Training the Villain to Become a Big Sister Obsessed - Chapter 3
In the Hall of Contemplation at Yanggu (Sunny Valley).
Lan Shan Jun was kneeling on the meditation cushion, her clothes still damp and clinging to her body, making her look as if she had just been pulled from the water.
Although she had narrowly escaped the Snake Beauty and was rescued by Senior Sister Xie, she ran into Dong Jun along the way. Dong Jun immediately noticed the abnormality in Lan Shan Jun’s Golden Core. The usually detached Second Valley Master of Yanggu, who seemed indifferent to everything, wore an expression so gloomy it looked like water could drip from it. With a wave of her hand, she directly transmitted Lan Shan Jun back to the Hall of Contemplation for reflection.
Kneeling wasn’t an issue in itself, but the indescribable fever in her body made it hard for Lan Shan Jun to stay put. She breathed shallowly, sweat continuously rolling down her forehead.
“Book Spirit!” Lan Shan Jun called out for the Book Spirit, who had been missing for a long time.
Still, there was no response.
The heavy sweating left Lan Shan Jun dry-mouthed, and her voice had grown hoarse. She used her hands to brace the edge of the meditation cushion to steady herself, her voice weak: “Master, I was wrong.”
Lan Shan Jun certainly knew her body was unwell, but only Dong Jun could hear her right now. This Hall of Contemplation was actually a small world unto itself; there was nothing inside except this cushion for kneeling in reflection. Dong Jun throwing her in was simply because she was angry that Lan Shan Jun had disregarded her own life.
The moment Lan Shan Jun’s trailing vowel faded, the space behind her began to distort and change, slowly manifesting a phantom image of a person.
“Are you truly repentant?” Dong Jun’s tone was hard and cold.
Lan Shan Jun weakly nodded. Her peripheral vision caught sight of a small corner of embroidery featuring a golden sun motif. She could hold on no longer; she turned and fainted directly at the woman’s feet, her fingers pathetically clutching Dong Jun’s hem.
Dong Jun reached out, her fingertip’s spiritual energy following the woman’s meridians to the location of the Golden Core. Just as she was about to use her power to repair the severely fractured Golden Core, a tyrannical and powerful spiritual energy surged out, rushing straight toward her brow.
Dong Jun slightly tilted her head, pinching the tail of the azure spiritual energy, her expression unreadable.
“Azure Dragon?”
Lan Shan Jun woke up in her own room. The room was filled with the unique calming incense of Yanggu, which Lan Shan Jun loved and couldn’t help inhaling deeply.
The slight movement was heard by another person—
“Awake?”
Lan Shan Jun turned her head and saw someone sitting at a table beyond the screen. The familiar voice, the familiar person.
Lan Shan Jun got out of bed, threw on an outer robe, and went around the screen to sit beside Xie Qing Shuang.
Xie Qing Shuang was reading a book. Seeing her approach, she pushed a porcelain bowl sitting nearby over without looking up from the text.
Lan Shan Jun glanced at it. “What is this?”
Xie Qing Shuang put down her book, looked Lan Shan Jun directly in the eyes, and uttered one word: “Medicine.”
Only the Valley Master, Xie You, at Yanggu was skilled in medicine.
Lan Shan Jun swallowed it down in two gulps, then asked, “Was I poisoned before?”
All the discomfort had appeared after that bite from the Snake Beauty. No wonder they said the more beautiful something is, the more dangerous it is—that Snake Beauty was a venomous snake.
Lan Shan Jun remembered the heart-piercing pain when she was bitten and raised her hand to touch the spot. There was a small, raised arc; the wound seemed swollen.
“No. The Valley Master and Dong Jun said it was like being in heat.”
Lan Shan Jun froze. She forced a stiff smile and chuckled twice, looking at Xie Qing Shuang for a long moment before saying, “I didn’t expect Senior Sister Xie to joke around.” She was human, not a demon; how could she go into heat?
Xie Qing Shuang looked at her. “I am not joking.”
Lan Shan Jun: “……”
“No way,” Lan Shan Jun touched her face. “Am I secretly some kind of demonic beast?”
“Rest assured, you do not have the bloodline of a demonic beast,” Xie Qing Shuang replied.
Lan Shan Jun instinctively felt that the matter of going into heat was inseparable from that Snake Beauty.
She would never forget that face in this lifetime… Wait—
Her memory was blank. Lan Shan Jun stood up abruptly, her eyes momentarily blank. She couldn’t remember what the Snake Beauty looked like!
