Time Travel Begins the Moment I Divorce My Wife - Chapter 2
March 18, 20xx – Auspicious for weddings, marriage registration, business openings, and moving; Inauspicious for breaking ground, logging, and litigation.
Ji Xunchi crouched halfway, her freshly washed hands still carrying the distinct scent of soil as she clutched the calendar page, frozen in place.
Why hadn’t she torn the calendar before tending to the plants?
Ji Xunchi fell into deep thought.
A few seconds later, she abruptly stood up.
“Ji Xunchi! How could you do this? Don’t you know feudal superstitions are unacceptable?!”
A stack of freshly torn calendar pages lay in the trash bin. Ji Xunchi glanced at them while muttering to herself as she stood up, then casually tossed the crumpled page in her hand into the bin as well.
Then, with an air of nonchalance, she returned to the living room.
When Hua Jiangyu pushed open the door with her luggage, she instinctively glanced toward the living room sofa.
The person was curled up on the couch watching TV, seemingly amused by the show’s plot, laughing so hard she nearly toppled over.
Ji Xunchi seemed to be in a good mood.
Hua Jiangyu quietly let out a sigh of relief.
After changing her shoes and noticing Ji Xunchi still hadn’t spotted her, Hua Jiangyu cleared her throat. Her voice carried the crisp, clear quality of a mountain spring striking jade: “I’m back.”
Ji Xunchi turned her head in response.
Her breath involuntarily hitched for a second.
Why was it that despite being equally busy with work, Hua Jiangyu’s beauty remained utterly unaffected?
Her face was so fair it seemed to glow, her makeup-free complexion still radiant, her flawless skin leaving no room for criticism.
Ji Xunchi secretly envied her for two seconds.
Sensing Ji Xunchi’s gaze lingering on her face, Hua Jiangyu subtly held her breath and straightened her posture, presenting her best demeanor.
But she waited and waited, yet the expected kiss never came.
Her grip on the luggage handle tightened imperceptibly as Hua Jiangyu lowered her eyes.
“Have you had lunch yet?” she asked.
Ji Xunchi wiped the crumbs of potato chips from the corner of her mouth and replied, “Not yet.”
With that, she shifted slightly to make way for Hua Jiangyu to pass.
The brief exchange ended, and an abrupt silence settled between them once more.
Hua Jiangyu’s heart clenched uncontrollably. She couldn’t adapt to this atmosphere thick with unfamiliarity and distance.
But she didn’t know how to break it.
Watching Hua Jiangyu’s retreating figure as she walked toward the bedroom, Ji Xunchi suddenly called out to her.
“Do you have anything else to do later?”
Hua Jiangyu’s heart leaped with joy, thinking Ji Xunchi might be asking her out to eat.
“I don’t.”
Her voice carried a hint of eager delight.
Ji Xunchi nodded, her smile flawless. “Then I’ll tell you something once you’re done.”
Hua Jiangyu nodded, suppressing her excitement as she retreated into the bedroom.
Eager about the possibility of going out for a meal together later, Hua Jiangyu finished packing quickly. Before long, Ji Xunchi saw her emerge.
The items on the coffee table remained largely unchanged, except for the addition of a stack of A4 papers.
Seeing Hua Jiangyu take a seat across from her, Ji Xunchi coughed lightly, picked up the papers, and handed them over. “Take a look at this.”
Hua Jiangyu accepted them, puzzled.
D-I-V-O-R-C-E A-G-R-E-E-M-E-N-T!
Hua Jiangyu’s expression instantly darkened. “What does this mean?”
Ji Xunchi tilted her chin up. “Exactly what it says. I’ve already consulted a lawyer to draft it. See if there’s anything else you’d like to address.”
Hua Jiangyu’s face stiffened. “You want a divorce?”
Ji Xunchi nodded. “Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I can’t go on anymore.”
“Can’t go on anymore?”
“Right, I feel like there’s no love left, so I can’t go on.”
“No love left?”
Ji Xunchi repeated calmly, “Yes, no love left.”
Wasn’t it perfectly normal for long-distance relationships to grow cold?
Ji Xunchi looked at Hua Jiangyu, who seemed unable to accept this.
She had thought Hua Jiangyu would have sensed this outcome, but it appeared the other woman hadn’t expected it at all?
But no matter what, once she made a decision, Ji Xunchi wasn’t going to change her mind.
Her expression carried a quiet resolve.
Hua Jiangyu felt as if her heart had been slashed open, the pain unbearable.
She knew Ji Xunchi’s stubbornness all too well.
Just like the unwavering determination she had shown when they got married.
Ji Xunchi watched as Hua Jiangyu’s eyes instantly reddened at her words, the flush at the corners stark against her bloodless face.
A bad feeling crept into Ji Xunchi’s heart.
Sure enough.
She saw Hua Jiangyu’s gaze darken, her voice icy enough to freeze someone to death: “I don’t agree.”
Then, the sharp sound of tearing paper ripped through the air.
Hua Jiangyu stood up, her fingers deathly pale as they clenched the crumpled divorce papers.
Her voice was fierce: “Divorce? Don’t even think about it!”
Ji Xunchi tilted her head back, stunned, watching as Hua Jiangyu stormed toward the door in a rage.
Scattered on the floor were the torn shreds of the divorce agreement, some still swirling in the draft she left behind.
