- Transmigrated as a Rare Female, the Dainty Fox Has Many Offspring Again
- Chapter 2 - Willing to Die for You
“Fox Zhuo, I don’t want to find a beast-husband right now. Could you step back for a moment?”
Fox Zhuo didn’t quite catch her words and picked her up, about to place her on the bed. Fox Li struggled and pushed him away.
“I said I don’t want a beast-husband right now.”
“But this morning, you asked me if I wanted to mate.” Fox Zhuo glanced at her belly. “I’m sorry, Fox Li. I forgot you’re still carrying cubs. But the priest said it’s fine to mate even when pregnant, so I’m sorry. I made you angry.” Fox Zhuo lowered his head in guilt.
“It’s fine. You should go back for now.”
“Oh, right! Since you’re pregnant, you’ll need more food. I’ll go get my share from home and bring it to you.” Without waiting for her reply, he immediately ran home to fetch the food.
Fox Li looked at the meat in the corner, it had been delivered by the tribe leader’s men that afternoon while she was tidying up the cave. Females without beast-husbands or male relatives were provided for by the tribe and didn’t need to hunt.
Before long, Fox Zhuo returned. He noticed the meat in the corner and, assuming Fox Li hadn’t eaten yet, handed his portion to her.
“Fox Li, eat quickly! Otherwise, the cubs in your belly won’t grow healthy.”
The meat was still bloody, clearly freshly hunted that afternoon. Fox Li’s stomach churned violently, and without caring about the presence of others, she leaned over the stone bed and vomited until she nearly emptied her stomach.
Fox Zhuo wanted to fetch water for her, but there wasn’t a drop in the cave. With nightfall bringing danger outside, he could only pat her back gently.
“Fox Li, didn’t you get lotus leaves from the tribe leader to store water? It’s a shame my home doesn’t have any either. The water dries up so fast in this heat. Should I go ask the tribe leader for some now?” Before she could respond, Fox Zhuo had already dashed off.
When he returned, he saw Fox Li crouched by the fire, cooking the meat. Alarmed, he dropped the water in his hands and immediately pulled her far away from the flames.
“Fox Li, have you lost your mind? Fire is dangerous! Are you hurt?” He frantically checked her for injuries, making Fox Li blush in embarrassment.
“Fox Zhuo, I don’t want to eat raw meat. I want it cooked, it’s less likely to make me sick.”
Fox Zhuo gasped. “Fox Li, many beastmen have died trying to cook meat for their females, but I’m willing to die for you.” With that, he strode toward the fire and picked up the fallen meat.
Er… Could she just say those beastmen had been doing it wrong? Fox Li tried to approach, but Fox Zhuo stopped her.
“Fox Li, stay back! I’m willing to die for you, even if I’m not your beast-husband yet.”
Fox Li sighed and sat down, taking the meat from his hands. She patiently explained, “Fox Zhuo, watch carefully. You skewer the meat over the fire, you don’t have to hold it the whole time. That way, the fire won’t burn you, and you won’t die.”
“Fox Zhuo, you’re amazing!”
Fox Li felt a small sense of pride at his admiration.
“See how it’s done?”
“Wife, I saw everything clearly, Fox Zhuo and Fox Li are about to be burned to death by the fire.”
Fox Rong sneered with schadenfreude. Years ago, she had wanted Fox Zhuo as her beast-husband. Though he looked thin, he was actually stronger than any of her current husbands. Her so-called robust beastmen barely brought back enough meat each day to fill her teeth, let alone feed the cubs. If he had become her husband, hunting would never have been a problem again.
But Foxburn was stubbornly infatuated with Fox carp. She had thought that by pushing Fox carp off the cliff to her death, Fox burn would finally be hers. Who knew Fox carp would be so tenacious and survive?
If she couldn’t have him, no one could.
“Just a little longer, until they’re burned to death.”
Under Fox carp’s careful guidance, Fox burn had learned how to roast meat without burning himself. When he finally mastered the skill, tears of joy streamed down his face.
“Fox carp, you’re so good to me. I remember when you and your father first arrived, you were the only one who played with me. The others bullied me, saying I was too weak and refused to play with the weak.” Suddenly, Fox burn realized something. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up your father.”
Fox carp recalled that the original owner of this body despised any mention of her father. The last time Fox bloom had brought it up, the two had ended up in a fight.
The meat sizzled as it roasted, and Fox carp reminded him it was ready. Fox burn’s attention shifted to the food, and his sorrow gradually faded.
As the two happily ate their roasted meat, Fox carp mused about how much better it would be with seasoning. Meanwhile, Fox bloom had already rallied the tribe to rush to their rescue.
Her burly figure led the way, her belly wobbling with each step. “Chief, you’re not in the best health. Why don’t I take the males ahead to save them?”
The chief quickly agreed. “Yes, go, go! We mustn’t let anything happen to the females!”
“Foxcarp, this piece is fresh, you have it.”
“Alright.”
The cave was filled with laughter until a loud roar shattered the peace.
“Fox carp, we’re here to save you!”
Fox carp was puzzled. “Fox bloom’s voice? Who is she here to save?”
The next second, the animal hide curtain was torn apart. Fox bloom rushed in first, grinning, only to freeze in shock upon seeing the two perfectly unharmed.
Fox carp’s brow furrowed at the sight of the ruined hide, and even the meat in her hand lost its appeal.
