the kind of girl who would be eaten alive by the world if she ever left the Gan family’s protection. Her family’s only requirement was for her to get into any university and then come home to live a life of leisure. But Gan Lu had her pride. She swore she would get in on her own merit or not at all.
Hence, her glorious status as a “repeater.”
Looking at the flashing class notifications gave her a literal migraine. She swiped irritably at the screen and accidentally clicked into a live session.
The teacher on the screen shocked her to her core.
It was Pei Suyu.
Gan Lu instinctively sat up straight. She watched as Pei Suyu, wearing a professional, practiced smile, spoke to the camera: “Hello, everyone. My name is Pei Suyu. You may call me Teacher Pei. Since Teacher Lin is on maternity leave, I will be taking over the online classes for Class 9-3. I hope everyone studies hard so you can get into your dream universities.”
After a brief introduction, Pei Suyu began taking attendance. Gan Lu listened nervously as names were called until…
Pei Suyu drew out the last syllable. “Student Gan Lu~”
Gan Lu clumsily connected her mic and blurted out, “Pei Suyu—”
“Mm?” Pei Suyu’s voice came back low and warning. Gan Lu could practically see her stern face through the screen and swallowed the last syllable of her name, whimpering out a soft, “Teacher Pei.”
Pei Suyu was silent for a few seconds. Her voice grew colder. “Student Gan Lu, you’ve been absent quite a lot lately. Are you very busy?”
Being called out in front of the whole class made Gan Lu’s rebellious streak flare up. “The lectures are boring,” she snapped. “I don’t want to listen. It’s a waste of time. I’d rather sle—”
Before she could finish “sleep,” Gan Lu realized her mic had been muted. A second later, a notification popped up: You have been removed from the session.
She was stunned. Pei Suyu had actually kicked her out.
On the other side of the screen, Pei Suyu leaned back and gave a lazy smile. Seeing Gan Lu’s name had been a surprise, but the kick had been entirely intentional. Surely a proud young lady like her would go complain to the school now?
With any luck, she’d never have to teach Gan Lu again. Perfect.
