Transmigrated as a Scummy Alpha: The Wife-Chasing Crematorium - Chapter 7
Pei Yu had a very close relationship with her parents. Back when the original Shen Luoxi was in charge, Pei Yu was only allowed to see them once every three months. Now that she had been granted her freedom, her parents were the only people on her mind.
After settling those matters, Shen Luoxi left the guest lounge to take over the company’s operations, aiming to clear a smooth path for Pei Yu’s future career.
The new manager she assigned to Pei Yu was a veteran employee named Zhou Jing. Usually, Zhou Jing only managed minor actors; someone of Pei Yu’s caliber was normally far out of her reach. Perhaps because she had worked her way up from the bottom, she was known for her excellent interpersonal skills and was famous within the company for her good temper. Moreover, Zhou Jing was currently in need of money and looking for a promotion, making this the perfect opportunity.
Knock, knock.
The secretary entered and said, “President Shen, Zhou Jing is here.”
The secretary stepped aside, and Zhou Jing walked in. She stopped before the desk, her posture upright and professional.
As expected, Shen Luoxi thought, good people are much easier on the eyes.
The secretary closed the door as she left. Shen Luoxi gestured toward a seat. “Sit. I called you here to discuss Pei Yu’s career.”
“Alright,” Zhou Jing replied, pulling out a chair.
At 9:00 PM, Shen Luoxi left the office. The driver had the car waiting downstairs. Just as she pulled open the back door to get in, a voice called out from nearby.
“President Shen.”
Shen Luoxi turned around. It was Sun Xingchao. Why was he here so late instead of being at home?
“Is something wrong?” she asked.
Sun Xingchao gave a slight nod. “Miss, the Elder Mrs. Shen sent you a message asking you to come home, but you didn’t reply. She specifically sent me to fetch you.”
A message?
Shen Luoxi pulled her phone from her pocket and scrolled through. Indeed, there were messages from someone labeled “Mom.”
Mom: Come home. Mom: Be home by 10:00 PM.
The notifications for this contact had been muted, and since she hadn’t checked WeChat much today, she had missed them entirely.
“Fine,” Shen Luoxi agreed readily.
Sun Xingchao was momentarily stunned. In the past, the young mistress was never willing to go back. Why was she agreeing so easily now? He needed to inform the Madam.
Shen Luoxi put her phone away. Before getting in, she told him, “Ride with me. I happen to have something I want to discuss with you.”
“Of course.” Sun Xingchao stepped forward to hold the door for her.
An hour and a half later, they arrived at the suburban villa. The car pulled up in front of a white mansion. Beside the driveway, a five-meter-wide fountain danced with the garden lights, its waters rising and falling.
Sun Xingchao opened the door for her. As Shen Luoxi stepped out and looked at the luxurious estate, she felt overwhelmed by the sheer opulence.
“Miss, after you,” Sun Xingchao gestured.
Shen Luoxi took a step up the stairs but suddenly stopped. She stared at the magnificent, gilded interior and the rows of bodyguards standing on either side of the entrance. She couldn’t help but swallow hard.
Was the Shen family always like this?
In the novel, although the parents were strict and disappointed in their daughter, there was never any mention of the house being packed with this many bodyguards. Why was the plot suddenly acting so irrationally?
“Miss, is something the matter?” Sun Xingchao asked.
Shen Luoxi cleared her throat and lowered her voice. “You… you go in first. I need to send a message.”
“Understood.” Sun Xingchao walked ahead.
Shen Luoxi followed closely behind him, her eyes darting nervously toward the tall, muscular bodyguards. She prayed she could handle the parents and pass this test.
When Sun Xingchao led her into the living room, she found her parents sitting regally on the sofa. Pei Yu was there too.
Wait, didn’t Pei Yu go home to see her own parents? Why is she at the Shen house?
But what surprised Shen Luoxi even more was the line of five bodyguards standing directly in front of the trio. Each man was over 190cm tall, their pectoral muscles bulging against their shirt collars.
“Ahem.” Shen Luoxi couldn’t help herself. This was truly a scene straight out of a novel; the spectacle was grand enough.
However, as she peered through the gaps between the bodyguards, she noticed her parents glancing at her before quickly looking away in a panic. Including the ones at the door, there were over thirty bodyguards in the villa. At first, she thought it was just a new plot element, but now she realized—these thirty-plus bodyguards were there to protect them from her!
Shen Luoxi was utterly speechless. She sighed and put her hands on her hips. The moment she moved, the bodyguards tightened their formation, fearing she was about to attack.
Her sense of absurdity doubled. But on second thought, given everything the original Shen Luoxi had done, it was only natural for her parents to be on guard. Even if “tigers don’t eat their cubs,” there was no guarantee a cub wouldn’t eat its parents. It was better to be safe.
Trying to keep things light, Shen Luoxi spoke up from across the room. “Mom, Dad, I’m back. How have you been lately?”
