- Transmigrated as a Rare Female, the Dainty Fox Has Many Offspring Again
- Chapter 3 - The Innocent Little Fox
Hu Zhuo carried Hu Li across half the mountain, and by the time they reached the waterfall, Hu Li was so jostled that she felt dizzy.
“Sorry, Hu Li. I forgot you’re still weak and injured,” he said, his little face full of guilt, as if he had committed the most regrettable act of his life.
Damn, this kid is way too fragile! Hu Li quickly reassured him, “It’s fine, it’s fine! It’s just a little scratch.” Thankfully, the system had protected her when she fell off the cliff otherwise, she really would’ve been bedridden for ten days to half a month.
“I… I’m sorry.”
The little fox looked so pitiful that Hu Li, who had no idea how to comfort a fox, could only try to distract him.
“Hu Zhuo, is this the place you said had thick logs? But I don’t see any here!”
Hu Zhuo’s face lit up with excitement. “Hu Li, just wait, I’ll make one for you right now!”
With that, he stopped in front of a thick tree, his hands transforming into fox claws. In just a few swipes, the tree toppled over.
Proudly hoisting the tree onto his shoulder, Hu Zhuo wagged his fiery red ears happily. “Do you like it, Hu Li?”
“Yeah, I like it,” Hu Li replied, marveling at the beastman’s strength, he could carry a whole tree without even shifting into his beast form. So impressive! But then she frowned, wondering how they were going to hollow it out.
Noticing her furrowed brow, Hu Zhuo tilted his head in confusion.
“Hu Li, are you not happy with it?”
“Hu Zhuo, could you help me cut this log into a piece about my height? And then hollow out a hole inside?” She gestured the thickness she wanted for the bottom and sides.
Hu Zhuo caught on immediately, though this time it took a bit longer. Hollowing out a solid log by hand sounded painful, but to Hu Zhuo, it was no different from sharpening his claws.
By human standards, the barrel took shape in about five minutes. Ten minutes later, it was smooth and polished clearly, the craftsman had put in some effort.
Hu Zhuo effortlessly lifted the barrel with one hand and placed it beside Hu Li. “Hu Li, it’s done.”
Hu Li stared blankly. A barrel as tall as her and he was handling it like a toy!
“Uh… could you just put it by the waterfall? I’ll fill it with water.”
“Fill it with water? Easy! Just wait.” Hu Zhuo grabbed the barrel, leaped straight into the waterfall, and emerged half a minute later with it full to the brim.
Hu Li: “…” Holy beans!
Shifting into his beast form, Hu Zhuo carried Hu Li back to the Red Fox Tribe, the barrel clamped gently in his jaws.
As soon as they reached the cave, they spotted the priest approaching from a distance.
“Hu Li, how could you go out like this?! And you, Hu Zhuo, you’re not as strong as the other males in the tribe! You can’t protect a female alone. How irresponsible!”
Still reeling from the thrill of darting through the forest, Hu Li didn’t have the energy to explain. “Priest, did you need something?”
The priest finally remembered his actual purpose. “The chief sent me to check on you. Since you can walk now, you should be fine, but a basic examination is still necessary especially since you’re carrying a cub.”
Hu Li immediately touched her belly. She had almost forgotten about the little one inside, who knew what it even was?
The three of them entered the cave together, only to find Hurong standing inside with her hands on her hips, her face twisted in disgust. The place was a complete mess.
Fox Li immediately flared up with anger. That was the result of her entire afternoon’s effort, destroyed just like that.
“Fox Rong, what are you doing? How dare you wreck my home?”
Fox Rong curled her lips into a cold smirk and spread her hands. “I was just helping you check for bugs. After all, you’re injured. Once a beastman is wounded, it’ll attract bugs over time and eventually die. I was doing you a favor. Instead of thanking me, you’re questioning me? Fox Li, you’re so cold-blooded toward your own kin, no different from those stray, heartless beastmen out there.”
“You’re the cold-blooded one! Fox Li is the best!” Fox Zhuo couldn’t stand others bullying Fox Li. It was always this wretched female who picked on her.
“Oh, it’s Fox Zhuo! A male no one wants. I was kind enough to take you in as a mate, but not only did you refuse, you’re also hanging around the tribe’s ugliest female. Then again, a weak male like you couldn’t land a pretty female anyway. Just wait till the whole tribe laughs at you!”
“Who I bond with is none of your business. If you’ve got time, mind your own misbehaving pups! Stop meddling in other people’s affairs.”
“Who are you calling misbehaving pups, huh?”
Fox Rong adored her pups more than anything. Normally, if anyone so much as hinted that one of her pups had flaws, her fiery temper would reduce them to tears. Now, hearing another insult directed at her offspring, her anger flared instantly. She rolled up her sleeves, ready to fight, but thankfully, the priest stepped in to mediate before things escalated.
Fox Li also pulled Fox Zhuo back, urging him not to stoop to unreasonable arguments. Striking a female was a serious crime, one that could cost him his life.
Fox Zhuo snorted coldly. “Fox Li, I’ll listen to you.”
Once the priest confirmed the two wouldn’t clash again, he focused on examining Fox Li. Seeing that her scrapes had scabbed over, he prepared fresh herbal medicine before leaving.
Meanwhile, Fox Rong looked thoroughly dejected.
“Fox Li, are you just going to let Fox Rong bully you like this?”
This little fox always called weak by others wasn’t worried about himself but about her instead.
“I’m injured, and I’ve got pups in my belly. She has so many mates if we clash, I won’t have the upper hand. Let her strut around for a few more days. Once the pups are born, we’ll settle old and new scores together.”
Fox Li had expected Fox Zhuo to say something about pledging his loyalty like how he’d protect her no matter what and never let her get hurt. She was even prepared to endure such mushy words. But to her surprise, he stayed silent.
Turning to look at him in confusion, she saw Fox Zhuo fidgeting with his head lowered, as if wrestling with some decision. No doubt the pure-hearted little fox was blushing again.
“Fox Zhuo, is something on your mind?” she finally asked, breaking the silence.
“I… Fox Li, about what I said yesterday please think it over. I don’t just want to mate with you. I want to stay by your side forever and protect you. Like just now, if I were your mate, I’d have the right to drive Fox Rong away. But I’m not yours, so I don’t have that right.” As he spoke, his eyes reddened again.
Oh great, now he’s a crybaby too.
“Alright, don’t be upset. I’ll think about it. But for now, stop thinking about mating. Forget about it immediately.”
“Okay, but you have to consider it. I’ll go find you some food.” With that, Fox Zhuo fled as if escaping.
Sighing, Fox Li felt helpless. She was already carrying pups, how could she think about taking on a mate now? Still, Fox Zhuo was pretty handsome.
[Ding! Host has triggered the childbirth topic.]
The familiar system chime rang out.
[“From what I see, host, you should just take him in! Your mission isn’t just about guiding the Daughter of Fortune and the Son of Destiny, you know! Having children is also part of the task to return home.”]
“What?”
I haven’t even given birth to the one in my belly yet, and you’re already picking out the next one for me? Breed, breed, breed, breed your damn *ss!
[“Detecting heightened emotional levels in the host. Activating mood stabilization function now.”]
The next moment, Hu Li felt a small electric shock in her fingers, and then… the voltage kept increasing.
Hu Li straightened her posture, slowly exhaling a puff of smoke from her mouth. So, this was their idea of “stabilizing” moods brute-force stabilization!
System 250, you’re unethical.