Xie Qing Shuang’s eyebrows moved slightly. “What’s wrong?”
“…Nothing,” Lan Shan Jun grit her teeth. She adored beautiful people; once she saw someone, she never forgot them. Now, not even a vague impression remained in her mind. The Snake Beauty must have done something to her. Was she afraid Lan Shan Jun would seek revenge?
Lan Shan Jun clenched her fists until they creaked. She would definitely get revenge!
Xie Qing Shuang lowered her gaze, seeing her angrily gripping the edge of the table, and understood inwardly. “What did you encounter in the Secret Realm?”
Hearing the question, Lan Shan Jun was somewhat surprised. After all, Xie Qing Shuang was usually an obsession-level cultivator, either practicing the sword or training outside the valley. It was rare to see her relaxing. Yet today, she had been sitting here with Lan Shan Jun for quite a while and even initiated the conversation about her.
Xie Qing Shuang was one of the original novel’s Heroines. Lan Shan Jun had wanted to get closer to her a long time ago, but unfortunately, this Heroine was naturally cold-hearted. Lan Shan Jun’s multiple attempts had failed, so even after a century together in Yanggu, their relationship remained lukewarm. Now that the Heroine was proactively asking, Lan Shan Jun felt an opportunity had arrived.
Setting aside her original goal of killing the villain, Lan Shan Jun embellished the story and recounted about seventy to eighty percent of what happened.
“Snake demons are passionate; your going into heat was likely caused by that bite,” Xie Qing Shuang stated. “I will discuss this matter with the Valley Master so we can prescribe the right cure.”
Lan Shan Jun smiled pleasantly, supported her hands on her hips, and bowed her salute. “Then I thank you very much, Senior Sister.”
“Mhm,” Xie Qing Shuang responded flatly, then picked up the book in her hand and resumed reading.
Lan Shan Jun: “?”
After sitting quietly for a while, seeing that the Heroine showed no sign of leaving, Lan Shan Jun took the initiative to ask, “In the Secret Realm, I heard the Eastern Emperor Bell had appeared. Is that true?”
Xie Qing Shuang’s gaze was faint, now reflecting Lan Shan Jun’s image. “The rumor is true; the Eastern Emperor Bell is currently owned by the Vermillion Bird Hall.”
Lan Shan Jun responded playfully. “The Eastern Emperor Bell is renowned for suppressing evil spirits, isn’t it? Is there no great demon locked inside it?”
Xie Qing Shuang’s lips curved slightly, a fleeting, inexplicable smile crossing them. “Who knows.”
Lan Shan Jun paused for a moment, then blinked. She looked at the Heroine before her—still the same cold-hearted, cold-eyed appearance. Did she misread the situation?
Suddenly, the jade plaque at her waist flickered. Lan Shan Jun placed her finger on it and infused it with spiritual power.
“Lan Shan, come to Cloud-Treading Residence.”
Cloud-Treading Residence was situated at the highest point of Yanggu, towering above the layer of clouds; it was also Dong Jun’s residence. Sometimes, Lan Shan Jun would stay there for a short while to facilitate Dong Jun’s inspection of her studies.
Hearing her Master’s command, Lan Shan Jun was startled. Her first reaction was that her Master had waited for her to wake up before settling scores. Before she could find an excuse to refuse, the Book Spirit’s urgent voice sounded in her mind: “Cang Wu has arrived.”
Lan Shan Jun: “!” Cang Wu! The villain!
“Coincidentally, I also have something to ask Dong Jun about. Let’s go together.” Xie Qing Shuang rose in one neat movement. Seeing Lan Shan Jun still frozen in place, she called out, “Lan Shan?”
“Ah?” Lan Shan Jun snapped back to attention. Hearing that the Senior Sister was coming with her, she immediately felt much more secure.
Along the way, Lan Shan Jun’s energy was chaotic, drawing stares from the people around her several times.
“Feeling unwell?” Xie Qing Shuang rested one hand behind her back. “If you are feeling severely uncomfortable, it is fine for me to mention it to the Valley Master. You could visit the Valley Master first.”
Lan Shan Jun took a deep breath. “I’m fine.” This was Yanggu, and more importantly, the villain had not yet become demonic. She would be fine.
After mentally reassuring herself, Lan Shan Jun straightened her back, her gaze determined.
The two arrived below Cloud-Treading Residence. Directly in front was a sheer cliff severed by sword energy. It was said that during a confrontation between Dong Jun and the Master of the Azure Dragon Hall years ago, Dong Jun, in a fit of rage, cleaved the East Sea with one sword strike, severing this cliff and completely cutting off her friendship with the Master of the Azure Dragon Hall. Since then, Yanggu had ceased to concern itself with worldly affairs.