Her parents exchanged a glance before leaning toward Pei Yu and whispering, “Xiao Yu, am I hearing things? Did Shen Luoxi just… greet us properly? That’s a first in years.”
Pei Yu sat politely. “Luoxi has changed quite a bit recently. Her personality has softened,” she replied honestly.
Shen’s mother let out a puzzled hiss. “That’s a massive change. Usually, when she comes back, she’s either demanding money or smashing things. Once, she almost set the house on fire. And today Old Sun told me she actually started working?”
Shen’s father tilted his head to look past the wall of bodyguards, scanning his daughter from head to toe. She didn’t look different, she still had that arrogant, rebellious air about her.
Pei Yu shook her head. “I don’t know.”
“I think she’s faking it,” the father whispered back. “As they say, a leopard doesn’t change its spots. She’s probably just after our inheritance.”
“That makes sense,” the mother agreed.
The living room was large, but their voices weren’t exactly quiet. Shen Luoxi forced a smile. “Mom, Dad, why did you call me back? May I sit down and talk?”
“No, no!” the mother rejected instantly. “Just stay right there. Don’t come any closer.”
“…Fine.” Shen Luoxi compromised, even taking a few steps back to put them at ease.
The mother straightened up and tilted her head back. “Listen, Shen Luoxi. I called you back tonight because I have something to say to you.”
Shen Luoxi remained perfectly polite. “Please, go ahead. I’m listening.”
The mother felt a bit unsettled by the sudden politeness. “Well… I heard you went to the company? And that you made some personnel changes.”
“Yes,” Shen Luoxi admitted openly.
“But you never cared about the business before. Why the sudden interest in management?”
The mother was genuinely curious. It was just as the father said—leopards don’t change their spots—but what if she actually had changed?
It was a simple question, yet Shen Luoxi found herself stuck. She looked through the gaps between the guards. Pei Yu was sitting sideways, her white shirt accentuating her delicate features. Those hands resting on her knees had once cooked a meal for the original Shen Luoxi—a simple fried rice—and the original character had actually cried.
When reading the book, Shen Luoxi hadn’t understood why such a scumbag would be moved by a simple meal. The comments called them “crocodile tears.” She had assumed the character was crying for herself. Even in the finale, the author never explained that reaction.
But now, she thought she understood.
“Because of Pei Yu,” Shen Luoxi answered suddenly.
All three listeners were stunned. Especially Pei Yu; she turned her head and met Shen Luoxi’s gaze. Her eyes were clear and bright, looking nothing like before. She truly seemed like a different person.
“For Pei Yu?” the mother asked. “Don’t you usually belittle and hit her? Why the sudden change of heart?”
Talking through a wall of bodyguards was inconvenient. Shen Luoxi tried to walk around them, but the guards shifted with her. Giving up, she stood her ground and explained, “Because I recently had my fortune told. The master said my wife has a ‘luck-bringing’ aura. If she thrives, I thrive. If she suffers, I suffer—and it would even affect the fortune of my parents.”
She was talking pure nonsense with a straight face.
Her mother, who was deeply superstitious, immediately stood up and pushed the bodyguards aside. “What? It affects our fortunes? Are you serious? Who did you talk to?”
Shen Luoxi replied earnestly, “When I went to the temple to offer incense, a master stopped me. He said I was a person of destiny and gave me a reading for free.”
“Yes, yes, yes!” the mother agreed fervently. “Fortune tellers who ask for money are frauds, but the ones who talk about ‘destiny’ for free are the most accurate! Since the master said so, you must treat Xiao Yu well from now on. No more yelling, no more hitting. If you do it again, I’ll call the police myself.”
Shen Luoxi raised her hand in a solemn vow. “Don’t worry. Even if not for myself, I will treat her well for her sake and for yours. Rest assured.”
“Good! That’s more like it!”
Beaming with joy, the mother waved her hand to disperse the bodyguards. “Old Shen, look! This is our daughter. She was so well-behaved as a child, always top of her class. I told you we just haven’t been offering enough incense lately.”
The father nodded in a daze. “Uh, right. Yes. We definitely haven’t been offering enough incense.”
The mother grabbed Shen Luoxi’s arm and led her toward the dining room. “Come, let’s eat. I’ll have the cook make your favorite spicy chicken and roasted fish. You and Xiao Yu are staying over tonight; it’s been far too long since you’ve stayed with us.”
“I’d love to,” Shen Luoxi replied.
As the mother and daughter walked away, Pei Yu slowly lowered her head, clasping her hands together. Having survived the cutthroat world of business, the father noticed her unease.
“Xiao Yu,” he said gently.
“Yes, Father.” Pei Yu looked up, a soft expression back on her face.
“Your mother and I know about Luoxi’s past temper,” he said. “You’ve suffered. Now that she seems to be changing… if you want to stay with her, then stay. But if you don’t, we won’t stand in the way of a divorce.”
“I understand,” Pei Yu nodded.
“Come then. Let’s eat.” The father stood up, and Pei Yu followed.
