Chapter 2: Dream Prophecy
The dream where she became a little peasant girl in ancient times had also featured a space, and she hadn’t expected it to be real.
A space, a spring… that had to be a spirit spring, right?
Yang Xue walked excitedly to the edge of the water. She couldn’t wait to scoop up a handful and take a large gulp. As the water entered her system, her entire body felt refreshed, and her previously foggy head cleared instantly.
“Hahaha! It seems the heavens haven’t been unkind to me.”
With this space, she figured her life in the Great An Dynasty wouldn’t be too miserable.
After taking a quick tour of the area, Yang Xue prepared to leave. After all, there was still a person in her room; if someone found her missing, she wouldn’t be able to keep her secret.
To her surprise, she realized only her soul had entered the space; her physical body remained outside. She didn’t have to worry about anyone noticing her vanishing.
Once her consciousness withdrew from the space, she drifted into a deep sleep. But then, a dream about Niaor Village began.
In the dream, Niaor Village was covered in water—a massive flood. The water submerged the fields, drowned the crops, and soaked half the houses. Some of the more dilapidated shacks were simply swept away by the current.
The dream was so vivid and terrifying that fine beads of sweat broke out on Yang Xue’s forehead.
Just as she was struggling within the dream, a sharp voice pierced her ears.
“Yang Xue! You ‘money-losing commodity,’ are you dead in there? The whole family has gone to work and you dare hide at home and sleep? Get your ass out here and work right now!”
Accompanying the sharp voice was a heavy pounding on the door.
…
Facing the Enemy
As the dream faded with the noise, Yang Xue frowned deeply. It was so noisy—everything here was just so loud.
She snapped her eyes open but didn’t rush out of bed. Instead, she entered her space first. She was hungry and needed food; she had to have the strength to fight the “evil forces” outside.
Yang Xue discovered that since her soul had drunk the spirit spring water earlier, it had a positive effect on her physical body. She figured that if she ate in the space, her physical body would feel full too.
After eating some fruit and drinking more spring water, she emerged from the space feeling her body surge with strength.
Good. Time to head out and battle.
Before leaving the room, Yang Xue walked over to the corner with a cold sneer. Zhao Zhadi was still making “mmmph mmmph” noises, desperately trying to get the person outside to save her.
Seeing Yang Xue approach, Zhao Zhadi wasn’t afraid. Instead, she glared at her with a warning look. Her eyes seemed to say: My backup is right outside. If you’re smart, you’ll let me go right now.
To her shock, Yang Xue ignored the warning and simply raised her hand, knocking her unconscious with a single blow.
After the woman went limp, Yang Xue dragged a table and stool over to block Zhao Zhadi from view. Only then did she go to open the door.
The person outside was still pounding away, cursing up a storm. When Yang Xue suddenly opened the door, the woman lost her balance and nearly fell flat on her face.
As soon as she saw Yang Xue, the mean-looking old woman at the door pointed a finger and screamed, “You dead girl! You ‘money-losing commodity’! You finally decided to come out?”
The old woman reached out to grab Yang Xue’s ear, but Yang Xue dodged it easily.
“You brat, you dare dodge me?”
Yang Xue stared coldly at the bitter old woman before her. This was Wang Dani, the original owner’s grandmother, who was biased beyond belief.
From the original owner’s memories, Yang Xue knew her current state was all thanks to Wang Dani. Because the girl had been too hungry and weak to move a bundle of firewood, Wang Dani had struck her over the head with a club.
When she fell, Wang Dani wasn’t satisfied. She had dragged the girl to the river and held her head underwater, torturing her until she was half-dead before dumping her on the bank. It was only because her mother went looking for her that she was brought home. The original owner hadn’t survived the ordeal, and that was how Yang Xue had ended up here.
Damn it! How can a grandmother be this vicious?
…
Fighting Back
Yang Xue scanned the yard. It was dilapidated and empty of other people.
Good. If no one’s here, I don’t have to pretend.
“What are you staring at? Get moving and get to work! I get angry just looking at you. You’re just like your mother, a curse on our family! What sin did the Yang family commit to give birth to such a useless son who married—”
As Wang Dani ranted, she noticed Yang Xue wasn’t moving. She stepped forward to strike her again.
But this time, Yang Xue grabbed the old woman by her hair and yanked her head back. “Your mouth is so foul. Want me to wash it for you?”
Wang Dani was stunned for a moment before letting out a piercing scream.
Yang Xue didn’t give her another chance. She dragged the old woman toward the backyard. Once there, she grabbed a handful of mud and weeds and stuffed them directly into Wang Dani’s mouth.
Yang Xue had grown up with her own grandmother in her past life. Whenever people bullied them, she had often wanted to do this but always held back. Now, she didn’t want to hold back anymore. Life was short—who knew when she might kick the bucket again? No more enduring.
“Go on, keep cursing. Does it taste good? If water won’t clean your mouth, we’ll use sand.”
“Aaagh! Aaagh!”
“Scream again,” Yang Xue said, her eyes drifting toward the nearby chicken coop. “Scream again and I’ll wash your mouth out with chicken droppings.”
Wang Dani looked at Yang Xue in terror, as if she were looking at a ghost.
“Grandma, don’t go screaming in front of me again. Otherwise… hehe, want to see what other tricks I have?”
Wang Dani’s body couldn’t stop shaking.
Yang Xue shoved her away. “Scram!”
The old woman didn’t dare stay a second longer. She scrambled away in a panic.
…
The Omen
Yang Xue wasn’t worried about Wang Dani bringing people back. She looked up at the sky. It was a beautiful day, and birds were circling above.
But Yang Xue knew that so many birds flying aimlessly was not a good sign. She thought of the dream—the flood.
She had dreamed she would become an ancient farm girl, and she had. She had dreamed of a space, and there was one. Now she had dreamed of a flood hitting Nair Village. It was likely true.
As she thought, her brow furrowed deeper. A thought flashed through her mind.
Could I have the power of prophetic dreams? Yang Xue felt a surge of excitement. This was basically a superpower! If so, she needed to start preparing for the coming disaster.