The situation had escalated too quickly.
Seeing Hua Jiangyu lose her temper so abruptly something Ji Xunchi had never witnessed before left her momentarily dazed.
But when she saw Hua Jiangyu about to slam the door and leave for good, her heart clenched, snapping her back to reality.
“Wait!”
She called out, trying to stop her.
Yet the moment she stood up, her vision suddenly darkened.
Dizziness washed over her, her body feeling unnaturally light then everything went black.
“What’s wrong with Mommy?”
“Waaah!”
“I didn’t push her, I didn’t push her, waaah!”
“Xiao Hua, hurry up and apologize to your sister.”
Ji Xunchi felt like she was surrounded by blaring speakers, the noise deafening.
Her head throbbed even harder.
Why was there crying?
Had Hua Jiangyu actually burst into tears because she refused to divorce?!
At the thought, Ji Xunchi jolted upright like a dying patient miraculously revived, her eyes snapping open like lightning.
Where? Where was Hua Jiangyu’s tearful breakdown?
Ji Xunchi’s gaze swept the scene before her with burning intensity.
“Waaah, hic.”
The chorus of childish sobs paused for a split second.
Staring at the group of unfamiliar kids, Ji Xunchi: “?”
The little girl called “Xiao Hua” by the young woman had flushed cheeks, her eyes glistening with unshed tears that clung stubbornly to the corners, making her look both pitiful and adorable.
She gaped at Ji Xunchi, who had just “come back to life,” and whispered, “Mommy, she’s alive again.”
“Oh my gosh, she’s alive again!”
“She must have superpowers! Just like Magic Little Blue!”
“Mommy, I want superpowers too!!”
Ji Xunchi: “?”
Where am I? And who am I?
Where is the sobbing Hua Jiangyu?
And who are these fair-skinned, chubby little kids?
Countless question marks swirled in her mind, but no one answered.
Suddenly, someone patted her on the back, followed by a gentle voice above her head: “Hello there, do you feel any pain anywhere?”
Ji Xunchi looked up in a daze, and a face both familiar and unfamiliar came into view.
“…Mom?”
The gentle woman paused slightly before softening her voice again. “Sweetie, I’m not your mom.”
Ji Xunchi nodded. She was about to get divorced, so this woman really wasn’t her mother anymore.
Zhong Yumin took her daughter’s hand and gently pulled her forward, then spoke in a slightly stern tone: “Xiao Hua, come and apologize to this sister.”
Hua Jiangyu clung to her mother’s leg, eyeing Ji Xunchi warily. At Zhong Yumin’s words, she pouted and said, “Sister, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have bumped into you without looking.”
Ji Xunchi: “?”
Who are you?
And wait hadn’t she already been promoted to the “auntie” generation?
But looking at the soft, super pretty, and adorable little girl in front of her, Ji Xunchi couldn’t help but break into a doting smile. She didn’t understand what was happening, but it couldn’t be anything too serious!
She reached out, intending to pat the child’s head.
In fact, she really did just that.
Then she stretched her arm, stretched it again, stretched. Couldn’t reach.
Staring at her own fair, chubby, lotus-like stubby arm, Ji Xunchi fell into silence.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the little girl’s slightly fearful gaze. Ji Xunchi swallowed back a thunderous “What the hell?” and instead stood on tiptoe, stretching her arm to pat the girl’s head. “It’s okay, sister’s fine.”
She didn’t even feel any pain anywhere.
Hua Jiangyu stiffened as her head was patted, and the delayed fear made her eyes well up with tears again.
“Mom, mom, let’s go,” Hua Jiangyu whispered, tugging at Zhong Yumin.
Zhong Yumin patted her little hand and asked Ji Xunchi gently, “Sweetie, where’s your mom?”
I don’t know where my mom is either.
Ji Xunchi thought silently.
Just then, a young woman’s voice called out from a distance, growing closer.
“Chi Chi! Chi Chi!”
The next moment, Ji Xunchi felt someone cupping her cheeks.
Looking up at this woman, who was also both familiar and unfamiliar, Ji Xunchi’s expression turned blank again.
“Mom?”
“What’s wrong? Have you forgotten your mom after just a little while?”
Ji Xunchi silently shook her head.
Seeing that Ji Xunchi was fine, the adults above them began talking.
Ji Xunchi stood rooted to the spot, her mind flooded with countless “What the hell?”s. Her eyes flickered as she poked the little girl still clinging to Zhong Yumin’s leg.
“Let me ask you something.”
Hua Jiangyu shrank back slightly. Though afraid, she lifted her tiny chin, putting on a brave front. “Y-You can ask.”
Ji Xunchi stared at her. “Tell me, what’s your name?”
Hua Jiangyu’s soft, sweet voice answered, “My name is Hua Jiangyu.”
“Hua as in flower, Jiang as in the Yangtze River, Yu as in lush and flourishing.”
Ji Xunchi: “…”
Her gaze was practically boring a hole through the child.
Hua Jiangyu, recalling how this pretty sister had just died and come back to life, felt a mix of fear and inexplicable excitement.
Could there really be superpowers?!
Ji Xunchi had no idea why this rosy-cheeked child was so excited, but she knew she was pretty worked up herself.
So worked up she felt like passing out.
Ji Xunchi took a deep breath, her voice slightly unsteady: “You’re quite the cultured one, huh.”
