- Chapter 16 - You Actually Have Abs!
Jiang Huiyun?
But the woman who had introduced herself as Gan Hu’s girlfriend clearly called herself Yu Wen.
Was Gan Hu really playing a game of “two-timing”?
Pei Suyu sank into thought, frantically searching her memories of the novel. She had zero impression of a character named Yu Wen, but the name Jiang Huiyun rang a faint bell—though since she had skimmed the book so quickly, the details remained frustratingly elusive.
Is Gan Hu planning something again?
Noticing Pei Suyu’s furrowed brows, Gan Lu interrupted her thoughts. “Teacher Pei, what is it? What are you thinking about?”
Pei Suyu shook her head. Recalling the heated scene she had just witnessed, she decided she needed to give this “Silly-White-Sweet” girl a reality check. With Gan Lu’s current IQ, she’d be chewed up and spat out by Gan Hu before she even knew what hit her.
She organized her thoughts and asked tentatively, “What do you really think of your sister?”
“My sister is amazing!” Gan Lu began, her eyes lighting up. “She’s been gentle and sensible since she was a kid. She’s so smart; she picks up everything instantly—piano, horse riding, skiing… she even got recommended for admission to Kyoto University on her own merit.”
As she spoke, Gan Lu’s voice suddenly trailed off. Something seemed to click in her head, and she whipped her head around to stare at Pei Suyu, her doe-like eyes wide with shock. “Teacher Pei… you…”
Seeing her suddenly speechless as if the sky were falling, Pei Suyu asked, puzzled, “What?”
Gan Lu completely wilted. She hung her head, biting her lip, her voice trembling on the verge of tears. “You… you didn’t fall for my sister, did you?”
Pei Suyu was floored by this leap in logic. Even with her quick reflexes, she was rendered momentarily speechless.
When no denial came, Gan Lu took the silence as a “yes.” Her chest heaved with indignation, and tears began to pool in her dark eyes. She sat bolt upright as if preparing to argue her case.
But then, as if remembering something, her courage vanished. She slumped back into her seat, shrinking into herself like a frightened quail.
Pei Suyu, focusing on the road while stealing glances at the girl’s dramatic facial expressions, didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Lost in her own tragic thoughts, Gan Lu stared fixedly at Pei Suyu’s profile. Her voice was as faint as a mosquito’s buzz. “Teacher Pei… please don’t like my sister, okay?”
“I know she’s better than me at everything. She’s gentler, more sensible, smarter… but I have good qualities too! I’m more…” Gan Lu thought long and hard, only to discover in despair that she truly had nothing she could successfully use to compete with her sister.
How am I this useless?
Pei Suyu sensed that Gan Lu was particularly fragile and sensitive today. She decided to stop teasing her and offered a light, encouraging smile. “You’re prettier than she is.”
Gan Lu perked up instantly, her tear-filled eyes sparking with hope. She asked for confirmation: “Really?”
“Really. You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.”
She meant it. Gan Lu had striking features—vibrant eyes, a pert nose, and plush red lips. She still had a touch of childish charm, and even when she was angry, she looked adorable. In a few years, once her features fully matured, she would undoubtedly be a stunning, “vibrant-type” beauty.
Pei Suyu couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Thank god she has that face. It allows her to be called ‘Silly-White-Sweet.’ Without it, with a personality this troublesome, people would just find her insufferable.
Buoyed by the compliment, Gan Lu sat back contentedly. She even touched her own cheek with a hint of vanity before huffing, “Seriously, why were you asking about my sister out of nowhere? You gave me a heart attack.”
Pei Suyu, having completely lost to Gan Lu’s overactive imagination, gave up on subtlety. She went straight to the point. “I don’t think your sister is as simple as she seems. At the very least, she isn’t the ‘perfect’ person you see.”
“Teacher Pei, what do you mean by that?” Gan Lu’s eyes went wide, and she instinctively defended her sibling. “Sister is wonderful!”
She envied her sister’s excellence and felt a bit of insecurity—maybe even a tiny bit of secret jealousy—but in her heart, Gan Hu had always been the kind sister who looked after her.
Seeing the reaction, Pei Suyu knew Gan Hu’s mask was flawlessly maintained. One or two sentences wouldn’t shake Gan Lu’s deep-rooted perception. She didn’t reveal Gan Hu’s more sinister plots yet, but she did tell her about what she had seen tonight.
“Since your sister is capable of two-timing like that, she clearly isn’t as ‘perfect’ as you think,” Pei Suyu said, trying to guide her gently. “Lu Lu, sometimes people aren’t as simple as they appear on the surface. You should be more careful when dealing with others, or you’re the one who will end up suffering.”
Pei Suyu wasn’t sure how much the girl would take to heart, but she felt it was necessary to help her grow. After spending so much time with her, Pei Suyu realized Gan Lu wasn’t naturally malicious; she just hadn’t been taught how to navigate the world.
Just like now—after hearing Pei Suyu’s words, Gan Lu spent a long time in a stunned daze. Then, she began to complain indignantly. “How could Sister do that? Think of how sad Sister Jiang would be if she found out! That’s just too much!”
Pei Suyu felt a sense of relief. She might be dim, but at least her moral compass isn’t broken. There’s hope for her yet.
With the “Perfect Sister” filter shattered, Gan Lu’s righteous indignation flared. “No way! Even if she’s my sister, I can’t cover for her. I have to call Sister Jiang and tell her the truth.”
The hot-headed girl reached for her phone immediately.
By this time, the car had entered the apartment complex. Pei Suyu quickly stopped her impulsive move. She parked the car and sighed at Gan Lu’s confused expression.
This rigid, black-and-white personality was truly a headache. Her intention was for Gan Lu to be wary of her sister, not to go meddling in others’ affairs.
She led the girl back up to the apartment, while Gan Lu continued to pester her. “Teacher Pei, why won’t you let me tell Sister Jiang? This is wrong!”
Pei Suyu pressed a hand to her forehead. “In the adult world, not everything has to be exposed. Sometimes, speaking the truth only makes things more awkward for everyone. Do you understand?”
“I don’t,” Gan Lu shook her head honestly.
“It’s your sister’s private business. Just stay out of it.” Pei Suyu gave up on the ideological bridge-building and changed the subject. “So, why did you call me so late?”
At the reminder of her original grief, Gan Lu’s piteous expression returned. She reached out to grab Pei Suyu’s hand, acting spoiled. “Let’s go to your room. I’ll tell you slowly, okay?”
Caught by those “begging puppy” eyes and that sweet, soft voice, Pei Suyu found her defenses crumbling. She allowed herself to be pulled into the bedroom.
Gan Lu snuggled obediently into the covers. Pei Suyu lay down on the edge of the bed beside her, turning onto her side. As she moved, her shirt rode up slightly, exposing a sliver of her waist. Gan Lu’s eyes lit up, and her hands began to wander with newfound boldness.
Pei Suyu caught the girl’s wandering, fair little hand and looked at her with narrowed eyes. “Don’t misbehave.”
Gan Lu’s gaze was fixed on the Alpha’s waist, her eyes wide with wonder. “Teacher Pei! I didn’t know you actually had abs! How did you get them? They look so good…”
As she spoke, her pheromones began to stir restlessly once again.