Cloud-Treading Residence soared straight into the clouds, making the ascent too treacherous. Except for the Valley Master and Dong Jun, who could fly up on their swords, other disciples of Yanggu had to take the immortal cranes from below the mountain.
Lan Shan Jun found the crane she usually sat on, tucked her legs in, and sat down steadily.
She looked at the Heroine beside her: with a light touch of her toes, she leaped up. Her posture was light and graceful. Standing on the immortal crane, her body was like a green bamboo, holding a sword in her left hand, her right hand held slightly forward. Her robes fluttered in the wind as she stood still—a picture of immortal elegance.
“As expected of the Heroine,” Lan Shan Jun sighed internally.
The Book Spirit murmured, “You don’t look bad when you stand up, either.”
Lan Shan Jun tightly gripped the feathers on the crane’s neck. “Why stand when I can sit? I won’t.”
Two crane cries echoed. The crane flapped its wings, stirring up fallen flowers and dead leaves on the ground.
The immortal crane landed in front of Cloud-Treading Residence. The courtyard, under the late autumn sun, was still lush with flowers and foliage. Dong Jun often said that one should not go against Heaven and that all things should follow their natural course, yet her own Cloud-Treading Residence was kept in perpetual spring by spiritual energy, never showing fading flowers or fallen leaves. Lan Shan Jun had once asked Dong Jun why, but Dong Jun would only smile enigmatically and never answer.
Passing through the long corridor, Lan Shan Jun saw the Three-Heart Pure Lotuses in full bloom under the eaves. She felt an itch to pluck one. This thing was incredibly fragrant; it could perfume a room for a year or two and had the effect of calming the mind and nourishing the spirit.
Before her hand touched a lotus petal, a streak of spiritual energy struck the back of her hand, making Lan Shan Jun wince in pain.
“Unbecoming.”
Hearing Dong Jun’s voice, Lan Shan Jun guiltily hid her hand behind her back.
Lan Shan Jun looked up and saw Dong Jun approaching from the opposite corridor, holding a scroll, seemingly just out of the study.
Lan Shan Jun and Xie Qing Shuang simultaneously raised their hands, bowed, and saluted.
“Master.”
“Dong Jun.”
Before Lan Shan Jun could straighten up, she heard Dong Jun say: “Lan Shan, come meet your Junior Sister.”
A jolt went through Lan Shan Jun’s heart; her heartbeat thundered. After a few seconds of stunned silence, Lan Shan Jun finally took a deep breath, straightened up, and her gaze quickly swept past Dong Jun to the little child she was holding.
The child was wearing a pale azure ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress), with delicate features that were captivating, like sparkling spring water.
Lan Shan Jun: “?” A child?
Looking at the little girl who only reached Dong Jun’s waist, Lan Shan Jun was utterly confused. The villain was just a child!?
“Didn’t you read the original book? I thought you knew,” the Book Spirit also expressed surprise at her reaction.
Lan Shan Jun was on the verge of a breakdown. She cursed the original author again in her mind: “The original book never said the villain was still a child now!”
Dong Jun bent down, pointed a finger at Lan Shan Jun, and said to the little girl beside her, “That is your Senior Sister.”
The little girl looked at Lan Shan Jun, slowly walked up to her, cautiously tugged at a corner of Lan Shan Jun’s clothing, and looked up at her with a shy smile. “Senior Sister.”
The soft, milky voice unique to a child struck Lan Shan Jun’s heart, melting it upon hearing the greeting. Don’t be like this…
Lan Shan Jun felt like she was splitting in two. Two voices sounded in her mind: one said she was the villain who would kill her later; the other said she was just a child, so beautiful and lovely, what wrong could she have done? She knew nothing!
“Senior Sister.”
Oh dear! Listen to that. Lan Shan Jun’s eyes were welling up. How could this be the murderous great villain from the book? She was clearly a good child, her sweet and lovely Junior Sister.
The scales of judgment tipped completely.
“At the beginning of life, human nature is inherently good! If a child is taught from a young age, they won’t grow up crooked.”
The Book Spirit heard her inner voice and let out a light scoff. Didn’t someone just say a few days ago: If I don’t kill her now, won’t she come to kill me later?
And now…
The person in question had squatted down to hold the villain’s little hand, even pitching her voice higher. “Hello there, my name is Lan Shan Jun.”