“Fox bloom, what’s wrong with you? You owe me two hides for this.”
“You should be dead!”
“Ugh, drop dead yourself! We’re going to live long and happy lives.”
When the chief arrived and saw Fox carp unharmed, she sighed in relief. “Thank goodness you’re alright. And you, Fox bloom dragging everyone out in the middle of the night without even checking the situation.”
The chief was genuinely annoyed now. As the leader of the tribe, she was experienced and older than most. Being hauled out of bed in the dead of night was nearly the death of her. First, Fox bloom had claimed Fox carp couldn’t bear children, only for Fox carp to turn up pregnant. Now, she’d claimed they were burning themselves alive, yet here they were, perfectly fine. Always causing unnecessary panic.
“Alright, everyone, disperse. Fox bloom, remember, you owe Fox carp two hides.”
Fox bloom refused. “Why should I? Her hides are low-quality. Mine are top-grade! I’m not giving her two!”
“Then get out of the Red Fox Tribe.”
“Chief, you!” Fox bloom burst into tears. The chief had never scolded her like this in front of others. After all, she was the strongest female in the tribe, having birthed over twenty fox cubs!
Fox bloom stormed off in a rage, her mates trailing behind her.
“Go on, everyone, leave.” As the chief shooed the crowd away, she suddenly noticed the cooked meat in their hands. Thinking she must be seeing things, she rubbed her eyes but no, it was definitely roasted.
“You have you lost your minds? Beastfolk are supposed to fear fire!”
Foxcarp shrugged. “Chief, want some roasted meat? I’ll cook some for you!”
Before the clan leader could respond, he was seen running over excitedly, “You can control fire are you a priestess?”
“I… don’t think so?” She had just propped a stick over the fire could they really not even do that? Fox Li couldn’t fathom how backward this place was.
After managing to send the clan leader away, Fox Li had almost finished eating. Fox Zhuo helped clean up and then parted the fire, leaving only a tiny ember behind.
“Why don’t you extinguish the fire completely?”
“Shh, Fox Li, have you forgotten? It’s forbidden to say that in the tribe. The sacred fire must never go out.”
Seeing how serious he looked, Fox Li waved her hand dismissively. “I hit my head when I fell into the forbidden land and forgot some things. But I’ll remember now. You should go rest!”
“Alright. I’ll bring you water again tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Fox Li lay on the bed, the faint glow of the fire flickering across her face.
“System, don’t I get any cheat abilities?”
[Unknown. You’ll have to discover that yourself.]
Great. Asking was as good as not asking.
Fox Li was about to close her eyes and sleep. She couldn’t afford to shortchange herself, especially since she was carrying a child.
Half-asleep, she felt as though she had fallen somewhere, a vast, white expanse where she couldn’t see clearly. She walked and walked, but there seemed to be no end in sight.
[Congratulations, Host, for awakening the Spirit Spring Space.]
“Spirit Spring Space?”
[Yes. The Spirit Spring Space will always be with you. You may enter whenever you need it. However, the system will not accompany you during upgrade periods.]
“Mm, at least the spirit spring is reliable. But, where is it?”
[Host, look ahead.]
Before her eyes appeared a pool of clear water, misted with an ethereal aura.
“Wow~ Divine mist. I’ll take more of that.” Fox Li foolishly fanned the mist toward her face.
[Host, please read the introduction to the Spirit Spring Space.]
Spirit Spring Space functions:
1.Can store anything except beastmen.
2.Any plant, if watered with even a drop of spirit spring water, will revive from death.
Fox Li thought this Spirit Spring Space was pretty good. In a beast world where food was scarce, she could grow vegetables. If disaster struck and food became scarce, she could at least ensure her survival.
Fox Li fell asleep with a smile on her face.
When she woke again, Fox Zhuo had already been waiting outside for a long time.
Stepping out of the cave, Fox Li was startled to see Fox Zhuo standing there like a statue.
“Why have you been standing here all this time?”
“I promised to bring you water the next day.”
Fox Li sighed as she looked at the water held in a lotus leaf. How much could such a small leaf hold? It wasn’t even enough for her to wash up, let alone survive the scorching heat where water evaporated quickly.
“Fox Zhuo, can you help me find some wood? Thicker logs would be better.”
Fox Zhuo was puzzled. “Those are only used for burning. Fox Li, what do you need them for?”
“To hold water.”
Hold water? This piqued Fox Zhuo’s interest greatly. He had clearly noticed that Fox Li had changed, she had become much smarter. Last night, he had wondered: since Fox Li could control fire, had she awakened the abilities of a priestess?
Fox Zhuo led Fox Li out of the tribe. She was about to ask where they were going when, in the next moment, he transformed into his true form, a fiery red fox standing two to three meters tall.
Fox Li had a slight fear of large creatures, and seeing it again still unsettled her.
“Fox Li, climb up quickly.” As he spoke, Fox Zhuo had already crouched low.
Carefully, Fox Li straddled his neck, gripping the fur around her tightly to avoid falling off.
Fox Burn took two or three strides forward, and in the blink of an eye, they were already far from their tribe.
Fox Carp was so frightened that she simply clung tightly to the fur on the back of his neck, pressing herself flat against him. The soft, fluffy fur eased much of her fear and tension.
In a corner she couldn’t see, the fiery red fox’s ears twitched slightly, his eyes narrowing into happy slits. His tail wagged like a propeller, Fox Carp still liked him after all.
